It was early morning, breakfast time really. Yu Kanda was already in the cafeteria, sitting alone at a table, drinking some tea. Already someone had pissed him off, and that person now lay unconscious crumpled in a heap against the wall. He just hoped that annoying beansprout Allen wouldn't bother him today. He was in no mood to deal with him. Yesterday Yu had gotten back from a long assignment, having been gone for about a week and a half, and the first person he had to run into was Allen. He frowns at the thought of what happened...

Yesterday Morning

"YUUUU!!!!" A voice calls out to him, and he grimaces as he recognizes who it was. He continues to walk to the main office, where he knew Chief Kamui was waiting for a report of the task. "Hey hey hey Yu!!" Another annoying voice... He growls, an annoyed but comical grimace on his face. "Go away Beansprout, Rabbit..." But they continue to follow him, Allen and Lavi bombarding him with questions. He only escapes from them when he reaches Kamui's office, and they leave, waving. God he hated them...

He almost breaks the cup he was holding as he squeezes it, the memory driving him mad. He tries to calm down by thinking about something else, but for some reason he just couldn't get that annoying beansprout out of his head. Maybe it was because recently Kamui had kept putting the three together for missions, and now he was getting into his head. He hoped not...

Sunlight slowly slid across the floor, alighting on a pale face framed by even paler hair. Thick lashes fluttered back to reveal bright silver eyes, slightly dazed upon first waking. A deformed hand came up to rub his eye as Allen Walker sat up in bed, a yawn slipping out.

He climbed out of bed, made it then proceeded to get dressed. Once he was in his normal shirt-vest-tie-slacks attire Allen then exited his room, heading to the one place that was priority first thing in the morning: the cafeteria.

The young man stepped into the room, seeing that many Exorcists and Finders had already began eating. Allen walked over to the window and grinned at the man standing there. "Good Morning Jerry." Allen said with a smile. Said man smiled largely in return. "Here's my favorite boy. What can I get for you this morning sweetie?" Allen took a deep breath then proceeded to rattle off a very large list of food items. To an outsider this would be considered quite alarming but to those who knew him, it was normal for the Exorcist to be eating this much.

The chief nodded, almost aglow with happiness and immediately began working on the large order of food. As Allen waited his silver eyes scanned around to see if he could find anyone he knew.

His eyes landed on Kanda and he considered going over to join him but memories of yesterday quickly made him change his mad. It seemed he had already made the other mad as it was; no need to add fuel to the proverbial fire.

He hears the voice he was dreading more than anything, and when he looks around, sure enough Allen was there. He quickly returns to his tea, sighing in annoyance. He knew that he shouldn't be like this, after all it was the cafeteria, and everyone went here to eat. But still...Allen just annoyed him. Another voice soon pipes up. "ALLEN-KUN!!!" Lavi had arrived, and runs over to Allen, hugging him in a playful way. "Hey Jerry!!!" He says happily, before ordering something to eat, his eyes scanning the room, and find Yu. "YUUUU!!!" He runs over there, but before he could hug him, Yu reaches out, and holds him back with his arm. "Ah, don't be such a grump Yu!!!"

Yu growls, a comical annoyed look on his face. "How many times have I told you not to call me by my first name?" His eye twitches, and pulls his arm back, Lavi stumbling from the sudden loss of support. "You're such a grumpy person Yu...it's bad for your health you know!" He then walks back over to Allen, and waits for the white haired boy to sit down at table. "Idiots..." Yu grumbles, taking another drink from his tea. "They're all....idiots..."

Allen let out a small startled yelp as he was hugged from behind. He turned, watching Lavi run over to try and hug Kanda only to have the samurai hold him back with one arm. Soon Lavi walked back over to Allen, who was still waiting for his rather large order to be completed.

"You know, you really shouldn't annoy him so much; he might just get irritated enough to actually run you through with Mugen one of these days." Allen told the red-head with a small smile.

He turned away however when he heard Jerry announce that both of their orders were ready. Allen happily gathered up his food and made his way over to an empty table, deciding they had made Kanda mad enough for one day. The white-haired boy set down all his food, took a seat then began eating happily.

"Nah, I don't think he'll do that!!!" Lavi says cheerily. "He may be a total grump, but he's not that mean..." They sit down, and begin to eat, when another familiar face appears. Lenalee Lee, sister of Chief Kamui walks in, smiling when she sees Allen, Lavi, and Kanda. "Allen! Lavi! Kanda! Good morning!" She had a cup of coffee on a tray, and smiles at them. "My brother wants to talk to you Allen. I think he has a mission for you. You too Kanda!" She calls, and he raises a hand to show he heard. "What about me?" Lavi asks, smiling at Lenalee. "No, just Allen and Kanda. I'll talk to you later!!!" She waves, and leaves the cafeteria, Lavi pouting. "Awww...no fair..."

