syaoran-puu
It was the start of a new day, just after midnight, when Alexander woke with a jolt. He placed a hand over his chest and frowned. Every year he felt the same disturbance... but this year it was stronger... as if... closer? Alex has never figured out the source. With a frown, his mismatched eyes looked to the window. The protective shields were up around the house... one of the few magiks he’d learnt from his mother before her death. Since then he’d bumped into several other hidden beings, always learning what he could from them before they moved on. He had a nice little set of skills now. Yet, Alex remained stagnant and here. He changed enough so the humans didn’t suspect him. Hair always covering his pointed ears when out and about among them. In truth, Alex hated hiding, hated pretending and being the odd one out. Yet without them he couldn’t survive. Their custom paid for his food and lodgings. Getting out of bed, the shirt barely covering his arse as he moved, he stood by the window and looked out into the night. A glimmer caught his eye in the distance... a portal? A shadowy figure appeared too, too far away for him to see details. Curious, he quickly dressed and headed over there. Examining it. But the moment he touched it the thing reacted and turned a strange colour.... refusing him entry? He sighed and looked at it before moving away. He’d read so much about them, had been trying to create a portal that would let him leave this realm... but no matter what he did he couldn’t seem to go through. Why? He didn’t know! Leaving the portal he started looking around. He couldn’t see who or what had come through.... but that didn’t matter. Spotting a drunk human he dodged out of the way. Now wide awake he slipped towards the river and started to walk along the waters edge. He had neglected his eyepatch since it was so dark out, but his hair was covering his ears out of habit. His heart racing he found himself wanting to read his portal books... maybe he could decipher more of them? He’d try later. zekusu
It was the time for his one day of leave from his work. He hadn't particularly been looking forward to it, but this time it seemed like the day might actually turn out to be nice. The location of the portal was the same every time, but what the surroundings looked like were completely different. Last time, the land had been a patch of greenery with trees in the horizon, but the river hadn't gone anywhere. Now there was even some poor souls living around here as well. "Might be worth mentioning to Kalma..." he mumbled. The language he spoke was ancient, but it came out sounding modern. It was one of those glamours that allowed him contact with other people if he were to get entangled with any of them. The glamour even changed from language to language, almost like a rosetta stone. What made him happy were simple things. He walked around the little town as he observed the living. He even went to the burial grounds to see how the methods of burial and farewells had changed in all these years since he last walked on this land. There was an ongoing funeral, to which he distantly part-took by whispering prayers for the dead and hoping them a safe travel to the underground. He didn't need to drink or to eat, so he spent none of his time doing neither. He saved the best for last as he settled by the river, dipping his feet into the water and for some reason, this always made him feel warm on the inside. Maybe a bit too warm, he fell into a comforting sleep when he closed his eyes. When he opened his eyes, he... felt different. The sky was darker than it had been and something made him feel strange. He looked at his feet and they were still in the water, but they weren't as filthy as they had been for years now. He tilted his head in curiosity and peered into the water. He saw his reflection poorly, but it was enough for him to tell that he had very little time left on that portal. His eyes had turned black already and the glamours had worn off. He quietly cussed, the words leaving his lips ancient as he quickly stood up and started to make his way back to the portal, keeping his eyes low as a method of not attracting attention to himself. He managed to ward off the attention of others, which meant that he was going to have a safe way to get back home. He wouldn't want to spook anyone and start a rumor of a vanishing ghost or something. It had happened before, which is why it had taken years until he had managed to get permission to go out again. After all, it took a specific kinda being to see portals in the first place. They were... not exactly for humans. When he returned to the spot where he had left from, he saw that... the portal wasn't there anymore. He touched the spot where it had been, first thinking that his master was playing a joke on him, but when it didn't appear even by touch, he got worried. And eventually, there was panic in his throat as he mumbled words of magic that should summon the portal, but they wouldn't. It just simply seemed like the portal had... wiped itself out of existence. Leviatan fell on his knees and cursed and not knowing what to do, he curled up into a little filthy ball against the closest house. He cursed and cussed and even cried, hoping that the portal would come back, but... nothing. His only way home had vanished. Leviatan | Ageless | Male | Unknown sexual disposition | Underworld dweller | 5ft 7inch | Malnourished Biography: He doesn't remember his life before he became an underworld dweller, but what he can see of himself, he cannot have been very loved. His body is immortal and cannot change shape, leaving him looking malnourished and young. The only thing that's changed in those years are his eyes that have turned pitch black from being in the underworld for so long. He spends his days taking souls from the side of the living to the side of the dead on a small boat. Every now and then, he gets a day on the surface where glamours are placed to make him look more human, but they wear off closer to the time when the portal is going to close. syaoran-puu
Alex rubbed his eye, it ached but he was used to that. Heading home he let things just let the night air rush over him, whatever had summoned the portal had opened up a world of intrigue within him again. He almost tripped over the figure in the darkness, but something made him pause, some instinct. Alex frowned and quickly looked around before bending to look at him. His blue, demon eye glowed, almost as if reacting to him. He frowned at the creature, reaching and tentatively touching his shoulder. “A-are you okay?” Alex asked. He looked up to the house then to the sky. “We should get you inside. My home should be safe.” He offered. Though he wasn’t sure why he was offering to help. He glanced over at the portal.... or rather where it had been?
