Adam sat down heavily on a rock. "so it that it? I have to get every human on this planet to change how they live for you to even lift a finger to help us?" He looked away from the boy. "don't cry... I'll take you outside in a minute... I'm sure we'll all be dead soon enough and then you can be happy with those plant things..."

 

"At least you actually have something to look forward to..." Adam rested his head in his hands. He realized that somewhere deep down he had hoped that things would work out, that mother nature's children would appear out of nowhere and help them. He has always hoped that there was a possibility of things getting better eventually.

 

"I'll take you outside... just... give me a minute..." His voice was tired and he sounded like he was about to cry. Everything that had kept him going in life had just fallen away.

"S-STOP! ...s-stop it... stop saying that! Y..you... you don't...understand."

His voice cracked. Vine cared about the humans. He had saved Adam when he was attacked. He had left him a blue Angel to heal himself. Vine never hurt anyone... even tho humans had always hurt him. It was only natural that he was afraid of human's. He held himself, tenseing up as he stared up at the ceiling.

"... s..sister..."

He heard his sisters crying a long with the plants outside. They were crying for his return.

"...S-she's...crying..."

He looked down at the ground. His heart hurting. He wanted to trust the human's he naturally wanted to help them.

"....I don't... want to see..anything die....your wrong...Your wrong about me.."

"Maybe I am... That doesn't change the fact that I could die any day... It doesn't change the fact that my sister keeps getting sick and might not last much longer..." Adam slowly looked up, a hopeless expression on his face "I guess talking to you has just shown me that there really isn't any hope left... I don't even know what I'm trying so hard for"

 

He stood up and rubbed his eyes. "come on, I know a secret tunnel that goes outside... Let's get you back to your sister"

 

Adam headed for the door. He didn't know why he was even helping the boy, if any of the other people found out he just let this person go it would be really bad for him.

 

He pushed the thoughts aside and tried to focus on the idea of just visiting his sister once he got the boy out of the caves.

Vine fell silent. He stood and slowly followed Adam. As he was lead out of the boys home He got a glimpse of the humans under ground city

 

 

 

And it was....strange, yet he was surprised that they created something like this. The entire way Vine didn't say a word, and even when he saw the moon in the sky... and was hit with fresh air He said nothing. He took a few steps out. His bare feet touching the soft green grass. So this was good bye...

 

Before the human had a chance to leave. He wanted him to know that everything wasn't hopeless... that he could help. Would help...as long as the human's didn't betray him. Dissipate his utter fear for the human's he grabbed Adam's shirt from behind. Looking down at the ground... The sound of crickets, and small cry's of plants filling the air. Light bugs danced around the two of them... as vine spoke.

"T...tomorrow...when you go out to...forage... don't bring any weapons with you...And...you have to come.. "

He slowly met the boys eyes Looking very serious. He let him go, taking a step back.

"t..thank you...

He turned and ran into the forest....disappearing.

That night. Vine return home and fell into his sister's arms. He laid in a flower meadow- facing his sleeping sister, who had calmed down now that he was back. He couldn't sleep... He thought a lot about what happened...and decided he wanted to give humans another chance. Of course...He didn't tell Bloom... knowing She would disagree with him.

 

He snuggled up close to her. Taking in her sweet flowery scent. She resembled there mother so much.

Shortly after...Vine fell asleep, the forest calming down since there Prince of the forest returned.

Adam watched the boy go. He didn't know how he would get anyone to go foraging without a weapon, but he knew that he would have to trust this boy.

 

He let out a soft sigh and went back into the caves. The town was full of smoke from torches and everything was filthy. As Adam walked past the caves people called home he wondered if there was any possible way for things to get worse. Even if they were safe from the plants people were still getting sick all the time. The lack of resources made people fight with each other just for a bit of food.

 

He shook the thoughts out of his head as he reached the cave where his sister stayed with Meg. He wondered if his friend would be able to help him figure out what to do, she was the only person he could really trust with this kind of information. He lightly knocked on the makeshift door on the cave's entrance and waited for a response.

Meg had tucked Adam's little sister in. She was fast asleep. Meg suddenly heard a knock on the door. She sat in a stone carved chair,

"Come in...

She crossed her arms looking away from the boy who came inside.

"She's asleep.. I'll leave to give you some time alone.