Yu, who had finished his tea, gets up from his seat, and walks over to the window to where Jerry was, and hands him the empty cup. "Are you sure you don't want something to eat Kanda?" He asks, smiling. "Yes, I'm sure." He walks away, and leaves the cafeteria, heading towards where Chief Kamui was waiting. He had a feeling that he was once again going to be paired up with Allen. That would be just his luck. He sighs, this day just had to keep getting worse didn't it?

Aleen nodded and quickly finished his food. He took the dishes to the window, bid Jerry adieu, then headed down the Komui's office. He noticed Kanda had already left and sighed, just knowing he was going to be paired with Kanda. He sighed. It's not like I try to annoy him, he'll get annoyed just by me breathing!

The white-haired boy soon arrived at the Chief's office and knocked once before entering.

By the time Allen arrived, Kanda was already in the office and waiting for Komui to tell him what he was to be doing, but of course, he had a bad feeling that he was going to be paired up with Allen. This thought was confirmed when a knock came at the door, and Chief Kamui tells him to open it. "Now then! Kanda, Allen. You two are to be going to Saint Petersburg in Russia for a mission. Several Akuma have been sighted, and they seem to keep growing in numbers. It's going to be a long trip, so be sure to pack wisely. The finders are already there, and are waiting for you to join them." He holds out two identical folders, which held more details about the mission. "You can read these on the train. Right now you need to pack, the train leaves in half an hour. Have fun!!" He waves his hand, showing that they were dismissed.

Yu clutches the folder in his fist, a grimace on his lips, but he says nothing. Instead, he turns around, and makes his way out of the office. Before he does, he glares at Allen, as if to say 'Don't mess up this time you idiot'. As the last mission they were on together had almost gotten them both killed. He then leaves the office, going to his room, but not packing anything, he had all he needed with him. Mugen on his back, his clothes on his body, and that's about it. He waits a little bit, but then heads to the exit that led to the bottom of the giant hill, and waits for the beansprout to show up. His arms were crossed over his chest, and his eyes were closed, but he was very much aware of his surroundings.

Allen sighed as he watched Kanda glare at him before leaving. the white-haired boy shoot Komui a look that asked 'why do you do this to me?' before he too exited the office. He walked to his room, stopping by Lavi's to tell the red-head where he was going. He then entered his room and started packing. He did as Komui said and packed wisely. He then grabbed his things and walked out of his room, heading toward the exit where he guessed Kanda was already waiting. He was correct as he walked up down the hill and stopped by the samurai. He looked like he was in his own world but Allen knew better. He Kanda was aware of his surroundings; he was probably aware of Allen standing there and staring at him like an idiot.

Allen shook his head and turned away.

"About time you got here beansprout. Took long enough." Yu says, not even opening his eyes. He only opens them when he turns towards the boat that led out of the tunnel, and steps in it, Bookman was in the boat already. "I've got business in town, so I offered to get you to the train." Bookman explains, and once Allen got into the boat after Yu, they take off, Yu sitting as far as possible away from Allen. He continued to have a grumpy look on his face, as he looked to the side as they drifted along the water.

Once in town, they go straight to the train, showing the conductor of the train their passes, and getting aboard, going to a car that was set specifically for the exorcists. Yu sits down by the window, his arms over his chest, the folder sitting on the bench beside him. He stares out the window, wishing this trip to be over as soon as possible.

Allen sighed as he sat down across from the irritated samurai. This mission in going to suck. He thought miserably to himself. Normally Lavi went with them and then Allen could bear Kanda's bad moods but...now he was going to be stuck with the other male for a while, without Lavi's humor and bright mood to counter Kanda's.

Allen almost sighed again but refrained. Instead he opened the folder resting on his lap and began to read about their mission in detail.

Without looking at Allen, Kanda spoke up, his voice irritated in every way possible. "And try not to screw up this time got it? Last time you almost got us all killed." He glances at Allen from the corner of his eyes, but then focuses back on the scenery that was flying past the train window. It was true. Just because Allen wanted to save everyone, he had almost killed them all. Kanda, Lavi, the finders, the person they were told to help, and even himself. When they had gotten to the hotel they were staying in at that time, someone standing outside would have thought a bomb had gone off, as Yu had yelled at him once they had stepped into the room, as well as almost beat the living crap out of him. It was scary to listen to, that was for sure.

Even Lavi had avoided going near Kanda for a few days, because it took a little time for him to cool off. Even now the thought of that mess up gave him nightmares, and made him want to wring Allen's scrawny neck. Because once they had gotten back to headquarters, Kamui had acted like nothing had happened, that it was a simple accident. Despite the number of scratches, bruises, and scrapes covering their bodies.

