Yukie back home had talked deeply to Olive about his feelings, this being the same talk he had had with Taichi before they left about how he fell in love with his wife. Olive of course listened and helped settle Viktor and after Yukie had calmed down and showered and took a moment to himself they decided to talk…but before that she sent a simple text message to Cedric.

-Hey so we wanted to invite you to our place for dinner tomorrow. Just a last second celebration. I’m baking a cake. If you can make it we would love for you to come-

Yukie raised a brow as he came out and saw Olive in the kitchen finishing his work the man having calmed down about some things he moved on to frustratingly smash the potatoes as he decided to help cook the rest of the meal while they finished talking.

”I… just don’t know what to do!” Yukie added as he slammed the potato masher down hard into the potatoes taking out his frustrations on the poor baked spuds. “I’m just so mixed up inside because… what-what if he doesn’t feel the same way I do? What if he rejects me because such a relationship is ridiculous to him? Do I just laugh it off, act like it doesn’t hurt?” Yukie asked as he ranted about his feeling to Olive before he then took a moment to add milk, then butter before continuing his aggressive work. 

“I’ve just…I’ve never felt this way about someone like sure I’ve had crushes and dated a little.” Yukie explained as he set aside the potatoes and settled down on a kitchen chair.

”I wouldn’t exactly call that relationship a real relationship you two only got high and made out. Not exactly healthy…either” Olive pointed out as gently as she could as she played with Viktors toes finding them quite small and cute. Yukie could only groaned and got up to pace the kitchen hiding his scarlet face in his hands for a moment as he was reminded that he was also so inexperienced in other areas.

”I don’t know what to do…I’m…inexperienced on this kinda romance stuff…and well…elsewhere…in the um bedroom area, I always lost my nerve when it went that far and it’s why they never progressed.” Yukie admitted as he blushed at his own realization that there would also be the obstacle of figuring out how to do relationships well enough to keep Cedric happy.

Olive who was watching the meltdown just held Viktor having taken over feeding him his formula now to give Yukie a break for the night so he could get some sleep later after dinner.

“I don’t even know how to ask him out because there’s so much tension from before and he’s been so busy lately… I’ve already been a burden on him enough.” Yukie finished with a small hurt laugh as he settled down at the table again watching the two. 

“If you love him…and truly love him…then you should tell him everything. If he rejects you then we have your back and will get icecream after.” Olive joked trying to help Yukie with his feelings. “You know Cedric Yukie. You know deep inside he wouldn’t intentionally mock or hurt you even if he didn’t feel like you do. If you ask me though…I think he cares for you, he came so often to see you when you got attacked. I know you really love him also because you saved the flowers he brought and dried them but you keep them in a box in your closet because you’re so shy. You carry around the books he gave you, and they are your most read and loved since then. I don’t see him being like the others you’ve experienced…even if he doesn’t have the same feelings or your feelings towards each other change I think you still could remain in his life, because he values those around them.” Olive explained gently watching as her dear friend relaxed at her words.

”Oooooh groooooooosssssss. They are being all emotional and sentimental~.” A teasing union of voices rang out as Luca and Lucas popped in kitchen the twins laughing a little as they threw confetti around the room both wearing party hats. 

“Crying about getting older old man?” Luca asked with a laugh as he threw a little more confetti.

“Naw he’s always gunna be the youngest here!” Lucas teased as he joined in the two laughing and dancing around the kitchen.

”I picked up these two stragglers down the road. They were wearing the hats and everything.” Taichi groaned as he carried his bags in and set them down only to instantly go straight to Olive just to snuggle his little Viktor who was just as happy to see his father. “They must be jet lagged as hell or to tiered to notices numbers since your birthday isn’t till tomorrow.” Viktor added as he chuckled and was quite happy Yukie had succeeded in keeping Viktor alive.

”I thought you were having a romp in the sunny countryside?” Yukie asked confused why Taichi was back so soon but was grateful he didn’t have to wake up all night to feed Viktor again.

”We both decided to moved closer for work. Plus, I can’t accept Cedric’s offer if I’m traveling hours to get here.” Viktor explained with a chuckle as the ex hunters all were finally reunited in joy and looked forward to being  back home together again.

Cedric glanced back at Eric seeing that he was still standing in his room. He had given him his report...so why was he still here? He sighed seeing the expression on his friends face. 

"What is it....what's bothering you..."

Eric said nothing for a long moment, but finally...he spoke. "Why don't you use...all your abilities? "

 

Cedric turned his attention back to the window. He found the night sky, full moon, and stars quite beautiful. " Just because you have power...doesn't mean you should use it. And besides... I want people to respect me...not fear me..." 

Eric smiled softly. "And that is why...I follow you."

 

The two fell silent again... the only sound that could be heard was the crackling of the fire in Cedrics bedroom. Eric didn't want to leave Cedric's side...because he knew how stressed, tired, and lonely the man was...dispite hiding it so well. He was worried about him. 

 

*buzz buzz*

 

His phone went off, but Cedric didn't move from his spot. 

" Your not going to check your phone"

" ...Later..." He muttered. Resting his head against the cool window glass. 

"...Lord Cedric...we are all worried about you. You know that you could rely on Asuna, Lucas and I. You don't always have to do everything by yourself...and the hunters...ex hunters...they seem sincere about joining you."

 

Cedric did nothing. 

 

Eric sighed, before heading to the door. 

" All I'm saying is...you could utilize us alittle more...I will bring you a drink...please drink it." 

He said softly, before leaving the room.

