He saw it there and could already tell it was the fake. He remembered it the day he had it made. same weight, and cut to perfection. that's the trouble with glass though. Once you have a real good look at it you know it's fake. Which isn't something you can do in a hurry. He smiled like the devil. Gears turning in his mind. He closed the door and noticed the butler.

"Where's the restroom?" he asked annoyed. "I'd rather not find the nearest fireplace to pee in. That's just rude."

He'd follow the butler for awhile. Taking his restroom break and washing up and then lead back to the other two.

"Where on earth did you go?" Desmond frowned at him.

"Bathroom......Eventually, I had no idea where it was. To many doors."Isaac sighed. "You two seem cozy. Shall I leave the two of you alone?"

He smiled at Isaac, "Take a seat, lunch will be served shortly... and as far as i'm aware, you weren't interrupting anything of importance" He smiled wolfishly at the attorney knowing full well that the bathroom was the last place he visited, not the first.

Isaac was curious on his game so he sat down.

"Actually....." He got up went to find the bathroom as well.

"I hate to admit this but my friend was right about you. What do you propose we do about this?"

Lunch arrived whilst Desmond was absent; a fresh tossed salad with a zingy dressing. He daintily stabbed at his food with his fork and took a mouthful before replying to Isaac. The man had been where Perry thought he had been, and he'd produced his "trump" card, the sapphire... except it was a glass replica. Perry knew that it was a replica the minute he'd touched it, but he'd stolen it anyway, enjoying the challenge of the theft rather than the object he was stealing.

"It's glass" he said calmly, looking Isaac directly in the eye. "In fact, it's a perfect copy of the one that got stolen, I should know, It was made especially for me" he said with a smirk, "A present from the institute for throwing ridiculous sums of money in their direction.." he chewed thoughtfully, "If I recall correctly, it's one of two that were made..." He was calm, in fact as soon as he'd known about the replica being made, he'd requested another one; he was prepared for this particular scenario.

He smiled.

"One of one. If they made that for you. Why would they make two? You should have made another extra one if you were going to lie to me. To give to another member at the party, and still claim your two out of two story. Then I'd have no choice but to believe you, but from your vacant expression I doubt that is what you did. You also left early if I recall. A replica is always given a big stick among the rich. Like an award. After all. When is the real last time one of them said thank you to you?"

Perry licked his lips, and obviously sexual gesture, "One of two" he reiterated. "I had that one made when I heard they were making a replica. I thought it was a grand idea to have one made, after all, if someone else could have one, then I could have one too. As for the rich, I didn't give them the money, and neither did they donate any of their own; the replica was given to me by those at the Institute who discovered the Sapphire. Your assertions indicate to me that the Police were the ones that asked for the original replica to be made... What need could the police possibly have for a replica gem? Hmmmm?" If the attorney wanted to play hardball with him, he'd just play hard ball back.

"......." he glared a moment. "That's impossible for you to come by this information. The only thing you're doing by lying is making yourself seem more suspicious." he leaned back and tried to review the evidence. "Which lie is it? Did they offer you one or did you ask for one?" he grinned watching him. "There's one thing you don't do against an attorney and that's lie my dear." his voice was dangerous.

Perry took a sip of his drink, it was something cold and fruity. "Nothing is impossible, given the right circumstances. Everything has it's price, and that includes information, though lucky for me, I didn't actually have to pay for that bit of information, I was lucky enough to overhear a conversation between two lab techs..." he winked at Isaac. Alfred arrived at that moment, "Mail, Sir" he said, holding out the tray that had a rather large looking envelope resting on it. Perry picked up the letter opener and swiftly decanted the contents out onto the tray. His face lit up with a smile, "Ah yes, it's finally arrived..." he pushed the tray towards Isaac, the piece of paper from the envelope clearly visible. "I think you'll find that this is a certificate of authenticity, stating that what I have in my possession is a legitimate replica... did the police get one for theirs?" he asked with a smirk.

He smiled like the devil and looked up.

"Tricky thing replicas. They're marked.....But the one in the case was not or it would be to obvious a replica." He put the paper down. "You see my evidence to counter your scheme is simple. You have an unmarked one. With a piece of paper you have now clarified the information that it would have indeed have been marked or the paper would be useless. Which means you have a marked gem in your possession as well. Try not to take me for a fool."

Perry resisted the urge to pinch the bridge of his nose... the man was certainly persistent! "I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to these sorts of things Mr Scott. The replica is marked, but not with something so tacky as to mar the outside of it. I'd show you out here, except it's not actually dark enough to see it's full effect, but a jewelry magnifier will do nicely. However, if you could be so patient as to allow me to finish my lunch, and perhaps wait for Mr Desmond to return so that he can finish his..." to emphasise his point, he lifted another forkful of food to his mouth and chewed slowly, his green eyes glittering with amusement.

