Neji followed Shikamaru quietly, "Why should I be close to anyone? If I trust them, they'll just stab me in the back in the long run."

"That's a really dark and cold way to look at others. Though if that's how you feel won't you just do the same with others?" Shikamaru asked him with a silent sigh

[{｡^◕‿◕^｡}Ciel]

"I don't do things to or with anyone, therefor I can't stab them in the back. That's the solution to the problem." He said, as if it were the simplest thing in the world.

"What a drag and such a lonely existence you created for yourself. There are tons of people who will always have your back. Take Naruto for instance, he's always on his friends side even if they turn their backs on him." he says

"That's how Naruto is, that is not how I am. I'm different from him, I'm not the same person, therefor I do not behave or respond the same way that he does." Neji's eyes traced the ground, his eyes seemed to betray him, as if he couldn't even believe any of the words that he was saying. Neji did have a soft side, though he never displayed it, in actual fear that if he did, someone would hurt him.

"Then why not a trial test. Befriend someone and see how it works out. Make sure you both get sent on missions together and such. If they back stab you then you prove me wrong. If they don't then you'll have made a friend in someone." Shikamaru says

[{｡^◕‿◕^｡}Ciel]

"Fine, challenge excepted. Who do you want me to be friends with?" His voice was a brute sigh, and his light violet eyes were wandering a bit, from the rubber band he saw, to the clouds, and then to the trees.

[azuneko]

"Pick whoever you want. I don't necessarily have to chose. Just try to find someone you think will be easy to get along with." he says cloud gazing once more.

[{｡^◕‿◕^｡}Ciel]

"Fine. Then, I'll try to be friends with you." The older man said firmly, his pale eyes gazing at the ground as he talked.

Shikamaru tripped over his own feet a bit. "Me..? I suppose that's worth a try. I would be honored to be your first friend Neji." he said

Neji nodded quietly, though didn't say anything after that. Pale eyes flickered a bit, staring off at the nothingess, looking at the pale clouds.

Shikamaru assumed Neji picked him since he was the only one around. He didn't mind since he had a small glint of hope the other would have said so anyway. He stares up at the clouds enjoying the warm afternoon.

Neji was glancing at the clouds, though his eyes quickly transitioned to the birds, watching them fly past him. He was a bird, though he was trapped in a cage, and the only way to be emancipated was death. He had considered suicide so many times, but he had his team and his cousin to live for, even though sometimes he wondered why they meant anything at all. Glancing at Shikamaru, he was so clueless as to how friends were, so he offered his hand to hold. He had seen people who were friendly with each other hold hands, so why not hold Shikamaru's hand?

Shikamaru was lost in the clouds only to be brought back to reality. He looked at his hand in Neji's. This was an odd thing to see but he ignored it. He assumed Neji was going to try many different things that would be considered friendly. Shikamaru decided as long as it wasn't weird he'd go along with it.

Neji intertwined fingers with the younger male quietly, like he saw friendly people do. "So, where are we heading to?"

"Uh I was thinking we could head to my place and decided on something to do that we can both enjoy." he said. Shikamaru was finding this way of holding hands a bit embarrassing.

[{｡^◕‿◕^｡}Ciel]

"Cloud watching, sparring, bird watching...I can't really think of much more besides adding meditation to the list of things to do...or shogi?" Neji was having a hard time trying to think of something.

[azuneko]

Shikamaru thinks a bit himself. He was a loner like nothing else. "OKay then why not try and think what other people do when out with friends. I bet if we observe closely we can find something we both want to try"

[{｡^◕‿◕^｡}Ciel]

"Okay...so what do you like to do in general? I don't really know what others like to do with friends, unless you considered Tenten and Lee my friends, but we only enjoy sparring together." That seemed like a lie, given a lot of people thought that he and Tenten had been together for a very long time, despite the fact that Neji wasn't like that, and heck, didn't even like girls that way.

"Well I like playing shogi or go. I tend to stare off at the sky a lot. I don't really do much either." Shikamaru admits realizing his own social skills needed some work

[{｡^◕‿◕^｡}Ciel]

"Shogi is in terms "fun", I suppose we can play shogi if you'd like." said Neji softly, quietly agreeing with the proposition.

[azuneko]

"Shogi it is. Lets head over to my place." Shiakmaru said as he walked towards his home. He always kept a board of shogi ready for play any time.

[{｡^◕‿◕^｡}Ciel]

Neji continued to hod his hand and walked with Shikamaru, his head a bit low, and he was gazing off at his feet, a bit nervous, he had never been this close to someone before in his life.

Shikamaru glanced over at Neji and noticed the other looked a bit nervous. "I have an idea. Since we both are clearly clueless about what to do here why don't we each go home. Study a bit and then return with some useful things to try tomorrow. We can meet in the training fields."

With darkened eyes, the long-haired male lifted his head quietly, though didn't make full eye-contact with the Nara Clan male, but simply nodded, "Sounds like a plan..."