[ Next Day ]

 

 

Cedric responded to Olive's text in the morning. Telling her he'd be there for her celebration. 

But before that, he spent the morning making reparations for the new organization he was creating and approving the building plans for the Viel Alliance.  

 

The plans for building would start next week and should be complete in four months. This was going to be a huge step forward. 

 

When the time was nearing to meet with the ex hunters, he told Asuna to come, but had Eric and Lucus stay behind.

“Olive…I allowed a small party…I-I dammit…couldn’t you have reined the twins in? It’s suppose to be a small party…just a cake and dinner.” Yukie grumbled as he stood in his bedroom doorway half awake. Looking at the twins still decorating Yukie sighed at the heavily decorated house that was much more excess then he had originally allowed. Walking out to the front porch to take a deep moment to calm himself Yukie could only choke on the air as the outside was also covered in streamers and balloons and a huge happy birthday banner.

Letting out a deeply annoyed groan Yukie went back inside before noticing just how much worse the inside really was. It was covered with more streamers and balloons and confetti than one could ever reasonably handle. “I talked them down from the fireworks.” Taichi added as he held out a small clothing bag for Yukie with a smirk. Got your outfit dry cleaned. You should change…Olive invited Cedric and the others to join.” Taichi teased as Yukie couldn’t help the knot inside of his stomach at those words. “Go take a moment to scream into your pillow get dressed and come out here olive will work on your hair.” Taichi added as he mentioned to the mess of hair that hadn’t been cared for properly in the last few days. Yukie had kept his hair long the length of it now brushing his shoulders though one wouldn’t really notice since he kept it tied up nicely.

”….We don’t answer to you so free to do as we waaaaaant~” The twins declared as they threw a little more confetti at Yukie who could only let out a deeply annoyed groan and slink back to his room to sulk.

-Ah hour later-

Coming out of his room Yukie sighed as he stood adjusting his kimono and looked over at Olive who sat waiting to do up his hair having been watching videos on how to do it properly. Settling down in front of her Yukie leaned back letting her detangle his long silvery white locks. “I appreciate you guys for doing this…but I have a bone to pick with you specifically. You shouldn’t have touched my kimonos…..” Yukie added as he frowned at the thought of someone going through his things.

”Well, I wanted you to look nice. Plus I wore gloves. I’ve seen you care for them often enough to know what to do.” Olive explained as Yukie huffed in annoyance. “I’m sorry, I’ll ask next time….” Olive added as she genuinely knew she would have to ask before ever entering Yukie’s room again. “So, this kimono was wrapped up much heavier then the others and quite nicely in a bigger box. It’s much more elegant than the others…was it your mother’s?” Olive asked as Yukie could only snicker and hold back a deep laugh at her question the realization that she hadn’t seen the labels on which was which rather amusing.

”Oh, yes….it was her absolute favorite.” Yukie explained with a sly smirk knowing just how to get olive back for her snooping in his room, and well he was going to let the consequences fall where they may for her snooping since he could care less about the mixup. “I’m quite surprised you picked her wedding kimono. I thought you would have chosen the one I usually wear for my birthday in the green box. I mean my mother cherished this kimono, she had it hand made even going so far as to help in the process it took two years alone for the fabric, and then another year of her painstakingly embroidering everything by hand. I mean the silver butterflies adoring it were her pride and joy, each single butterfly took a month to stitch.” Yukie explained as he looked at Olive who sat behind him holding the matching butterfly hairpin in her hand her face pale and horrified of her huge mistake.

”Fuck.” She whispered as Yukie patted her hand with a chuckle. 

“I assume we have now learned our lesson about snooping and not asking first?” Yukie asked teasingly as he stood up and picked up the hairpins and with what seemed like quite skilled hands finished working his hair into the beautiful peice it was.

”Yukie I-I didn’t know….we should change you into something else.” Olive asked her voice shaky as Yukie shrugged at her suggestion.

”No, this kimono is perfect…it’s perfect for tonight…my mother wore this kimono once in her life, and then never got to wear it again. She always took joy and pride in her hand made kimonos and well she had the most beautiful kimonos. This one though this piece it was never hers again once she had me and I was born an heir. Father was quite cold to her about using it or even touching it even to the point that he refused to bury her in this like she deserved…he at the advice of grandfather gave her nothing more than a plain white kimono no flowers no nothing to commemorate her death. It was how it was done when our kind died….only heirs were celebrated, and marriage we never did celebrate or do anything like this….” Yukie gestured to the party with a smile.

”my family was always so cold, my grandfather and father always said my future wife would be honoring her memory in many ways when she wore this kimono and her kimonos when we married. They said those same words about everything she left behind. ” Yukie explained as he smiled a sad little smile the memories now bittersweet to him. “ I like to think me wearing this kimono tonight for fun tonight would make her happy, I wear her kimonos to honor her and because i know she would want that. It’s also a bonus I get to really flip off my family in the process, because to them she was just another dowry item collected for my future.” Yukie finished as he smiled warmly at Olive his smile truely a happy smile as he picked up the mirror on the table and finished up the last if his hair with the remaining pins.
 

“Next time ask me before going into my room and touching things, and really don’t stress about it…these things are meant to be worn and enjoyed…so enjoy yourself tonight and have fun with me.” Yukie added satisfied with Olives small bit of understanding of boundaries as his revenge. As Yukie got up and left, he headed off to the kitchen to look at the massive cake that was covered in more candles than needed courtesy of the twins more excessive decorating.

