"Thank you, please come again anytime." Melvin smiled at the costumer as he handed the woman a bag filled with books and greeted the next person in line. His smiling face was masking his pure irritation. No matter how many times he told his uncle, Malcolm, to hire someone else to help around the shop the older man wouldn't give in, saying that hiring an outsider would only bring problems. But it was a big shop and believe it or not there were a lot of people who loved to read mystery novels. It was becoming harder and harder for him to take care of everything alone. Being the only family member left wasn't helping at all, the man trusted no one; thus convincing him to hire some else to help around was going to be impossible.

Mel lost his parents at a very young age and since then he was raised by his uncle Malcolm. He studied English Literature and after graduating from college started working at his uncle bookstore while writing children books on the side. It was his dream to become a famous mystery writer; a best seller maybe. But the publishing company wouldn't accept his stories. For some reason they'd only accept books he written for children.

"Be careful on your way home, boy." His uncle said as he waved goodbye. "See you tomorrow uncle." Melvin waved goodbye back as he exited the bookshop and made his way home. The bookshop was a two floor building and his uncle lived on the second floor. Melvin lived in a small apartment a couple of blocks away.

As he made his way home, he pulled his jacket closer, it was early autumn and the wind started to get very cold. As he walked, deep in thoughts, he was unable to sense a person approaching him from behind. The stranger covered his mouth preventing him from making any sound and forcefully dragged him into a dark alley. A second man pulled a pocket knife out and leaned closer to Mel's face. "Now kitty, this wont hurt...much." The unknown man said with a chuckle while the other tightened his hold on him, preventing Mel from running away or struggle.

Mel's eyes widened, he couldn't believe this was happening to him. He could just shift into a fly and escape but it was against the rules and if these men told the authority about his shifting he would be put to death anyways. What should I do? Melvin thought desperately as the man in front of him placed the sharp knife against his cheek. He closed his eyes as the cold metal making shiver in fear.

Character Biography

Name: Christopher Temrou

Age: 19

Species: Werewolf

Position: Uke

Hair/eye color: eyes-ice, hair-barley

Likes: justice, freedom, men without pants on, rallying

Dislikes: restrictions, bullies, politics, homophobic people

Background: Christopher has spent almost his entire life fighting the separation between werewolves and shape-shifters. He knows that the shape-shifters aren't allowed to do anything and works to give them the freedoms he thinks they deserve. He became a werewolf at age 6 when one bit him, but he's used it as an opportunity to induce sympathy when he rallies. He's worked his way up into a major role among the lobbyists and has many people under him, who he is free to control, but only to the point to which they're comfortable.

"Hey, leave him be," Christopher said, plodding up the alley to the attacker and attacked. The other man paused, looking up and immediately stepping away from the other man towards Christopher. The man with the knife put the blade away and protectively encircled his arms around Christopher's shoulders. "Good boy." he said. "That's right, don't hurt the poor bystander." Christopher shifted his gaze to said poor bystander. "What's your name?" He held out a hand for shaking. "I'm Christopher."

Melvin blinked confused at what was happening. A minute he was sure he was a goner, the next a stranger (very handsome indeed) came out of nowhere and saved him. He accepted the man's hand and nodded gratefully. "I'm, I'm Melvin. Thank you" He said and glared at the man who had almost cut his throat. "Is this man your friend?"

Christopher shot a glance at the man attached to him. "Nice to meet you, Melvin. Yes, of sorts. I've earned some sort of respect from him." The attacker, who's name was Jack, protectively nibbled on Chris' earlobe. "Not now, you're due for treatment in a couple of hours," he waved him off. "And besides, I feel like we owe this nice young man an explanation and a cup of something hot to drink." Christopher looked up to Melvin. "May I persuade you to let me buy you a cup of tea?"

Melvin's frown only deepened. The man had saved him yes, but if he hanged around these kind of men, how much could he trust him? Not only that, what did he mean by treatment? He wanted to decline and just go home and try to write, his deadline was coming up. But what it insulted his "savior" and they attacked him again? He had to risk it. "Alright." He said nodding. "Lead the way." He added and internally prayed this was not a trap.

