The demon closed his eyes for a few seconds and let out a sigh. What in the world was he doing? He was sitting in a cave with an angel... This had got to be a huge misunderstanding. Still, it happened... "Oi... Why did you heal me anyway?" Sadius asked while keeping his eyes closed. He knew that if the angel tried running, the snake would bite him without hesitation. He trained them himself, after all.

Julian frowned at the question. "Because I wasn't going to just leave you there to suffer. I had to ability to heal you and so I did. Like I said, I don't care for the war. I'm not prejudice so the fact that you're a demon didn't alter my will to heal you." Julian shifted against the wall, trying to get comfortable. It was hard considering the snake was limiting his movement.

The demon let out a chuckle and glanced at the other. "So what, you decided that you'd heal a demon and we'd both peacefully part ways? You're too naiive..." Sardius said and let out a soft sigh. "I still don't understand what's the point of you rebeling against the war. You can't do anything - why even try?" The black-haired male asked and shifter a bit, getting more comfortable. "If you promise not to run off the second I release you, I can let the snake release you.."

Julian's cheek reddened slightly. "I didn't really think of that, I was more focused on the fact that you were hurt. And even if I can't do anything, it's still a small victory for me, not giving in." He said. He looked over at the demon then sighed. "Even if I do run, you would probably catch me anyway."

Sardius chuckled and shook his head before motioning for the snake to pull away. "I'll get you something nice to eat when we get back~" He whispered softly to the snake as he ran his fingers through the slick skin of the creature. "Why're you afraid of snakes? They're beautiful creatures..." The demon asked as the snake got onto his lap. A small smile could be seen on Sardius' face as he softly stroked the snake's head.

Julian rubbed his sore arms and was finally able to get comfortable, well as comfortable as one could get while leaning against rock. "When I was younger, I would sneak out of the palace, mostly to get away from my father. I had gone in the forest and was walking around. I wasn't watching where I was going and I tripped. I just happened to fall onto of a venomous snake. It bite me right above my heart. When I made it back to the castle I was near death. I was taken to the healers and they managed to extract the venom just in time. Ever since I've been terrified of snakes."

Sardius chuckled and glanced at the angel. "You're a real idiot... The snake must've been scared of you, that's why it bit~" The demon said while gently moving his hand up and down the snake's body. "Snakes are truly frightening if they need to. Even so, if you manage to tame them, they'll be harmless as a kitty." Sardius said and lifted the snake on his shoulders, where it immediately wrapped its tail around his neck. "This one's gotten used to me. She makes a better companion than anyone else..." He whispered as he watched the snake turn its head towards Julian.

Julian drew his knees to his chest, wrapping his arms around them. He was beginning to tremble as the sun went down and the temperature began to drop. He stubbornly stayed where he was even though the warmth of the fire beckoned him. Instead of heeding the call, Julian wrapped his wings around himself, hoping to at least warm up a little bit.

The demon watched Julian with raised eyebrows. “Damn idiot... If you're cold just come here. I need you alive to please my King.“ Sardius said and watched as the snake relaxed on his shoulders, seemingly falling into something close to a slumber. “We won't hurt you unless you start resisting too bad. A broken leg or a wing would be enough... And that's only if you try escaping.“

Julian gave the demon a wary look before stubbornly shaking his head. He wrapped his wings around himself tighter and huddled into a tiny ball. His trembling grew as a cold wind blew through the cave, going right through his wings and thin clothes.

Sardius rolled his eyes and carefully set the snake down, near the fire before standing up. He walked up to the angel and grabbed him into his arms only to carry him to the fire. "Don't be a fool." He only said this as he slowly set the angel down on the ground while sitting down himself a bit further away.

Julian let out a surprised gasp as he was picked up and carried over to the fire. He was set down and Julian watched as the demon sat back down. Julian's wings loosened slightly, his trembling slowing as the warmth seeped inside of him. He rested his chin on his knee, gazing at the dancing flames. His eyes started to flutter shut but he jerked them open, not really sure if it was safe to go to sleep next to the demon. But...he needs me alive. And he said he wouldn't hurt me as long as I don't try to escape so I guess..its..ok... His thoughts trailed off as his eyes closed and he sank into the abyss of slumber.

Sardius glanced at the angel and blinked in suprise. He was atually going to sleep? Wow, talk about being too naiive... The demon let out a sigh and leaned back against the wall, closing his eyes for a bit. He didn't fall asleep. He knew he wouldn't. It was too unsafe to leave that angel completely unguarded... The black-haired male relaxed his muscles and started going through the fighting techniques he learned so he wouldn't fall asleep.

Julian was dreaming...well, more like having a nightmare.

eleven year-old Julian looked up from his book as a servant knocked on his door, telling him his father wanted him. Julian frowned and shut the book, standing and exiting his room. He walked down the hall, down the stairs and into the throne room. What he saw made him freeze in place. There, in the center of the room, was his best friend Adrian...tied up with two guards standing by him. His father was standing above his best friend. Magnus smirked when he saw his son and beckoned him over.