“He’s….much happier, maybe because of Cedric coming or us being home?” Olive mumbled to herself trying to make sense of Yukies train of thought as she stood in the living room in a daze having expected Yukie to have harshly scolded or yelled at her in a fit of rage for her huge mistake, but his reaction left her even more confused. Walking back to the door at the knock she opened it only to find Taichi who came in with a few gifts and some more food and alcohol.

”It looks like some horrid birthday monster threw up….inside and out of this place…. I thought you were going to contain the monstrous twins?” Taichi asked Olive with a raised brow as Olive could only laugh at whole situation of chaos around them before she helped carry in more supplies Taichi having grabbed food both for vampires and humans.

(Yukies kimono just imagine little silver butterflies on it 😆)

Cedric quietly walked with Asuna. There destination? The old hunter dorms.

 

 Cedric was wearing a tight black v neck sweater and black dress pants while Asuna was wearing a simple pink dress that hugged her waist. It was long and flowing, with bell bottom sleeves. It matched her hair rather nicely. 

 

She glanced over at Cedric, who seemed to be lost in thought. The pureblood had alot on his mind lately and she couldn't help but feel like he was pulling away from them... 

 

"My lord...are you alright? "

 

Cedric was pulled out of his thoughts hearing Asuna's gentle voice. He quickly turned to her, smiling softly. " I am.... " he said softly. 

 

Tho deep down he wasn't.... to be completely honest Cedric didn't know how much longer he could keep up this lie. Ever since the day Cedric found out about the Hunter Associations scheme to kill him using the hunter he found himself growing attached too... he was extremely withdrawn. Many unpleasant thoughts crossed his mind... and he wasn't sure about what part of Yukie and his interactions were true and genuine...and what parts were fake and fabricated in order to get close to him.

 

He had confided in the human... visited him when he was sick...cared for him...kissed him....

 

And even tho the kiss was rushed and used to silence Yukie in his moment of panic...he...didn't dislike it. 

 

Purebloods had the ability to read peoples thoughts...they were the only vampires who could do this...and yet... His parents raised him to not use this ability. They wanted him to learn how to trust people and not invade other people's privacy. " You do not have the right to other people's thoughts. " 

He could still hear his mother telling him this repeatedly. "Forcing people to due your biding is wrong... you will learn to gain respect...but it will not be though force or fear..." His father once told him. Reminding him that using Obedience on a person was forbidden in their family. 

 

He admired his parents and there ability to connect and lead others...there compassion and consideration for vampires and humans alike...but now he was experiencing something he never thought he could...fear of betrayal...

 

He already experienced it once...and once was enough for him. Until he knew he could trust Yukie and his comrades...until they proved themselves...he would need to read their thoughts....

 

The two vampires had reached their destination and Asuna knocked on the door. The two waited for a brief moment before they were greeted by Olive and ushered inside. 

The two were surprised by the many decorations all over the room. Cedric was not expecting to be invited to a birthday party and poor Asuna seemed to be overwhelmed by everything. 

" Um...m-my lord...what's going on?" She whispered in his ear. 

" It appears to be a birthday party."

The female bit her lip, "oh..." She said quietly. She had never had one...much less attended one. Had Cedric known he would of tried to prepare her...

"I feel bad... we didn't bring a gift." He said to Olive, giving her a compliment about her beauty while Asuna politely waved at the others. 

" Who are we.....cel...ebr...ating..." His voice slowly fading when his eyes fell on Yukie who stepped into the room...He hadn't been this taken aback in a very long time...he couldn't help but stare in awe at the stunningly beautiful kimono the boy was wearing, and the amount of detail placed into the fabric was breathtaking...

 

"Oh wow~" Asuna immediately approached Yukie, grabbing his hands and pulling them to her chest. "You look lovely!!!! I have never seen anything like this! " She practically drooled over him, touching all over the fabric. "Your as pretty as a girl! And your hair! You could be in a movie...I would love to wear one of these!"

 

Cedric quickly regained his composer, " You look beautiful..." He said softly. He gently tugged on Asuna's collar, wanting her to take a step back from Yukie...he could tell that he was startled by Asuna's forwardness...

"Asuna...remember we talked about this...personal space.." She quickly nodded, releasing Yukie and taking a step back. "S-sorry." 

 

He gently patted her head, turning to Yukie. 

"I assume it is your birthday? We are grateful to be here to help you celebrate it.."

["I feel bad... we didn't bring a gift."]

“Oh don’t feel bad or worry about it.” Olive whispered as she chuckled and smiled at the two quite greatful they made it leading the two inside more as the three waved from the kitchen waiting on Yukie. “We have drinks and food set up in the kitchen, and well we got some things for you two to snack on and drink incase you came… courtesy of Taichi. To be honest we really had to wear Yukie down to even consider celebrating, and well you two are a surprise guests. I thought he might be happy seeing you guys again.” Olive admitted with a small smirk as she walked off into the kitchen to grab herself a drink right as Yukie came out of his room.

”Honestly, did you all really think I wouldn’t see the shiny as hell boxes shoved under my bed?” Yukie asked with a small amused laugh as he shook his head in slight annoyance but well he couldn’t help but feel touched by the ex hunters actions.

["Oh wow~" ]

Yukie blinked for a second completely blindsided by the sudden appearance of Asuna as he hadn’t seen them in the living room his face instantly blushing bright red as his hands were pulled to Asuna’s chest.

[ "You look lovely!!!! I have never seen anything like this! "]

“Oh! Um thank you, it’s one of my favorites and Olive helped me with my hair. I’m not to great at pinning it up yet.” Yukie admitted as he smiled warmly at Asuna quite happy to see her. 

