Hideki smiled and shrugged.

"Well… they're all older than me, so it's really them who've been taking care of me." He admitted, though he was glowing from the compliment.

"Oh… four, huh? Yeah… you know, psychologists have done studies about kids and grieving, and how until a certain age, the idea is too abstract so we don't see typical mourning patterns in young kids." Hideki stated. He had been very interested in how people grieve when he was younger, since when something bad happened to him, everyone seemed to expect him to behave or feel a certain way, or else they seemed really worried- so he thought something was wrong with him.

"Okay, don't worry. I'll never mention it again," Hideki promised him, though now he was feeling excited about meeting Yukio's parents- that seemed like a big step. Should that come before or after showering together?

Yukio lifted his shoulders, then let them drop again lazily. "I don't know. I am not very good at psychology." After the micro was done, he opened its door and pulled the rice out. "Can you put the next one in?" He asked Hideki, walking to the table to put the container on it there. He opened both containers, then went to the other side of the kitchen. Opening some drawers, he collected knives, forks and spoons, which he placed onto the tabletop also. "Have you got some dessert as well? If not, we've got some cake left. It's a chocolate cake with strawberries." Yukio liked strawberries -- a lot.

"That's okay. I'm not as brushed up on it as I used to be," Hideki alleged. "And sure," He placed the next container into the microwave, setting it for a minute and a half- it'd need to be stirred and put in again after that. Hideki licked a bit of sauce that was on his thumb.

"And no… we didn't make any desert, but that cake sounds really good!" He replied, smiling. "Did you make it?" he inquired.

"..." Yukio crossed his arms, a slight red glimmer on his cheeks. "I was bored, okay?" He snorted, looking away. He wasn't great at cooking, but he had found an old book about 'how to make a cake right'. And there was mostly everything one needed to cook in this kitchen, hidden anywhere in any cupboard or drawer. Or in the second fridge.

Hideki's grin spread over his face.

"Wow, that's really neat!" Hideki announced. "I had to have my sisters help out whenever I want to cook something, so doing it on your own is really, really impressive!" He declared. "Maybe on our next date, you could show me how to cook one, too." Hideki suggested, shrugging. The microwave beeped, and Hideki took out the container.

"I need to borrow this spoon," He said, taking one that Yukio had taken out, and stirred it up, before putting the food back in the microwave, putting it in for another minute and a half.

"Date?" His 'question' got lost as Hideki was busy with preparing the food and putting it back into the micro. Was he seeing this as a date? What a strange guy.

Wait. Or had it been a date all the time and he, Yukio, just hadn't gotten it when he had agreed to it?

Possible as well. No he felt like an idiot.

"I am still not good at cooking, I'd burn the kitchen down."

Hideki took out the container a second before the time was up- since he hated the loud beeping sound- and set up the next container in the microwave.

"That's fine," Hideki shrugged, and smiled. "We can come up with something else! Like go to a restaurant, or something. Oh! Do you want to spend the night with me next time?" Hideki offered. It wasn't as big or as nice as this, plus it was kind of full, with him, his sisters, and his oldest sister's husband all living together, but even then, he would make sure Yukio was comfortable and have a good time.

Yukio's so darn cute I can hardly stand it >D

"I think restaurant is enough, to be honest," Yukio said slowly, studying Hideki up and down. He wanted to find a sign of sarcasm but he knew that his classmate wasn't good with that 'language'. He proved it many times himself.

Yukio shook his head. Whatever. "How about we enjoy the evening and the night", what sounded extremely perverted, what he noticed right now, "and don't worry about the future?"

How is he cute Q_Q

Hideki nodded in agreement.

"Okay," He was thinking of restaurants Yukio might like, when Yukio told him not to worry about the future.

"Ah, sorry! You're right… I'm just really happy to be here with you." The microwave beeped, surprising Hideki a bit, and he jumped, turning around and pulling the hot container from the microwave. He figured just heating up the soup next would be enough for the two of them, for now, so he placed that in the microwave next. This would need some stirring, as well, though.

Hideki turned to face Yukio, a light blush on his cheeks, and helaced his fingers together in front of him nervously. "And… since we're alone, it's okay to tell you now that I like you, right?"