Allen looked up and glared at the samurai. "What was I supposed to do, let that little girl die?! And besides, I didn't ask you to come and try to save me!" Allen huffed, crossing his mismatched arms over his chest. But thinking back to it, Allen almost shuddered at the beating Kanda had given him when they got back to the hotel. He knew Kanda probably would have killed him if Lavi hadn't intervened when he did.

The white-haired boy sighed to himself and went back to reading, trying to ignore the black cloud that hung over his fellow Exorcist.

This time he turns to face Allen fully, anger flashing in his dark eyes, his teeth bared. "OUR JOB WAS TO HELP THAT OLD MAN AND WE DID!! THE LITTLE GIRL GOT INTO TROUBLE ON HER OWN, IT'S NOT UP TO YOU TO SAVE EVERY SINGLE DAMN PERSON!!! AND IF I HADN'T HELPED YOU, YOU DEFINITELY WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!!! YOU'RE SUCH AN IDIOT!!" He stands up, and gets into Allen's face, knocking the papers aside. For a moment he just glared into Allen's eyes, before huffing in an irritated way, and poking Allen in the chest hard with his finger. "But this time, don't expect me to help you, got it?!" He leaves the compartment, slamming the sliding door shut so hard that it bounced back open. He had to get away from Allen, this was just too much. What was Kamui thinking putting him with this idiot?

He storms down the hall of the train, ignoring the looks that he got from the passengers, making his way towards the back, where he opened the door and stepped out on the small platform that was out in the fresh air. The wind whips at his face and body, tugging at his long hair that was up in a ponytail. Even the cold wind could not help cool of his temper, that damn beansprout got on his nerves so badly.

Allen blinked, watching Kanda storm out. He sighed and got up to close the door gently and pick up his papers before he sat back down. He leaned his head against the window, silver eyes gazing out at the landscape speeding by. One thing bugged him: Kanda always said he hated Allen and didn't care if he got himself killed or whatever. He even said this time he wasn't going to help him if he got into trouble. So...if Kanda hates me so much, why did he save me that time?

Allen sighed and rubbed his forehead, wishing the mission could be over with so he wouldn't be stuck with the samurai any longer.

Leaning against the railing of the small platform, Yu watches as the scenery races past, sighing to himself. He had to admit it, even though every mission they had been on he had told Allen he wasn't going to help him....Yu always ended up doing just that. Either saving his butt or doing something to keep Allen from getting himself killed... "I hate him..." He mutters to himself, before standing up straight, and going back inside the train about twenty minutes later. He heads back to the cabin, because there was no other place he could go, shutting the door quietly behind him. Most likely Allen would still be awake, so he would go to the seat across from him and sit down.

He hadn't slept well the night before, and before he knew it he had drifted off to sleep, his head leaning back against the seat, a calm look on his usually irritated face. Lavi had once told Yu that he liked him much better when he was sleeping, he was so much more easy to get along with. Lavi almost lost a few teeth for that comment.

Allen heard the compartment door open and shut and he saw Kanda's reflection in the window. the white exorcist didn't look over however as the samurai sat back down silently. Allen knew better than to open his mouth when there was a chance that Kanda could still be in a bad mood. A few minuted later Allen looked over and saw that the Japanese man was fast asleep.

Allen studied his face, finding it a lot more peaceful than his awake face. He liked Kanda's sleeping face a lot more than his angry one. Allen sighed quietly and looked back out the window. The gentle motion of the train and the quiet breathing that filled the cabin was soothing and soon Allen found himself falling asleep as well, his head leaning against the window in a position that looked slightly uncomfortable.

It was about an hour and a half later when it happened. Until that point Yu had been sleeping just well, his mind blank, nothing bothering him, but then the nightmare that had been plaguing him for the last few weeks started up. In it everything was dark, and all he could feel was pain, the only sound reaching his ears were the sound of his scared breath, and the dripping of his blood. He tries to see where he was, but it was too dark. He then would see a tiny light, and he ran towards it, but for some reason he never got closer to it. He could hear laughing, it was a taunting laugh. 'Yu!!' He could hear a voice... 'Yu!!' It was calling to him. He had to find that voice. 'YU!!!' Wait...that was Allen's voice!! He turns around and around, trying to see where Allen was, but he wasn't in site. 'Allen?' He calls back. 'Yu!! Help me!!' He calls again. 'Where are you?' 'Here! I'm here!!! Help!' He begins to run again, and then a scream fills his ears, Allen needed him! 'YUUUUU!!!!!!!' Allen screams. Then he could see him. Allen was there, in front of him, blood covering his body, reaching out to Yu. But he kept moving away, Yu reached out, their fingertips mere inches away from each others. 'YUU!!!' He would put on a surge of speed, and almost grab him when...his fingers close on thin air, as Allen vanishes, screaming. "ALLEN!!! NOOOO!!!"

