He didn't know why, but he always loved staring out the window, at the places he could no longer go to. He felt like a caged bird, he can flap his wings as much as he wanted, but he could never escape the cage he was put into. He knew it was no ones fault that he was in here, it was uncontrollable what his body would decide to do. He didn't ask to be diagnosed with leukemia. It happened a year ago when he was in college, he kept feeling drowsy and it hurt to walk, he thought it was just fatigue from the rigor of his classes. Until one day he collapsed in class and was hospitalized, it was there the doctors told him about his condition.

He let out a soft sigh and closed his book. He looked up at the clock and realized that it was around the time that the doctors would normally check up on him. He had gotten used to the patterns of things over the course of a year, morning nurses, doctor visits, midnight nurses, treatments, all of the good things. The minute hand moved one more space, the doctor had never been late before to his knowledge, would today be the day?

Eugine let out a quiet sigh as he walked through the hospital halls. This was definitely different.. He'd just transferred hospitals - it seemed that this one was in need of doctors like him. The blond's lips were pursed into a small frown as he nodded at a passing nurse, offering her a small smile before returning to his frown. He wasn't a very... Fun person, let's say. The man was always serious and focused, but calm, and he could calm others down too, most of the time... When he wasn't having some of his troubles, let's call them that.

The doctor knocked lightly on the door one of his new patients was in. "I'm coming inside." He said quietly, his voice clear and calm. As he stepped in, the tall male offered the other a soft smile and closed the door behind himself. "How are you feeling? I'm sorry your usual doctor isn't here. I've been asked to change him." Eugine said quietly as he sat down on the chair next to the bed with a small smile on his face. "Have there been anything bad, or wrong more than always?" He kept his voice calm, soothing and clear. This was how he always talked with his patients... Most of the time, it helped a lot.

When Jadon saw the man walk into his room, he was thoroughly surprised. Why didn't his old doctor tell him that someone would be replacing him? Shouldn't he have the right to know that at least? He could have let him say goodbye.. "I'm fine." The young man said looking away from the new doctor. He didn't know what it was about this guy but he just seemed, odd. Not in a mean way, it's just that he seems...fake. He's talking to me like how one would a child, a soft calming voice, for a person of his age it was almost insulting.

"You don't have to force yourself to talk like that. I'm not so weak that I would freak out if a doctor talked to me like a regular human being." Jadon said exactly what was on his mind, he wasn't fond of sugar coating words and he felt like doctors shouldn't sugar coat things either, unless they were dealing with children. He let out a soft sigh, he was starting to feel nauseous, but with the new medication he is on it's nothing unexpected. "Not really, I just feel nauseous more than usual, my guess is it's because of the medication you guys have me on."

Eugine was genuinely surprised at what he heard. The man pushed up his glasses with a small frown on his face. "I apologize if you dislike my way of talking, but I can assure you, I do not think you're weak." His expression became a bit firmer as he straightened out. "Nauseous?" He asked softly and let out a soft sigh. "This may sound as a weird suggestion, but have you tried eating rice cakes? They should help ease the feeling." As he said that, a small smile appeared on his face.

"Now... Could you tell me about what you used to do with your previous doctor on his visits?" He asked softly as he put away some papers and smiled. "I understand if you feel uncomfortable with me instead of him, but please, give me a chance to help out as well." All the while, Eugine was trying to think of why did his patient find his talking bad. He was so used to this... He couldn't just change it. And in all honesty, he hated children. He'd never work with them.

The doctor was definitely a strange one, considering that his treatment for nausea was rice cakes. "Well doctor I would love to eat rice cakes, but sadly you guys never give them to me to eat. As much as I would love to go down to the store to purchase them I can't." He spoke the truth, no one gave me these rice cakes, and no one comes to visit him, so who exactly could he ask to bring them? He felt a slight frown on his face, he definitely liked his old doctor better.

"I don't know what he would do, he never told me. Isn't it your job to know this information? But if you need to know he would ask me questions, sometimes he'd examine me, or tell me I have to do certain tests. It changed everyday, the only thing that stayed the same was the fact that he'd always be here at one o'clock sharp, every single day." Jadon laid back down into the bed, still feeling nauseous. The last thing he wanted to do was accidentally puke on the new doctor. "Also, he didn't force himself to smile, I don't like pity." It might have been a little mean to tell the doctor this, he was only doing his job, but he hated when doctors wore fake smiles, pretending like everything's going to be okay.

