Light was busy working on how many people he wanted to kill at the moment. It seemed like over the years people were just getting eviler and eviler, since it was Christmas break Light was able to kill more people. It was just a couple of days before Christmas eve and he knew his family had probably bought him a lot of gifts like they usually do; he bought gifts for his parents and his sister as well. However, he had totally forgotten about Misa, he didnt get her anything. That showed you how important she was to him, it just slipped his mind. Him and Misa had been in a relationship for about a year now, he had really only agreed to being with her just so he could get her off his chest. He kept getting a lot of calls from her lately, but all he did was ignore the poor girl, breaking her heart. Light had been up all night in his room trying to catch this killer that raped a 9 year girl about 10 years ago. He knew that the person had gotten out of jail like last week and he wanted him dead. He just couldnt figure out why he couldnt find this person's real name on the news at all. When he wrote the young man's name that appeared on the news it never seemed to work. He wanted to do everything in his power to kill this person, he didnt like the story behind her death, she was brutally murdered. He felt this young man should have stayed behind bars forever. He was still also trying to kill L as well, that was stressing him out.

 

"Light..can you come down stairs, Mom baked some cookies!" Sayu shouted from downstairs stuffing her face with chocolate chip cookies and drinking a glass of milk.

 

"Not..right now Sayu, I dont really want any cookies I'm busy!" Light pulled at his hair frustrated, as he continued to write in his notebook.

 

"Your always busy Light, you better not do this for Christmas eve!!" Sayu pouted and went back into the kitchen with her mom.

 

Light sighed a bit, he didnt really have time for his family much anymore, not even around the holidays and he wished they would just leave him a lone.

Wide, dark gray eyes stared at a computer screen, the blue light illuminating a pale face that was framed by messy, jet black hair. Crouched in an office chair was the detective L, known to those who worked with him as Ryuzaki. Behind him, an older man was carrying a tray towards the desk the man was sitting in front of. "You really should turn a light on," Watari scolded gently a he placed the silver tray next to the computer. L simply hummed in response, his eyes darting from the screen to the contents of the tray and then back again. Watari caught this movement and chuckled softly, setting a small plate with a strawberry-frosted cake beside L's hand. While the old butler was pouring tea, L turned in his chair and picked up the plate and fork, bringing pieces of the pastry to his lips.

 

"Ever since school was let out for the Christmas break, the number of killings committed by Kira has increased by fifty-seven percent. I am now eighty-nine percent sure that Kira is a student. Of course, I can't rule out the possibility that Kira is simply pretending to be a student." Watari nodded and handed the delicate cup of tea to his ward, who accepted it. He didn't ask about the sugar, knowing that Watari always put in just the right amount.

Ryuuk flew near Light holding a bowl of apples and ate them as he sat near him, "What are you working on Light..?" He noticed how stressed he looked, he had been sitting at that desk all day writing. He did not go downstairs once today. He saw nothing but scraps of paper and eraser shavings everywhere, some on the floor and piled up in the trash bin.

 

Light clicked through the TV with the remote looking for something to watch, he sighed heavily taking a break as he rested his head on his hand closing his eyes a bit. He finally responded to the question, "..This asshole that got released last week, mutilating a 9 yr old girl..and I'm still trying to get his ass and L." Light rubbed his baggy eyes tiredly, yawning he stretched as he got up from his seat and went to his bed. "That bastard still has cops looking for me everywhere..." Light got under his sheets and closed his eyes turning off the lamp. It felt so relaxing until his phone vibrated. He jumped a bit, he knew that had to be Misa but he ignored it. He got tired of her calling him like every 2 hours, it was getting ridiculous.

 

"You still havent call the girl back..?" Ryuk laughed and shook his head as he proceeded to eat another apple, "What a nice relationship you two have..." The brown headed male sighed heavily from the comment and fell sound asleep.

