SPECIAL CHAPTER

 

Memories..we all want to make as many good ones as we can, but what if the good ones are the ones that hurt the most? Why isn’t it easier to forget?

 

The ocean deep blue eyes were staring at the distance, a tear slipping out of them every so often. The girl seemed not to notice it though, preoccupied with letting her mind wander. The 9th of June..Friday..She was weird the whole day, feeling stressed out and ready to just bury her head in the pillow and cry her heart out. She couldn’t point out why though.

 

She was roused when a shiver went through her. The bath got cold already and Evie was never one to take cold well. She quickly drained the bath, showering herself with hot water to get warm again. It was strangely soothing, like a warm hug.

 

Following her usual routine, she got dressed in what she called pjs but was just an old shirt that was too big for her, applied some body lotion, washed her face, teeth..all the familiar actions seem to calm her down a bit. She was still restless when she made it to her bed. She felt like crying and she kept rubbing her chest.

 

Checking her phone for messages, the date on the screen finally hit her. The 9th of June. She hated this day. The blonde couldn’t held in tears anymore and she just lied there, sobbing. “9 years..it’s 9 years today grandpa..” There was a short pause before three more words were whispered in the dark. “I miss you.”

The girl that they were talking about was the oldest of the kids and she heard what her grandpa and aunt were talking about. She couldn’t help but grin widely at the words, but she pretended like she didn’t hear. She knew she was his favorite, being the first grandchild born to him and he was her favorite too.

 

The kid always followed her grandpa around, learning anything she could from him. He told her stories of the places where he worked, about people, life. Anyone else would say the little girl was too young to understand it, but she remembered everything. Even the curses. Her grandpa was the best at cursing when anything went wrong and she gladly repeated them, making her mom go crazy. It was one of her guilty pleasures.

 

Evie couldn’t help but cry even harder remembering all this. Her grandpa was someone she idolized. He was perfect and loosing him was like loosing a part of her own heart. Even after 9 years, it still hurt, maybe even more now.

 

Another memory resurfaced. Her grandpa caught a mice that was on rampage in the cellar. He planned to kill it, since it was causing damaged but Evie could never see anything get killed. Grandpa tried explaining to her why he needs to do it, but she couldn’t accept it. “The mouse is so small. How could it possibly hurt you grandpa?? How could you kill anything that can’t even defend itself against you? It’s so cruel!” The kid ran away, face covered in tears. Only later did she found out her grandpa let the mouse go. She could always rely on him to consider things that were important to her, even if it caused problems for him.

They were always in some kind of discussion which ended in a ‘fight’, both too stubborn to admit the other might have a point. They happened in the evening and grandpa usually won because Evie had to go to bed. That brought a smile on the blonde’s lips; her grandpa always looked so smug then.

 

Everyone was surprised when there were no tears when the news came. But Evie, she couldn’t cry. She just stared numbly in the distance, spending the day in bed. It couldn’t be true right? Grandpa would never leave her. She refused to go pay the last respects to the body. She couldn’t. Seeing him just lying there, it would confirm that he really is gone and that would hurt too much. They made her go though. She threw up outside after seeing his corpse. They also made her hold the flowers at his grave, so everyone could take one and drop it in as the last goodbye. When the tears came, she couldn’t stop them. Even the disapproval of her family didn’t matter, but the pitying looks of everyone who passed did. They cut right through her, they confirmed he is truly dead. The most important person in her life, gone. Just like that. She knew grandpa would never want her to stand there and be pretty, he never cared for appearances but nothing of that mattered now. He was truly gone. She will never again smelled the pleasant fresh smell of soap he used to wash himself with. Working on a farm, he often got dirty but before playing with his granddaughter, he would always clean himself. His grumpy expression will never again stretch into a smile, his tanned face only a memory now.

 

The blue eyed girl stopped visiting her grandpa’s place after that. It felt so different, so lonely. Too full of memories. Only the occasional visit to her grandma. Evie felt guilty about that but she couldn’t help it. It hurt too much. There was a song that she would play when missing him too much..it was his song.

Would her grandpa still be proud of her? Of the girl she became today? Would he still love her the same? Those were the questions she so badly needed to know the answers to. There were so many things she would want to tell him, share with him, make him proud.

 

We loose people so quickly. Never knowing when it’s coming. Will it be quick? Will we have time to say goodbye? Will we tell them all we want to say? Don’t waste precious moments you have left.

XD Toby seems the innocent guy, who blushes whenever the slightest joke or movement get outside the friendzone. Kinda like you. Now really, Imma stop with this, promise. xD Important to mention is that one can easily tell the story’s gonna be a highschool/childhood romance themed one from the beginning to the end. That’s its best part, between us, I would be freaked out to see later that someone’s growing wings or something and the whole thing turns into a fantasy kind of story, where Toby is a fairy and Liam a dinosaur. However, I don’t know why you were so afraid of falling into the too-typical-plot box‚ cause I saw you adding some elements to avoind making it too typical. (Yes, I read the comments too. And silently judge. xD) You have some great comedy in it,

made my day. The characters preserved the originality of real people. They’re strong willed, open minded, have natural, predictable and unpredictable reactions.

 

In chapter three the reader gets to know some more about characters, esp about Toby who’s, unlike me, a book devourer. xD There are details about his parents and his lifestyle, and also about his friend, Liam. Evie appears while describing Liam as a girl that is not „affected by his charm”, so that’s why Toby likes her. (Peeps here wanna read a blowjob scene, hell I wanna see a threesome with this Evie. Everything was going slow when Toby was involved. He was like a little bunny; you needed to coax him gently and slowly, not making any sudden movements to scare him off. The blue eyed boy stayed silent for a few moments, taking it in. When did he got so willing to do this? Does he really want to do it or he just feel like he has to? Smiling, the older of the two turned to his side and ruffled the brown hair. “It’s ok, I can take care of it later. I’m better at it then you anyway.” When did I get so nice? It was hard to suppress a sigh and laugh instead.

 

“But..what if I want to do something?” Toby was calm for the first time, talking about this casually, which surprised Liam. “You want to satisfy me?” His voice was full of doubt. “Yes. I don’t know what to do though.” The blush returned to the cute boy’s cheeks. It seemed that doing something so intimate made him a bit more comfortable about everything.

 

I guess I’m not that nice after all.. Liam thought when an idea stroke him. Maybe this is my lucky day. “There is something that you could do for me..if you’re prepared to do it.” He was quiet for a moment, to create a bit of tension. “Are you Toby?”