Eugine smiled softly at what he heard and lightly shook his head. "I'll get you some rice cakes if you wish." He said with a soft smile. "And please, cpuld you call me Eugine?" He asked with a warm expression on his face. It was impossible to understand wether it was faked or not... He'd mastered this years ago. Faking emotions and hiding feelings was very useful sometimes.

As Jadon explained what the doctor would do, Eugine nodded slightly. "I just wanted to make sure there were no special things. Sounds like the usual..." The blond said, and once again was shocked by the accusation. "I'm not faking smiles, and I am not pitying you. Jadon, there is no need to make me your enemy... I'll try to get the best for you, okay?" He asked softly and smiled. "Is there anything else you'd like to tell me?" He asked softly, his body relaxed. He could even fool himself...

Jadon felt the corners of his mouth turn to a frown when the doctor told him to call him 'Eugine'. He didn't like calling doctors by their first name, it was just felt so wrong to him. "If I have to I'll call you Doctor Eugine. I don't like calling doctors by their first name, it's like they are trying to make you more comfortable with them. I'm more comfortable with Doctor, but if you insist I can settle for Doctor Eugine." He knew the doctor probably by now thought that he was either ignorant, or demanding, maybe even a mixture of the two, but frankly Jadon could care less. If he had to be caged here, he still should have the right to his own opinion.

Jadon listened to the doctor explain about how he'll try his best for him, and that whole song and dance. To be honest, he had never had a doctor for too long, the main reason is none of the doctors wanted to get too close to him since he was terminal. He liked to think of it as having a pet hamster, if you have the hamster for five years and it dies you are going to be heart broken. But if you give it to your friend after a week and it dies with them, then you're not going to feel too bad. "I'm sure you know why my last doctor left, Doctor Eugine. All you guys are doing is delaying the inevitable, there's no way I'm walking out of here on my two feet. If your lucky a new doctor will replace you soon so you don't get too involved." Jadon knew it was a cruel thing to say, but it was his life he was talking about, and he didn't want anyone to get too attached to him to tell the truth. He liked it better when he was alone.

Eugine smiled when he heard his patient talk and shook his head. "No need, then. If you're more comfortable with calling me Doctor, then so be it." He said calmly. He didn't think of Jadon as ignorant or anything - at least not yet. "But do you mind if I call you Jadon, still?" He asked softly, his eyes warm. He wouldn't like reffering to him as 'patient' or something like that... No, that would be just awfully weird.

A soft sigh left the doctor's mouth at what the other said next. "I refuse to agree. I will not leave until the end." He promised with a frown. "Be it a bad one or a good one, I will stay and give you all my help." The blond said with a slowly blooming smile. "Now, let's get started, shall we?" The doctor was quickly back to his usual collected, calm self as he began asking various questions, gently examined the other's body and everything. At the end of his visit, the blond let out a slightly warmer smile and took his papers, scribbling something down. "Now, if you would wait a little bit, I would get you the rice cakes." He said with a smile as he stood up. "Everything else seems normal; no changes." He added and looked at Jadon with clear, honest eyes. "Is there anything else you need or want?"

A confused look spread upon Jadon's face when Doctor Eugine asked if he could call him Jadon. "...Of course you can...I'm not the one with a PhD." He mumbled slightly, confused at why a doctor would ask that, if we wasn't going to call him Jadon then what was he going to call him?

He felt himself pout slightly when the doctor told him that we wouldn't leave him, that's what his parents said but as one can see they never visit him anymore. It's going to be same with Doctor Eugine, he just knows it. But for some reason this doctor just keeps smiling, he couldn't decide if it was comforting, or just plain weird.