[ "Your as pretty as a girl! And your hair! You could be in a movie...I would love to wear one of these!"]

“Thank you, you’re so kind” Yukie added with a small amused chuckle as he blushed a little at the compliment trying to adjust from being pounced on so suddenly with touching and compliments. “if you want to wear one Asuna I have quite the collection in my closet you can pick whichever one you want to wear tonight if you want. Olive can help you change into one if you want?” Yukie offered finding no issue with Asuna being so interested and being so close since he saw her as more curious then anything else. 

" You look beautiful..."

Turning to look at Cedric as he spoke, Yukie couldn’t help feel the instant storm of butterflies thrashing in his stomach from hearing Cedric’s voice.

Yukie had never once been called beautiful before and well, that one simple word Cedric had uttered made his heart pound, and his entire body feel like a thousand fireflies had been unleashed inside of him each one making his body burn in a new deepened desire that he didn’t even know himself existed.

Yukie had found that deep inside he really really liked how Cedric had spoke so kindly to him when he called him beautiful and well…he really couldn’t hide the deep blush that graced his cheeks from the sudden realization of more of his feelings.

”T-Thank you, you’re so very kind to say such things.” Yukie whispered his ears only burning even more as he looked deep into Cedric’s beautiful eyes for a moment. Catching himself suddenly staring Yukie quickly looked away from Cedrics gaze feeling as if he would melt into a puddle if he looked at Cedric another second longer. 

Instead he looked toward Asuna to ease his nerves who by now was easily being removed from his side. As Yukie took a moment to calm himself as she was talked to by Cedric about her actions.

["S-sorry." ]
 

”Oh, no worries. It made me quite happy to see you so interested…and um my offer still stands.” Yukie replied as he smiled softly at Asuna only to jump a little as Cedric spoke again.

["I assume it is your birthday? We are grateful to be here to help you celebrate it.." ]

Cedric’s voice so beautiful as he spoke the realization sending a pain into Yukies chest as he realized just how much he had missed being around Cedric since everything had imploded.

”Yeah…you know…22. Thought I would celebrate a little differently this year. ” Yukie admitted as he mentioned to the kimono and let out an awkward little laugh. 

“Really thank you for coming and wanting to celebrate. I’m glad to see you two again.” Yukie admitted as he was failing hard at making small talk the man having never gotten use to the social aspects of life.

”Oh man we could see you drowning from the kitchen. At least invite them to join us, instead of keeping Cedric and Asuna all to yourself~.” Taichi teased as he casually threw an arm around Yukies shoulder the act quite playful and distracting and quite brotherly. Smirking slightly at Yukies guard being down Taichi moved his hands quickly to add a pink paper birthday hat onto Yukies head before turning back to the kitchen. 

”Suck it biiiiiitches! I got the birthday hat on the birthday boy~~~~~ pay up!” Taichi sang out as Yukie couldn’t help but roll his eyes and laugh at the silliness of the challenge.

“Sorry, they have been doing birthday games. The hat was one of them? Honestly I don’t understand their rules to the games…but they seem to be happy playing them” Yukie admitted as he was confused by the way they celebrated since he had grown up doing things completely different back home.

”Oh that is totally not fair, he’s a sitting duck around those two!” Olive replied back as the three losers grumbled and tossed out the money on the table Taichi eagerly collecting his spoils.

”Alright, enough games let’s do the cake…making sure to not burn the house down.” Yukie asked as the twins ran off to grab the lighters leaving everyone to hang out for a little bit.

Cedric titled his head slighly hearing Olive call them 'suprise guests' 

( So he's not expecting us....) He thought to himself. 

 

He fell silent hearing Yukie approaching. Asuna couldn't help but be in awe of the kimono he was wearing. Yukie seemed to appreciated the compliments and even offered Asuna a chance to wear one herself. 

 

Asuna looked suprised and rather touched. She glanced back at Cedric as if to ask permission, but he simply shrugged his shoulders. 

( You don't need my approval to wear something Asuna... do as you wish ) he told her telepathically. Asuna immediately turned back to Yukie, ecstatic.

" I would love too!" 

 

Cedric kept his distance from Yukie...not wanting to trigger any sort of trauma...but he couldn't help but notice how Yukies demeanor seemed to changed when he complimented him. How his heart beat quickened and his cheeks turned pink... almost as if...he was flusthered. 

 

It had been a very long time since he'd gotten that sort of reaction from him again. Perhaps that means...Yukie had gotten better and was recovering. ( I almost forgot....how cute he could be...)

 

When Yukie confirmed to them that it was indeed his birthday and that he was turning 22, Cedric felt a little bad that he hadnt brought anything. 

" I see...I'll be sure to make it up to you. "

 

[ “Really thank you for coming and wanting to celebrate. I’m glad to see you two again.”]

 

( yes....) he thought to himself. He hadn't seen Yukie this happy in awhile. 

 

Taichi soon entered the room, teasing Yukie and giving him a brotherly hug only place a birthday hat on his head. 

 

 [ ”Suck it biiiiiitches! I got the birthday hat on the birthday boy~~~~~ pay up!” ]

 

Cedric smirked alittle, finding Yukie in a birthday hat rather amusing, but Asuna was rather confused by the entire thing. However, Yukie was nice enoigh to explain it.

" oh I see... humans are so Intresting. " she smiled. 

 

[ ”Alright, enough games let’s do the cake…making sure to not burn the house down.”]

 

" I'm confused my lord....is setting things on fire part of a birthday party?" 

