Will leaned back against the library book shelf, closing his eyes for a moment and letting out a low breath as he waited for the line to go down in order to use the computer to find the book he needed for his up coming research paper for his Psychology class. He had already spent about 40 minutes trying to track down the damn thing, and after that failure of an attempt he decided to just ask for help instead of continuing to look or asking Nathaniel to look for it for him. He grumbled to himself as he adjusted his arms, tilting his head to stare out the window while he waited, allowing his imagination to wonder to other things. This common routine, go to college, study for tests, take the test, go to work, go to sleep and repeat was all that there was to his life. His life, to others may have seemed boring, but it is in the simplicity of his extraordinarily ordinary life that he found comfort. Nothing was ever a surprise, he expected it all. He was pulled from his thoughts by the loud, curt sound of a bell dinging. Looking back over he saw the librarian push a stray curl back on her perfectly greased down hair and motioned for him to approach with a crooked, knobbed finger. As he did he could not help but confirm to himself that she looked just like the teacher from those Black Lagoon books her used to read when he was younger.

"What is it that you need?" She asked, and her voice was just as gruff as the rest of her. Clearing his throat, Will spoke, "Yes, do you have The History Of Multiple Personality Disorder? I have been looking but can't find it." He watched as she pushed her glasses up on her nose and began typing away on her computer with those knoby fingers of hers. With a click of her tongue she nodded and spoke, "It is in the back, under the history section, not the Mental Illnesses section." With a quick nodded he turned and headed back to the section were the book was, and reached over, after about three minutes of thumbing over the book bindings her found exactly what he needed. Taking it, he made his way back to the table where he and Nathaniel had strewn out there things. There was a large bag of spicey ships, and two coffees, along with many texts books and scattered papers about the table. With a melodramatic thud, he dropped the book onto the table and sunk down in the chair beside his best friend. "Got it, did you know the librarians here are creeper than the ones in haunted movies?" He joked as he flipped open his text book and began copying the notes. He was to involved in his current activity to notice the dull rumbling noise that was begining to sound, in irregular beats. The cups of coffee both began to show vibrations, though they were not strong enough for most of the people in the library to notice yet. However a few people began to stand and look around in confusion.

Tapping the end of his pen on the lined paper of his note binder in quick cadences as his eyes swept over the lines of words in the opened book.

His pale gaze moved along the page as he reached into the bag on his left for another chip. The low hum of activity in the room was a calming back drop for studying the large tome like book. Political constitutionalism vs. legal constitutionalism was not something one could read with too many distractions. It was a boring as hell subject, with terms he had to look up on his tablet in order to understand. But, law was his major, so he couldn't completely complain.

It was his choice to become a lawyer.

The sound of a loud thwacking on the table top broke him out of the trance he had managed to work himself into, and it hadn't been easy. His head snapped up and his pale silver eyes glared daggers at the young male responsible, the ire in them not letting up as he sat down and began to say something about the librarian.

Did he not feel the sharp sting of his irritation?

It was rather obvious he had not when he was ignored and the other began to read. Sitting back in his seat, Nathaniel opened his mouth to voice his displeasure, but the feeling of a light vibration through his chair made the words still and die before he even moved his lips. A slight frown creased his brow as the vibration seemed to come again, then again.

Looking around himself, he noticed it wasn't just him.

Other people in the library were taking notice, standing to their feet and casting looks around in confusion, but of course, the one person seemed to be completely oblivious was his best friend Will. Nathaniel was just reaching out, taking a hold of his friends arm, a deep well of dread opening up in the pit of his stomach when suddenly there was a loud booming against the walls, the glass of the windows shattered as the whole building rocked with the force.

The hold around Will's arm tightened as Nathaniel jumped to his feet just as those that hadn't been knocked down or injured were running for the doors.

Will had been used to Natheniels sharp tongue, he was always more serious than Will, who seemed rather carefree and oblivious most of the time. They had been friends for a long time, long enough that Will was able to just power through whenever Natheniel became agitated with him.

He had once more sunk himself into the reading, however he vaguely paused when he felt the others hand on his arm. However he was trying to finish this last paragraph of notes so chose not break his complete concentration to look up. He was ripped from any concentration he might have had as the ground beneath them vibrated and the windows shattered. He jerked up, half by himself and half because when Nathaniel jumped up he had a hold of his arm. With wide eyes, his head wipped around, trying to find out what happened.

