It’s a modern Cinderella with a twist. This is one of the first mangas that I read when I was just new to the genre. The story is a bit cliche and very cheesy but this will probably be added in my guilty pleasure collection. Where do I start?
The story is just like Cinderella minus the evil step mother and step sisters. It’s a Cinderella with a magic tree and a clueless prince. I’ll give the story a 4 star. I love how the author hooked it and made me read it the whole night. The drama was well-written and wasn’t dragged too much. The overall lore of the fictional country and Mifune’s role in Shou’s past was just beautiful. It was a little rape-y and because of that, it waved the chances of 5 stars goodbye.
For the characters, I give it a 3. Kairi is just too naive and too innocent for his own good that even Shou is not treating him well, he’s still making sure that the prince is fine. I love how Shou’s uncle interferes though. As for Mifune, I want to know his story.
For the art, I give it a 3. Shou and his uncle are indeed illustrated like princes out of story books. Those ones that you imagine when reading a book with no pictures, just your imagination moving. Kairi on the other hand, was too girly. I guess he was drawn that way to embody kindness and innocence?
I can say that, this manga is the type of manga that I will be found reading in the middle of the night and trying hard not to squeal. Even though this manga is already complete, I will want to know Mifune’s story and I want a sequel!