He's such a hard person, but his soft moments are so precious! Just now, he had a moment of "Haha, he thinks this is a date, what a doofus. Wait… is this a date? Am I the doofus?!" which is really funny and cute to me ^^

Hm. Even if Hideki actually had told him about his 'liking' towards Yukio already, and also said he would do it when they were alone before, Yukio was pretty surprised by Hideki's question. The grey-haired teen leaned back against the counter, his eyes narrowed on the brunette.

"...yeah, it's okay." His tone was a bit mistrusting, yet he was sure it wouldn't make Hideki feel uncomfortable or insecure. Hell, the taller one looked nervous already anyway. The situation was just a bit awkward.

Yeah... that's Yukio ^°^.

Hideki smiled broadly, and tilted his head a bit.

"Well, I like you a lot, Takagawa-kun!" He announced, and chuckled a little. "I know I said it before… and it's out of order to go on a date then say it… but I'm still happy I got to say it again when we're alone." He admitted, shifting his weight from one foot to the other.

"So thank you."

Wait... He was thanking him because he could tell him that he liked him when they were alone?

Yukio looked at the brunette in some disbelief, not heavy disbelief but still disbelief.

"I am sorry to tell you that, Kanada-san, but you are an idiot." Straight into the face, but that was what Yukio was like. He didn't feel like asking Hideki whether he felt a bit idiotic or telling the brunette anything 'romantic', no he felt like letting him know what an idiot he were.

Nice, but hell, Yukio also felt like an idiot. It was fair.

Hideki's smile drooped slightly, and his eyebrows pinched upwards in a bit of a confused expression.

"I'm sorry, I don't really get it…" He told Yukio. "But what is it that makes me an idiot?" He asked, his shoulders slouching a bit. He had been told that more than enough times, and anytime he asked, people would shrug him off, and not answer, so he rarely asked. But he had just told Yukio that he liked him, that he was happy… that was important to him. Why was he an idiot, then?

"You can answer that… right?" He murmured unconfidently.

Yukio sighed deeply, crossing his arms lazily in front of his chest. He looked to the side, then back up at the brunette. "You are," he began, "a loving, caring, emotional person. Every girl in school would love to be your girlfriend because of these parts of your personality. The only thing nobody gets about you is why you just tell what you think and feel, including confessing feelings to someone in public...

But all in all you are an idiot. Just ... choosing someone like me. Someone who uses to kid you and is sarcastic around you all the time in school. I simply don't get you, Kanada-san. I don't get why you do what you do and why you think what you think and how nice and caring you are." All what only a few people were. Hideki was one of a thousand, and special. But Yukio wouldn't tell him that just like that.

Hideki's mouth became slightly agape, and the blush in his cheeks became more intense.

'I-is… is that really how he feels about me…?' His head was swimming with Yukio's words. They were compliments… but they made him idiotic? But Yukio's tone was different from usual, it didn't sound like he was complimenting or insulting him. No… what made him an idiot was liking Yukio?

He smiled warmly.

"You say that… like I'm a confusing person." Hideki mused. "Actually, I think everyone else is so complicated, they all seem to have secret rules on how to act with each other. When to say what and when it's not okay to say something, even if you feel it, even if it bothers you not to say it…" He shrugged.

"I don't really understand, and no one can really explain it to me." He noted. "And… you're different. You don't seem to really follow any of these rules, either."

"Also, I don't really know why I like you, either." Hideki admitted, shrugging. "Maybe it's because you're special. Unlike me, when you break the rules of what to say and do, other people respond negatively, and you still say and do the same things, because I think you're really honest with yourself. I don't always understand it… but you don't understand me either, and that's okay. That's part of a relationship, I think."

The microwave beeped, but Hideki ignored it, and stepped a little closer to Yukio.

"I just like you because you make me happy, Takagawa-kun. Really, really happy." Hideki laughed. "And if that's what it means to be an idiot, you can call me that everyday!"

"..." Yukio sighed, then nodded. "Yes, Idiot." He passed Hideki by and opened the microwave. He pulled the container out and placed it onto the table. "How many do we still need to warm up?" He asked. "Can you do that? I will get the cake." And before the brunette could say anything, Yukio had already walked through the archway and along the corridor. He followed the stairs up and stood in another corridor, which was held in green and white, creating a nice atmosphere. Three doors were on the left side, large windows on the right one. At the end of the corridor was also a door, but it wasn't white like the others but slightly beige with a nicely golden painted handle.