If Watari didn't know L very well, he would have recommended that the younger man rest for a while, if not go to sleep. But he knew that L spent almost all of his time working and rarely slept. He waited patiently while the black-haired man ate the cake and sipped the tea; when he was finished, the butler gathered up all of the silverware and carried it to the door. "Good night," he called back before leaving the small office. L brought his thumb to his lips as soon as the door was closed, his eyes no longer focusing on the words on the computer screen as he went deep into thought. He needed a way to get a reaction from Kira, draw him out and challenge him. He immediately thought of the man recently captured and charged with rape and murder. The man was going to be executed for other past crimes, and because of that his name hadn't been released to the public. Kira must be very frustrated with this...I wonder... It was time to set up another Lind L. Taylor scenario.

Light slowly woke up from being shook by someone and he jumped out of his bed to see Sayu had crawled on top of him. "What in God's name are you doing?!" Light snapped at his little sister panting heavily.

 

"Uhm..Misa is here, I told her you were sleeping but she really wanted to see you.."

 

"Are you kidding me..?" He slowly untangled himself out of his sheets and sat on his bed sighing as he ran his fingers through his hair, "Let me get myself together first..''

 

Ryuk laughed and snickered as Light fell out the bed, "Misa is fixated on you.."

 

Light rolled his eyes at Ryuk, his sister went back downstairs. he cleaned himself up before sitting at his desk again and realizing Misa was behind him as he heard the door open.

 

"Light..I have to talk to you, I feel like we dont ever get too see each other at all and I cant take it anymore.." Misa cringed as he started to cry and bawl up her first, "I really wanna hang out today... "..I also bought you something special for Christmas.''

 

Ryuk burst out laughing while eating popcorn. He felt Light's death glare.

 

Lights blushed a little feeling a bit awkward and ashamed in this situation."M-Misa..I have too actually go to store today and get some groceries for Christmas Eve. My mom is at work.." He could barely look at her.

 

"What does that mean? ..Can I come?"

 

"I guess.." He sighed as he stood and went to the door, "come on Ryuk..lets go to the store." Light yawned as he headed downstairs, he noticed Misa tried to grab his hand and he frowned interlocking his hand with hers.

 

"Can we get some apples?" He asked smiling brightly as he flew down the stairs, "Sure.." Light told him.

 

"Oh..Light can I come?!" Sayu asked following after her brother, jumping up and down. "Sure why not.." Light said softly. Misa frowned realizing she wasnt going to have any time a lone with her boyfriend.

Later that morning--L had needed to wait for his co-workers to wake up, which he found to be rather irritating, but Watari had told him it was common courtesy--the black-haired young man was sitting in a hotel room with his feet tucked under him in that odd crouched way that he sat, his hands curled around a mug of hot chocolate while he stared unblinkingly at the other men in the room. One of them cleared his throat, but nothing was said for several moments. Eventually, L broke the silence. "I believe that Kira is attempting to kill the rapist who was arrested recently. However, because his name has not been released, Kira cannot kill him. I'm sure you all remember Lind L. Taylor?" He watched with his usual blank expression as realization dawned on the others, their eyes lighting up. "Good. I suggest that we do the same this time. Not only will it prove my theory even further, but it will rile Kira up and most likely force him into doing something bold."

As him and Misa went outside they got in the car and drove to the grocery store and went inside. Sayu ran around the store a bit as she looked around for something her brother might buy for her."Light..what do you plan on doing for Christmas?" She asked as her eyes lit up, grinning she wondered what her boyfriend had got her. "I was hoping maybe you could come to my house.." Misa smirked a bit, you havent been there in a while. Light was busy thinking about the killer he was looking for while placing items in the basket, "Why the hell cant I find that son of a bitch!" He muttered to himself as he threw some can goods in the basket.

 

"..Light? Are you listening to me? Misa frowned and sighed at the other, she would do anything to get his attention. "Huh..did you say something to me?" Light realize he was spacing out again, "I'm sorry..Misa my mind was somewhere else." Ryuk watched as the child ran around the store hyper and singing. "Your..always so-" Misa was about to get heated at light until a tiny dog came up to her and licked her leg. "Oh my God..hi little budy~!" Misa hugged him as she kissed the puppy, she started to talk to it like it was her baby. The dog then caught Sayu's attention as she heard it bark from down the aisle. She smiled darting over to the animal as she dropped the candy in the basket. "Ooh~! Light can have him! Please please please~!"

