At one point, Bernards Township was reputed to be one of the central headquarters for the KKK in New Jersey, and was commonly used for lynching of African Americans. Sharavin then described the state of the large tent that the skiers all shared: [indent]“We discovered that the tent was half torn down and covered with snow. It was empty, and all the group’s belongings and shoes had been left behind. But what's more... the footprints made around the devastated tent disappear exactly on the 1,079 meter from the tent.” ..