Then they moved on to Jadons favorite part, the examination. To say that he liked it was far from the truth, he hated it when the doctors touched him, their hands were always so cold and sterile. On top of that even after a year of being stuck in a hospital he still hated needles. Finally the examine ended, and it looked like he got lucky this time and didn't have to suffer from getting poked. Also Doctor Eugine told him that he would bring him rice cakes, and Jadon was definitely excited for that. Hospital food gets old after a while and there was no one to bring him anything decent to eat either. Doctor Eugine the asked if there was anything Jadon needed and or wanted. There were plenty of things he wanted, but if he asked for them he would feel as if he was demanding too much from the doctor. "No...I'm fine." He simply said back in response, not wanting to be greedy and ask for things.

Eugine let out a quiet sigh, watching at Jadon with somewhat sad eyes. "Well, if you do think of anything, tell me when I get back, okay?" He asked with a soft smile as he put the papers aside once again. He would just take them when he left this room completely... The doctor smiled softly at his patient before turning around and leaving. He knew he had some rice cakes in his own room... It was a good way to help his patients stop feeling nauseous, no matter what was the cause - like some magical medicine! Besides, the actual medicines for that were sometimes awful...

The blond came back to Jadon after a while, a smile on his face as he gave him a pack of light rice cakes. "Do you have some water here? They might be a bit too dry to eat alone." The doctor said as he sat down on his chair again, looking at the other with warm eyes. "And... Did you think of what you want? Just say it, even if it sounds silly." He added with a quiet chuckle. He'd give his patients anything, so they are happy... One time, he actually brought his patient, an elderly woman, a small kitten to make her happy. He learned that later on the kitten was adopted by her, too!

"You know, Jadon... There is a beautiful garden in the hospital. I'm sure it's boring being in here all the time, and fresh air always helps out. Would you like to go there?" He asked softly, ready to help his patient get into the wheelchair and go with him wherever he wanted.

Doctor Eugine soon left the room, he said he was going to get rice cakes, but to tell the truth Jadon would be surprised if the doctor did come back. He sighed and laid back down in the bed, his stomach was bothering him quite a bit, but by now he was used to the pain. As he laid down, he thought more about the doctors insistence on telling him what Jadon wanted. Deep down he knew what he really wanted, but it was just too childish to ask, considering his age. He really wished that he could have those soft fluffy pillow things that looked like animals, they were so cute, but hes an adult male... Jadon let out a sigh and closed in his for a bit, not expecting the doctor to actually come back.

To his surprise Doctor Eugine was back, and had rice cakes. "...Thanks." Jadon said shyly as he took the rice cakes and slowly began to eat one. He nodded when the doctor asked if he had water, the nurses always gave him water. But he still stayed silent when the doctor asked if he wanted anything, he wasn't about to tell him.

His eyes lit up when the doctor asked if he wanted to go to garden, but he knew he couldn't walk on his own, and he didn't want to be seen in a wheel chair. "No...I'm fine.." Jadon said quietly.

Eugine let out a soft smile as he nodded, leaning back against his chair a bit. "You know, it's not really good to lie to doctors." He teased with a small smile before tilting his head slightly to the right. "I can see there's something you want. If you don't want for anyone else to know, I won't tell, I promise. And I can tell you for sure that I won't judge you for whatever you want." The doctor added with a smile. It wasn't any trouble for him to get his patients what they wanted - he had the money and the time for it... If needed, he could drive through the whole city to find it, or even order it from the internet. Seeing people happy was his goal as a doctor.

A soft sigh left his mouth at how Jadon reacted to his offer to the garden. "Are you ashamed of being in a wheelchair?" He asked softly as he leaned closer, his bangs falling into his eyes a bit. "You shouldn't be, Jadon... I'll help you out, you just have to agree. I'm not going to force you, but remember... I'm not your enemy." He said with a small smile before leaning back again. He wished he could just make every living person in Earth happy, no matter who and where they were.

Jadon looked away from Doctor Eugine as he kept insisting that he tell him what it is he wants. The doctor told him that he wouldn't judge him but he still didn't want to tell him, it was just too embarrassing. "I told you...I'm fine.." Jadon hugged his knees to his chest as he spoke. "I guess if anything I would prefer not to be poked with needles but that's never happening.." Jadon mumbled to himself, but it was loud enough that the other person could probably hear it. He let out a soft sigh, if only that wish could come true.

