RikkaTag
Plot: Modern settings. Roy 24. Ed 18. Roy is a bum. Al likes to bring home kittens/cats a lot and Ed gets after him for it. One day Al sees Roy and ends up bringing him home. Roy grew up on the streets and is used to stealing to survive. So, Ed has to rehabilitate him. Sometimes... Life gives you a hand full of shit. One of those instances would be a young man that spent his mornings in the alley behind Ihop, his afternoons in the park near the local high school, and his nights behind the seafood buffet on Berry street. He frequented these specific locations at theses specific time slots for two reasons. One, the difficulty of getting food is less. Two, the abuse he receives is less often. Today was a good day. He'd only been kicked ten times and it was already two forty. He was long used to the garbage thrown at him. He didn't think it particularily mattered to the people who passed whether the trash made it in the can or on the bum. Sometimes he was lucky. Sometimes they threw away food yet to be finished. He'd not been lucky as far as food went today. He'd gotten remnants of scrambled eggs that morning. That was, so far, all he got. He pushed himself off the ground and stumbled toward the drinking fountain that stood near the entrance of the park. The man himself looked no better than his lifestyle. His hair hung low on his shoulders and he had more facial hair than any man his age would want. His clothes were old and worn. They had remnants of a life he had only dreamed of having. Subconscious_domain
((Lol, good family members let little kids walk home by themselves.)) Meow. Meooow. The boy did his best to keep the small tabby comfortable in his arms, but no matter what he murmured to it or how he held it to make it happier it still struggled in his little arms. It had only come to him thanks to the fact that he had few crumbs left over from his lunch in his hands. However, since it wasn't used to humans or being handled, it had fought against him ever since he had picked it up. He had originally followed the cat into the park, and seeing as going through the park would get him where he needed to go too he decided to continue on through it. He was told time and time against not to go through it, but just this once he figured it wouldn't hurt. There wasn't a soul in sight after all. "Stop struggling..." He mumbled as he paused momentarily to situate the cat once again so it wouldn't get away easily. Al was a kid that was kind at heart, however, sometimes he was oblivious to situations like this where his kindness wasn't understood but he forced it anyway. "He won't like it at first, but he'll get you food. I'll take the blame... I promise." he said again, a little angry now that the kitty wouldn't stay still long enough to get it to his brothers house. It had been about six months since his brother had graduated and moved out. To Al's understanding though, or from what he's been told, teenagers that just graduate don't normally move out immediately. They don't have the guts... or the money but it was different for his brother. He was different, and little Alphonse admired him for it. Besides, there was nothing better than spending the night with his brother, although an overall well behaved kid... he still enjoyed having no bedtime like any kid would. It was at that time while he was still struggling with the cat that something caught his attention. To his right, on the edge of the pavement that went straight through the park was a man sitting on a bench. And this was by far the most unkempt man Alphonse had ever seen. Absorbed in the way this man was literally doing absolutely nothing, only just sitting there, he was caught off guard by a particularly desperate flail from the cat. A paw went across his cheek and left a few red lines there as he finally broke free. Putting a hand on his cheek he frowned deeply, upset for only a moment before turning his focus on the man again. Taking a few steps towards him he leaned towards him curiously, his hands now behind his back in a rather innocent stance. "Hello sir...?" he began, "You have a lot of hair. Almost as much as my brother, but he doesn't have a beard. When was the last time you shaved?" he asked, his face scrunched up in distaste momentarily before he felt ashamed and immediately brought his hands up to cover his mouth. "I mean, I'm sorry, I didn't mean that!"
RikkaTag
(And didn't teach them "Don't talk to strangers, especially big hairy ones that smell bad.") Roy was rubbing his face and staring at the ground. There wasn't much else to do until later in the evening. He thought a nice short nap would do well. It was about then that he heard the small person speak to him. He looked up and stared at said small person. No one had talked to him before but to sneer and ridicule. This kid seemed to think the knowledge of him not shaving was a bad thing to point out. He would laugh, but he was still staring in awe at the kid. He put his hand up and shook his head at the child's apology and tried a smile. He thought better of it then and hastily dropped the smile. His voice was rough and scratchy when he spoke, it really kind of hurt to speak. "Stop. It's okay, kid." He grunted as he stumbled to his feet and looked down at the blonde. "Y-you're a middleschooler? Cute kid." He laid a hand on the kid's head and ruffled his hair a little. "You should run on home. Your parents will be worried." (Sorry, Subby. u.u My next post will be emaculate. I promise.)
Subconscious_domain
((Oh little Alphonse, you need a lesson about the phrase 'stranger danger'. I can always have Alphonse come back and drag Roy along at that time He doesn't have to go now. You can have Roy refuse and Al will just try again another day.)) He had blinked a little in surprise and was contemplating moving along like the stranger had suggested. His eyes wide as he wondered what had happened to this man and why he couldn't afford a razor. Or good clothes. Or a haircut. He turned his head towards the direction home and brought a hand up to wave goodbye but after taking a few steps he stopped and turned back to the man, "You don't have a home huh?" he asked bluntly, a frown on his face. "Brother says that there's a lot of people without homes downtown. But not here." his eyebrows furrowed as he thought about it, "Which is silly, because I'd much rather live in a park too than downtown if I didn't have a house. You're smart, it's nice here." he was a smart kid, and usually he knew what was right and what was wrong to say. It didn't occur to him until after having spoken though that he might have been in the wrong. Kids would be kids after all. "Ahhh, I did it again!" He said, his hands coming up to his cheeks in shock at his own carelessness. "I keep saying mean things, I'm sorry." and with that his own stomach growled. His brother was waiting for him, and he would be waiting for him with food. He had forgotten how hungry he was since having been distracted with the cat and now this man. "As an apology, I'll give you some of my snack food. Are you hungry? I don't know what we're having, and its not like my brother makes anything awesome like my mom, but I'm sure he'll have something at home."