You could tell Meg was still mad. She passed by him- bumping his shoulder roughly. Oh yeah...she was defiantly still pissed, and man ! Could she hold a grudge!

[Kotorichan]

"Wait!" Adam grabbed Meg's arm. "Meg please, I want to talk to you" he said, lowering his voice so he wouldn't wake his sister up.

 

"I know you're pissed at me but please just hear me out" he was practically begging her. It had been such an eventful day and the stress was really starting to get to him.

 

"I really do like you but I just don't know if it's romantic or like family... I haven't been able to figure it out but you're really important to me" His voice crack as he spoke and he slowly let go of her. "There's just so much shit going on... I don't want to lose you, but I don't want to hurt you either..."

 

Adam trailed off and looked down at the floor. He felt so lost with all that was happening and the idea of losing his only friend was just too much for him.

Meg stopped as Adam grabbed her arm. She listened before sighing.

"I'm sorry...

She turned to face him, she adored Adam deeply. She smiled at him faintly-cupping his cheek.

"I know your really busy.. with keeping everyone alive and all..and watching over your Sister... but.. I just want you to know I'm here... "

She looked away, her hand falling.

"You...don't have to worry about lossing me.. I'll always be on your side. I'll always be here. I... I don't mind waiting"

She lied a little. She kind if wished he loved her back... that he'd kiss her suddenly and passionately. Like she always dreamed He would.

"I want things to change... I want to see the outside Adam... You go outside There everyday and say it's awful but... I bet there's some beauty to it too... sometimes I'm so envious.....forget it... what did you want to talk about. You sounded like it was something important.

Meg had never seen the what was above ground. Only what they brought back... she never saw the sky or Sun... the stars. She heard story's but... women were forbiddon above ground because..it wasn't safe.

Adam hesitated for a moment before pulling Meg into a firm but gently hug. "thank you... It really means a lot to me"

 

He slowly pulled away and sighed. "to tell the truth... I need you to come outside with me tomorrow..." He bit his lip, trying to think of the best way to explain it.

 

"That kid that I brought in here, the one that was shot... I talked to him and it turns out that he was one of those legendary children of nature. I know it sounds ridiculous but it's true" He paused for a moment "He can help us Meg, I have to meet him tomorrow while we go out foraging... But I can't bring any weapons, no one is going to be willing to go out there but I need to show him that I'm not the only human who wants to change"

 

"The others want things to get better too but they won't just take my word for it that they can go outside without guns, they're too scared" He watched Meg hopefully "Will you help me? please?"

Meg listened. He looked rather confused but listened closely. And she didn't question him.

"I'll help... I'll do anything for you.

She smiled at him faintly. Actually hiding how excited she was. Excited to see the outside would and Shocked that the legendary children of mother nature existed!

{ The Next Day }

Meg sat out side Adam's door. He remembered Adam's plan... But was slightly worried. She was suppose to wait outside for him... since she didn't know the way.. there were already people gathered. Waiting for him to wake up.

Meg was wearing a black tank top... revealing her slim stomach and lose long black pants. Her hair tied back in a pony tail, and shoes. She really wanted to feel the sun. Rain! Grass! She hopped Adam would convince everyone that she was an expectation and could go outside.

Adam had been awake for awhile. He had just been sitting in the darkness of his room. He knew that the people wouldn't be willing to just accept what he said. He was really only the leader because he said things that everyone else was already thinking.

 

He slowly walked over to his door and opened it. He glanced at Meg before turning his gaze to the small crowd that had formed to hear some kind of explanation for his actions. Rumors had traveled quickly, no one really knew what was happening but they knew that Adam was planning something.

 

Adam cleared his throat nervously. If he told people about the child of mother nature then it could be bad. Some people thought that the children should be killed, some thought they were evil, some would probably even think Adam had lost his mind.

 

"Everyone... I'm sure that you have your questions as to what's going on... But as of right now I can't tell you anything. There is something I have to do and I need Meg's help for it, we have enough food for today so there won't be any foraging." He tried to sound confident despite his own doubts "I just ask you all to trust me, I've always done what was best for all of you..."

Meg smiled a little seeing Adam come out. Many people started muttering after his speech.

"Even so- Meg is a girl! "

"Wemon are forbiddon outside! Its not safe"

Meg bit his lip, wanting to yell at them but knew Adam would handle things.