When Doctor Eugine leaned in closer to Jadon, he moved away slightly avoiding the others eyes. It's not that he didn't want to go, it's he didn't want to be in a wheelchair. "...If I can't walk on my own two feet I'm not going." He wasn't trying to be stubborn, but he just hated the feeling of being helpless. Jadon felt frustrated, he couldn't do anything anymore and it just bugged him. He wanted to go outside, and go back to college, and get a job but he just couldn't, nor will he ever. Jadon felt his eyes well up with tears when he thought about how helpless he was, but he didn't want to cry in front of the doctor. He's 21 and he knows that 21 year old's don't cry.

Eugine blinked at what he heard from his patient and let out a soft smile. "I'll see what I can do about that." He promised with his usual soft smile. The doctor pushed his hair out of his eyes, the smile staying on his face. "I'm certain that needles aren't the only way to give you your medicine." He said softly before tucking an annoying strand of hair behind his ear. "I still feel, however, that you're not telling me something. Even if all you want is a... I don't know, a teddy bear, I will get you that." He promised with a small smile.

A quiet sigh left his mouth as Jadon remained stubborn about the wheelchair. "Jadon, please... You'll leave the hospital at some point, you'll have to use the wheelchair then. If you wish, I can help you walk as much as possible, but you will have to sit down in the wheelchair when you feel tired." The doctor offered as he tilted his head. "Please, the garden is amazing... Maybe you'll find someone else to talk to there. Making friends while here is always a good choice." The blond added with a serious expression. He felt as if he was adding too much pressure on the guy... "But, that's just my suggestion." He said with a sigh and stood up, walking to open the window.

Jadon felt a little relieved when the doctor told him that needles weren't the only way to help him get better. He knew he still had to face them, but if he didn't everyday then he would be grateful. He blinked as he watched the doctor fidget with his hair. If it bugged him that much than why didn't he just cut it? He felt a slight flush appear on his face when Doctor Eugine guessed what he wanted was a teddy bear. He wasn't too far off but, there is no way he was going to admit it to the doctors face. He sunk back down into the bed, and remained silent.

Jadon looked away from Doctor Eugine, pouting slightly as he kept pressing for a wheelchair. "No...I don't want to go....Please stop trying to make me.." He was still being stubborn, but to tell the truth Jadon didn't really care. If Doctor Eugine really wanted what was best for him, than he should drop the subject. Jadon knew well enough that unless he brought up another subject that the doctor would not leave him alone. Now that he thinks about it, a bath would sound nice. He couldn't quite remember when he took a bath last. "Um, what I want is to take a bath. Can you get a nurse to give me one?" He told Doctor Eugine as the doctor went to open one of his windows.

Eugine felt like he hit the jackpot. Jadon seemed to blush when he mentioned a teddy bear - was that it? "Hm... Say, Jadon, what's your favorite animal?" He asked without making it seem too obvious for what he was asking this for. If he didn't answer to this, he'd just get him a small teddy.. And if he failed on that, well, he wouldn't give up for sure. No, he would do whatever it took to get this guy happy and healthy. Once he got a patient, he didn't leave until either death or complete health. That was just how he thought everything should be. He actually pitied the doctors who left patients with terminal illnesses...

Eugine let out a sigh when the other still refused to leave with the wheelchair. Here he also wouldn't give up. The blond didn't say anything else about it, but sadness seemed to show itself in his eyes again... It was trully upsetting when people couldn't accept what happened - like in Jadon's case, his leukemia. He turned back when his patient finally said one wish. "Of course. Would you prefer a woman or a man?" He asked softly as he walked back to the white-haired male. He thought it was only fair to ask something like that. Being gay himself, he didn't want to just assume someone's sexuality...

Jadon glanced away from the doctor, as he continued to press the subject of a stuffed animal gift. It really was a childish request, and Jadon really didn't want his request to become a reality, if it did he might just die from embarrassment. "I said I was fine.." he began in a soft tone, before letting out a tiny sigh and saying in an extremely quiet voice, "But I like birds..." He could feel the heat pool under his cheeks, and for a moment he wondered if he had a slight fever. He really wished that the doctor didn't embarrass him further, Jadon was a grown man...and he should act like one.

