Karou Thiago

24

Karou is kind and gentle. He likes helping people and can be upset very easily. However, if one were to get on his bad side he would give them the cold shoulder and refuse to speak to them more than absolutly nescessary. He doesn't forgive easily and can be quite sassy when provoked or pushed too far.

Takashi walked into large publishing company that he was now going to write for, he knew it was unusual to leave his old company after publishing his first 3 books with them but he thought he would be better with a change. He walked into a large office with many people sitting at their desks, nervous he decided to get strait to the point and meet the person he would be working with from now on

"Hi everyone, i am looking for Karou Thiago, he is going to bre my editor from now on" Takashi shouted above all the noise hoping the right man would hear him. Damn why had he chosen to come during lunch when it was noisy!?

Karou was sitting at his desk, looking over a rough draft that had been handed to him that morning. He was just passing time though until the man who was supposed to be working with arrived. He had been told a few days ago that a writer was transferring to their company and Karou would be his editor. He lifted his head suddenly when one of his co-workers, a man named Hikaru poked his head through the door. "I think your writer is here." Karou nodded and the man went back to his desk. The short male stood and walked down the short hallway to where mostly everyone else worked. He stepped around people standing about and chatting, making his way to where Hikaru was leading.

"This is Karou." Hikaru said to Takashi, laying a hand on Karou's shoulder. Karou however had froze in his tracks, staring with disbelieving eyes as he found the jerk who had made fun of him at the bar was standing before him. This is not happening to me. He thought with despair.

Karou shot the man a glare before promptly turning on his heels and storming back to his desk, ignoring Hikaru's calling after him.

Takashi stared as his editor walked away from him back to his office "umm, does he normally do this? Or have I done something wrong?" Takashi asked Hikaru more than slightly confused. "I should follow him." He walked away towards where his editor had gone not even waiting for an answer from Hikaru. He knocked on the door before entering. "Hi, I'm Takashi, pleased to met you." He bowed low hoping it might make whatever he did a moment ago less sever of a problem.

Karou had to force himself not to smack the man as he followed after him. He clenched his hands into fists and glared up at Takashi, teeth gritting together as he held back the insults he wanted to hurl at him. "I know who you are and I refuse to be your editor, not after what you did to me you jerk! Now get out!" He hissed, turning away from him.

Takashi sighed, he had no idea what he had done and he didnt want to goi back to his previous company after he quit there, he had to make this right. "Karou, what have in done, do you not like my books? Do you..god I Dont know!!! What I have I done!!" Takashi could hear his voice steadily rising but he didnt care he didnt like people hating him for no reason

Karou whirled around to face the man, anger making his eyes look redder than they actually were. "Does two nights ago at Tyki's Bar ring any bells? You came over and started talking to me and after you found out I liked guys you made of me for it and embarrassed me. So excuse me for being a little cross!" He hissed.

Takashi's eyes widened, "i did what!?" he said in awe before re thinking, he was at Tyki's bar the other day and yes now he did remember seeing this man but..but he had never gone over to him, never spoken a word to the man "oii stop making excuses, i did no such thing! i remember seeing you but i never even talked to you, hell the closest i got to you was when i was ordering more drinks, YOU REALISE THAT IS A SERIOUS ACCUSATION TO MAKE OF ME!!" He could hear his voice rising but this, this was too far, to make such an accusation, the nerve! "YOU JUST WANT A BLOODY REASON NOT TO BE MY EDITOR DONT YOU!? DONT YOU!!!! DAMN IT IF YOU HATE MY WORK SO MUCH JUST SAY IT TO MY FACE YOU WHIMP!!" Takashi yelled at his would be editor, damn he hated people who didnt tell him what they really thought, he would rather be hurt than lied to, hurt he could get over..slowly.

Karou flinched back slightly. He hated yelling, has hated it ever since his father had become a drunk and that was all he ever did was yell at his son. Karou could feel tears gathering in his eyes, his knee-jerk reaction to being yelled at and he pushed past Takashi, not wanting the other man to see him cry. He hurried down the hall and into the bathroom, glad to see it was empty. He stared at himself in the mirror. He's right. I am a wimp. He thought bitterly to himself.

Takashi ran after the man, he wasn't going to let the idiot get away with it that easily! He easily kept pace staying a few steps behind when suddenly the man turned into the bathroom. Takashi nearly bumped into him at the unexpected motion but was ignored as his editor went into the room. He openers the door but remained stock still in the entrance watching as the man by the sinks let the tears roll down his cheeks. Takashi didnt understand why but he knew it was his fault. He slowly walked over, he gently lay a hand on the mans shoulder saying softly, "sorry, I didnt mean to go that far, you are probably right and I'm wrong," takashi continued "but, please, if you can, would you be my editor, I Dont care how much you critise me or hate me as long as the book sells, please." He whispered, he still didnt believe the man but he needed an editor and he was the only one avalible at the moment.

