“Maybe we should redecorate just a little?” He offered softly. “Let you claim it as yours? When you’re ready.” Vaughn knew just how much the Prince had loved his father. He held him a moment, giving him a squeeze.

“Of course.” He knew that Ceries could do this. “The garden might be nice if you want to take him for a private walk?”

They headed outside. The palace had a slightly different vibe right now. In the distance.... Vaughn was sure he saw the other Prince and his entourage.

Ceries felt his chest tighten at the idea of redecorating. He knew it was probably for the best but the idea of losing a place that was tied to so many of his memories with his father was too painful... "When I'm ready..." He said softly.

He nodded at the idea of going on a walk with the other prince, it would be nice to catch up for a bit. He gathered himself and walked to the entrance.

After just a few minutes Advyk arrived in a carriage drawn by two sturdy horses. His own personal guard, Nivair, assisted him out of the carriage. Nivair was a tall man, lean but muscular. He had lightly tanned skin and short black hair. His eyes were pitch black, even the sclera. He was very quiet and always seemed on high alert when it came to his prince.

Advyk was just a few inches taller than Ceries and really did look to be about the same age. His dark purple hair was cut to his shoulders and his pale blue skin was completely smooth and hairless, almost like a dolphin. He had pale green eyes and finned ears, as well as a thin fish-like tail. He was bundled up in a few layers of clothing to keep himself warm. He smiled at the sight of Ceries, although his eyes were sad. "Ah..." He hurried up the stairs, stopping in front of Ceries and gently taking his hands. "It's been too long little bird..." He murmured, keeping his voice low so that no one besides the two princes and their guards would hear. "I am so sorry... I wish I could have come sooner..." He spoke with an odd accent.

Ceries blushed softly at the old nickname and lowered his head. "There's no need to apologise... Thank you for coming."

Vaughn watched. There was an increase in his vigilance with the newcomers around but he still appeared relaxed as he stood beside Ceries. He inclined his head politely to Nivair, they’d spoken a few times in the past. Not necessarily friends but definitely not enemies either.

He remained quiet as the two Princes spoke. It wasn’t his place to speak. Still! He was pleased that Ceries seemed happy. Clearly he needed this!

Nivair returned the nod, remaining silent.

"Let's get you inside... You must be chilly..." Ceries said, stepping back from the other prince. Really he wanted to have a bit more privacy, he felt like he was going to start crying after seeing his old teacher.

"If you don't mind." Advyk laughed softly. "I think it will take me some time to adjust to your climate again." Advyk's own country had a tropical climate, so the cold air was difficult for him.

Nivair opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by his prince. "And I have already said that I don't need your coat Nivair." Advyk said firmly, not even needing to look at the guard to know what he was about to suggest.

Nivair frowned and bowed his head respectfully.

Ceries couldn't help but smile at the interaction, the two really hadn't changed at all. "It's much warmer inside." He promised, leading the two inside towards a sitting room.

Vaughn has always got the impression that Nivair was a little like him.... closer than most to his Prince. He’d never said it though!

“I can always put the fire on if you’re still cold, your majesty.” He offered politely. Not looking directly at the other Prince. They made a strange quartet as they walked, princes in the centre flanked by guard on each side.

"That would be lovely." Advyk smiled at Vaughn, he had never really spoken to the guard but he knew how much Ceries trusted him.

Ceries reached the sitting room and sat on the couch, letting out a soft sigh.

Advyk sat down next to him, his smile fading to an expression of concern. He glanced up at Nivair and gave a slight nod.

Nivair hesitated for a moment before stepping out of the room to wait outside of the door.

Ceries lightly bit his lip and looked up at Vaughn. "Would you excuse us for a moment Vaughn..?" He asked softly.

Vaughn stood for a moment, considering the fire until he realised the dismissal was at him. “Of course, your highness.” He bowed slightly and excused himself, taking up a stance outside the door and closing it behind him.

He knew Ceries would be okay... but he couldn’t help but worry. Looking to Nivair he asked hushed; “Was your journey okay?”

Nivair nodded slightly, he seemed uncomfortable to be out of sight of his prince. "There were no issues..."

After a few moments Ceries could be heard crying softly through the door, quietly talking to Advyk about how much he missed his father and how much the responsibility was scaring him.

Nivair pretended not to notice. He stayed quiet for a minute before attempting to continue the conversation. "Have the ceremony preparations been going well..?"