Christopher smiled warmly. "Fantastic!" He whistled once, sharply, and within seconds a red convertible zoomed around the corner. The driver tipped his head at Chris and co. before getting out and opening the door. Christopher ushered his company into the automobile and casually told the driver the destination, "Take us to that tea-house on ninth, if you will Simon." He looked over to Melvin and carefully explained, "I do a lot of business, and I get respect from a lot of people. One of them is Jack here, one of them is the driver. But don't worry, it's not illegal or anything." He sat back, "I'm one of the lead members trying to end the hatred between our two races. Oh, I didn't tell you? I'm a werewolf."

Melvin's eyes widened as big as two eggs. This man was a wolf? Not only that, but a powerful one? What in the world has he gotten himself into?! Truth to be told, he himself didn't have anything against werewolves, living as normal human been, he'd never come across one to tell. It was kind of bad he could tell what he was just by his scent, which was something Melvin couldn't do. Yet he couldn't fully trust Chris, not even with that warm inviting smile. "Then why did Jack attack me?" He asked, the frown returning.

Chris paused, and let the smile vanish for just a moment. "J-jack was..." he swallowed. "Jack can be mislead sometimes. It takes a ... a firm hand to control him." He cleared his throat. "Jack is what one might call 'wild'. His parents let him roam, and he got used to it. He..." Chris smiled again. "He just needs to be looked after, that's all. And I'm what you might call his supervisor, or one of them." He put an apologetic look on his face. "Sorry I wasn't watching him closely enough..."

Melvin nodded accepting the man's explanation, for now anyways. "Alright, I believe you." He then looked outside from the his window and a thought popped into his mind. "You mean there are other's like you that don't hate shape-shifters?" He asked and thought what would his uncle, and only family left, would think of this. The old man have a heart-attack that's for sure.

Christopher smiled proudly. "Yes, there actually are. It doesn't happen often, but sometimes we look past our differences. Mainly it's the people who like peace and justice over hate." The limo stopped outside a quiet-looking tea shop, and Chris got out to open the door for his guests. "We rally with you, because honestly, you guys don't have a ton of rights. You're given a lot of hatred because of the way you were born." Chris frowned. "That's wrong. Anyways, welcome to the Lotus Flower Tea Shop."

Mel was going to say something but whatever he was about to say was cut at the sight of the establishment. It was a place he'd never been before. It was quite but the aura was a bit intriguing. They were lead to a table and after they were sit down was he able to speak. "Hmm won't it be bad for you, to be seen with someone like me?" If it was true that he really fought for equal rights for their species, he was really touched by it. Though he doubt it the laws would change.

Chris shook his head, "Quite the contrary. My objective isn't to privately do fair business with you guys, it's to show that I respect you as equal." He paused to look over the menu. "What do you think looks good? I don't know about you but I feel like something sweet..." he flipped the page to the dessert menu, scanning for something to catch his eye.

Not for the first time that night had the man left Mel speechless and blinking confused. This was a very strange night indeed. But the sounds of eating something sweet did grab his attention. Mel was a bit of a sweet-tooth, it was still a wonder to him how he didn't end up at the dentist at all. "Hmm." Mel mused as he scanned the list of not so cheap delicious treats. He knew Chris was paying, as a way to apologize for the early attack, but Mel just couldn't just ask for something expensive. It didn't feel right to him. "I think the apple pie sounds good." He said choosing the least expensive dessert when he really was longing for the white chocolate cheese-cake. The combination made his mouth watery!

"Fruit, huh? I was leaning towards that white-chocolate cheesecake myself." A waiter arrived and asked in a high-pitched, French voice, "Vat vill eet be vor our guests dees aaafternoon?" Chris nodded at him and requested a large iced tea and a slice of the cheesecake he'd been talking about earlier. He looked across the table expectantly to Mel. "And for you?" the annoying waiter questioned.