Confused, Julian went. "Father, why is Adrian..." His father cut him off. "Boy, today you are going to prove your loyalty to your country." He handed Julian a sword and he gave his father a confused look. His father pointed at Adrian. "This boy," He growled, "Was found helping a demon. A demon! And so, as you know the punishment is death. I want you to take that sword and run it through his heart."

Julian paled and immediately shook his head. His father scowled and commanded him to do it. Julian refused, backing away. His father gave a snarl of disgust and yanked the sword away from the boy. Julian cried out and lunged to take the sword away but his father hit him with the hilt, sending him to the floor. Julian watched on in horror as the sword descended down and pierced Adrian through the chest.

Julian gasped, crying out Adrian's name as he jerked awake.

Sardius couldn't resist to peek into the angel's mind. He did so as the other was asleep. The view that welcomed him wasn't exactly what he expected from a prince. The demom watched how Julian was forced to watch his friend being killed and tsk'ed. This was nothing compared to what he had to do... Feeling his victims' blood on his hands, hearing their screams and pleads for mercy months after - that became Sardius' everyday reality.

As the angel woke up, Sardius was abruptly thrown out of his mind. A huge headache made itself shown as the demon held his head, trying to ease the pain at least a little bit. "Seems like you had a fun childhood, eh?" The demon hissed out and slowly straightened up, letting out a soft sigh. He was regretting coming into Julian's mind..

Julian flinched and looked at the demon. He had heard stories that demons could read other beings mind but he didn't think it had been true. "What did you see?" He asked in a shaky voice, drawing his wings in close to him again. "If you're going to say I'm a weakling for being horrified of that then I'm sorry to say my father as already beaten you to it." Julian said in an expressionless voice as he stared into the fire.

"Enough to understand I've had worse." The demon said quietly and turned his gaze to the fire. "You don't know of the feeling when you kill someone dear to you... You can't imagine their pleading eyes, their screams as you stab them. You don't know how you say sorry to each one of them..." Sardius finished quietly and let out a shaky sigh. Just a few years ago he was forced to kill his own little brother. He still has nightmares from that... Each night.

"No, I don't know the feeling but I do know the helplessness you feel when you are unable to do anything." Julian was silent for a moment. "My father gave me a chance to heal him..but I couldn't. I could have saved him but I was too weak to do so." That said Julian laid down on his side, wings still wrapped against him.

Sardius didn't let his gaze off the fire as he listened to the other. That angel truly was weak... "I had a brother, 8 years younger than myself." The demon started quietly and closed his eyes. "He wasn't anything like me. He was nice, helpful,kind... Naiive." Sardius took in a slightly hitched breath as thr image of his brother stoof in front of his eyes. "He started meeting with an angel girl once... And he was found out. The girl was killed on the spot, but my brother... They dragged him back, tortured him, tore off his wings... And then they made me kill him. They made me kill my own brother..."

"And now, after all of that, why do you continue to fight when you have seen what this war has done?" Julian asked quietly, pillowing his head with him arm. His wings were draped over him like a white, feathery blanket.

"Because there's no escape from it." Sardius answered and slowly opened his silver eyes. They stared at the fire, yet there didn't seem to be any reflection. "I simply learned not to care... Orders, obeying the King - there's nothing more left." The demon said and let out a soft sigh as he turned his eyes to the starry sky. He wanted to escape from all this... Sometimes he just wished to forget.

"How do you know if you've never tried? And you care, deep down inside you do. You can't stop it, only hide it." He said, shifting slightly to get more comfortable on the ground. Suddenly, a growling filled the cave and Julian sat up. A wolf slowly creep in, teeth bared in a snarl. Julian carefully and slowly stood up, approaching the wolf cautiously with his hand held out. He reached out to touch the beasts mind and felt anger and fear. Julian spoke soothingly in the wolfs mind, telling him there was no reason for alarm, that they wouldn't hurt it.

The growling slowly stopped as the wolf sniffed Julian's hand then gave it a lick. The wolf trotted over to the fire and sat down. Julian shook his head and followed, sitting next to the wolf. Then wolf laid its head down and closed its eyes as Julian softly began stroking its fur.

Sardius watched as the angel took care of the wolf and snarled. "So you're scared of snakes but not wolves? You're one messed up guy..." The demon mumbled and sighed before throwing another stick into the fire. While making more flames appear, the taller male bit his lip as h thought of Julian's words. Maybe they were true after all?

Julian shrugged as he continued to pet the wolf. "I've never been bitten by a wolf. And besides, to live in a word like this you kind of have to be messed up." He mumbled, laying down next to the wolf and covering them both with his wings.

Sardius chuckled lightly and tilted his head. "That's true. Now I suggest you get some sleep... I'm bringing you to the King in the morning." The demon said while looking at the flames. One night without sleep was nothing compared to what might've happened...