Jadon bit his lip slightly, wishing for Doctor Eugine to drop the whole 'wheelchair' business. No matter what he didn't want to be seen in a wheelchair, it would only make him loose what little hope he had left. He finally gave out a small sigh of relief when the doctor dropped the subject and moved onto the topic of taking a bath. The hospital was really bad about giving him baths, it could be weeks before he got one, and he hated feeling dirty. For some reason though Doctor Eugine asked if he had a preference of gender of the nurse? Jadon wasn't a sexist, it was the persons job as a nurse and both males and females can do an equal job of it, so he was a little confused at why the doctor would even bring this up. "I don't care...I'm not a sexist." He told the doctor in a soft voice.

Eugine wasn't going to give up until his patient was happy. When the other continued on the whole "I'll be fine" thing, the doctor started feeling a bit helpless. He didn't want to use force on such a thing... But in the end, it seemed that he wouldn't have to. A grin stretched out on his face for a moment when Jadon mumbled out he liked birds. That was as good as saying he wanted a plushie of a bird to him... After all, if he didn't say anything, it would've made so much more sense! Now then, he would have to search for a bird plushie... Were there even any? He knew for sure that he'd seen a pillow kind of thing somewhere, but a bird itself? There were mostly dogs and bears...

Eugine hadn't completely given up on making the other use a wheelchair either. If needed, he would hire a psychologist... Wait, maybe that wasn't such a bad idea? "Jadon, did you ever go to a psychologist?" He asked with a soft smile. They may be unable to cure his illness, but... They should be able to help him get over not wanting to use a wheelchair. If only he went to a psychologist... But, it was probably too late for him now anyway. The blond blinked a few times at how Jadon answered and let out a soft smile. "Alright then. I just wanted to make sure... Wouldn't want you to be uncomfortable." He added with a smile and stood up. "Well then... If you'll excuse me, I'll go get you a nurse, and then I have other patients. If you feel the need to talk to me, just ask a nurse to get me."

Jadon let out a soft sigh of relief as he noticed the doctor dropped the subject of the gift. He wasn't sure what he would do if the doctor actually tried to give him some stuffed animal, he would probably die of embarrassment. He's an adult now, he shouldn't be hung up on such childish things. He sighed once more, hopefully he doctor would drop the subject completely if he was lucky.

When he heard Doctor Eugine start to mention the possibility of psychologist, Jadon immediately became defensive towards the doctor. "Why do I need to see one of them? I'm not crazy, I don't need to talk to some weird lady." He crossed his arms and adverted his gaze from the doctors, slightly offended that he would think he needed to talk to someone. He was sick, that was granted, but he didn't believe he was mental. Finally the doctor returned to the subject of finally getting a bath. Part of him was excited that the doctor said he had to go see other paitents, but part of him wanted the doctor to stay. No one came to visit him here, his parents never came, and he didn't really have friends either who would visit him.

Eugine furrowed his brows at how defencive Jadon became when he mentioned a psychologist. "Do I look like a crazy person to you? I could recommend a very good psychologist, he'd help you out with whatever you want. I'm not saying it's necessary, but... Talking with one doesn't make you crazy. It makes you a person who's trying to make his life better." The doctor said quietly. He used to go to a psychologist when he was a teen at some point... He managed to "heal", but it all started again at some point. Now he just... He didn't want to go back there. He wasn't strong enough to actually seek help for his troubles...

The doctor let out a quiet sigh as he looked at Jadon, pursing his lips slightly. "Are you feeling any less nauseous now, at least?" He decided to ask before leaving. He trailed his eyes over the room and his lips' corners turned down a bit. "And, sorry if it's too personal of a question, but do you get a lot of visitors? It must be boring all day in the bed like that..." He trailed off quietly. He knew well enough how it felt to be in a situation like this. Well, not with leukemia, but it was still something that got him into a hospital bed for months.

Even when the doctor explained to Jadon about the psychologist, he was still reluctant to go. He didn't want to talk to people about his problems, and be seen as a crazy person. He much more preferred reading his books and forgetting about some of life's troubles. "...I don't want to go..." He mumbled out, wanting to end this conversation as soon as possible. Hopefully the doctor will give up on this idea, after all no one can force him to talk to anyone. They can force him to be in the same room with people, but not to talk.