"And what if she left and got hurt! Or worse- eaten?! We would lose our best cook and nurse!"

The people nodded.

Vine stood outside, in front of the cave that Adam freed him from last night. Today it was sunny and the wind was blowing fresh air. The sky a bright blue. In front of Vine was all types of vegetables and fruits in HUGE piles! He grew these fresh for the humans- and they weren't toxic. He sighed- gripping his white tunic. Hoping he could trust Adam.He waited nervously for the human..

"LaLa...I'm so nervous..

He sighed as the bird Sat on a tree branch

Adam took a deep breath, he knew that he would probably get this reaction. "Believe me, if there was any way that I could do this on my own or with someone else I would have..." He stepped closer to Meg and wrapped his arm around her waist. "I truly regret that I have to put the woman I love in danger like this"

 

He glanced down at Meg, hoping that she wouldn't react too much. "But I need her, I promise I'll explain everything to all of you when I am able to..."

 

"I'll make sure that we both come back alive, we won't lose anyone today" He said, looking back towards the group. "Please trust me, I've protected you all for so long... Just put your trust in me this one time"

Meg Was listening but not really paying much attention.

"Believe me, if there was any way that I could do this on my own or with someone else I would have..." [/Quote]

Meg nodded, until Adam stepped closer to her wrapping his strong arm around her slim waist.

She was shocked and looked up at him. Confused.

Meg tensed up. Gulping. Did he just say... love? Did he mean it... or was he just saying that? She bit down on her trembling soft pink lips. Looking at the ground. She didn't look at Adam.

Many of the people were hesitant but,. Adam truly had a way with words. They all slowly agreed.

"I'll make sure that we both come back alive, we won't lose anyone today" Please trust me, I've protected you all for so long... Just put your trust in me this one time"[/Quote]

"Very well...Adam. This Village trusts you with everything. We all see you as a leader anyway. "

Meg followed Adam down the tunnel that lead to the out side wold.... she was right behind him...until she started slowing down... and then stopped.

"A-Adam..."

She looked distraught. Looking down at the ground, twiddling with her soft hands.

As soon as the people agreed Adam hurried into the tunnels. He could feel his face turning red from his confession. He stopped when he head Meg's footsteps stopping and turned back towards her.

 

"Meg... I... I meant what I said" He said softly, his gaze dropping to the ground "I did a lot of thinking last night about you and..."

 

He hesitated a moment, he still wasn't completely sure about his feelings but it just seemed right. Meg had always been there for him and she was so special. "M-maybe it's too soon to say love but I really do like you... in a romantic way, not just a friend"

 

Adam slowly stepped towards her and gently took one of her hands. "I'm sorry that I chose such a crappy way to tell you..."

"Meg... I... I meant what I said...I did a lot of thinking last night about you and..."[/Quote]

Meg suddenly looked up at him. Hope in her eyes. Her beautiful blue eyes.

"M-maybe it's too soon to say love but I really do like you... in a romantic way, not just a friend"[/Quote]

A smile suddenly grew on her lips. Was she dreaming? Was this real life?! She blushed as Adam came and gently took her hand in his.

It felt like everything she had hoped for... big and strong... warm.. sweet.

"I'm sorry that I chose such a crappy way to tell you..."[/Quote]

She giggled with water in her eyes.

"Better late...then never...but... you really did pick a crappy time to tell me."

He squzzed his hand.

"I'm happy. A lot of my dreams that I never thought would come true...Are coming true.... but.. I know that I always talked big about seeing what's out side but... now that it's actually happening...I.. I'm scared. I mean..what if this...grass... isn't as Soft as I thought or that this...never ending sky isn't a pretty as I wanted it to be.."

She looked up at him.. a tear slipping down her face. But Meg was no cry baby- She whipped her own tears away. She was definitely strong.

[Kotorichan]

"You'll love it out there" Adam gave her a very small but genuine smile and gently touched her cheek. "I promise, it'll be better than you could have ever imagined"

 

"Do I have to actually beat myself up now since I made you cry?" He teased lightly. He knew how strong Meg was, but he really hated seeing her cry.

 

He hesitated for a moment before leaning in and very lightly kissing her on the lips. "come on, let's hurry" He squeezed her hand and led her to a tiny exit tunnel.

