Look I hate commenting in these types of threads, but my word...don't doubt yourself one step of the way. It's not very becoming. Second, I clicked on your link and it's just gorgeous. An absolutely beautiful drawing. I can't stand digital art an yours mate, is just so beautiful. So traditional, reminds me of my days on the sea looking out at the world before me [just kidding, I have a phobia of boats ;P] I wanna say good luck everyone, so far these pieces of art have great potenial. ~ Joyeux Noel! Anic
I blame that quality on my phone's camera. But at least I finally managed to finish it. Veir
Had I known it would be a discouragement to people, I wouldn't have entered. It's a wonderful theme, and obviously has inspired a whole host of great pictures. Digital or traditional, there are many great artists here - I know, I've checked the galleries. Everyone has a different style, and I don't think the 'contest' is as important as the presentation of so many perspectives on the one theme. Merry Christmas and looking forward to a great year at YO.
Silver Radiance
Good afternoon, I wanted to share my opinion if I may. Feel free to disregard if you so desire, it is merely my opinion. Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. I can understand your reaction to the digital art. I do not blame you at all, but do you know what art is at its core? Art is a copy of emotion and thought. Whatever you create is an expression of yourself, you should not try to look at someone elses creations and compare them to your own in such a manner because art is subjective and what you feel inside and how you convey it on a personal level is deeply beautiful. Every line, every shade, all of the simplicities and complexities are apart of you and baring witness to that is a great honor for any beholder. No matter what happens, I hope you feel no fear in showing your efforts so that I can have the pleasure of seeing what your thoughts and emotions can express. I adore this factor about all artists. Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. I am deeply shocked to see such a comment as you 'hate' digital artists.. That is like saying you hate an artist who uses sculpture instead of pen and paper. The medium in which someone chooses to express themselves is also quite subjective, it means something to them on a personal level so I see that as a personal attack on all digital artists. By all means, you don't need to like it nor support it, but hate it? I have managed digital artists for 7 years. They work so hard, so many more hours than some of the other artists I know perfecting layer upon layer upon layer to convey a single image for their audience to enjoy. The pressure to produce something beautiful is quite high, digital artists are some of the most hard working I have ever met. Do you hate them because you feel they 'ruin' it for everyone else? I did not realise art had stopped being an expression of self and started being a mere beauty pageant. This saddens me deeply. I hope one day you can find it in your heart to understand we are all a community and each person is beautiful in their own way and their contributions are to be treasured, not criticized. I do not blame you though, I believe that you lack the knowledge to truely hate, so I encourage you to contact me if you so desire to learn more about the process of a digital artist, we can explore it together so that you can make an informed opinion about the process. The last thing they want is to make anyone feel excluded when all forms of art are such wonderful gifts of expression. To all of the artists in this thread: I have really had such a pleasure reading this thread and seeing all of the beautiful designs you have come up with. Your expressions are so innovative and thoughtful. I hope you each understand the true value of your efforts. I admire each of you.

Key
This thread is for artists to present their views on a given theme. It doesn't matter if it's a digital or a traditional drawing on paper. Everyone is welcome to participate and all drawings are equally appreciated. Please refrain yourself from giving your opinion on the drawings that are participating in the contest. There is an objective jury who decides the winner taking into account both the quality of the drawing and the feeling it gives, in relation to the given theme. Hope we're not spamming out this forum, but I figure the other artists might be interested too. I just 'discovered' prisma this year ^^; But they are good! And a small range can cover a large palette. Prismacolor has thus far been the best for 'coverage' on the page. Especially with Strathmore white paper (it's smoother than most art papers, which also means it's not as good for quick textures like wood, stone etc). And it blends well, so you can turn 20 pencils into lots of colours. If you google prismacolor portraits you will see the effect better than I can describe. I think you'd get great use out of them.