But all he saw were people screaming, a few had been cut by the shattered glass and were hold there injuries while running to the door. Through the shattered windows a thick cloud of very dark smoke was filtering into the library. He watched in horror as a girl that must have been here with her mother was trampled. This was not right, his life was normal, calm and predictable. This was not right, this could not be his life. Was he asleep?

"Nathaniel, what is all this?" He asked, however he was in such a shock that it came out of more of a murmur than much else so above all the noise of course it could not have been heard.

He turned towards his friend, away from the chaos just as another loud rumble shook the ground, the impact even closer now, and without any sort of protection from the windows the smoke rushed it with the force of the nearby explosion now. Most everyone was knocked back with this, Will was facing away from the windows so flung face first, grabbing onto Nathaniel as well and unintentionally dragged him down as well. The boys both toppled to the ground, screamed filled the air, then a loud bang sounded next to Will. Eyes wide he saw that the book cases were beginning to fall over. He had not even felt it but he and Nathaniel were being showered with books.

He inhaled to scream, however as he did in case the smoke and ash which cut him off as he coughed violently. There was a faint hue outside the window, which suggested a rather large fire was nearby, however now that was not the fire that worried him. Many of the lights had fallen down now, and with all the chaos a fire had erupted in the back end of the library, and with all the books and paper to feed it, this library was burning fast. He tried to stand to run but was quickly knocked back onto the other with the raining books and all the smoke making the people trapped in the library light headed and disoriented.

A loud thump sounded near the door and he saw that large book case had fallen there, blocking the exit and crushing all the people that were rushing out.

The impact of the explosion sent him and Will to the floor.

He struck his head pretty hard on the wooden floor, dazing him for a moment, but he didn't let go of his friends arm.

Choking on the thick smoke filled air, he turned on his side, ignoring the feeling of the books falling on him. They had to get out of there. He had to find a way to get Will out.

Determined, he got to his knees just as the main entrance was blocked, his grip on Will was bruising as he dragged him along as he finally got onto his feet, one eyes closed tightly against the sting of blood as it rushed down his face.

“Come on.” he managed to choke out.

He made his way in the opposite direction of the fire just as the sprinklers decided to operate. Climbing over books and fallen shelves, he made sure Will was with him every step of the way. On the far wall, there was a door that said 'Employes Only'. Nathaniel didn't hesitate to open the door, flinging it inwards to reveal a break room and a heavy door with a sign that said 'Exit' over head on the opposite wall.

Practically carrying Will, he rushed across the room, slamming into the metal bar that was the opening mechanism to release the lock. The door swung out into a alley with over turned dumpsters, glass, and broken bricks. He stopped for a moment, wiping the blood and his long wet hair back from his face as his hands went into his jean pockets, searching for the keys to his car, they would need it to get far, that was if it wasn't blown up.

Feeling them, he sighed in relief. He hadn't left them in his backpack. Taking Will's hand, he gave him a small tug to follow him as he turned to make his way to the parking lots. And it was chaos that met them. Fires had erupted everywhere, buildings with gaping holes, car were set ablaze, people running in every direction.

Tightening his hold on his friends hand, he started towards where he had parked. The sounds of more explosions could be heard in the distance, and the tremors could be felt, but all Nathaniel worried about was himself and Will.

Seeing his car, he sighed once again in relief.

He had to park a little distance away from the library when they arrived, and it seemed to have saved the car from any damage. So intent on getting out of there, he almost didn't see the car coming their way, speeding and out of control. Nathaniel didn't even think as he reacted instinctively to the danger, shoving Will back hard enough to keep him out of the line of the oncoming car. The impact sent him into the windshield, before his body was flung off the side.

Rolling to a stop on the black asphalt, Nathaniel blinked up at the sky confused as what had just happened. Nothing seemed to penetrate his spinning mind as he tried to figure out why he was on the ground. He couldn't feel anything, so he sat up slowly, Will's name the only thing coming to mind, and that he needed to get him to safety.

“Will!” he called out as he began to get to his feet.