She whispered, causing Cedric to laugh... it was a gentle laugh. A genuine laugh... and a laugh he hadn't expressed in a very long time. He sighed softly, pating her head as if he was a big brother comforting his little sister. 

" Setting candles on fire yes....buildings? No..."

He turned to Olive. " Asuna... why don't you go with Olive to change into one of those kimonos?"

" o-oh..yes! " She turned to the human and grabbed her hand. " lets go! " 

 

Cedric watched as the two females headed up stairs, Asuna practically dragging Olive along because she was so excited...now...it was just Yukie and Cedric while the rest of his friends prepared things in the kitchen. 

 

Cedric slipped his hands intp his pockets and gave the human a small smile. " I'm rather disappointed that I wasn't the first to wish you happy birthday...." His smile grew. " It's been awhile...since I've celebrated someone's birthday. "

“Oh really?” Yukie asked as he laughed a little at the idea the image of Cedric wishing him something so simple as a happy birthday making his heart burn with a happy warmth. Yukie unknowingly deep inside desperately yearned for such simple loving gestures the human being quite a romantic at heart. Looking over at Cedric’s face he couldn’t hide his nerves at vampires kind words as they seemed rather genuine in meaning making Yukie all the more flustered inside. Looking down at his hands Yukie fiddled with his kimono sleeve to keep his composure.

Just standing beside Cedric again it was as if the whole world had slipped away, leaving them both in a peacefully quiet room with nothing but their own soft spoken words and beating hearts echoing around them.

[" It's been awhile...since I've celebrated someone's birthday. "]

”When is yours?” Yukie asked rather quickly as he couldn’t help but blurt out his curiosity’s. “Since you know…you haven’t celebrated in awhile…maybe I could…be the first to wish you…happy birthday also” Yukie whispered with a small blush as he felt embarrassed to say such a bold request. Taking a deep breath Yukie turned and looked at Cedric before steeling his nerves. He had planned to ask his question much later…hell he had planned something so much more romantic but he was worried…they wouldn’t have much more time alone like this again.

“…Cedric…I um…I…I-I’m in love with you.” Yukie spoke out rather quickly his voice shaking yet gentle as he spoke. Looking at Cedric’s eyes for a moment Yukie quickly looked down unable to meet Cedric’s gaze as he could only focus on his sudden burning face and even brighter burning embarrassment that was making him feel so hot in the cool kimono.
 

“I have always like you…no, I’ve been falling in love with you from the first time we met. To the days you spent by my beside caring for me.” Yukie whispered as his hands shook showing just how nervous he was to put his true feelings about Cedric out there.

“It’s only fair I tell you now… because I don’t know when I will be able to do so again. We’ve been unable to talk for so long and I wanted to tell you the other day but I couldn’t I wasn’t ready to… I know now how I feel, I mean the fact that you cared enough to come here…that your happy to celebrate my birthday…and your always so kind you’ve saved my life more than once and I don’t think I could ever show you just how much you mean to me…you always help me even when I don’t deserve it.” Yukie explained as rambled getting overly flustered as his feelings spilled out. Taking a deep breath Yukie took a moment trying to calm his racing heart to keep his nerve and to also stop from pouring out his soul at how hard he had fallen for Cedric, this all being evident by how flustered he was and how hard his heart was now pounding in his ears in fear of having messed up his confession as he finally steadied himself and fully met Cedric’s eyes before speaking the bare essence of his truest feelings.

“I Love you Cedric.”

Cedric couldn't help but notice how Yukie seemed to grow in nervousness. Was it because he was alone with him?
( Am I ...making him uncomfortable?)

He wondered. The blush on the humans face darkening. He started to fiddle with his kimono sleeves. Even his heart beat was faster than normal.

[ ”When is yours?”]
Cedric smiled softly at the others question.
" June 12...tho vampires don't really celebrate birthdays. " He shrugged.
" I appreciate your kind gesture. "

The atmosphere around Yukie seemed to changed drastically as the human suddenly met his gaze looking extremely nervous but...determined.

He could tell the human wanted to tell him something.
"..yes?"
[ “…Cedric…I um…I…I-I’m in love with you.” ]

Cedric’s eyes widened ever so slightly. For a moment he wondered if he heard Yukie correctly?

"Pardon?"

The boys voice was shaking as he looked at the ground. Cedric listened as he explained himself and his feelings in greater detail and how he felt like he needed to tell Cedric now...since he wasn't sure if or when he'd get another chance like this. He was greatful to him...for saving his life and being their for him when he was ill. He grew attached to him as the days went by.....

This wasn't the first time someone confessed their feelings to Cedric...however Yukie was indeed the first human to do so and for once...Cedric didn't know how to respond. It was usually easy for him to deny someone and let them down gently..
But in this very moment....he didn't wish to do that.

Did he...like him too? He knew Yukie had a crush on him...but...to be in love with him? Well....that was different.

[ “I Love you Cedric.”]


The pureblood bit his lip as he heard those words again...but this time...Yukie was extremely confident... his tone unwavering....and his gaze...unrelenting. He truly ment it...and Cedric didnt sense any malice or ill will towards him. He wasn't lying....and even when Cedric tried to read Yukies thoughts ... they only confirmed the words he had spoken. Yukie...had really fallen in love with him...dispite what he was...and who he was.

" I... see..."

( Thank you...) He spoke in Yukies head. He gently reached out his hand, and took Yukies trembling fingers. He held them firmly in his, hoping to calm him.
( I know it is not easy to tell someone how you truly feel... I appreciate your honesty...Unfortunately...this isn't the best time to have this conversation... however...I would like to discuss this further...when we can be alone...)
He said gently. He brought Yukies hand up to his lips, kissing the back of his hand tenderly.
( Im relieved... This entire time I thought I was scarring you... ) He chuckled.
He was relieved that Yukie wasn't scared of him, but nervous about confessing his feelings.