Desmond had been listening around the corner. So his friend figured something out. Never the less he knew how very difficult Isaac could be. He wasn't called the Shark for nothing. He had 'blood' or in this case evidence. Desmond pinched the bridge of his nose. At this rate he could see a very easy outcome one that would set them back. They didn't have a warent. All Mr. Richardson had to do was get 'upset' or 'angry' and them and force them to leave, and nothing would be done. Nothing would be solved. Desmond pushed off the corner wall and walked in.

"Isaac something has come up and I need a favor."

Isaac looked over and stood up. There were times that he couldn't read his friend, because he never knew his friend could be a devil.

"What?" Isaac asked.

"It's about that taxi driver...."

"What do you need?" Isaac asked quickly.

it was apparent Isaac would drop anything and everything for Desmond. But why?

"I get the feeling he will keep coming back and I can't concentrate at all.....I need a restraining order at least until I can figure out what to do."

"What? Now?" Isaac asked.

"Please." He gave issac his best pout.

A shiver ran through the blonde and he ran off to get papers in order.

"That settles that......I apologize for my friend's behavior." Crafty devil. "Can we put it behind us?"

Perry settled back in his chair, carefully watching the exchange between the two friends once more. They were a puzzle to him, and one that he wouldn't actually mind solving, however, he had other concerns on his mind. The attorney had come dangerously close to disrupting him, and no doubt the two of them would be sharing information with each other. He knew that what Desmond was proposing was really a trap set for him, one he could easily manipulate, but a trap nonetheless.

"Apology accepted" he said, his fingers steepled in front of him. "Though your friend seems quite persistent in matters that shouldn't concern him, I take it he doesn't get out much?"

Desmond gafawed a bit.

"He gets out but not because he wants to. He learns things and that's how he keeps cash in his wallet. I think if he had his way and had all the money in the world he'd be a hermit. He has sociopathic tendencies so please forgive him. It may be a metal disorder because of how he grew up and what he saw. Again he climbed the ladder to were he is the hard way. Even I haven't figured him out completely. Though if he gets under your skin too much just flatter him to high heaven and he'll forget what he was on about." Desmond laughed being friendly with the man and drinking his drink as well as eating.

Perry filed that bit of information about Isaac away in the back of his brain, when the two gentleman were gone he'd have to have a serious think about what he was going to do with them and the rest of the meal passed with congenial small talk. AS the butler came to clear away the plates, Perry decided that now was the time to broach the subject with Desmond. "I've had a bit of a think, and to be honest your friend... puts me off slightly, so I may have to politely decline your invitation to host a party for the time being..." he smiled a genuine smile, "However, do feel free to drop past any time you like, I'm more than willing to be helpful, and I just may decide to host your party after all"

"Ah...I was worried that would happen. I'm very sorry. If you ever have an trouble with the thief or are worried."

He handed him a card. Yes he was an Interpol agent, it stated that on the card but it also had his number. He saw he was being wishy washy. Which he thought might be a good thing.

"Maybe we can do laps sometime. I haven't done that in awhile. No one to race against after all." Which meant that Isaac didn't race against him or was competitive with Desmond. Where Desmond has a competitive streak.

Perry took the card, studying it for a brief moment before placing it on the table in front of him. He stood slowly, "Allow me to see you off Mr Desmond, I can assure you that I shall contact you immediately should I have any concerns at all... and of course, If you need anything from me, please, do not hesitate." He walked around to were Desmond was and offered his hand, "I'm sure you will think of a way to convince me to hold your little party for you" he said with a grin, "but be warned Mr Desmond, I do like to swim... naked"

He blushed a bit and looked off.

"If those are the rules to a friendly competition I can't say no after all." He looked back relaxing.

He shook his hand and followed him out.

"I look forward to it." He smiled.

Perry raised an eyebrow in response, it appeared that the Chief Inspector didn't have a problem with male nudity which seemingly opened up other possibilities. "I'm terribly sorry to have taken up so much of your time Chief Inspector, and I do sincerely hope that we can meet again under... less suspicious circumstances."

He waved the officer off and waited until the car was gone from view before turning and hurrying inside. He pressed the button to the intercom, "Alfred, meet me in the Trophy Room please" and quickly made his own way to the room in question. It seemed like he had been careless, and the nosey attorney thought that he was onto something. Before long he had three identical stones lined up, of which only two of them were replicas. The real thing had been a moment of opportunity and stroke of sheer luck, but he'd stolen it right from underneath the attorney's nose, which then lead to the question of just exactly why was the worlds largest sapphire in the possession of one particular attorney.

