He followed him throughout life, without a peep, a silent, quiet little sheep.

Not a word was uttered or an objection, as all he yearned for was affection.

A quiet little sheep. A silent, little sheep. And the wolf led him, day in and day out.

It all started in his Junior Year. The Sheep had drifted through, wandering about the school without leaving a mark. He was nothing special. His fleece was not the prettiest, or the thickest. He was not the tallest, or the shortest. His bleats quavered slightly, but were unmemorable, even when they were uttered.

The Wolf changed that. The Wolf saw the sheep, this unremarkable sheep, and he stole him, not at first, no, it was slow. It was a pace in which the Sheep would be comfortable with, a stroll. The Sheep wouldn't notice his plan, and when he did, he wouldn't care. It wasn't stealing. It was luring.

He was roped in within a month.

After that many things occurred. The Wolf left the school when his graduation came, but never really left, always there before and after, always calling or texting. He left his marks on peoples' minds and on the school (and also on The Sheep.)

The Sheep graduated a year later. He left feeling scared and anxious, the freedom of life weighing him down. The Wolf helped him with that. The Wolf led him, took him into his arms and walked with him, talked with him, showing him that life wasn't so scary with a partner. The Wolf. His Wolf. Was he his Wolf? Maybe he was just The Wolf, and he was His Sheep. That seemed more accurate. Much more accurate.

A few months later, The Sheep found himself in the hospital. His bones broken, bruises and scratches and slices finger-painting their way over and across his body. The doctors never did find out who had done it to him. No, they had, but not in the manner where there was evidence to be produced or prior records to bring to the attention of the police and other officials. All they could do was see The Sheep be walked back to the lair for another feasting.

The Wolf take a slow time with feasting. He didn't like to devour his meals quickly. Not when they could last. And especially not when they were stupid enough to stay in the first place. And he only thought women were like that.

--

They buried The Sheep in a small funeral. Not many attended. The Sheep hadn't made any friends over his course of time. The Wolf had spoke some words about his Sheep, and then he had left to go to a woman across town. And then he went to the casino, and then back to his office to snort up his fix of some hooker's stomach.

After the wild mish-mash of he won't try to remember, The Wolf finally took the time to think about his Sheep.

The Sheep had been unremarkable. He had also been easy prey, as they all are. But he was a good Sheep. He was.. He was-- His. He had been His. Even in death, he was his. The fleeting smiles belonged to him, the tears, the laughs and cries. The convulsions and the screams. Those lips. Those eyes.

His skin. His very essence. The Wolf had taken it all. He'd eaten that Sheep in increments, savoring his taste completely. There were other herds to go to, of course, but that Sheep.. A thought occurred to him. The Wolf didn't often think about his dead possessions. This was rare.

He sat back, and thought some more, remembering, reminiscing.

And the Sheep lie down, finally. Mostly unloved, and hardly remembered. But at least he could say they were in very little amounts.

And even then, he couldn't.

I liked it even if it was sad. Thumb up!