 

When they reached the small metal door that kept them from the outside world, Adam just looked back at Meg for a moment before slowly opening it and stepping out into the sun. The sudden light blinded him for a minute and he rubbed at his eyes with that hand that wasn't holding Meg.

"How can you be so sure."

Meg was suddenly hit by the warmth of Adam's palm on her cheek. She weakly leaned into his tender touch.

"I promise, it'll be better than you could have ever imagined"[/Quote]

She faintly smiled at him.

"well...when you say it like that... I doesn't sound so scary any more.

 

"Do I have to actually beat myself up now since I made you cry?" [/Quote]

The boys joke made her crack a big smile.

"no...as amusing I think it would be.... no..You don't."

She was glancing down at there intertwined hands until she felt Adam's lips againest hers. Her eyes widened! It happened so quickly!

"come on, let's hurry"[/Quote]

Meg was still shocked over the kiss.As if her face froze in pure bliss, even when Adam squeezed her hand and lead her too the door...her eyes were still big.. and she was touching her lips as if processing what had happened...or...recalling it a hundred times over.

 

When Adam opened the metal door and took Meg outside she was suddenly hit with something bright! She covered her eyes. Struggling to see... to get use to this....sunlight.

When her eyes finally adjusted she removed her hand and her eyes wondered over the world in front of here. The beautiful green! She let go of Adam' s hands and fell to her knees- hesitant at first before she touched the grass... and then..after realizing it wouldn't harm her... she started rolling around in it, laughing widely.

"This is amazing!!!"

She screamed in enjoy. She suddenly got on her feet running to a large tree and touching the bark.

"This is...a tree...right?! And what's underneath us is grass! And.. And.."

She looked up seeing the baby blue sky. Stunned.

"Its....never ending... A-Adam...It's so...beautiful. "

She suddenly came back to her senses as she heard a twig snap. Her eyes darting over to Vine who was hiding behind a tree... the food at his feet.

 

Meg stared at the load of food. This would feed them for months! And the boy...the boy was so beautiful.

"A-Adam...look"

She motioned over at Vine.. who blushed when he saw Adam.

"F...for you..."

He whispered, pointing at the food.. hesitant to come out because he didn't know the human girl all that well. Was she..trustworthy?

[Kotorichan]

Adam couldn't help but smile as he watched Meg run around. It was amazing to see someone actually happy instead of just terrified.

 

He jumped when he noticed the boy behind the tree. "oh my god..." he whispered as he saw the food. "i-is that all edible?"

 

Adam slowly walked closer to Vine but stopped a few feet away, the boy looked nervous and he didn't want to scare him away. "I... Wow... I mean..." he stumbled over his words, unsure of what to say. "thank you... really, thank you so much... I didn't think something like that would even be possible..."

 

He met the boy's eyes. "I, um, I just realized I never actually introduced myself... My name's Adam... Do you have a name or...?

"oh my god...i-is that all edible?"[/Quote]

Vine was watching the girl closely before looking at Adam, he nodded. Answering his question. He clung to his tree as Adam slowly walked closer to him.

"I... Wow... I mean..."[/Quote]

He saw the human stumbling on his words. Did that mean he didn't like it? Did Vine upset him?

 

"thank you... really, thank you so much... I didn't think something like that would even be possible..."[/Quote]

Relief hit Vine...so Adam wasn't mad.

"I... I...grew it..all."

He looked at the ground as Adam tried to meet his eyes.

"I, um, I just realized I never actually introduced myself... My name's Adam... Do you have a name or...?"[/Quote]

The small boy lit up a little bit.

"Vine...My name's Vine."

Meg stood coming up behind Adam.

"Hi Vine.. my name is Meg. It's really nice to meet you. "

She offered him a kind smile and out stretched her hand to him for a hand shake. He stared at her hand confused. After a moment Meg spoke.

"What's wrong? "

He looked at the ground as the girl pulled her hand away.

"You...what were you...just doing?"

Meg eyes widened.

"Well it was a hand shake silly."

"H...hand shake?"

"You don't know what a hand shake is?"

Vine shook his head.

"I see Well...a hand shake is how we uh...we humans..greet each other...it's a friendly gesture. "

She out stretched her hand again.

"Take me hand... I'll show you how it's done."