Perry licked his lips, perhaps it was the thought of the two men, so unlike each other, yet, so much alike.. or perhaps it was the culmination of a job done well, either way he felt aroused. "Alfred, go find me one of those nice ladies like you usually do, and have her... meet me in the pool." He grinned wolfishly and licked his lips once more. First he would dispose of the original and the police replica in the usual fashion, leaving only HIS replica on display as intended (he hadn't lied about any of THOSE details) and then, well, then he'd go and have himself some fun.

Isaac eventually got the paper work done and got the signatures he needed from all the parties involved and then realized something was missing.

"Son of a...."

He sighed and tried to think. Only to get a call from Desmond.

"So any leads?" Des asked.

"Nope,"

"Really? You were up in his face though,"

"And you ruined it,"

"He would have kicked us out with the lashing you gave him,"

"Yes, well now my trail is dead cold." Isaac hung up on him.

Isaac couldn't tell Desmond about the switch. That he himself had stolen it. It was an ace he planed to bait the damn billionaire with, and now that damn prat of a rich boy had it. Isaac swiped his arm across his desk knocking everything off in a fit of rage. He put his head down trying to calm himself.

Now he would just have to let them all think that over dramatic thief did what he did.

.............

Desmond on the other hand kept a tight hold around the museums putting agents were he thought they were needed. This was almost as bad as the 'statue thief' and he wondered if this too would go unsolved. He could hear his wife throwing a fit about everything and put in his headphones and listened to his phone which thankfully had smooth jazz music. He closed his eyes suddenly having the desire to smoke or have coffee. Maybe both. A dip in a pool would be great. That lovely idea was slapped right out of him. He stared wide eyed at his wife that glared down at him from his seat. He turned his phone off to hear her finally.

"What the hell Des? You're not bringing money in and now the damn taxi service isn't letting me use them because of you. Did you even pick up groceries?!"

No...."

"Did you pick up 'anything'?!"

"can you stop yelling for a bit?" he asked.

"You think with your job you could make a better salary!"

"I do.....Except we're in so much dept because of your online shopping." he looked off only to get slapped again.

"My online shopping? What about you're whore obsession and your bar tab?!"

"What whore obsession? Cause sweetheart if you mean yourself then yes, and your trouble with online shopping. Maybe I'll just hide the fucking router." he said sarcastically.

There was dead silence, and he looked up at what he felt were murderous eyes. Luckily he was sitting down because he felt his legs buckle right then and there.

"I love you?" he asked.

With that she started to storm out.

"I'm going to my mother's for a bit!"

"......Oh god not her......" he got up. "Hey! Want to go to the jewelry store?......Please?"

Desmond never watched the movie 'the devil wears prada' but felt that his stepmother could be the leading devil. He didn't even know what prada was for that matter.

He then heard the door slam.

"Sometimes when the bad guys shoot at me.....I often wonder if the crueler joke is when they miss." His head hit the desk.

He took of week. Cleaning everything. He opened a dust filled bedroom. He stared at the dolls and everything for a moment. he could hear laughter. For a second he felt elated and then completely sick to his stomach. He closed the door quietly as if worried to wake the dead. He finally called Isaac.

"Y'ello,"

"I'm terrible with money,"

"No, your wife is,"

"I need help,"

"Um......Your voice is cracking.....Des?"

"I opened her room without thinking,"

"What, you and your wife sleep in differnt rooms now?"

"I meant......'Her' room,"

"Des.....Leave your wife,"

"How can I?"

"I can get papers,"

"that's not what I mean!"

"......You can't hold yourself responsible. Bad people will always be after you, and sometimes they are crazy enough to go after people you love instead. If you're that beat up over it why do you still stay with your wife?"

".....I feel I can protect her better this way.....Besides the sex is great,"

"How much of that are you getting these days?"

"We go on holiday trips,"

"Most of the time seperatly. You know this is how she plays you like a yo-yo. Sleeps around until you get so mad you start packing and then you get the best sex in the world, or so you think because you're not getting any for weeks sometimes months. Desmond I'm serious....Get out and meet people. She's sleeping around why don't you go sleep around,"

"Then what? A scandal? Blackmail?"

"Blackmailers wouldn't touch you with a pole......You're piss poor half the time. Blackmailers are smarter than that," Isaac cringed after he said it. He let that rock slip away from him. So much for being a smart blackmailer.

"I can't cheat on my wife,"

"Then get some more friends, or take me out." Isaac threw in there.

"New friends,"

".....I hate spending time with you too asshole," Isaac was kinda pissed off now.

"I know, you like staying at home,"

".......Wha- DESMOND!"

