I think it's because of the first impression --> the first thing you see is how someone looks..and usually if you don't like how someone looks, you don't want to meet them..that's why people are so obsseded with their looks..

The general trend I have noticed is that the Uke is always hobbit short, has large eyes like a slow loris and generally defies age so they look like they are still in highschool.

 

I assume, since the Yaoi genre is enjoyed by a large female audience the characters were tailored to resemble a traditional heterosexual pairing. The male that is the 'ukeru' has feminine, beautiful features with a small slim frame. The Seme is a complete polar opposite with wide set shoulders, a lot of height on him, slim eyes and a look that could kill.

 

Males have always been viewed as being strong, rough, handy and masculine. When it comes to gay romance pairings I assume it is a bit difficult for a manga audience to understand the romance between two masculine characters than if they were different and meshed together like missing pieces of each other. That being said there have been a few Yaoi Animes with pairings of masculine looking men but I believe there are very few.

 

I focused a lot on appearance however, the personality is somewhat associated to how the character looks and the Uke is usually the more caring and emotional one. A male having a feminine appearance does not suggest they have a girlish attitude and wish to live life in a feminine manner but it helps conform more to tradition. Again, making reference to a heterosexual couple where the female holds the expressive role in the couple and the male the instrumental role (ref. Talcott Parsons Sex Roles in Family).

I probably shouldn't message about friend-zones because I don't particularly have any experience in relationships or this kind of topic area.

 

 

 

Friend-zone: The friendship classification for people that are "just good friends".

BFFL: Best Friend For Life, they have their own zone!

Acquaintances: People that might be kind but don't make any advances to become a good friend.

 

 

 

If someone wants to be in a relationship with someone that they barely know the most intelligent thing to do is to become their friend i.e you enter the Friend Zone.

 

This allows one to gain an understanding of the person that is capturing ones attention. The person created a friendship with ulterior motives which are hidden for obvious reasons.

 

The problem is when the plan falls through (50:50 change it will fail) and the friend only considers you as a FRIEND. This person remains in the Friend Zone and does not get promoted to BFFL, BF/GF, Sexy Man Iguana Beast or become demoted to Acquaintance.

 

Nothing changes and this is frustrating because there was a longing, unrequited love that will never be returned. It is a little bit sad if you think of "remaining in the friend zone" as another case of unrequited love.

 

That being said, some people like playing games and are Heart Breakers...

I believe it is a chemical reaction. Love at first sight isn't really solely at first "sight" but rather occurs when you assess someone for the first time. Unconsciously, you take in their "scent" or pheromones. If they smell sweet, your body tells you that they are not a dangerous toxin and thus you are not repelled by them. This does not necessarily mean you like them, just that you don't hate them XDD

 

What contributes more to the idea that you "love" them is when you become sexually attracted to them. This happens when your assessment of them shows that they are a good mating candidate to produce your offsprings XDD so women with wide hips for childbearing and men with muscles to protect the child... I guess this is where you get all those ideal body types from (not too sure where gay men and lesbian women fit in to this O.O I love them and all but I can't seem to explain XDDD maybe it's because living things tend to like similar living things... if they mated with something that's not the same species, they can't produce offspring since the number of chromosomes don't match. And it just so happens these people like similar people more... I don't know :/ )

 

The environment around a person when they experience "love at first sight" also influences whether they become attracted to a person or not. If your body is going through stress, whether it is good or bad, you are more likely to find someone attractive. I think it sprouts from the idea that stress is a bodily response to danger and when you're in danger, you're not likely to survive.