"NOOOOO!!!!!!!" He wakes up yelling, his hand reaching out in front of him, his breathing fast, his heart racing. Sweat was trickling across his whole body, and he was shaking. Most likely Allen would have woken up from his moaning in his sleep, to see Yu tossing and turning as he had fallen over as he slept. His hand clenches, and he closes his eyes again, trying not to shed the tears that threatened to fall.

A yell jolted Allen out of his resting and he tried to spring to his feet. Unfortunately he was still have a sleep and so his feet tripped over each other and he tumbled to the floor with a yelp. He sat up, slightly dazed and rubbing his head from where he had hit it against the seat.

Silver eyes raised up to give Kanda a confused look, taking in the sight that the other exorcist was in.

"Kanda? Are you ok?"

Yu sits up slowly, his bangs covering his eyes partly, a small frown on his lips. His hand was still clenched, his heart still racing but his breathing was becoming normal. He turns his head away, so that Allen couldn't see his face, his eyes had begun to water. "I'm fine." He mutters, wishing Allen would stop looking at him. It was nerve-wrecking, and he wanted to wipe his eyes before the tears spilled over.

Why did that dream keep coming back? And why was Allen the one in it? He glances at the white haired boy, but before Allen could notice he looks away again. Looking out the window, he could tell that he hadn't been asleep very long, and they still had quite the ride left.

Allen slowly picked himself off of the floor and returned to his seat. He gave Kanda another confused look as the other kept his face turned away and was avoiding making eye-contact. Something is wrong; he didn't yell at me like I expected him to. I wonder why he yelled. Did he have a nightmare?

Allen gazed out the window as well before sighing and flopping back to lay on the seat. He was so short he could lay across the seat fully with his legs stretched out. He stared up at the ceiling, slightly bored.

Finally Allen looks away, and Kanda reaches up to wipe the tears that had been seconds away from falling from his eyes. He hears Allen moving, and glances at the white haired boy, to see that he had lain down on the seat. Kanda smirks despite himself, the guy was so short. If Kanda wanted to lay down on the bench, he had to bend his knees or curl up, but Allen didn't have to. He looks out the window again, leaning his head against the cold glass, finally calming down from the nightmare.

For a while it remained quiet like this, until he heard a gurgling sound. He rolls his eyes, and looks over at Allen, it had to have been him, because he knew it wasn't himself. He guessed it was around lunch time at that moment, and of course Allen was hungry. He stands up, and without a word leaves the compartment, going to a small cart that held boxed lunches, each holding a sandwich, a fruit, a desert and a drink. He gets eight of them as well as a separate apple, and pays the woman the money. He walks back, and re-enters the compartment, tossing Allen the boxes, knowing how much the guy ate. He keeps the apple, and sits down, taking a bite out of it, and avoids looking at Allen.

A gurgling disturbed the quiet of the cabin and Allen placed a hand on his stomach, guessing it was lunch time. He was just about to get up and go get something to eat when Kanda stood and exited the compartment only to return shortly with eight boxed lunches. Allen blinked in surprise when they were thrown at him. He stared at Kanda for a moment in surprise before he uttered a quiet "Thank you" as he sat up and opened the first box. He began eating quietly, still slightly in shock that Kanda had actually gotten food for him.

Yu shrugs when Allen thanks him, it was no big deal. While taking another bite out of his apple, he looks at Allen as he eats, and rolls his eyes once more. He really didn't get this guy... Looking out the window once again, he was unsure what to say or do, these kind of situations often found him, regrettably, wishing that Lavi was there with them. He was surprised that Kamui hadn't sent the red-head with them, after Lavi had told Kamui what Kanda had done the night of the "accident". But to be honest, no one actually understood what went on in that crazy guy's head, everyone just went along with it.

Soon Allen had finished with the first box and started in on the second. He looked up just in time to see Kanda look away. Allen blinked, pausing in the process of chewing his food. Why had Kanda been looking at him. It was probably in disgust because of Allen's eating habit. Allen looked down at the food in his lap.

He knew he ate a lot and never gained a pound but it was because of his type of Innocence. The white-haired sighed and continued to eat, keeping his eyes on his lap.

A slight smile forms on his lips, and he leans over towards Allen's food box, snatching the sandwich, as he had finished with the apple he had been eating. He glances at Allen, and then takes a bite out of it, still smirking as he looks back out the window. He didn't know why he did that, he just did it... With the sandwich hanging from between his teeth, he grabs the folder he had yet to look through, and opens it, to see if Kamui had arranged for them to have a place to stay, because he knew that it would be late by the time they arrived in the city.

He continued to eat the sandwich as he read, knowing that Allen would be confused, and probably had a stupid look on his face right at that moment. He chuckles at the thought, but does not look up to see if he was correct.