“That’s good....” he offered.

Vaughn couldn’t ignore the crying. He looked at the door a little but made no comment about it. Poor Ceries.... but he needed this.

The silence didn’t bother him.

He nodded, “indeed. Prince Ceriesti will do the kingdom proud.” He meant it too. Felt it with every fibre of his being!

"He was always a hard worker..." Nivair nodded. "Out of all of Prince Advyk's students, Prince Ceriesti had the most dedication. I am sure that will make him a good king."

He paused for a moment. "Is there anything I should know about Prince Advyk's new student..?"

Vaughn had been there. He knew that. He’d seen how desperate Ceries had been to be better, stronger..... but no matter how hard he worked, or how much he wanted it.... his powers never got stronger. He knew that hurt the Prince even to this day! “Thank you.”

He frowned at that. There was a fine line between respect, honesty and necessary.... but! He wouldn’t let Brenton harm another Prince. Vaughn lowered his voice, “don’t trust him...” He looked to the man, “don’t leave him alone with Prince Advyk. He appears to be an extremely powerful fire user but is undisciplined.” There. The other could take that as concern for his powers taking over instead of Brenton simply being a total bastard! It didn’t set Brenton in a negative light but got the message across.

He hoped.

Nivair nodded slightly, although his face remained emotionless. "I see. Thank you..." He hesitated for a moment. "Please... Do not tell Prince Advyk the same thing, unless you must... He may take that sort of thing as a challenge..."

Vaughn nodded, “he is unlikely to ask me. But I will endeavour not to repeat that.” He couldn’t promise that Ceries might not have something to say about Brenton.

Vaughn looked over as he saw Syi rubbing towards him. She looked flustered and... charred! What had happened. “Vaughn! I heard....” she spotted the other guard, bingo! “The other Prince is here. We might have need of his powers.”

Vaughn frowned. “Calm down, Syi. What are you talking about?”

“Mr Black! He lost his temper when some kid tried to steal his wallet.... and now half of the city is on fire!” That panicked look in place again.

Vaughn frowned. “Go get the others. Head into town with buckets and fill them however you can to help put the fire out.” He turned and knocked on the door, hating to disturb them.... but he knew Ceries would feel more responsible if they didn’t!

Ceries had finally finished crying and was just snuggled up to Advyk as he tried to fully calm down. He pulled away from the other prince and quickly wiped his eyes at the sound of a knock. "You may enter." He called out, doing his best to collect himself.

Vaughn stepped inside, keeping the door mostly shut to shield Ceries from the outside world. “Please pardon the intrusion.... its....” he looked to Ceries, “Mr Black has lost control in the town and part of it is currently on fire. That’s all the information I have. I have asked Syi to gather the others with buckets and head down to help put it out....” But I fear the worse!

Ceries' eyes widened in horror at the news. "W-what..?" For a moment he was frozen in shock. How could that have happened?

Advyk rose to his feet and grabbed Ceries's hand, pulling him up as well. "Come on. You don't have time to sit there and worry. You're taking me into town and I'm helping you clean up this mess."

Ceries allowed himself to be pulled up. "I... I don't know if there's much I can do... Won't I just get in your way..?" His voice was shaky, he was terrified that he would somehow make things worse.

"Your people need you, you have to be there." Advyk said firmly, leading Ceries towards the door. "Nivair, go ahead and help evacuate from the worst effected areas."

Nivair bowed his head and melted into the shadows, completely disappearing from sight.

Advyk released Ceries's hand as they reached the door. "You'll need Vaughn to stay at your side, it is a dangerous time for you to go out in public."

Ceries nodded slightly. "Yes... Vaughn please stay by my side." He was finally managing to get himself under control, he could deal with his feelings on the matter later, for now he needed to act.

The two princes rushed to the town, quietly discussing how to deal with the fire as they went.

Vaughn was pleased the other Prince was there, his experience clearly coming into play now too. Ceries needed this, support during the first ‘crisis’. Too bad it had to be caused by Brenton!

He bowed a little to his Prince, looking up with honest blue eyes. “There is no where else I would be than by your side, your highness.”

He followed, close to Ceries, as they left to the scene.

Brenton was panicked. The panic seemed to be making it worse! He hadn’t meant to do this. He’d just snapped! A snap had led to a spark.... and now? Now he stood in what appeared to be the town square in utter agony as his body was completely ablaze with brilliant, beautiful fire and what appeared to be wings! Bloody flame wings! Coming out of his back. If he wasn’t careful they shifted, licking the roofs and threatening to set fire to even more!