Karou flinched away when he felt a hand upon his shoulder. He looked up at the blurry shape of Takashi and furiously rubbed at the tears in his eyes, berating himself for letting the other male see him cry. He turned away from him, wishing that he could just go home and forget about all of this. "For the record, when I read your books, I rather enjoyed them." He said in a quiet voice.

"And you said the last time you remember seeing me is when you were ordering more drinks. Think about that for a second. And, if I didn't want to be your editor, don't you think I would have let you know before you came all the way here? I'll give another chance, but just one." He said and turned, slipping around Takashi and exiting the bathroom.

He sighed, rubbing a hand against his eyes as he slowly made his way back to his desk.

Takashi tilted his head to the side trying to remember, remember anything from that night, he focused as hard as he could straining his brain to its limits but nothing was forthcoming except for a headache that was beginning to pound upon the inside of his skull, trying to break him. He left the bathroom rubbing his temples to try to relieve the strain, it didn't help.

Takashi figured that Karou probably didn't want to talk to him again at the moment so he walked back into the editing department and found Hikaru who was busy typing something up on his computer, "excuse me," Takashi said gently tapping Hikaru on the shoulder to get his attention, the man spun his chair round smiling,

"ohh its you again, sorted everything out?"

"err yes but i dont think i should disturb him again, i should probably let him be, but i have some drafts i want to go over with him so umm...would it be ok if you were to ask him to give me a call later or drop by my house as soon as he can."

"ohh yes sure, ill tell him when i finish this." Hikaru smiled

"yer about that, you might want to leave it an hour, let him calm down, he is still somewhat mad, sorry. I am going to visit the boss then ill head home."

"ok then thanks for the warning, ill leave him be!"

"thanks Hikaru i owe you one!" Takashi called waving over his shoulder as he left. His headache was getting worse and he really wanted to head out and sleep for a couple of hours.

Karou sighed as he reached his desk and sat down, resting his head on the surface. He closed his eyes, feeling tired and the day wasn't even over yet. His day had been going so well and then that guy had to show up and bring the thing he was trying to forget back into focus. He been doing a good job pushing that horrible night to the back of his mind but it came back as soon as she laid eyes on Takashi.

He groaned, wondering what he was going to do. The guy honestly didn't seem to remember what he did and Karou wasn't about to tell him. He wanted to give the guy the benefit of the doubt but...Karou had been made a fool of before and he was loath to be put through that again. He sighed and glanced at the time, realizing that it was lunch time. Karou stood and walked into the staff room where people normally ate if they brought their lunch.

He grabbed his lunch box out of the fridge and sat down by Hikaru. "Hey, that guy, Takashi? He said that he had some drafts for you to go over so he said you could either call him or drop by his house." Karou sighed. Well, he definitely wasn't going to the mans house so calling would have to do. "I'll give him a call later." He mumbled, taking a bite out of his salad. Hikaru nodded, gazing at his friend with a slightly worried look. "So, whats your problem with him? You looked like you wanted to punch the guy in the face when you first saw him."[/color

Karou sighed, looking down at the table. "You know that guy I told you about? The one who made a fool out of me at Tyki's bar? Well, that was him." Hikaru looked shocked. "You mean that jerk that made fun of you for being gay is your new writer?!" The red-head exclaimed, to which Karou nodded. "Yeah, but he doesn't seem to remember anything. But now that I think of, he was pretty drunk at the time." The short male said with a snort.

Hikaru still wore a shocked expression. "So, what are you going to do?" Karou sighed. "I told him I would give him a chance." Hikaru stared at his friend. "He's not gonna like this, is he?" A small smile curled Karou's lips and he glanced at his friend. "Maybe..." Hikaru just laughed and shook his head. "Go easy on the guy, okay?" Karou giggled. "I make no promises." He said as he continued to eat.

Takashi walked into the lift still trying to desifer what he had said to his new editor, sighing he pushed the button for the top floor and waited as the lifted jolted upwards. Takashi admitted the man was cute and all he would be a catch fr any girl but for the man to be gay? Takashi thought, he just really didnt look it but then you cant always he thought, thinking of one of his friends who looked the straitest if the strait and yet visited gay bars every other night. The lift pinged jolting Takashi back t reality.