"I've got to let you go I think I have to call someone,"

"WAIT A SECOND! DES-" Isaac could hear the dial tone. ".........You've got to be shitting me...." he threw his phone jealous of whoever got to spend time with Desmond. It infuriated him.

Desmond got on his computer and looked up unlisted numbers and called to see if he could swim with a certain rich billionaire. He had somehow convinced himself it was for the case, for money, and to get his wife back.

The hot water pelting from the shower head felt good on tired muscles. He'd enjoyed the "lady" that Alfred had procured from him, and after he'd paid her and sent her on her way, he started swimming laps in the pool again. He found the monotony helped calm his mind or at least helped to think things through. The two gentlemen, Isaac and Desmond had piqued his interest in a big way; they were interesting and he liked interesting things. He placed both hands against the shower wall and leaned against it, the water beating against his back, and he let out a sigh. Was life really that boring? He had squillions of dollars and yet nothing to do. He wasn't interested in the pasttimes of the rich, polo playing and the like, he wanted to go out and have fun. He reached over and shut the water off and just stood there, letting it drip from his body. Fun was paintballing, go-karting, truth be told, he was just a big frat-boy...

Alfred was there with his towel, which he took without really thinking about it, after all, Alfred was always there when he needed him.

He wrapped the towel around his waist and walked out to what he liked to call his "office" - just a small set up, but it did have the latest and greatest computer, for what he liked to call his "research" - finding out the next best thing to steal and working out how to steal it. Stealing didn't -really- get him off; he'd whacked off at one heist just for the sheer hell of it, something different even, but even with the DNA they still hadn't found him... well, not arrested him at any rate. He was really a philanthropist at heart, throwing money at the sciences especially, those bright-eyed kids with their great ideas, but all they needed was someone to back them, so he did, and the results had been rather rewarding.

Alfred appeared with a beverage. A glass of his favourite scotch. The ice tinkled against the glass as he picked it up. "That will be all for now Alfred, I'll call you when I need you." Alfred bowed, "Very good Sir" and let the room. Perry took a sip and smiled, the scotch was damn good. As he put the glass down on the desk, he opened one of the draws - inside was his cellphone and a certain Chief Inspectors card. The smile became a grin. Perhaps he'd give the man a call after all...

There was a soothing ringing noise. Alfred picked up the phone.

"Richardson residence, Alfred speaking,"

"May I speak with Perry?"

"Who may I say is calling please?"

"Uh....Desmond Scott....We talked a few days ago. Maybe a week go,"

"Ah yes, I'll check to see if the master is in. Please hold." With that Alfred went to Perry and cleared his throat to grab his attention without being rude. "Mr. Scott is on the phone for you sir.....Are you in?" He kept his hand over the phone so he couldn't be heard.

Perry looked at the cellphone in his hand. The word "busy" flashed on the screen. He tutted to himself for a moment and then hung up and put the phone back in the drawer. He looked up at the sound of soft knocking the door, and Alfred was there with the phone in his hand.. "Mr. Scott is on the phone for you sir.....Are you in?" Perry couldn't stop himself from smiling and nodded vigorously, "Yes, yes Alfred, just give me the damn phone!"

He took the phone from Alfred, shooing the butler out the door with the other hand. "Hello?"

Desmond rubbed the back of his neck hearing him.

"Sorry if I'm bothering you. I thought I'd take you up on that offer. I need to get out of the house. Though if you're busy or would rather not it's fine." even if Perry was new money Desmond still handled his conversation with care, but then again he never considered himself on par with the man. Not yet anyway.

He looked around his room and eyed a backpack. If he said yes he knew he'd have to pack for a bit.

Perry couldn't help himself. A smile split his face from ear to ear. "You're not bothering me at all. Is everything alright?" he asked in genuine concern, "You're more than welcome to come and stay here if you need to... I have like eleventy billion rooms, we don't even have to see each other if you don't want to..."

Perry decided then and there, that he wouldn't mind a bit of company if it came down to that.. the Chief Inspector seemed a genuine sort of person, unlike the rest of high society that he was forced to mingle with.

He laughed a bit.

"maybe one night. I wouldn't want the press figuring something out and giving you a hard time." he replied.

He got up and started packing.

"You don't want to hear about 'old men's troubles'. Don't worry about it." truth be told he'd rather talk about such things face to face. He was old fashioned for his age. Probably raised by grandparents or on his own.

"May I come over now?"

He felt more at ease with how Perry handled the situation. He didn't act snobbish or demeaning. It reminded him of the agents under him who would go the extra mile to get work done to make things easier for everyone. Perry would become 'one of the guys' in no time at this rate.
