There were several things Yammichi Aki hated about Math class.

The first one was that you weren't allowed to eat in class. If that alone wasn't enough to drive a person mad, he didn't know what was. He had read some where that reading and learning exhausts the brain and causes a person to be hungrier than usual. And Aki was always hungry so that 'than usual' was not very fun to be honest.

The second one was that Math was ALWAYS first period and Mr. Kyo was a complete hard ass who punished Aki severely when he was late- which, just like the before mentioned hunger, was pretty much always. Not that he did it on purpose- his mom had told him lateness was in his genes. Granted, he hadn't really understood what lateness would be doing in his jeans at the time- he was six, give him a break already!

Lastly, he hated Math class because Toyotomi Kurohiko was in his class. Aki had never spoke two words with the guy himself, but he didn't have to, because with his semi-long brown hair, piercings, and icy blue eyes that made him seem completely unapproachable and good looking, it was pretty much obvious. Toyotomi Kurohiko was...completely and utterly awesome. It was rumoured that the guy had a tattoo of Chuck Noris on his chest and hardly spoke besides Basketball and Art club. In fact, the only person he had actually been seen hanging out with willingly was his twin brother- Tamaki-san. The fact that he basically towered over the class with his 6'4 frame helped as well.

He. Was. So. Cool.

It completely got on his nerves. How could Kuroshiko-san be so completely and effortlessly awesome where he had to put so much effort into it and ended up looking like a complete dork any ways.

Aki's fist clenched beneath the desk and he looked passively out the window, determined to befriend the boy and be just as cool!

Unbeknownst to him, a couple of girls in the class edged away from him as he gave off a weird aura of determination out of no where, one thought in all their minds, Aki is so weird.

Kurohiko had so much to do in both school and at home.

Kurohiko had grades he had to keep up and sports to be good at. He was always stressed the hell out and never even thought about making friends. A lot of the adults always thought he was a good kid, but, the light never shone on his second life. Both Kurohiko and Tamaki, his best friend and brother, were always having to steal, sell drugs, or beat up people. It was for good cause though. His parents had many loans to pay off and bills to add on top of that. Life was just so hard.

Other than that, things were pretty easy. All he had to do was keep up a good impression...

The bell rang, snapping Aki out of his thoughts and signalling the beginning of lunch. His eyes zeroed in on Kurohiko and he decided to take the chance to introduce himself to this scary-looking boy before he left for lunch.

He got up abruptly and walked over to Kurohiko's desk before giving him a wide smirk that was so out of place on his plain face, it made him look more ridiculous than cool. Aki managed to bring his frame- which was tiny in comparison to Kurohiko's- up a little by straightening his back.

"Kurohiko-san," Aki began, making his voice deeper than it actually was, "let's fight."

Inwardly, Aki was doing a victory dance, not really realizing that challenging someone to a fight isn't a good way to make friends. Growing up, his dad and him always got into fights, and he slowly put punching each other in the face and hurting each other in the same category as friendship.

The entire class was silent, watching Kurohiko in anticipation, wanting to know his reaction.

"Let's fight!," kurohiko looked up at the on who addressed him. Kurohiko exchanged glances with his brother then stood. Putting one hand in his pocket, using the the other to pick up his notes, he walked past his challenger. "You should watch who you pick fights with," kurohiko's voice was deep and husky. Tamaki smiled at his brothers challenger," maybe next time." Tamaki followed after his brother.

Aki grit his teeth, a wave of annoyance washing over him- so he was going to play it like that? He ignored Tamaki and glared at Kurohiko as he walked away.

"What," Aki snapped at their backs in his normal voice, losing the dramatic pose, "scared you'll lose?"

If there was one thing that Aki hated, it was being ignored. Sure, it may sound whiny or childish, but he hated it when people thought he wasn't even worth the effort to insult- that hurt more than getting punched in the face and dammit, his pride was hurt!

"I see," Aki continued recklessly, "I see how it is. You're not all that then? Nothing but a coward!"

Aki regretted letting his anger take a hold of him, he hadn't understood why it had gotten to this point. He wanted a friendly brawl, where he and Kurohiko would bond and become friends. Aki just wanted to come to Math class one morning- on time for once! -and not have to see that insufferable look in Kurohiko's eyes. Like his entire family had been murdered. It was never in his nature to let people hurt and not do anything about it.

