Echo can be oblivious about a lot of things, especially others feelings towards him and while he is hesitant to let people near him at first, once he opens up and gets to know a person he is very trusting and will never doubt that person. Echo glanced around nervously as he crept through the forest. Every rustle, every snap of a twig made him jump a foot in the air. He couldn't help but be skittish. He was in dragon territory after all. Another twig snapped and he froze, breath halting in his chest. He contemplated turning back but his little brother's pale face flashed before his eyes and he took a deep, steadying breath. He couldn't give up now, Danny needed this medicine! No one else in the underground was willing to rick going this far into dragon territory so it was up to him.

"People die all the time. Just think, when Daniel passes he won't be suffering in this godforsaken world any longer."

Echo clenched his small hands into fists. He knew the Chief of their compound men't to be reassuring but it only made Echo all the angrier. He had even said when Daniel died, not if. Everyone had already given up hope that the little boy would survive but not him! He refused to let his brother die. Now, that run down store had to be around here somewhere. At least, if the map he had nicked from the Chief's office was correct it should be. He sighed and leaned against a tree, tipping his head back to stare at the leaves above him.

Personality

Arumi usually acts cold and uninterested. Deep down he's very gentle and kind but his surroundings have pushed him to hide that part of himself. He spends as much time as possible alone and in the forest. He is very protective of those hr cares about. But he doesn't really care about anyone anymore. He's not shy but has become apathetic and doesn't voice his opinion in issues because it doesn't seem to matter. His family is well respected but Arumi finds he attention to be annoying.

Other

Has three silver dermal piercings that make a vertical line between his eyes.

The soft ground was shredded as Arumi landed in a grassy clearing. He was supposed to be patrolling for humans, but it felt like such a waste of time. They knew that they would be slaughtered if they emerged from those caves.

He stepped forward, his body shrinking and twisting into his human form. He grabbed the leather bag that had been slung around his neck and threw it over his shoulder. Last time he had gone patrolling he had found some interesting ferns by a stream nearby. This time he planned to examine the plants more thoroughly. It was, in Arumi's opinion, the most productive use of this time.

He stepped softly through the trees, taking care not to startle any animals and keep an eye out for anything interesting that might have happened since he was last in this area

He rested for a moment, closing his eyes. He only allowed himself a moment's respite though. It would be foolish for him to linger here longer than was absolutely necessary. He pushed away from the bark and continued trekking forward, a determined set to his shoulders. He was going to get this medicine or die trying! He unfolded the map and held it up in front of his face, trying to determine where he was. He squinted, wishing he didn't have such a horrible sense of direction. With his sight blocked by the bulky map he failed to see the exposed root sticking out of the ground.

He yelped as he suddenly tumbled forward, map fluttering away and backpack clattering as he hit the dirt. He blinked as he laid there dazed, wondering what just happened. After a few moments he regained his bearings and climbed to his feet, brushing himself off then reached for the map. However just as his fingertips brushed against an edge the wind picked it up and whisked it away.

Echo gasped and gave chase, ducking branches and pushing aside bushes as he rushed after the air-born paper. It finally stopped, caught on a branch of a tree that was near a stream bed. Echo scowled and tried stretched all the way up on his toes but he was still too short to reach the infernal thing. He stared up at his map, wondering if he could climb up there to get it.

Arumi froze for a moment when he heard a voice. It seemed to be in the direction he was already walking in, so he merely quickened his pace. He dodged past bushes and low hanging branches, and skillfully avoided dry twigs and leaves.

As he grew closer to the stream he could pick up the unmistakable scent of a human. He began to move more cautiously, not wishing to give away his position. Finally he could see the human standing by the stream, reaching up towards something in a tree. It appeared to be some kind of paper, a letter? A map? A list? A proposed treaty? Arumi couldn't tell from this distance.

He observed the human with mild curiosity for a few seconds. He didn't personally have anything against humans, it just didn't seem worth his time to argue with any orders to kill on sight. But it also didn't seem to be worth his time to do a full interrogation before killing the human then report back to his superiors with every detail that he learned.

He let out a soft sigh, this human was in the way for his studies of the plants so he might as well at least find out what his goal was. Arumi stepped out of the bushes, letting a few twigs snap loudly under his feet to give the human a slight warning for his arrival. "Do not run human, it would be a waste of energy for us both..." His voice was loud and commanding. "What is your purpose for coming here? You must know that it is forbidden"

Almost...

Almost...

Got it!

Echo, having given up and finally resorted to climbing the stupid tree gripped the map firmly in his fist and smiled in victory. He was clinging to the truck of the tree and had reached out as far as he could. His fingers had missed the paper but after a few moments the map fluttered closer and he was able to grab it. He shifted, keeping his grip on the tree as he looked down, trying to figure out the best way to go about getting down.

It had been easy going up[/u]; going down not so much. He slowly began picking his way down, biting his lip in concentration. Twigs being snapped made his head jerk up and he froze, eyes going wide as he saw the man standing there. His hold on the tree loosened and he yelped as he tumbled to the ground.

Luckily the fall wasn't far and all he had was the wind knocked out of him. He scrambled to his feet after a moment or two and pressed back against the tree as he stared at the man with large blue eyes. He had never seen him before. Was he from another compound somewhere? It would be odd; Echo thought the compound he belonged to was the only one in this area. His eyes got wider when the next thought hit him. If... If this man wasn't from another compound then he...he must be a dragon!

He had heard from the Elders that dragons were able to take on human form but he hadn't realized they really mean't human. Echo had thought that there would be some deformation, like scales or a horn or wings. Something. But this man looked entirely and utterly human. If Echo didn't know every single face in his compound he would have believed this man was apart of it.

Echo dimly realized that he had been asked a question but his brain was too befuddled to form a proper response so he was left staring at the male with wide eyes.