Will stumbled behind the other, coughing violently. His mouth was slightly agape, watching carefully where he stepped, he stumbled a bit and feared loosing the others grip so tried to be careful. However from the corner of his eye he saw a man, writhing on the floor in pain, and saw a large chunk of glass embedded in his stomach. He dragged his eyes away and stared intently on the back of his friends head, he would not get out if he kept looking around and seeing all this. Once they had busted through into the employ's only room, all that went through his mind was that if they were caught in here, they would get in so much trouble. Once outside, the hot, thick hair smacked the boys in the face. It was hard to see much, smoke was clouding the air quickly. He reached up to rub his eyes with the back of his free arm, the one that was not clinging to the others hand, but that did no good.

He cursed himself for not bringing his enhaler as he coughed harshly again, his attention was grabbed however when he notice a shoe in the street. It looked like a white polished shoe a little girl might wear to church for her first communion or something elegant like that. Even while being drug along, he could not help but stare at that shoe, ignoring all the screams, all the people, all he saw was that one, solitary shoe. A large explosion went off many blocks up beyond that, quickly blowing away the shoe, which Will watched until it could no longer be seen. It had been less than ten minutes, and his entire world had changed, everything was different, this was not how his life was supposed to be.

He was way to focused on that one shoe that was now gone to see the car coming either, he felt himself shoved back and cried out as he saw Nathaniel smack into the cars windshield, above all the noise he could hear the deafening crack of the windshield. "Nathaniel!" He cried out, but the initial shove caused him to stumble back and fall to the ground. Immediate relieve flooded him when he heard his friends voice calling out for him, he opened his mouth to call back while getting to his feet as well but an explosion went off directly behind him, blowing everyone to the ground again. Will smacked face first into the ground. Everything on the street seemed to stop, he saw people beginning to get up and run. However he could hear nothing but a dull ringing in his hears as he lay stomach first on the pavement, the car that had hit Nathaniel had crashed into a building and the driver was stewn out, assumable dead on the hood of it. There was dark spots all around his vision, for a moment, he considered not getting back up. He could close his eyes and let go, but then he saw Nathaniel hit the car in front of him again and with a groan of protest closed his eyes, sucked in his breath and climbed to his feet, looking around wildly for the other he cried otu for him again, while holding onto his right arm which was bleeding.

Laid out onto his side, Nathaniel's ears rang from the explosion from just a few moments ago.

His body was so numb, even the cold from the ground could be felt through the thick haze surrounding him. Someone ran by him, he could see their figure, but he couldn't really make out much else since his vision was foggy. Nothing looked real as he stared out at the world. Everything moved in and out of that heavy fog. He felt so tired as well. So very tired, that all he wanted to do was close his eyes and just sleep. His lids were almost shut, growing heavier with every second.

Sleep, it sounded so good right now.

Just before those heavy lids covered his silver eyes, the sound of his name ranged out in the air, being called out by a very familiar voice. His burning eyes opened completely, the rolling smoke stinging them as he laid there.

Who was that calling him?

He tried to remember, his brow creasing for a moment as he was attempting to call the memory. First it wasn't there, nothing, but then it rushed to him.

“Will...” he breathed no louder than a whisper.

Taking a breath, he was about to call out louder, but a severely sharp stabbing pain shot through his ribs and chest, along with the feeling of something rising from his throat and into his mouth. The bitter taste of blood hit his tongue right before he coughed up more.

Nathaniel reached up, and wiped at his mouth, pulling his hand away, his gray eyes went to his blood coated fingers and smeared palm. Swallowing, he began to move himself, clenching his jaw as his body protested, but he pushed himself until he was on his feet, his body swaying dangerously, threatening to fall back to the cold ground.

“Will!” he called out, as he wrapped his only good arm around his ribs as they flared alive with enough pain to tempt him to just lay back down.

Turning, he saw him through the haze of smoke.

Lurching his body that direction, he barely closed the distance as his hand dropped onto the others shoulder.

“Will... the car... “ he said as he tightened his grip before he turned himself, leaning on the other man as he took him with him.