He walked out the lift and into the corridor, it was full of big glass offices, apparently for the heads of departments when they weren't in their department yelling at any rate, most of the room were empty but Takashi was fairly sure which on he wanted anyway. He walked down the hall to a large office right at the end. knocking he gently pushed the door open

"excuse me, Good afternoon. My name is Takashi Fumihiro, i am the new writer here." The man behind the desk was slim with angular features and rectangular glasses which he pushed up onto his nose as he looked up at Takafumi.

"arh Takafumi, hello. I was wondering when you would arrive." The man said "my name is Rei, Rei Hanachi" Rei stood offering his hand to Takafumi, who shook firmly. "so i hear you are working with Karou, he is a good worker, i am sure you'll like him." Takashi nodded trying to hide his discomfort.

"yes, i look forward to working with him and your company in the future." he said awkwardly desperate to get out of te room and back home again, into the peace and quite so he could think over his problems silently.

After many minutes of conversation during which Takashi's conscience hid in the inner depths of his head while his brain was left to function on auto pilot, Rei finally ended the talk and Takashi was excused.

He walked out the office sighing, that had taken far longer than he had expected and his headache was now pounding. He trod lightly trying not to create too much impact as he walked. He made it outside into the cool fresh air, it helped a little breathing in the air, but the noise around him compensated for the difference making his head burn. He stepped int his car trying to focus properly so as not to crash but eventually he made it home. Fumbling with the keys he unlocked the door and stumbled inside where he grabbed a couple of painkillers and collapsed onto the sofa...what a day, and it was only half way through!

The rest of the day passed slowly and Karou was glad when he was able to go home. He clocked out and exited the building, heading to his car. He got in, started the engine, then made his way home. He soon reached his one-bedroom apartment and got out and headed inside.

He locked the door behind him and kicked of his shoes by the entrance. He hung his jacket on the coat-rack by the door before he walked to the kitchen to make himself something to eat. Not really feeling up to making anything that required a lot of work he just settled for a grilled cheese sandwich.

After he was done eating he went to go take a shower. He sighed, closing his eyes as he stood under the stream of warm water. What a tiring day.

Takashi's sleep was punctuated with strange beasts that came down from the dark skies, torturing him with their words before finally chewing off his arms so he could never write again and leaving him a wreck to sit on this god forsaken planet and die slowly without the thing he needed the ability to write.

He woke with a start sweat dripping down him and his heart beating as if he had run a marathon, he stood but his legs collapsed from under him and he fell to the floor trying to keep his emotions in check.

Finally his heart slowed and he stood slowly. He grabbed a glass of water, his hands shaking violently as he did, he splashed his face with the cold water trying to shock himself back to normality.

He leaned on the sink, as he calmed his breathing back down again to a steady rate.

After Karou finished with his shower he got dressed, ate then climbed into bed. It felt like he hadn't been asleep for very long when the ringing of a phone sounded through the small space. Karou jolted slightly, gasping as his eyes shot open. He yawned, sitting and and fumbling for his vibrating phone. "Hello?" He mumbled, still half-asleep.

"Hello, son." Karou jerked fully awake, eyes going wide and face going pale as he recognized the voice. "YOU! H-How..How did you get m-my number." He stammered, trying not to shake as the horrible memories swam to the surface.

"I told you you couldn't run from me forever. Come home." Karou took a deep breath. "That hell-hole is not my home and I am never going back!" He said. He heard a chuckle. "We'll see."

Karou sat there for a moment in shock, brain too frozen to order his limbs to move. How...How did he find me?! I-I switched phones, didn't leave a trace behind to follow so how... He began to tremble and he slowly set the phone down, knowing he was not going to be able to sleep for the rest of the night.

Takashi slowly backed away from the sink collapsing back into a chair. He looked at the time: five past four, it was far too early to think about making dinner but he needed something to take his mind off things, he needed to write to remind himself he could. Standing he walked out the kitchen and into his study, if you could call it a study, the entire room was scattered with papers, notes jotted over all of them and ideas scrawled randomly over the paper. He sat at the small desk at the far end of the room and picking up a small lighter he held the flame to a candle lighting the wax that was dripping down its sides, overflowing onto the polished mahogany desk. He could turn the lights on but he found the flickering of the flame and the pungent smell helped him to think, to write, to be inspired.

Taking one of the pieces of paper he quickly scanned the notes and began to wrote of a world with demons who preyed upon humans, shape shifting and becoming one of them, a world where no one trusted and therefore no one loved, children were born through test tubes of donations from willing volunteers whom most of the time where not so willing. Such were the works of Takashi, his stories involved characters devoid of love and his worlds were dying plagued with the disease of knowledge and arrogance. His stories never ended well, such was the way of his writing. If asked truthfully it would be known that the worlds in Takashi's books were as he saw the real world, but he never answered such questions with truth.