Arumi watched the boy fall with a bored expression. He waited for some sort of reply, but none came. He stepped towards the human, his eyes narrowing as he noticed the expression of shock. It wasn't really any surprise, but Arumi had expected him to either fight or flee.

"Human!" He rose hid voice again. "I asked you a question, what are you doing here?" he stopped just a few feet away. "Are you unable to speak? Or do you choose to stay silent?"

He brushed a thin braid from his face, his piercing silver eyes examining the shorter male. "if you fail to respond then I will have no choice but to kill you..." his voice was cold as he spoke the threat. He only planned to kill this human if he was some sort of threat, otherwise he planned to just ignore him and find a better use for his time.

Echo jumped in fright when the man raised his voice, breaking from the shock-induced trance he had been in. "I-I'm looking f-for medicine...." It was a soft-spoken response but it was the best he could manage when he was cowering in fear against a tree. He didn't know what to do. He sure as hell couldn't fight the male and fleeing would be a slightly better option if not for the fact that he knew he would be caught in a matter of seconds. He was screwed. Royally and utterly screwed. Echo's mind frantically ran around in circles trying to formulate a plan but he came up blank.

"Medicine?" Arumi frowned and stared at the human. He didn't look like he was lying... Arumi sighed softly, the human seemed to be terrified, it was highly doubtful that he would be any sort of threat. "Why are you looking for medicine in the forest? You look perfectly healthy" he sat down on the bank of the stream and opened up his bag. He pulled out the large, leather bound book that he always wrote in and flipped it open to a blank page. "I see no reason to waste energy on killing you, but any other would have no hesitation in ending your life"

"It's f-for my brother. He's v-very ill." Echo answered, hands gripping the front of his shirt nervously. He watched as the male walked over to the stream and sat down, proceeding to pull out a book. Echo was wary. Was this a ploy to get him to let his guard down? He relaxed slightly at the other's next words but he still remained on edge. He didn't know if he could trust this man. But...He hadn't killed him yet and besides, if he wanted Echo dead then he would be dead right now. Seeing his chance Echo began edging away from the tree and towards the undergrowth behind him. If he could slip away without the other noticing then he would be good.

Arumi glanced up as he heard the human walking. He narrow his eyes in a glare at the sight of his retreat. "I assume you are aware that I can easily follow your scent... Sneaking away is pointless, and to be quite blunt it is considerably stupid." he picked up a twig and put the tip in his mouth, using his fiery breath to burn the end to charcoal. He pulled the stick out of his mouth and began to sketch one of the ferns. "I highly doubt that you know this area well, so it could take hours to find your medicine. By that time my shift could end and the others who patrol this area tend to think of a human skull as the highest trophy"

(I am so so so so so so so sorry. I have no excuses for my absence. I just went through of spell of where I didn’t want to rp and then collage started and it got worse. I deeply apologize for just leaving you hanging like that >

Echo froze at the glare directed at him from the dragon, breath halting in his lungs. He clenched his trembling hands into fists, a surge of anger rolling through his at the reptilians’ words. He just wanted him to give up?! Let Danny die?! “I-I know of the dangers but I just can’t give up! Danny needs m-me and no one else will help him.” He said, a small frown marring his soft features. He clenched the map and bag closer, gave the dragon a rare defiant look before bolting into the forest. He knew how stupid that was, fleeing from a predator but damnit if he’s going to just let his brother die!

(it's okay, I've been having really bad insomnia lately so I might be kinda slow to reply too)

Arumi looked up with a frown. For a moment he considered just going back to drawing and ignoring the human, it really wasn't his problem if he got killed... But he soon realized that if someone found out that he had let a human live it could have serious consequences. With a sigh of annoyance the dragon rose to his feet and put his things back in his bag. He shuddered and changed back to his true form before walking after the man. He easily brushed aside branches and quickly grew to him with his own long strides. If this man wouldn't go back to where he came from then Arumi would just have to make sure he got back before his shift was over...

Echo crashed through the undergrowth, breath coming out in pants. He heard a loud crunching noise and risked a glance behind him. What he saw made him stumble and fall to the ground, cutting his hands on sticks and rocks. He lay there in shock, having never seen a real dragon before. He wasn’t in the Guard and so was never allowed outside. Finally his bodies’ instincts unfroze him and he scrambled to his feet, taking off faster than before. He honestly didn’t know where he was running to he just knew he had to get away.

Arumi let out a low, rumbling growl. The dragon bounded forward, tearing a small tree out of the ground to get it out of his way. When he grew close enough to the human he reached out and grabbed him in his palm, his razor sharp claws threateningly close to the human's body. "Stop that" he snarled, a column of smoke rising from his nostrils in his anger at the human. "I have no reason to kill you human" he held the man firmly, waiting until he could be sure that he wouldn't try to run again. "what is it that you're looking for? If another dragon finds you alive then I'll have to deal with their questions"

Echo heard the growl and it sent a chill down his spine. He keep going though he stumbled again at the sound of something crashing to the ground. Suddenly he was plucked from the ground and held aloft, a startled yelp escaping him. He whimpered at the feel of claws so sharp he could be shredded if the dragon so much as twitched a finger. Echo gazed up at the beast with wide eyes, words failing him. His brain stuttered trying to think of a response and finally he managed to stammer out a few words about finding an abandoned drug store that maybe would have medicine.

Arumi stared at him thoughtfully for a moment before setting the human back down on the ground. He easily switched back to his human form and let out a soft sigh. "you just need to go to the place on that map then? Let me see it" He held his hand out for the map. "I'll carry you there... But in exchange I'm going to meet you back in the same place in two and I expect you to bring as many books and papers on your kind as possible." He pushed his hair back. "does that sound reasonable to you?"