Wills eyes were widened when he heard the other call out his name, whipping around and locked eyes with the other, he nodded gravely as they began heading to the car. He had one arm wrapped around Nathaniels waist and the other holding onto his hand to keep him stead as they eased there way to the car. People kept bumping into them, and he feared that he would loose grip of Nathaniel, so he tried to speed up his walking until they stumbled to the car, he leaned against it for a moment to catch his breath, before taking the keys from the pale Nathaniel and jammed them into the lock, it took him four times due to the shakiness of his hands. Finally he wrenched the door open, hit the unlock button and opened the back door where he quickly eased Nathaniel into the seat while he spoke in a light tone, the first he had spoken since before the car hit him "I know you don't want me to drive, but you are in no condition, I promise not to hit any fire hydrants, okay?" He managed a weak smile and nod before slamming the door shut, not waiting for an answer. They had to get out of there or they were going to die, and Nathaniel was slammed by that car and needed help, now. He climbed into the drivers seat, and buckled his seat belt, then jammed the keys into the ignition and sighed in relief as the car roared to life. He glanced back in the rear view mirror to see behind as he pulled out, but frowned when he saw the others pale face in the reflection. Distracted by that he did not notice the man until he was beside the car and pounding on the window. With a jump Will yelled through the window, "Get off!!" The man looked as though he was probably homeless before this all, his teeth were yellowing, and he looked unshaven, the man yelled back, "Please! It is burning out here! The air hurts, please!" Will cursed under his breath, looked back at Nathaniel before unlocking the door, the man climbed in quickly and buckled up without another word and they were off. He didn't know where they were going, he was not stupid enough to try and get to a hospital in all of this. The shrine from when he was younger came to mind, and he quickly changed directions and hit the gas. The sounds from all the explosions began to fade the further out of town they got.

Nathaniel watched through the smallest slit of his eye lids out the window laid out on his back in the backseat.

Nothing really registered, his mind was almost completely blank. Nothing lingered except one thought. No pain, no panic, nothing but getting Will out and safe. His eyes moved to the man in the front seat, driving. He didn't care where they went, as long as his friend was alive. The feeling of something bubbling up to his lips made him choke.

Determinedly, he kept the sound down so as not to worry his friend.

He could feel the warm liquid seep through, running from the corner of his mouth to run down his chin. Unable to move, he could do nothing to hide it, he couldn't even manage to move his head, his hearing was going out in intervals and the steady movement of the car lolled him into a complete state of lethargy. Keeping his eyes open began to become harder and harder as he slowly began to lose the fight to stay awake, that solid darkness waiting on the other side was beckoning so sweetly.

Holding on just a little longer, he kept his friends profile steady in his dimming sight.

  • 1 month later...

The cars engine was roaring as he sped through the city, he needed to hurry, to find help, to save his best friend who was currently laying in the back seat, bleeding out.

This couldn't be happening, his life was normal and boring, and he loved every aspect of it, he loved the man currently sprawled in his back seat. He was to focused on his thoughts and didn't notice that he had to turn a corner until it was almost to late, swerving the car to the right they halted to a quick stop , causing the driver and passenger to smack there heads on the dash in front of them. However, without a seconds pause, he simply backed up the car and jerked it forward with a slam of the gas.

Everything was going to be fine, he would get up to the shrines and save his friend, everything would be fine.

The man beside Will began to grin to himself, this human was gullible and could easily be lead the direction that he needed. It only took about twenty moments for him to arrive at the shrine, to which he slammed the gas and all but jumped out of the car, blood seeping from his forehead as he jerked open the door to the back seat, and tugged out his friend, wrapping the others arm around his shoulders and without another word murmuring, "You will be alright, we will be fine." The more he tried to convince himself, the more it seemed to be in vain, Nathaniel was very pale, and Will could see blood on his lips, and knew that in a short about of time without help, his friend would die.

As soon as he made it through the door to the shrine, he could not longer support the weight of his best friend and they both toppled to the ground, and he cried out in frustration, "Someone, please, help us!"

Nathaniel felt someone touching him, bringing him out of the deep trance he had been in.

He couldn't see, everything was so blurry and out of focus. His body protested as he was yanked here and there, moving when all he wanted was to rest, to lay there in peace and quiet, but it was the sound of that voice near his ear that made him remember. This was... this was someone he knew.

Someone he was close to... but he couldn't see him clearly, though he knew it was Will.

