My character:

WP_20140911_011_zps906084ad.jpg also he has black hooves at the end of his feet but it's cut off (not 100% happy with how the drawing came out but whatever)

Name: Li-ya

Age: ???

Race: forest spirit

Personlity: very sad, kind but seems very depressed a lot of the time

Likes: quiet, nature, animals

Dislikes: Humans, technology

Li-ya sat on the foest floor. The gently wind was cool on his loosely clothed skin and the chirping of birds was like music to his ears. Places like this were becoming more and more difficult for the spirit to find, there were so many spots that had been turned into dumps or housing developments... He let out a soft sigh before standing up and walking through the forest. There was a place in the woods nearby where humans had been visiting a lot, he was hoping to find out why.

As much as Haruto disliked coming out to places like this, which had dirt and flying insects literally everywhere, it was always essential for him to see the land out before finalizing and approving any developments. He wished to stay no longer than possible, thus why he had decided to keep his suit on, but the tranquility of this scouting possibly would prompt him to stay a tad bit longer... Flowers and green grass were walked all over without even a notice as Haruto took out his pen and notebook to start planning out some structures that would fit well over this land; where all the animals would go? It didn't matter. A 10 floor mall could bring in more profit than a bunny can. As his pen clicked, he heard someone walking some distance away and it infuriated him that apparently someone didn't get the memo that he'd be coming in alone for today.

"Oi! What are you doing here?" He came closer, "I don't need any help so your'e presence is..." That wasn't one of his men. Haruto stopped, his mouth left slightly ajar, as his eyes caught sight of something quite new.

Li-ya had known that he would have to talk to a human today. If he wanted to save the forest he would have to confront the people that wanted to destroy it. But when his gaze met the lone man's he felt his heart stop in his chest. How could he convince these strange, heartless creatures?

He took a slow step forward, his hooves clicking lightly against stones in the ground. "H-hello..." his voice trembled in pure dread. "um... M-my name is Li-ya, I'm the s-spirit that guards this forest..." he had practiced this over and over to the little animals in the forest, but his voice still shook as he thought about what was at stake.

"A-are you one of the people trying to c-cut down the trees?" the spirit cursed himself for his own weakness. When the forest was bigger there were other, stronger, spirits. But they had died off, leaving Li-ya all alone. The image of humans with weapons, shooting down the large animals, came back to his mind. Did this human have a weapon? Would he try to shoot Li-ya? The thought made his hands tremble even more

And it could speak too? Many questions filled the man's head, yet no answers came out of his mouth for the creature at first. Haruto took more way more than one step closer, slanting his body slightly as he did so to look at those inhuman legs. A person with horns and odd deer-like legs... never has he seen anything like this on a scout, maybe in a child's book a long time ago, but this was real.

"What are you, exactly?" Haruto disregarded the poor thing's personal space completely by pinching and stretching out his cheeks and staring closely at his scared face, "A forest spirit you said? How ordinary to find something like you... Where did you come from, huh?"

"I-I just said I'm a forest spirit" Li-ya scampered backwards to escape the human's touches. "please don't touch me like that, it hurts" he whimpered, rubbing his cheeks lightly.

"I've always been here... I just stay hidden... B-but you humans keep cutting down the trees and destroying the forest, if you don't stop soon I'll die and so will all the trees and animals!" his voice was desprate. It was very rare for forest spirits to try to contact humans, in fact Li-ya had never heard of it happening before this. But if he didn't do something soon... He pushed the thoughts to the back of his mind. "d-do you know who's in charge of the big metal tree eaters?"

"Big metal tree eater?" He laughs, "I think you mean the dozers; and they don't eat trees... they just tear them down!" Grinning, the man put one hand on his chin and the other at his hip, "And what you call destroying is what I see as creating, little spirit. I order the bulldozers thinking of the future!"

Haruto motions to all the trees and life around them, turning his head though his red, piercing eyes remained on the forest spirit, "All of this? I envision only the best after all this is finally cleared." To him, this was a blank slate, modeled by the universe as a calling. Bigger is better, but so is a change of scenery... Plus; the faster they get rid of the source of those ugly bugs, the faster Haruto could live in better peace.

Li-ya's eyes widened at the man's words. "you're crazy... There are so many plants and animals that you're murdering by doing this, where do you expect them to go?" he felt his chest tighten. "all my friends... All the other spirits are dead because we can't live without the energy of the forest. You're ending so many innocent lives because you want to build big cement boxes to put humans in..."

he walked towards the human. "please stop, you've done enough, you've killed enough of us... We haven't done anything wrong. We just want to live..." he stopped just a few feet in front of the man. "what can I do to convince you not to hurt us anymore? What do you want?"

His smile turned into a growing frown, especially at the word murder. How dare this creature accuse him of 'murdering' plants and animals; it's not like either of them were humans and have actual lives to begin with. Being innovative meant finding what is best for all, for what will be the new, hot thing for everyone to enjoy-- it didn't mean to butcher. Crossing his arms firmly, Haruto huffed and spat back, "What you call 'cement boxes' are what makes me fortunes. Each building I make puts endless money in my pockets and unless you have dollar bills coming out of your ass, then there isn't anything you could do about it. If you could just merely see what a gain this is for us, mostly me, then you wouldn't be complaining, little spirit."

With a Cheshire smile, the developer took a step towards the spirit and leaned even closer, "You've got no profit, you've got nothing. I suggest you find somewhere else to frolic."