"I dunno Sayu..it might be somebody elses dog." Sayu jumped up and down happily, as Misa handed the puppy to the girl. "I think you should just let her have it.." Misa suggested. However Misa wasnt done, she started arguing with light about how he never listens to her and Ryuk just watched snickering. Sayu held the puppy for a while before having to chase it out the door. "Fine go be with somebody else then..I dont give a fuck!" Light hadnt noticed his sister had left out the grocery store. And thats when it happened, it only took a second not to watch his little sister. "Screw you light!" Misa shouted and kept on yelling, but light could no longer hear Misa. He dropped the can good on the ground and everything seemed so much slower to him. His heart rate increased, he wasnt breathing normally, his eyes widened as he pushed his girlfriend a side, running out the door to see Sayu and the dog laying in the street.

"Very good. We'll run the broadcast tonight, Ryuzaki." L nodded briefly to the lead detective of the team he was working with, watching the other men leave the hotel room through wide, empty gray eyes. As soon as they were gone, he put his thumb to his lip and bit down on the nail thoughtfully. We'll have to see who benefits most from his endeavor, Kira. He removed his finger from his mouth and looked up when he heard Watari enter the room. The older man gave his ward a small smile.

 

"Will you be eating in here?" L seemed to contemplate this for a moment before shaking his head. He stood, slouched over with his hands in the pockets of his baggy jeans.

 

"No; I'll be in my office." He shuffled out of the room, bare feet making no sound on the expensive white carpet.

When Light saw his sister in the street, he barely made it over to her without fainting.

"..Jesus Christ." Ryuk's eyes widened in fear, he panted heavily as he saw Light collapse. He flew out the grocery store over to Light's body as he tried to help him. he knew he didnt care for humans much, but this was unbelievable. Misa was in state of shock, so she couldnt even move her body, she just fell in the grocery store. Her eyes were wide open. The people around them could not believe what they had just witnessed. A bunch of people were either trying to help Misa, screaming and crying as they called 911 or trying to help Light and Sayu.

 

Much later, Light slowly woken up in a hospital bed, his eyes snapped wide open and he laid there not even bothering to sit up. He could remember everything clearly that happened from earlier. However he did not cry at first, and he didnt know why, he was just shocked. He kept trying to make himself believe that maybe he was just dreaming and he didnt wake up yet. However, he saw out the corner of his eye that Ryuk was sitting in a chair, but he didnt say anything. After about maybe an hour he finally spoke. "...Where is she?" Light asked softly staring at the ceiling. Ryuk didnt feel like speaking at all, he just cringed a bit and looked down as he ignored the other. He was going to tell Light his parents came to see him earlier but he couldnt say anything. The brown haired boy didnt ask any further questions, he knew why Ryuk didnt speak and he stopped talking himself. He just cried himself back to sleep. Ryuk shivered feeling uncomfortable, he wanted to leave so bad but nobody else was here for the other at the moment.

 

After a while, it was around midnight. Suddenly the nurse walked in, her eyes lit up from seeing him awake and she went to the front desk to call his parents. Light just laid there quietly, still staring at the ceiling, there was a TV screen infront of him on the wall. The news came on but he wasnt hearing it.

L sat silently in a large, plush chair in the main room of the hotel he was staying at, his large gray eyes glued to the television screen in front of him. He was in his usual crouched sitting position, but it seemed as though he was poised to jump with how far he was leaning forward. His thumb found its way to his mouth as the news came on.

 

"Today, the name of the man accused of raping and murdering a young girl is being revealed to the public, courtesy of the Tokyo Police Department." A picture of a tall, blonde man with brown eyes appeared on the screen next to the announcer's head. "His name is Walter Robinson, who moved here from England a few years ago."