He released the human as he sensed his comrades approaching.

“I understand if you need time, to figure things out. To tell me how you feel.” Yukie replied as he had calmed slightly at Cedric’s handholding the act making him blush a little more. “I wanted my intentions clear before moving forward alongside you.” Yukie finished as he let out a small sigh at the feeling of Cedric’s lips on his hand. Hearing Cedric worry about scaring him Yukie couldn’t help the small amused chuckle escaping his lips.

“I’ve been learning to get over being scared. Thanks to Viktors excessive anger at my hands and arms while hungry I’ve become slightly numb to biting. Not sure how everything else will work out…but I’m sure I’ll figure it out.” Yukie whispered as he smile completely relaxed with Cedric, since he rather enjoyed holding Cedric’s hand the act strangely calming. As his hand was released at the others coming to get them Yukie couldn’t stop the small frown and sigh as he knew his time with Cedric would end for awhile.

”We got the cake lit, and it’s ready for the song.” Taichi exclaimed as he smiled and waved at Olive who walked down the stairs to join the group, all of them ready to party as Yukie let out a small groan at the sight of the cake covered in hundred of candles. Following Taichi Yukie was bombarded with confetti and streamers curtesy of the twins. Shortly after followed the usual birthday song and a panic as the candles couldn’t go out followed by a small panic and Yukie laughing at the fun. Eventually once the cake was out and served Taichi and the twins moved to the backyard to start the bbq and check the fireworks set up.

Cedric felt slightly touched by how honest and open Yukie was being...perhaps...he could trust him again... infact...he wanted too. 

 

 

When Yukie told him that he was learning to overcome his fears and that Viktor had actually helped him... he was a little suprised. But the human seemed more relaxed in his presence now...which made Cedric a little happy. He didnt like being feared....he could even see the visual disappointment on the humans face when there conversation came to an end. 

 

[ ”We got the cake lit, and it’s ready for the song.”]

 

Cedric nodded and followed Taichi into the kitchen. He was shortly joined by Asuna who was wearing a stunning purple, white, and pink kimono. She seemed extremely happy to be there and by simply wearing the outfit. She thanked Olive and Yukie for the opportunity. 

 

The two vampires watched as the birthday traditions played out and Cedric had to explain to Asuna telepathically what was going on. 

( It's a rather simple song....I thought it would be more elaborate)

Asuna spoke to Cedric. He couldnt help but chuckle. 

( Indeed. )

(Why do they put candles on the cake?)

She asked. ( I believe it is tradition to do so..the candles represent and wish...and by blowing it out...you do so in the hopes that the wish comes true)

" So magic?"

Cedric laughed again and simply patted her head. It was kind of hard to explain why humans did the things they did. 

"No...not magic...just...hopes...dreams..."

 

The two vampires accepted the cake that was offered to them, dispite not being able to taste it. They did so to be polite. 

 

Cedric watched as most of the ex hunters went outside to start cooking and grilling. Leaving him with Asuna, Olive, and Yukie. 

" You have wonderful friends...they seem to really admire and cherish you. " Cedric told Yukie. 

 

"What did you wish for?" Asuna asked curiously.

“We do cherish him in a way, actually I think we’ve just grown quite fond of keeping him around at least.” Olive stated not letting Yukie answer Asuna just yet as she was focused on lightly teasing Yukie who let out a small chuckle as he blushed and stabbed  a little at his cake to hide his embarrassment at the compliment. “Hey Cedric, did you know you can tell when Yukie’s really enjoying the compliments or enjoying having us around. It’s cute because he can’t stop doing it, but his tell is how easily he gets flustered and how much he blushes.” Olive teased Yukie a little more as Yukie instantly frowned and looked at Olive at her brutal honesty.

”Okay, you wanna win that bet so badly with them…I’ll make you really earn it.” Yukie replied mentioning to the board at the last game of the night being who could fluster Yukie the easiest to the point of hiding his face for five seconds. (The ex hunters by this point knew each other so well that the games were quite rather specific.)

“Olive, if you were a hunter giving away my tells would be treason, the punishment for that being simple banishment. Given I am not bound to my old ways and no longer a hunter well you all seem to forget I can be even more harsh in my retaliation.” Yukie shot back with a smirk as he looked at Olive his smile just a little to devious. “Should I tell you who dies and how your book ends?” Yukie asked as Olive held up her hands quickly in defeat at his words dealing how much Yukie had the upper hand.

”alright, alright I’ll back off on the teasing….” Olive said with a pout as she hated Yukie had such glorious ammo on all of them which he had been using throughout the night to keep things somewhat civil when it came to the other ex hunters teasing him to much.

”mmh” Yukie replied with a chuckle as he clearly had won the challenge of teasing. “Nope…not good enough you embarrassed me in front of guests. On Page 483, second paragraph…poor papa falls to his death. The canary ends up being his true downfall and the thorns are stained red poisoning the earth the family was trying to protect and heal.” Yukie whispered as Olive outright smacked his shoulder and glared at him.

”No! You ass! Stop stealing my books for torment! I’m seven books in and you cannot spoil the ending! That cannot be how it ends.” Olive scolded as Yukie laughed daring her to challenge his truth. Looking at Yukie Olive huffed and glared before storming away Yukie easily shrugging off her tantrum watching as she walked off to check on the food grumbling angry insults the whole way. Once alone Yukie looked to the two before looking towards Asuna.

