Though, he was sure from the meeting last night, that something much bigger was happening, something that he had no control over. He wondered if his "mission" today would flush out any small clues as to what events that were transpiring.

 

Once clear of the city, the legion slowly moved into formation and they set off.

Throughout the day, Erwin signaled the Scouting Legion to their "base camp" beyond the walls - it was in the ruins of an old fort-like structure. Hanji sighed, and prayed that they would both be ok.

It was no use, as soon as he began to raise his blade to slash into the horse, the titan picked Levi up by the metal, leaving levi dangling dangerously in mid air, levi had a gloomy and neurotic feeling. Usually he would manoeuvre himself to the titan's shoulder, where he could easily swing himself around at the angle, and butcher up the beast. But what good was broken gear. It was probably more dangerous to use than leave it be.

The whirring machinery propelled him forward, faster than the horse could run. Erwin gritted his teeth reaching out for Levi's falling body... His outstretched hand grasped Levi's and Erwin yanked hard, using the momentum to pull Levi into his body. The added weight to the gear caused one of the hooks to pull out, sending them both skidding along the ground. Levi trusted his instincts, propelling himself up against the side of the tree, he noticed the titan had a look of satisfaction over the injured pair, did it have a grudge of some sort? Levi knew he had lived a troubled past, but it occurred to levi he also didn't know much about Erwin's, either.

He didn't come all the way out here in the middle of the night so that Levi could just kill himself.

 

He staggered to his feet, his body screaming in protest, he whistled for the horse to come over so that he could lean against it. He limped out from under the tree, eyes scanning the shadowed ground. He saw a small unmoving lump on the landscape, and dragged the horse with him. Erwin bent over Levi, checking for a pulse and to his relief there was one, Levi had just knocked himself out. Erwin picked Levi up and balanced him over the horses shoulders and swung himself back into the saddle, panting hard at the effort. He scanned around for sign of the titan, but couldn't see it.

 

He took the time to pull Levi upright, attaching him to his harness so that he didn't fall, or if he did, they'd fall together, and kneed the horse back in the direction of the camp, travelling at a pace that jarred him the least. He smiled tiredly, wondering how Hanji was going to take this...