Light came out of his trance once he heard the killer on TV, he stood up, thinking about the death note. Walter Robinson? That bastard name is Walter Robinson..?! Light looked startled, he got out of the hospital bed and looked around for his death note. "Ryuk! ..Where is it..wheres my book?" Light started sweating, impatiently pulling things apart around the room, he then looked under the bed. "..You just never quit do you.." Ryuk sighed at the other as he pulled the book from his pocket waving it in front of Light, "..You dropped it when you fainted."

 

Light snatched it from Ryuk's hand, looking around for a pen, he found one in his pocket, without hesitation he wrote the man's name down in the book. he was too happy and relieved. he waited a couple of seconds before watching the English man have a heart attack on live TV. His lips curled into an evil grin.

L's pale lips twitched as if he was about to smirk, but no emotion appeared on his face. He leaned forward in his chair and grabbed the laptop sitting on the coffee table in front of him. His fingers quickly started typing while Watari set up a microphone and the device that would mask his voice. The image of the dead man on the screen vanished, replaced by the old English font L with a white background. "A bit eager, aren't you, Kira?" he almost purred into his headset, gleefully imagining the look of rage that would appear on the unknown man's face. "Mere seconds after announcing this man's name, he dies of a heart attack. I think this is the proper time to tell you that the man you just killed was not the rapist."

Light's eyes widened as he spit out the beverage he was drinking, nearly choking on it. He tried to breath, gasping for air. He couldn't believe his ears. He became outraged and flipped the eating tray that the nurse served him. "What did that bastard just say..?" Light became pissed and jumped out of the bed as he stared at the TV screen. I recognize that voice.. Is that L?! "That fucking BITCH!" Light shouted, he realized L was pulling the same trick before. And he fell for it again. "If its the last thing I do...I Will Kill Him..." He bawled up his fist leaving a massive hole in the wall, he screamed, he must of broken his hand.he was so angry he didnt know what he might do. He wanted to kill somebody. While all of this was going on it was amazing that no nurse or doctor had came in to check on the teenager..

 

Ryuk then watched as Light tried opening up the window. He just wanted to get out of there. Ryuk opened it for him knowing Light must of broken his hand. The nurse had told him earlier that he needed more rest because he took a pretty hard fall. Light had bandages wrapped around his head. He didnt care, he wanted to get L back, he didnt know how he would but he was goin to. He leaped out the window, his feet hit the ground. Closing it, he walked back home from the hospital with Ryuk. When the nurse figured out that Light was gone she panicked, knewing it was her job to watch him and she failed. She did her job poorly, but she contacted his parents and reported that he was missing.

 

Soichiro had seen the broadcast as well knewing Kira had to be frustrated. He then got a call about his son waking up in the hospital and then disappearing. He didnt understand that, he had just seen him earlier before coming back to work. He was so upset, he wasted his coffee on the floor. he lost his daughter and now he felt he was about to lose his son. Light had been worrying him a lot lately. Especially since he would never come out of his room. He didnt blame Light, if he ran away because of his sister. he knew the family was taking it hard that there child was dead. The older man looked stressed and one of his close coworkers asked him if he was alright, remembering that he had lost Sayu. He explained the situation to him before immediately leaving after seeing L broadcast that message to Kira. It drove Soichiro and his mother crazy when they arrived and they couldnt figure out what happen to Light. They mainly shamed the nurse for not checking on him more. He called his son's cellphone, hearing it ring underneath the bed sheets, he picked it up seeing his son left it. He then tried to think, the hospital wasnt that far from Light's house so he figured he might of just walked home. Sochiro sighed hoping that he did and drove home with his wife to check and see.

L debated on whether or not to say more, but he was ninety-five percent sure that the revelation would have Kira so rattled that he would stop watching the television. The broadcast was cut short and the great detective settled down into his chair, head tilted to the side as he considered his options. After falling for the same trick twice, there was no doubt that Kira would be out for revenge. His pride wouldn't allow for such trickery to be pulled against him. He must have been extremely desperate to kill that man in order to fall for such an obvious lie. Perhaps there's a connection between Kira and the victim? Pale hands quickly returned to the keyboard, and Watari prepared tea for another sleepless night.

