GoodLittleUke
So on Friday I was just browsing my high school's graphic novel section when I see a book labeled Cute Beast. It's got two boys on it and an "EXPLICIT CONTENT" label on it. Immediately I go into a corner and start flipping through it. Yep, this was yaoi (not shonen-ai because you see some of the sex; by that I mean you could see buttocks and thrusting but you couldn't actually see any private parts down there...) Should I report this before someone more conservative/homophobic then I am finds this, or leave the book there for its next victim (or new fan)? Has anyone else ever found a public/school library with yaoi in it?
1330tango
Not giving advice, but if the title would be withdrawn if the characters are heterosexual, then it would be withdrawn due to explicit content. If a similar manga featuring heterosexuals would be allowed to stay in the collection, then it would be heterosexism/homophobia. Are there other manga or GN marked 18+ for violence and gore? Should they be allowed to stay in the collection? The difficult part of adulthood is knowing what to do when a situation is not clearly right or wrong. Whatever decision you make, just think through why you are doing it and what the desired outcome is. At least you are thinking about these ethical things while still a student. My public library and local B&N only carries shounen or cutesy shoujo stuff. Nothing sexually explicit. Since I'm not into shounen, it didn't occur to me to see if anything was 18+ for violence and gore.
Ero Gaki
LUCKY YOU. Me and my bestfriends are always hanging out in the library, looking for some good stuffs to read (and we're hunting for some books with BL content. We were also wishing that David Levithan's works will somehow appear in our library. >. I think you should just hide it on the back of the shelf or something. What if you did report it for the sake of Homophobics but then someone who loves BL too was longing to read the book? XD
Ventamus
My high school library has one Gravitation volume XD My local library has quite a collection of manga, and I remembered seeing some Bl stuffs there but I don't think any of them are R18 tho.