"The nausea comes in waves...I feel okay now but it will come back shortly.." Jadon spoke quietly, answering the doctors question hesitantly. He laid back in the bed, his head was beginning to pound. He gently rubbed his temples to try and ease the headache away, though he knew very well that the attempt would be in futile. He heard the doctors question, and not being able to fully think about it he gave Doctor Eugine his honest answer. "No. My family never wanted me anyway since I was always sick as a child, so they are glad I'm in the hospital and terminal. Now they don't have to deal with me." Suddenly a strong wave of nausea passed over Jadon, and he felt sick to his stomach. He brought his hand to his mouth as he scrambled to find a bedside pan. He managed to find one just in time before emptying his stomach of its contents. It felt terrible, and even after he threw up he still felt nauseous.

Eugine let out a quiet sigh and nodded quietly, his lips pursed into a frown. "I won't force you to. But please, don't bottle all of your problems inside... If needed, I'll always be ready to listen. I promise." He said softly and let out a soft smile, yet he was still very disappointed. Maybe Jadon just didn't trust him yet... A new doctor was quite the thing, as he could remember. He always tried to make his relationship with patients as little proffessional as possible. All those formalities and discomfort in general were something he tried to avoid most of the time.

The blond nodded quietly at what his patient said about being nauseous. "Try eating the rice cakes, they should soothe your stomach. Don't forget to drink a lot of water too." He added with a soft smile that faded out soon. When Jadon told him about his lack of visitors, he knew he had sadness flashing in his eyes. "I'm sure they'd still be sad if you di-" He was suddenly stopped by the fact that Jadon threw up. Stepping closer, he gently rubbed the other's back, doing it in soothing circles. Watching him puke... It wasn't all that good for Eugine. He gulped down nervously as he pulled back a bit. "I'll get a nurse to come soon. Please drink some water." He said in a slightly rushed manner as he walked out, immediately getting a nurse for Jadon. After that,he headed to the bathroom, lightly washing of his face. When did he eat? Two hours ago?.. Guess it was about time then.

Doctor Eugine began to say something about Jadons family, but soon the young male found himself emptying his stomach. It felt disgusting and he hated it, but with his medication it was difficult to keep his food down. Through all of it Jadon noticed that the doctor was acting a little strange. For some reason he had to get a nurse, most doctors would treat him but why is Doctor Eugine acting like this? The thought came across Jadons mind that the doctor might have some form of an eating disorder, which might contribute to the fact that he has rice cakes on hand. But Jadon didn't want to jump to conclusions.

Jadon laid back in the bed feeling drained and weak. He hated always feeling like crap, but he couldn't do anything to prevent it. Deep down he knew that once he started his chemotherapy, he would be even more weak and sick. He glanced over at his book sitting on the side table, if he wasn't so nauseous he would read it, but looks like all he has left to do is sit and wait for the nurses.

A few minutes later, a young male nurse knocked gently on the door. "I'm coming in." He warned in a somewhat motherly tone. With a small smile, he walked towards Jadon, tilting his head a bit. "I see you're one of doctor Menwood's patients? I heard he's a great doctor." The man said lightly as he took the bedpan to empty and wash. "What did you need me for? All he said was that I should go to you. Is something wrong?" The nurse questioned in a friendly manner, putting the bedpan back next to the bad. His eyes then fell onto the rice cakes and a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. "Did Doctor give these to you?" He asked with a warm smile. He'd received a pack of them from the blond too, when he said he was feeling a bit sick earlier. "They really do wonders..."

Meanwhile, Eugine was busy swallowing some pills in the bathroom. These helped him feel full without eating too much later, so he didn't have to force himself to puke... Sometimes they worked, but mostly he still ended up doing that anyway. If one looked closely enough, it could even be seen that his skin was a bit paler and he was too skinny in general. He was glad that the robe covered most of his body... Especially his arms and wrists. Truly, he had quite a few problems... But he tried dealing with them, and so he still had his job as a doctor.