Soichiro unlocked the front door entering with his wife, she closed the door behind her. He immediately went upstairs to Light's room to see if his son was alright, "Light..are you in there?" He asked knocking on it, "Its okay if you are.. I'm not mad if yoy ran away from the hospital.." Yet again, there was no answer, "Light..I hope you dont think any of this is your fault.." He said trying to console him, as he knocked again. But he heard nothing..he then let out long sigh. slowly walking back downstairs, figuring Light might come out if he got hungry.

 

Light was in his room with his head down on his desk. Ignoring his father, he thought he might not ever come out of his room after what L did to him. That fucking bastard.. he pretty much broke everything in his room before his parents arrived at the house. He was so pissed, he felt like a fool falling for the same trick twice. I know L is probably laughing at me.. He pulled at his hair in frustration trying to figure how how he fell for such foolishness. Ryuk stared at Light, hes been trying to get his attention for the pass two hours but he wont respond.

 

Ryuk sighed, he was getting bored and feeling negative energy from Light. He didnt mean to be rude but he got distracted by Light's open closet. He looked in it trying to find something he could play with. He grinned once he found a PSP, he sat on the floor playing with it. Light was just thinking.. his mind was gone.. I lost her to that monster.. He hit his head on the desk, remembering it clearly. It was 10 years ago, Isabel, his best friend, she was 2 years younger then him. He met her at the hospital when he was sick.. She was best thing that ever happened to his childhood. He remembered waiting for her to get released from the hospital. When she did they went to school everyday together. Until one day she didnt show up.. ..She wasnt even out that long and he fucking killed her. Why did they let him out..? He slammed his fist on his desk making Ryuk jump and stared at him. He deserves to fucking die! Light wanted to rid the world of evil, so nobody would have to experience losing someone they loved.

 

Light's mother sighed as she found her son's school bag buried in a trashcan. She thought that Light was so upset about his sister that he didnt want to go to school anymore.. Soichiro frowned, he started thinking that maybe his son needed some therapy. Suddenly Light's phone ranged, Soichiro felt it buzz and he looked at it. Misa was calling Light.. However, he didnt give it to him, nor did he pick it up. He knew his son probably didnt want to talk to anyone right now. He would give it to him later. Light wasnt thinking about his phone.. He had forgotten that if he left his phone in the wrong hands it could reveal suspicion about him being Kira, if it was unlocked. Even though Light made Misa feel empty inside, she wanted to call him about his sister. She felt bad, She had not seen him since that time he fainted.

L expertly dug through files of recent rapes and murders of young girls, the age range five through ten. Gray eyes narrowed slightly as the detective stared at the seemingly endless list of names. Even he, one who was hardly fine-tuned to emotions, found this data extremely disturbing. And I have only solved approximately sixty-seven percent of these cases...how disappointing. He reached over to the table next to his chair, picking up a teacup with two fingers and bringing the cup to his lips. Although, because I believe Kira may be a student, I'll most likely have to search farther back in time...

Eventually Light fell asleep on his desk, he stopped muttering to himself. Ryuk sighed a bit feeling bored now, it bothered him how much humans slept. He was wide awake. He stood up putting the PSP in his pocket before putting the other into bed. He then dug into Light's closet looking for something else that could entertain him..

 

It was morning...when Light woke up he groaned rubbing his head. Ryuk was sitting in the corner, chuckling, he had been looking at magazines all night that he found from the others closet. Light was still thinking about last night and tomorrow was Christmas, he didn't care at all.. He just laid back down, sighing and still thinking about the killer, I won't kill anyone else until I find that asshole.. He got out of bed and went to his desk, he sat back down, preparing to stress himself out again. He felt so alone and he was so tired of it.. The only person he ever wanted to be with was his childhood friend. Until this day.. he still wanted her and Misa didn't make things better for him. He didn't care how much she wanted to be there for him..