People had given up tossing water on him..... focus on the feeling.... that webbed strand.... but right now? He couldn’t see it!

“Shit.” Vaughn muttered under his breath. It seemed only four buildings were actually on fire.... but the sight of Brenton? Both mesmerising and terrifying at the same time!

Ceries almost froze again at the sight of Brenton, for a moment the plan slipping from his mind. The feeling of Advyk's tail smacking his ankle snapped him out of it. "R-right..." He murmured before taking a deep breath and stepping forward. "Everyone, evacuate the area immediately." He spoke in a loud and commanding tone, somehow manging to sound far more confident than he felt.

Nivair appeared from Advyk's shadow and bowed deeply. "The buildings are empty your highness."

Advyk nodded slightly. "Good... I don't want anyone trapped in there..." He held out his arms and shut his eyes, taking a deep breath. A huge rain cloud formed above their heads and then let loose a downfall of rain. The rain became more and more heavy until it was more than could possibly be natural.

Ceries immediately set to work forming a wall of ice that prevented the rainwater from flooding the surrounding area.

At first the rain to evaporated off his body... but slowly he felt himself cool. His body exhausted as the flames started to go out.

With a grunt he landed on his knees, spent from the sheer extortion of energy. Brenton was barely aware of anyone around him. All he could focus on was the intense buzzing in his ear.

Ceries let out a sigh of relief as Brenton's flames went out. "Thank you..." He trailed off when he realized that Prince Advyk wasn't stopping the rain.

"Stay here please." Advyk hopped over the wall of ice and waded through the ankle high water until he was a few feet away from Brenton. "Well, that was the most impressive tantrum I've seen in quite a while. What was that all about?" He asked, crossing his arms over his chest.

Vaughn stepped closer to the Prince. He wanted to be there for Ceries, even if he couldn’t touch him right now in public.

Brenton didn’t look up straight away. It was taking all his effort to just.... stay awake! He heard footsteps then talking, the snarl automatic since his anger was close to the surface. “Piss off. No one asked for your opinion!” He growled, even drenched, a spark of fire attempted to be reborn.

Brenton looked up, menace and anger deep within his very soul. Even as he was taken aback by this guys strange appearance and regal stance. “Shit......” the other Prince.

He shifted off his knees to sit on his arse. Lowering his head to his knees as he just tried to recenter and calm down fully. “I guess I have you to thank for the rain?” Not exactly an apology, but close. And yeah.... the etiquette was going out the window in this moment! He had other things to worry about!

Ceries looked up at Vaughn, unable to hide his concern. He didn't know if it was a good idea to leave Advyk alone with Brenton, but using so much of his magic had left him exhausted.

"All this destruction and not even an attempt at an apology?" Advyk clicked his tongue in disapproval. "How childish..."

"I did not make the rain for you." He snapped his fingers and the clouds faded away. "If you were not endangering people then I would have allowed you to burn yourself out until you were too exhausted to move."

Nivair disappeared from where he was standing and re-emerged from Advyk's shadow again. He slipped off his own coat and gently placed it on the prince's shoulders without a word. He paused for a moment and stared at Brenton, his eyes narrowing slightly.

Brenton looked up at the guy. Honest. Good. He didn’t need more people trying to kiss his arse. “It wasn’t my intention to harm anything.... so for that I am sorry.... but I suspect you’re not exactly the person I should be apologising to.” His eyes wandered up towards the ice and Ceries then over at one of the homes destroyed. He really had just lost control.... but honestly? He wasn’t even sure how he had lost control!

He shook his head and looked back at the Prince as some stranger appeared and put his coat on the Prince. His Vaughn I imagine.

"That's true, but I doubt that the ones you should be apologizing to are going to be ready to hear it for awhile." Advyk sighed. "It's cold out here. We should go back to the palace and you can explain what happened. Can you walk or does Nivair need to carry you?"

Nivair frowned slightly at the idea but didn't protest.

Brenton snorted. He’d rather crawl than be carried! “I’ll manage.” He grunted.

Slowly he pushed himself to his feet. It seemed his trousers had survived but his shirt-tunic thing was in tatters.... the wings? He’d had wings! He was still amazed by that.

“It looks like we’re ready to return. Are you feeling okay, your highness?” Vaughn asked in a hushed tone.