He tried to help hold his own weight up, but it was impossible and soon he felt immense pain as he and Will fell to the floor. Rolling onto his side, he followed the sound of his friends voice when he called out for help with his eyes. Determinedly he stared harder until he could see his face, he fixed his gaze on nothing but Will. Soon it became clear, the features he had known for so long, the one person who had been by his side for so long.

Reaching his hand out, he slipped it over the others, closing his numb fingers over it. He wanted to stay and protect him, but he could feel his body giving in, he could feel the darkness winning as it pulled on him insistently, and he couldn't fight back anymore. His eyes stayed locked on the others face even as the last breath moved out of his lungs, even as everything grew dark for the last time, his hand tightening before the last of the life finally slipping away into the eternal unknown.

Will watched, eyes with with horror and brimming with tears that he could no longer hold back as he watched the man before him, die. This was not just a man, this was his best friend, the person that he had always hung around, the person that he could call in the middle of the night if he couldn't sleep. They were going to grow up together, they would both find girls to marry, have children and remain best friends for life. Somehow, the last part of that managed to leave a bitter feeling in his mind, of watching hsi best friend walk down the isle with a women, though that was quickly gone when he realized that that would never come to pass. Nathaniel would never walk down the isle, with anyone.

He would never marry someone, never have kids, he would never joke with Will again, would never make Will coffee and eggs when they had to pull an all nighter for studying. Will would never hear Nathaniels voice again. He pulled Nathaniel into his lap and clutched the other boy to his chest as tightly as he could, rocking slightly as tears poured down his cheeks, he whispered into Nathanils ear, "Please...please, come back, you can't leave me alone, please Nate."

  • 2 weeks later...

Watching the young human cry over the others dead body made the smile he had worn in the car spread over his face even further.

Humans were much too gullible. Their selfish nature made them the perfect prey, and he doubted this one would be any different. There was an opportunity here, and one he was not about to let slip through his fingers. Moving closer, into the shrine, his booted feet making no sound, he stopped just behind the young human as he cradled his friend to him.

Placing a hand that conveyed comfort on the boys shoulder, he gave it a small squeeze.

“I am so sorry for your lost young one.” he said, his voice cooing with a deep sympathy he did not feel.

Crouching down beside him, his arm moved across his shoulders, “It is always sad when you lose someone you care for. Death is never easy. But it's not the end as everyone claims it to be. Death doesn't have to be permanent. There is always hope.” he said his hold tightened, bring the boy in a little closer.

“What if I told you, you could have him back? That I know of a way that will have him waking in your arms as we speak?” he whispered almost seductively, looking through his dark lashes at the boy.

Yes, it was the ultimate seduction.

The mans eyes bore into the young human with a gleaming intensity, waiting for him to take the bait.

Will couldn't keep himself from holding onto the other, he felt like the moment he let go of his best friends body, he would forever be saying goodbye to him, which is something that he couldn't stand to do. So he just sat there, clutching the cold, rigid body in his arms as he smoothed back Nate's hair, he jumped when he felt a hand placed on his shoulder, he had completely forgotten that anyone else was there. It took him a few moments to drag his gaze from Nate's cold, pale face up to the man that was standing beside him, it was the first time that he had felt intimidated by this man, but something about him rubbed Will the wrong way. But there was also something that seemed so be as much entrancing as intimidating.

"What are you talking about?" He murmured out softly, his voice thick and raspy from crying as he adjusted the dead body that lay within his arms. "He is dead, no about of wishing can bring back the dead, I would give anything if I could bring him back." The moment those words muttered from his mouth, a gust of wind picked out, blowing his already tousled hair so it was even more of a mess. It did the same to Nate's, to which he reached down and adjusted the others hair accordingly.

The older looking mans smile spread wider when those words left the boys lips.

“I'm not talking of wishes young one.” he said, reassuringly. “I am talking of giving your friend a second chance at life. It would be no trouble at all. I have done this many a time, and they always come back.” he added.

Letting him go, the man reached out and took hold of the dead mans jaw, tilting his head back to get a good look at him. He was surprised by what he saw, but very much pleased. This one was of a rare beauty, he would be a very prized host indeed. That was the problem with humans. Not all of them were in possession of physical beauty and very unappealing.

His hand trailed down the mans neck to his chest, and again he was pleased by what he found. This human had been in perfect health before his death. With minor injuries to heal once he had been taken over, he would indeed be perfect.