Kurohiko stopped in his tracks. He didn't like the name "coward". "...........meet me at the roof top," kurohiko cleft the class room, Tamaki right beside him. "Are you cranky today?," Tamaki nudged his brother. ".....," kurohiko remained silent, letting Tamaki know that he was NOT in the mood. Kurohiko headed straight for the roof top. Once there, he sat and waited for his challenger to arrive...

Aki froze for a moment at the taller boy's tone before relaxing his expression into a passive one. The class was silent and it was only when Kurohiko left that everyone else also began to go about their own business, whispering about the fight that was going to take place at the rooftop.

Aki turned and walked out the door, taking his sweet time going to the roof top, walking each step with a sort of determined aura around him. He stopped in front of the door that led to the rooftop, where he knew his opponent was waiting for him and took a deep breath.

He entered, eyeing the brown-haired classmate cautiously. A thunk was heard as he dropped his bag to the ground and Aki took his shirt off as well- blood was hard to get out, okay?!

Entering the basic defence stance, Aki directed a glare at Kurohiko, "Give me the best you got Gigantor."

Kurohiko eyed his opponent. " I don't go well with name-calling. I won't hold back," kurohiko stood, calm and poised. Okay, he was alittle pissed for no reason, most likely because he didn't get enough sleep last night. Normally, kurohiko wouldn't accept un-necessary fights like this, unless it was serious or something. kurohiko waited for his opponent to take the first shot.

Aki snorted a little, eyes dancing with mirth. "Really? You're like six feet of terror and you say no to name calling? It's kind of funny when it comes out of your mouth when you have a scary expression like that on. Any ways, it doesn't matter. Friends can call each other names, right?"

Not allowing Kurohiko to answer right away, Aki dove in for the first blow, throwing a sloppy fist at his face.

Kurohiko remained calm as the other dove towards him. His opponent threw a sloppy punch for his face and with ease, he dodged it. Kurohiko then took hold of the other's arm, fling him easily to the side. "Che," Kurohiko spat.

Aki winced as he managed to land on his hand, causing further pain to the already abused arm and scraping it. Tsk. How lame. Aki felt a sense of rage course through his veins, igniting a sense of adrenaline in him, as Kurohiko's patronizing tone entering his field of hearing.

Getting up, he threw a sharper, more agile punch at the boy, and although the technique was still sloppy, it was improving. He did a feint and switched angles rapidly. In the end, the movement that was meant to be fluent was awkward and stiff. Better than the first punch, but barely.

Kurohiko noticed the boy's quick improvement. He had to be quicker. But that wasn't gonna happen. Before he knew it, he felt the other's fist land on his face. Kurohiko stood in silence For a moment. The kid actually landed a punch!

The sound of flesh hitting flesh as Aki's fist landed on Kurohiko's right cheek reverberated across the silent rooftop. A sense of satisfaction and accomplishment filled him. He had landed a hit!

"You give up yet?" Aki asked, and despite the seriousness of the situation, he smiled very brightly at the other boy, his anger replaced only by a sense of excitement and anticipation. This was fun! Much funner than when him and his dad fought! He always had gotten his butt kicked.

"Che," kurohiko scoffed," unfortunately for you, I'm just getting started." Kurohiko was serious now. There was no holding back. With one swift movement, kurohiko collided his fist with the other's stomache.

Aki coughed, a small trickle of drool leaking out of the corner of his mouth, before dropping to his knees, having the wind knocked out of him. He laughed a little before wiping his mouth. Kurohiko had been holding back. The fact that he hadn't even known he was holding back was impressive.

Aki quickly got back up again, the pain reduced to a dull throb- stomach punches never hurt as much as they should, especially when you were muscular. Years of instinct from numerous friendly brawls kicked in and Aki twisted, placing his feet in a firm position as not to fall from the momentum, before throwing a right upper cut at Kurohiko's jaw.

Mid punch, Aki hesitated- was he in the right position? What if Kurohiko dodged it, his left side would be vulnerable. Worse, what if he succeeded, a punch like this could potentially break someone's jaw -making it loose some of it's momentum. That was always a problem of his. He always thought too much.