”I can’t tell you my wish, because it hasn’t come true, my ancestors believed that if one spoke of their wish before it came true that  did it would cause a terrible curse to the one who spoke of it. I promise though once my wish happens, I’ll tell you what it is.” Yukie promised as he smiled warmly at Asuna  adoring her curiosity finding it refreshing on how she saw the world.

“I’m sorry for Olive, her outburst…course she’s going to be a lot louder with her anger when she gets to that chapter in three days and find out I made it all up.” Yukie whispered to the two as he smirked enjoying causing some small bits of chaos. “I keep tabs on what they all like and such to keep them all easy to deal with. They see me as a younger sibling lately…it’s been hard to gain any morsel of respect.” Yukie explained as he looked at the four his voice showing no malice at their treatment towards him but it was clear he was able to hold his own against them when needed.

Cedric and Asuna watched Olive's and Yukies interaction rather quietly.

For Cedric... the two of them reminded him of him and his siblings. If one didn't know any better, a typical stranger would of probably mistaken Olive and Yukie as brother and sister with the way they bickered back and forth.

Meanwhile, Asuna seemed to socially withdrawal. She was an only child, and was exiled from society most of her young life. She struggled with social cues, and communicating... she didnt know how to make friends...and right now....she was feeling extremely sad and envious of how the two humans interacted in front of her. Why coudnt she have that short of bond or friendship with someone? Cedric took notice of this and attempted to comfort her.
( It's ok....)

When Olive stormed off and Yukie made his comment about trying to regain his respect. Cedric spoke.
" I see... I'm sorry, we actully need to head back to the dorms now..."

The pureblood didn't want to tell Yukie or the others that Asuna was feeling uncomfortable. He didn't want them to get the wrong idea.
" I'm sorry we can't stay longer..."
He turned to Yukie, speaking to him telepathically:
( We appreciate you having us...Im not sure how long your party will last...but I'd like to discuss your confession in a proper setting...without...distractions.... I'll be waiting for you in the Garden at 11 tonight. )

The Academy had a wonderful garden on campus that was the size of a football field, there were many flowers and hedges, as well as a wonderful white gazebo where most students went to rest, study, or just admire the flowers.

" Please give everyone else our regards. "

“Sorry for the chaos. I know it’s a lot to take in our little family has become quite chaotic.” Yukie apologized as he smiled at Asuna and Cedric a little sad that they were leaving but he knew Cedric probably had many things to attend to.

“I’ll make sure to let them know you had to return back.” Yukie added as he heard a cheer from the backyard as Taichi’s wife and Viktor finally arrived the two bringing drinks for the group.

Nodding slightly at Cedric’s request his stomach in knots at the fact he would get his answer so soon. Unable to keep a small blush aside Yukie helped see them out secretly wishing he could give Cedric a proper goodbye…but well he felt unsure doing anything more then a simple goodbye with all the eyes on them. After the two vampires had left Yukie headed back outside with the rest of the group for some drinks and normal party games until it was time for him to leave later to meet Cedric.

Cedric stood underneath the white gazebo in the Academy garden. His eyes fixed on the night sky. He couldn't help but think how pretty the moon and stars looked...

He couldn't help but recall Yukies words just hours ago.

(( “…Cedric…I um…I…I-I’m in love with you.”))

( Why....this isn't this first time someone has said that to me...so why....why...did I not dismiss him?) Could he be interested in Yukie too? Dispite there extremely different backgrounds...an dispite everything that happened.

Cedric still remembered how the humans voice trembled...how he struggled to maintain eye contact, and his heart beat was racing. There was just....no way Yukie was lying...not when Cedric could read his thoughts and reactions.
 
(( “I have always like you…no, I’ve been falling in love with you from the first time we met. To the days you spent by my beside caring for me.” ))

" The day we met?" He muttered.

He still remembered how cold he was, the extreme hatrd in his voice as he referred to him as a 'blood sucker ' and how he'd willingly and eagerly kill any vampire that wonder too far from campus.

(("  just a warning though we are allowed to shoot anyone who goes off on their own. I’m not bowing or doing any of that bullshit to the bloodsuckers. We are all on equal grounds right? Headmaster made it pretty clear when I came here that this is some acceptance bullshit for the year. So why should I treat him like a king or even better than the dirt I walk on?”)) 

He sighed. ( I guess he's come a long way...)
" No one's ever referred to me...as dirt before then..."

That's the thing tho....Cedric helped everyone. It was something that was instilled in him at a very young age...to care and help others...dispite the pure blood that ran through his vains... Did Yukie simply fall in love with him because he was kind?

Cedric worked extremely hard because he didn't want his mother's Academy to fail...that..and the vampire and Hunter alliance was hanging on by a thread. His only option was to be kind...and when he found out about how the Hunter Association was treating them...his students...he couldn't stand by and not correct the wrong and wickedness that was before him. They needed help...and he was simply in a position to offer it.

(( “I Love you Cedric.” ))

Could he....test that? Could you really fall in love with something you once hatrd and were once extremely afraid of?

He knew people could change...so he couldnt completely dismisse Yukies confession...and for once in his life...he didn't really want to...for awhile he couldn't help but notice how different he treated Yukie. Was it because...he liked him?

Cedric leaned against the wooden railing as he heard foot steps approaching. His gaze slowly shifting to Yukie who had finally showed up.

Yukie...didn't know the real him...so how could he love him? He only knew the Cedric that always performed and kept the peace.