Yukio went to the second white door and opened it, entering a cool room with a fridge, a washing machine, a dryer and a large mirror. Some old looking dressers were standing on the walls, and a big finished puzzle glued to a cardboard hung on the wall. The teen walked to the fridge, opened it and took a box out. He closed the fridge's door by pushing his hip against it.

Something told him that this evening would be priceless - the question was: negatively or positively?

This time when Hideki heard the word "idiot", his heart filled with joy, and he covered his mouth to keep his smile hidden until after Yukio had passed him. He chortled a bit, as he stirred up the soup. This meant Yukio had accepted his feelings, right? Hideki figured it wasn't a problem for Yukio, since he agreed to spend time together, but to have confirmation of it felt really good! He was elated now. The soup was warm enough, he decided, and he closed the microwave door.

It dawned on him, though… was Yukio happy? He had been so preoccupied with how happy he was, and how glad he was to spend time with Yukio, that he never thought to ask him if he was happy… he could just be incredibly nice and putting up with him.

'I've been selfish…' Hideki scolded himself mentally. 'I will ask him when he comes back with the cake…' He decided. There was no reason he couldn't start being more attentive now...

  • 2 weeks later...

Yukio re-entered the kitchen with the box with the cake inside in his hands. He went over to the table and put it down there. "Is everything warmed up? Do you like music? I can turn on the radio." He said, then looked over at Hideki. He looked a bit ... thoughtful at the moment.

"Ah, yes, it's all done." Hideki told him, smiling. His eyes fell on the box in Yukio's hands. 'That must be the cake!' The thought, thrilled at the idea of eating something Yukio put so much effort into making.

"Music? Yeah, that sounds good to me, we'll watch the movie after we eat!" He said. "Hey, Takagawa-kun, you're happy, right?" He asked, centering all the heated food together. "I mean, are you having fun… with me?"

(Mine's short, too ;^; And late... Sorry, my semester just started :o)

He blinked at the question and tilted his head to the side. After thinking about the words, he drove a hand through his bangs, signing his confusion with a shrug. It was a weird but logical question. After all ... Hideki had something left for him, Yukio.

"Well, of course I do. Otherwise I would've thrown you out already. You are quite entertaining. It's better than being alone," he finally answered. With one step backwards, Yukio leaned against the fridge next to him. His eyes took note of Hideki's every change in his face. His answer had sounded cold, even if he hadn't meant it to be.

Hideki smiled, his shoulders rising a bit.

"Ah… good, good!" He replied. So Yukio thought he was entertaining… and he didn't like to be all alone. So he wasn't imposing himself, Yukio enjoyed having him there? He felt his smile grow wider.

"I'm really happy, too." Hideki said, looking back up to Yukio against the fridge. "I'm having a lot of fun here, with you." He stepped a little closer to him, his fingers laced between each other in front of him.

"And if you ever feel alone, just call me and I'll be over right away, okay?" Hideki told him. "So long as you have my number, I don't want you to ever feel alone."

Yukio watched Hideki stepping closer, obviously trying his best to make him feel comfortable.

"Sure," the smaller one shrugged. "Don't worry." He pushed himself off the fridge and pointed at the food on the table. "Should we eat now or is there something else you want to discuss?"

Hideki's eyebrows raised, and he looked to the table.

"Oh! Yeah, sorry, we can eat now!" Hideki replied, nodding. "I didn't meant to keep us from eating." He said, and walked to the table, looking at the heated food. Then he looked up at Yukio again, and his eyes fell to his lips… he wondered if they would kiss again that night… his cheeks flushed a bit.

"Alright, you take what you want first," He stated, looking back down at the table.

He nodded and walked over to the table, taking a seat. Stretching out his arm he took many noodles onto his dish, then some pieces of the other food. He wasn't choosy, he wanted to taste most.

After his dish was full, he set it back down in front of him and waited for Hideki to fill his own. "Do you want knife and fork also?" He asked, though, nodding at the chopstick.

Hideki watched Yukio fill his place with noodles and samples of the others. Once Yukio was finished, Hideki picked up his own plate and began placing food on his own plate, taking half the yakisoba-pan, and a large helping of unadon. He filled a small cup with the soup to go with it.

"Ah, no, I'm fine, thanks." He replied, and smiled. "I hope you like it, my sisters worked really hard to help me make it." Hideki told him. "If it was just me making it, I wouldn't be able to guarantee if it was good or not," He said with a light chuckle.