" don't let me down now kid," kurohiko growled noticing the hesitation. Kurohiko took a step back and puched the boy in his face. Fully pissed now, kurohiko decided to end this. Kurohiko punched the boy again and another followed. He continued that pattern in rapid pace. Changing it up abit, kurohiko added an upper cut, then finished it with a kick.

"Don't let me down now kid."

Before Aki could protest that he was not a kid, thank you very much, he was attacked in a rapid succession of punches and kicks. He was thankful for the cold stone floor beneath him, as it served to sooth his burning wounds as he laid on the floor, face down.

"B-bastard," Aki said, spitting out a glob of blood and not moving from his position on the floor, "is th-that all you got?"

He raised his trembling body to his hands and knees and looked at him. There was no way he was getting back up from those blows, and the both of them knew it. Aki's muscles tensed and his adrenaline was slowly dying out.

"Asshole, idiot, baka, bastard," Aki continued, refusing to give in despite the pain that was flaring through every inch of his body, "you think this is enough to stop me? I won't stop until I die dumb ass!"

Kurohiko stared down at the determined boy. "Che," kurohiko made his way towards the door," this has gone far enough." Kurohiko left the rooftop to join his brother, who was flirting with a group of girls, for the last minute of lunch. Tamaki's attention was now on his brother, "whoa, kuro, you have a bruise on your face. What the hell happened up there?"

Kurohiko looked over at his brother, as he felt up the bruise on his face. A smile crept across his face as he chuckled. "K-kuro...are you okay, man, you're scaring me here," Tamaki furrowed his brows in confusion

"Hey idiot! Where do you think you're going?!" Aki shouted at Kurohiko's retreating back only for him to be ignored.

"Che," Aki mocked, "che, che, che. So patronizing." Aki fell back to the floor, his arms no longer supporting him. "Damn," he swore, before forcing himself in a sitting position. Before he could properly re-orient himself, Maki- Aki's best friend who's name happened to rhyme with his yes, yes, congratulations on figuring out, have a cookie -came bursting through the doors.

"Aki," she exclaimed, "what the hells been going on you teme?! I just heard from Hana-chan that you were fighting Toyotomi Kurohiko up here. Is that why you weren't waiting for me in front of my class at lunch?! What the hell were you thinking?! I know you always joked about fighting him, but I didn't think you were actually going to do it baka!"

Aki winced as his best friend nagged him before brightening. "Wait, so Hana-chan was talking about me?! What did she say?" He giggled, a slightly pervy blush on his face. Hana-chan was the cutest in his class after all!

Maki bumped him over the head with her fist. "Dumbass! Is that all you heard?!" Her annoyed expression turned into a worried one. "Seriously Aki, this isn't like you. You only pick fights with people who deserve it. And you know the rumours around that Toyotomi boy."

Aki's expression turned a bit serious and Maki felt herself tense. Aki only turned serious on very rare occasions, but when he did, he usually had something important to say.

"I had to fight him, otherwise how could we be friends?" Aki said calmly, the image of Kurohiko ingrained in his mind.

"Okay," Maki stated slowly, like she was talking to someone particularly challenged, "and how does fighting entail being friends."

Aki shrugged. "It's a guy thing Maki. When two men fight, we become equals and in the moment before the winner deals his final blow, destroying his opponent, he falls in love with him. That's what my dad always says. If you want to get to know a guy, fight him."

Maki sighed, pushed back her short, brown hair in annoyance. "Men, I'll never understand it. Come on dumbass, I'll take you to the clinic."

Aki threw a peace sign out her, sticking his tongue out in a moe pose before declaring proudly, "Actually, I think I have some broken ribs. Make that the hospital."

Maki hit him over the head again, exclaiming, "Dumbass! Say that in the first place!"

It was the end of luch and kurohiko was heading off to art class. The fight earlier still plagued his mind. Come to think of it..he thought it was pretty fun. He never though he could ever have a moment like that. The kid fought with such determination. Kurohiko could sense the spirit and inner strength that his opponent possessed.