Looking back to the young human, he gave him a small smile that he hoped was at the very least genial, “All I require is a key to open the realm of the dead to call him back. But of course... if you rather let him go...” he said as he removed his hand and stood up.

“I can understand. Though you just said you'd do anything....” he trailed off as he turned as if he was going to walk away.

Will frowned as he watched the man run his fingers down Nate, to him, it felt like the other was somehow disrespecting his best friend. There mere idea of this made the smaller boys eyes narrow as he continued to watch, this man was talking of a way to bring Nate back, so of course he was all ears. His grip on Nate only tightened as what seemed to be an inspection took place. However, the man abruptly stopped and stood, turning to leave. It was in this moment that Will knew he couldn't let the man just walk away, not when there was the possibility of bringing back Nate, he would do anything that he needed to. He set Nate back to the ground gently before shooting up, turning around quickly he turned to the other and spoke rather anxiously.

"Wait wait! Please, if you can bring him back, do it. I do not believe in magic or necromancy or anything like that, but if you are telling me that you can bring Nate back to me, then please, do it. I will do whatever you want, I don't have much money but I will find it if that is what you want, just please. Bring him back to me." Even he could hear the pathetically desperate tone in his voice, but right now that did not matter, all that mattered was bringing Nate. He reached forward and took the man by the arm firmly, clearly his throat he spoke, this time more determined. "I will do anything, bring him back." His eyes glint with determination as his lips pursed, his gaze piercing the mans eyes. He would get Nate back, no matter what.

The boys begging made the man smile as he kept his back turned to him.

He fell to a stop and listened to him, the smile dropped when he felt the hand on his arm. Turning his head he looked the other in the eyes, noting the determination shinning in his eyes, he gave a small nod of his head.

“Then let's begin.” he said, as he turned back towards the dead body on the floor.

An hour later he had it all set up.

The body was laid out on his back, both hands on his chest. A large diamond shape had been drawn around the lying figure with a circle closed around it, all made from a pouch of dark sand he had kept in his coat. Once he had that done, he reached back into his coat and and pulled out a small jar. Opening it to reveal black skin paint that he used on the young human, drawing a series intricate circles and rune on his back and torso, and smaller ones on the backs of his hands.

When he was done, he waited for them to dry before he lead him to the edge of the circle and helped him lower himself to the floor on his knees, after which he took the boys hands and cut the palms open with a thin blade from his waistband, then he lead his palms to the body in the circle, placing them on the dead ones chest.

He carefully stepped away from the circle, instructing the boy not to move no matter what happens. He then placed the same circles on the back of his own hands right before he quickly made another but smaller circle and diamond before himself.

Placing his hands in his own circle, gathering his energies, pulling in the magick he needed before sending it down into his hands, pushing it out into the circles around his hands, feeling the symbols on his hand began a small itching feeling that got worse as the energy traveled through all the symbols around the floor.

A thin veil of black mist began to rise from the black sand.

At first thin and hardly noticeable, becoming thicker as it crept across the floor towards the lying body in the circle and his kneeling friend. Crawling over Will, probing like the barest of touches for an opening as it covered him. A low mutter from the man and another pulse, the mist converged onto the circles on the boys hands making them glow darkly, a mild cold going through him and the rest of the room as the mist surrounding him rushed into his body through those symbols.

The intrusion was like cold chill as it moved through him.

Soon it all gathered at the center of the boys body. Another wave of magick from the man and a portal opened behind the boy, a diamond inside a circle floating in mid air. The black mist reached out, disappearing into the portal before pulling back, and in the next moment something else entered his body through the drawing on his back then made it's way out the symbol on his chest, bringing with it a ball of violet fire the size of a basketball, leaving Will with a receding cold feeling.

That violet ball settled on the chest of Nathaniel, slowly pressing inside until it vanished. The portal closed, and the room was still as all the black mist disappeared. Getting to his feet, the man walked over to the body, crouching, he placed a hand on the body's head, his eyes watching his as he waited. It was another few moments before Nathaniel's closed lids fluttered before opening slowly.

The man watched those eyes, smiling once he noticed the violet mist going over the natural color of the humans eyes.

“Welcome, Arian Kross.” he said lowly to the other.
