He frowned a bit before he looked down, as if he was expecting to get hit, kind of how like Sakura would hit Naruto whenever he'd say that he liked her. Shikamaru wanted to see if this was a friendship kind of like or if this was a more passionate kind of like. Neji did have a small crush on Rock Lee at one point, but instead he pushed his feelings aside. The Hyuga though, felt somewhat attracted towards the caramel-skinned male that was before him. I've never had feelings this strong for anyone before so congrats on being the first to catch me." he says feeling completely shy now. He had small crushes before like for Temari and Ino but it was nothing he'd actually go forth the effort. Neji was clearly different since he tried the extra mile. Seeing Neji rare was very rare, though seeing his eyes filled with affection was never seen before. Such soft lips...such beauty...such a kind soul... He's never seen the other looking so gentle and passionate before. His cheeks heating up as they shared a gentle kiss. It was something almost magical. Neji had surprisingly silky skin, and very smooth hands, despite all of the taijutsu that he relied on.