Kurohiko sat down at his desk, still lost in his thoughts. The other students stared and whispered amongst themselves. It wasn't normal for kurohiko to be so zoned out. It was until the bell rung that kurohiko snapped out of his thoughts. The teacher then made her way to the front of the classroom,"Okay, students! I have a lot to grade so you guys can a have the rest of the period to draw or paint!" The class became full of talk again as students chatted or did what they wanted.

"And that's why I'm in the hospital," Aki told his parents, rubbing his head sheepishly and laughing.

His dad, a very muscle-inclined, short man, nodded seriously. "I understand."

Aki and his mom looked at him in surprise. "You do?" they asked simultaneously in surprise. "What do you take me for," he seethed, "even I can get something simple like this! Aki's an idiot, right?"

His mom nodded in relief, "Oh sweetie, you do understand." Both of them ignored Aki's objections. His parents talked to him for a bit longer- well, mainly scolded him, before being made to leave by one of the over bearing nurses as visiting time was over. Aki sighed, laying on his bed sullenly. The hospital was keeping him in for one night for 'observation' before letting him out.

That sucked, it meant he couldn't even skip school tomorrow. Aki smiled brilliantly as he remembered Kurohiko's face. At least he had that to look forward to. They had fought and now they were friends, it was as simple as that.

Aki dozed off, with a smile on his face.

Kurohiko headed home with Tamaki after visiting the drug store after school earlier on. Once they got of reach of the house, the familiar bickering voices could be heard. "We should stay outside where it's safe for now," Tamaki cringed when glass shattering was heard. It was always like this. Kurohiko's parents always fought, mainly because his mom and his dad were forced to marry, and secondly about the large abou of money meant to be paid.

Kurohiko sat on the sidewalk, Tamaki following, as furniture was being thrown out the window

Aki ran furiously, his legs aching tortuously underneath him. I...must....carry on. No matter how much pain he was in, if he didn't keep pushing forward, he'd die for sure.

He pushed his body further, not relaxing his posture for a second, wiping off a sheen of sweat that had gathered on his forehead. Only a little further! He just had to push on a little more and he'd be safe!

Aki made it!

"Whoop, whoop!" he cried out cheerfully, ignoring the strange looks he got from the student council representative as he managed to squeeze through the gate before she could close it, "I'm not late! Mr. Kyo can't punish me!"

Relaxing and smiling, Aki put his hands in his pockets and walked away as though he hadn't been running furiously a couple of seconds ago. It didn't matter even if he was late, he decided, it was a good day. And just like that, as he willed it to be, it was.

Aki entered the classroom, noticing they still had five minutes until Math Class before whooping once more in excitement as he spotted Kurohiko.

"Kurohiko-Swan~

Then he remembered how uncool he was being so instead he pulled a serious expression and made a dramatic pose, "What I meant to say was, doesn't the wind feel uneasy today my comrade? There must be something amiss."

His inner-Maki made an exasperated sound.

Kurohiko flinched as a familiar voice brought him back to reality. "Kurohiko-San~

Kurohiko could not believe what was going on. First the kid wanted a fight then he wanted to all friendly and crap?! Oh, ho, ho. NOT today!

"Fuck off, kid," kurohiko growled

"Fuck off, kid," the tall, dark, mysterious teenage boy growled. Let's repeat that, growled. If this was a cheesy romance novel and he was a teenage girl, he might have fallen in love.

A small part of his brain told him that the proper way to react to this situation was walk away awkwardly and forget about it. But then, the other part of his brain that should hold no place in his brain at all because, really, that part was a fucking retard, told him that no, you know what we should do? Bribe him with the desert our mom packed. Food solves everything. You can't hate a guy who gives you candy, right? And weren't parents always saying stuff about accepting candy from strangers.

So yes, in response to Kurohiko's annoyance, he shuffled through his bag quietly, and took out a chocolate bar, sliding it over to him 'discreetly' and giving him a wink before leaning back in the chair.

"Don't even worry about it frie-" Aki's declaration of friendship was cut off as a white board eraser was thrown at his head roughly.

"Aki," Mr. Kyo said pleasantly while smiling and revealing in the pain of the thousand souls he consumes a day, "please go back to your seat."

All eyes were on him and Aki flushed in shame as some snickers resounded across the class room before pouting and going back to his seat. "Damn old man, wasn't even late this time and he still punishes me," he muttered.