" How was the party?" He asked softly.

“Sorry for being so late. I have to admit I didn’t know the school even had a garden area.” Yukie admitted as he walked towards Cedric, Yukie was wearing a very nice new suit that seemed to be made to fit and well, it accented his body type rather nicely. Walking up the pathway he was also carrying a medium sized paper bag with Asunas clothes, and some nice kimonos of Yukies for her to have. “Honestly when you said garden I actually imagined like a vegetable garden, not flowers and other greenery.” Yukie explained a slight disappointment in his voice as he had been wondering what vegetables Cedric’s mother would have chosen for the students to grow. Looking at Cedric now that he stood before the gazebo, Yukie couldn’t help but admire how the moonlight played on Cedric’s features making the ex hunter a little more enchanted by the males  presence. 

“I brought some things for Asuna, Olive mentioned how she loved the kimono a lot, I thought she might like these ones. They seem more her style, plus it also gives me a chance to pass on how much Olive would like to hang out with Asuna…she won’t outright say it but she does get bored being the only woman in our house. She wants friends.” Yukie explained letting slip Olives shyness to help her situation a little more as he set the bag down on the gazebo floor.

[“How was the party?”]

Walking up the small steps Yukie stood beside Cedric once he was inside the gazebo. Resting on the railing the moonlight was now reflecting slightly on the silver accents to his suit as he turned to looked up at the stars taking a moment to think over what to tell Cedric about the party since so much had happened.

”Well, it was interesting but somewhat empty and lonely after you left despite there being so many people. It’s hard to explain why it felt that way.” Yukie started not sure how to truly express they he had missed the vampires despite having others around.

“We all just continued to celebrate…we ate, had some drinks and played some more normal games. I got a nice suit from Olive, she demanded I wear it to wherever I was going tonight…I think she thinks I’m sneaking out to drink again, though no idea why a suit would be needed.” Yukie explained with an eye roll completely oblivious to the idea that Olive could have guessed he was going out to meet someone. He never would have thought was the reason she refused to let him leave in just sweats and an old baggy t shirt, heck she had forced Yukie to sit still while she brushed out his long hair to where it rested nice and soft almost cascading down his shoulders.

“After the party, everyone went off to bed, Taichi and his wife well they asked me to stay behind and to talk. They wanted me to really officially be a full guardian for Viktor in the event something really did happened to them. Seems they are worried about how others would accept them now they are really married Taichi being an ex hunter and all…It was a shock for me I mean, I never thought I was a good enough option for such a title. It was really nice for them to ask me if I wanted to do something like that. We had a few celebratory drinks and then I spent the next few hours doing a lot of paperwork to make it official, it made me think of you endlessly doing paperwork every day.” Yukie joked his voice playful as he smiled quite happy with the conversation after the party with his dear friends.

”Having no family left, I’m happy to have this small connection to them, even if we aren’t blood related it means a lot to me that they consider me family. They didn’t know it when they asked but I had already been doing the paperwork to changing my studies to do more night student kinda classes if the headmaster allows it. If not I plan on figuring out how I can learn more about vampires for my own sake, for you, and now for Viktors future too” Yukie admitted  as he had grown rather fond of the kid even after only knowing him for three months.

“I’ve been quite ignorant to the world around me during my short life, so I’m trying to do my part and fix everything just like the other hunters.” Yukie finished as he took a moment to think on what to tell Cedric next about his night. Adjusting against the railing to get more comfortable Yukie was almost hesitant as he spoke again almost as if he was afraid to be open with Cedric about his next topic.

“I um…thought about you. A lot, it made me curious on some things so…Taichi’s wife um… well I should really use her name more…” Yukie started with a small blush as he looked towards Cedric before clearing his flustered mind to focus better and not be so nervous, his confidence wavering slightly.

“Lilith, she’s been very kind to me lately. She’s been texting me helping answer my questions…It’s been really great having a neutral party for some of my inquires. Lilith is nice enough to not get angry at my questions about how the other side of the coin lives…you know the vampire side of it” Yukie stated as he looked at Cedric a bit nervous before turning more sideways to speak openly to Cedric to show he was trying to be more forward speaking. 

“I asked her about…some more delicate things- stuff I couldn’t ask Olive or Taichi about or you really. Mostly how a human and vampire relationship works for her and Taichi. I asked well mainly…if she’s ever had to drink blood from Taichi.” Yukie started before looking into Cedric’s eyes a little unease in his eyes at the words he was speaking.

Yukie couldn’t help that he was nervous about speaking his next words since it might strike a nerve being so…intrusive and being a non vampire he understood (from Lilith) it might be taboo to bring up or ask.

”I heard that you haven’t been eating well…I know others around you are worried about you. From what I understand it might be better for you to have fresh blood since from what I know that’s more appealing than blood tablets. I wanted to- I would like to offer my own blood for you to drink. No matter your feelings for me…tonight… I wanted to offer that for you.” Yukie admitted with a small nervous smile as he was trying to ease any tension he might have accidentally caused. Looking down a little nervous Yukie tried to explain even more feeling flustered again by his offer.

”I know health wise…you haven’t been eating…and…you need to care for yourself…it would be easier for you you don’t even need to tell anyone and it would help me also to not be afraid even more of being bitten  I mean Viktor was a great ease back to being around vampires…but he’s easy to deal with he can’t actually hurt me.” Yukie explained as he was nervous admitting he wasn’t sure how fully healed he was in that aspect. “I worry I won’t feel safe around anyone but you.” Yukie whispered feeling slightly ashamed that he was still nervous around other vampires.