Vine looked at Adam...hesitant before slowly out reaching his hand and taking hers... Meg smiled kindly and gently shook his hand before letting him go. What was the point of this silly gesture?

"See.. that wasn't so bad. Now we're friends"

"f..friends?"

Was it...that easy? Was it that easy to become friends with the humans?

[Kotorichan]

Adam glanced at Meg and sighed as he watched the two interact. "I always knew you were better at this kind of than me..." he muttered.

 

"Vine... Look, I'm sorry for how angry I got yesterday. I was being a complete asshole" He frowned at looked at the boy. "I hope we can still be friends..."

 

He was glad that Meg was with him, he knew she wouldn't let him get so angry again. "I don't know if you know how important this food is... so many of are starving..."

 

Adam felt himself swaying slightly, he had only gotten about an hour of sleep that night and now that so much of his stress had been relieved he didn't know how much longer he could stay upright.

 

He rubbed at his eyes, trying to wake himself up. "I..." He trailed off, everything seemed to be getting blurry and he reached out a hand towards Meg to steady himself.

"I always knew you were better at this kind of than me..."[/Quote]

Meg winked at Adam. She was always a kind hearted girl and very nice.

"Vine... Look, I'm sorry for how angry I got yesterday. I was being a complete asshole. I hope we can still be friends..."[/Quote]

"F..friends? Y..you want to be...my friends? "

His face lit up a little, But he looked confused too. "I-I've never had humans f-friends before! "

 

"I don't know if you know how important this food is... so many of us are starving..."[/Quote]

Vine looked at the ground. He never ate any of it. And He didn't mind growing the food for Adam.

"I.. I don't eat those..kinds of things so...they were just...there."

Meg smiled at Vine... until she noticed Adam was acting strange. When Adam reached toward her She quickly steadied him.

"Adam! Are you okay?

Vine took a step back worried that he did something wrong.

[Kotorichan]

Adam shut his eyes and leaned against Meg. "Sorry... I'm fine..." he murmured, trying to regain his balance. "I haven't really been eating or sleeping enough... I'll be fine..."

 

He opened his eyes again and tried to force a smile. "Don't worry about me" he tried to pull away from Meg despite how shaky his legs were.

 

"I'll be able to eat something later and then hopefully I can sleep well tonight" He didn't feel as confident as he sounded, he knew he was starting to get sick which could be huge problem in the caves. But at this point there wasn't much he could do, and he couldn't bring himself to let anyone else worry.

Vine bit his lip. Watching the human closely. Wondering what was wrong.

"Sorry... I'm fine.. I haven't really been eating or sleeping enough... I'll be fine...[/Quote]

Meg frowned.

"Are you sure? Don't you dare lie to me Adam"

Her voice stern.

"Don't worry about me . I'll be able to eat something later and then hopefully I can sleep well tonight" [/Quote]

Meg sighed as Adam stood up on his own. Still worried about him. She held his hand tightly. Vine looked at the ground. He was curious as to what the girl and the boy where doing with there hands but,..he said nothing of it.

"B..before...you go.. you said you had a ill s-sister..."

Vine looked up at Adam before kneeling down in the grass. He closed his eyes and started humming a beautiful medley. His hand swaying over the grass as flowers started to emerge from it...and not just any flowers but Blue Angal's, snow was around them to help keep the four flowers alive. Meg stared in wonder and joy.

"There so...lovely~ Are those to help heal Adam's sister?"

Vine nodded As the flowers bloomed and he stood.

".. And...the man eating plants..d-don't hurt people...as long as...there not carrying any weapons...so...d-don't come out unless your completely unarmed..."

He told Adam... he hoped he could trust these two humans...for they have shown him great kindness.

".. I...I should go."

He turned to leave.

[Kotorichan]

Adam stared down at the flowers for a moment before looking up at Vine. "Thank you so much... I'll try to convince the others to stop carrying weapons..." he sighed softly "I can't promise that they'll all listen... in fact I know that many of them won't believe me especially at first... But I hope you can give us some time, and please remember that not all the humans are part of my group."

 

He frowned slightly and took a small step after Vine. "Wait! Uh, how could I contact you if I need to talk to you about something?" he called.

 

Adam was already getting worried about telling everyone else what had happen, he knew it would be a bad idea to keep it a secret but people would no doubt react badly at first.