 

Soichiro was already in the kitchen making coffee. He was getting ready to go out, he knew Light wasn't up yet. He doesn't usually get up early.. He went upstairs knocking on the door, "Light I'm going to work okay?" He then went back downstairs out the door and into his car. He was on the highway, half way to his job. Light's phone wouldn't stop vibrating it drove him crazy. Why does it keep doing that? My phone doesn't even vibrate.. Soichiro looked into his pocket and picked up the phone.. He took it out realizing he forget to give his son his phone back.

 

He sighed, He'll get it later.. it's not like he uses it that much anyway.. Misa wouldn't stop calling and he finally picked it up, "Hi Misa.. Light's at home..'' He coughed a bit trying to drive and speak at the same time, "Why do I have his phone? Long story... I was holding it for him..'' Soon enough he found a parking spot and stepped out of the car, "Uhuh.. uhuh.. yeah.. okay, I'll tell him.. bye.''

 

He placed the phone back in his pocket before going into the building to the 2nd floor and then going to his cubicle.He then thought about something, Soichiro realized Light didn't bother to put a password on his phone. How did he forget to do that..? That's careless..I thought I knew my son better than that.. How did he forget to do something so simple? He thought maybe because Light wasnt as into phones like most of these teenagers these days. He then placed his suitcase down and started to work, sighing a bit. Soichiro realized he didn't have any pens left in his cup.. He looked around everywhere but he could seem to find one and that drove him nuts. So he started pulling things out of his pocket placing it on his desk. Including the phone.. Once he found a pen he started writing. His mind was so gone, probably also stressed out. So he was probably going to forget Light's phone again..

L came up with one report that took place ten years ago in the Tokyo district where he believed Kira to be. A young girl named Isabel had been raped and murdered. If Kira had known her, then he would be a teenager now and attend school...it fits with the information I've already determined to be almost one-hundred percent true, and gives a reason as to why Kira is so determined to bring this man to 'justice'... He then began to search for the people who had lived in the area and still did.

When Light was home by himself, he put his death note into his hidden compartment where you could only see his diary if you opened the drawer. He did this just in case. The other still wanted to get L back badly, he knew at frist he wasn't going to kill anyone else until he got L and the killer. But he thought maybe if he killed someone near L actually, maybe it would bother him a bit. L wanted to pull stuff up from the past and Light wanted to get him back. He tried thinking of something for a while as he chewed on his pencil of how he would do it.

 

He did remember a couple of days before Christmas break that his father was talking in his sleep. I think it was about me? Light remembered walking into the kitchen at midnight and his father had fallen asleep on the couch. He thinks his dad did mention something about a man name Hanyou Wasachi, how they ate together somewhere and how he's great friends with everyone. He also maybe mumbled something about Kira.. He really couldn't remember or put his finger on it. Light just assumed that because Soichiro probably dreamed about Hanyou, maybe he worked with him daily or something. Light did remember that his father did eat in the morning for breakfast at a restaurant sometimes. He didn't think he really went anywhere else during the day to eat. He knows this from his father discussing how his day was at the dinner table or Light would remember his mom make his dad some food for work the day before.

 

He totally forget that his father said such things in his sleep, though during the time Light was half asleep himself.. he was surprised he even remembered that. But then again his father said a lot of things in his sleep that didn't actually happen. The other just had to try and see if this person was real and it was still pretty early. So he stood to his feet and he wanted to focus on killing someone around or close to L now. Since L wanted to play games with him and haunt him about Isabel. But he just wanted to see if he could find Hanyou and then Maybe kill him later. He didn't expect no other place he could be at. Maybe Hanyou tried helping Soichiro with the Kira investigation.

 

"Ryuk.. let's go.'' Light grabbed his jacket before leaving out the door and rushing downstairs.

 

The shinigami dropped the magazine on the floor and quickly flew after Light, "Where are we going?"

 

"You'll see..'' The brown headed male spoke as he headed out the front door.