Li-ya glared up at the human despite the fact that he was shaking. "You're a monster! You're murdering thousands of animals and plants for what? Dollars? If that's what you're getting then don't you have enough by now? Why do you need more?" He was starting to raise his voice, his eyes tearing up. "Why can't you just leave us alone? you're going to kill everything in this forest because of your selfishness!"

He didn't know what money was, but the idea of someone killing other living creatures just for his own happiness was mortifying. It wasn't even for survival like he had hoped. If the humans were doing this to save themselves from death then he would have understood but this... it was too much for him to comprehend.

Back in the recent past, there were some protesters or something talking about keeping alive Mother Nature... The politician paid little notice to any of their problems, though it seemed like it was all being unloaded right here. Some things can't be helped now can they?

"Ah, but there's another fact you're missing on! You think it's only me enjoying everything I build? I'm one of the most looked up upon men in our city. It's not necessarily selfish to be benefiting more than a single person... Anyways. How does an animal compare to a person and their needs? Or how about a blade of grass? They don't. Humans have needs I plan to satisfy, and once this project is done, I'll be doing plenty of that." Haruto narrowed his eyes and sneered, "Don't think that any sob-story is going to stop me, nor the fact if you're a spirit or such. Nothing will stop me."

"We're just as important as you! You have other places you can live, I've seen your homes" Li-ya tried to argue, but it seemed hopeless. All this human seemed interested in was dollars... "How... How can I make dollars? y-you said that it's what you were trying to get out of all this... Is there some other way to make those... M-maybe if I can help you then you can have more than if you cut down the forest" He lightly chewed on his lip, confident that this plan could work.

At the idea, Haruto pursed his lips and cocked his head slightly, grazing his eyes over the spirit once more. He doubted anyone has seen anything like this creature, a forest spirit. People could want to see something like this for quite a fee... but a freak show would not sum up to the money that would be brought to him from the development. With a bit of extra thought, Haruto got an idea and felt as if devil horns would pop out of his head.

"What are some things you can do?" He asked, "If you're a spirit, you must have some sort of abilities, correct?" Although the man doubted it mattered if the sprit did or not, the cost of such a thing would be pretty high anyways.

"o-of course I have abilities... I'm a lot weaker than usual because so many trees are gone... but..." Li-ya thought for a moment before scooping up a handful of dirt. He leaned down and breathed into it. A small sprout grew almost immediately and slowly began to grow taller until it was about two feet tall. Li-ya put it down on the ground and watched it grow for another moment. It stopped when it was a little taller than the human. "uh, so I can do that and some other things... Mostly just stuff to help the forest... I-I can heal small injuries in animals but I'm not strong enough to heal anything big anymore..." he sighed and looked at the ground. "nothing that would be very helpful I'm guessing..."

Bla bla bla with the whole forest thing... As annoyed as he was about every little thing this creature tried to pin onto him and the city, Haruto was fascinated with a ability to grow such a towering flower. He couldn't help but ignore the other, stepping up to the plant and petting its large, soft petals, "I like it... It'll sell good enough I suppose." Ah, but in the man's head, he wished for this beauty all to himself. Taking a deep breath, he turned to the spirit and demanded, rather than asked, "What is your name?"

"Sell?" Li-ya still felt a bit perplexed by the human's words, but if he was happy with it then it was good. "oh, m-my name is Li-ya... What's yours?" He reached up and ran his fingers over the petals of the flower thoughtfully. The petal's turned from yellow to a pale blue under his touch and a few more smaller flowers grew from the stem. The spirit was just trying to make the plant better, without even taking into consideration that he was still being watched. He crouched down to coax another plant out of the soil as he waited for the man to respond.

"Haruto.... Mikami..." He spoke absent mindedly, becoming even more captivated by the flowers. Back in the city, it was somewhat rare to find florists that sold anything worth the catch of an eye.... or florists in general. He didn't keep any thing remotely green in his home, and hell, he wanted this. The flower was gigantic, beautiful and real. Ah god, the smell was so lovely and sweet. Haruto peered higher on his feet to move his head closer to the top, taking another whiff, satisfying his strong sense of smell. The aroma was so heavenly... so... "Wonderful~"

Li-ya's face brightened at the compliment. "you like it? I can make lots more if you want" he offered. He was finally starting to feel a bit of hope about saving his forest. If he could make dollars for the man and make him happy with flowers then surely he wouldn't kill him... The spirit thought for a moment before bringing up a small bush out of the ground. Flowers bloomed on the bush and then turned into little yellow fruits. "try one" he said, pulling a fruit off the stem and holding it out for Haruto.

Haruto blinked twice and stared at the small fruit in Li-ya's hand, just thinking how simply amazing this power really was. Here he thought this deer-legged spirit would just be a pain in the ass, but he was so wrong. Taking the fruit, the red-head sniffed it, as he did with all foods habitually, before taking it his mouth and popping it in. As soon as Haruto bit into it, the sweet just as the faint scent had suggested, and it was a flavor he had never tasted before as well; making the politician's eyes widen as he ate. He was at a loss for words... Li-ya was such a special creature!

"d-do you like it?" Li-ya's voice had a trace of fear to it. He didn't know what humans liked to eat, so maybe he had grown a fruit that Haruto thought was gross. "If you don't like it then I can make something better... The sparrows really like that kind because it's so sweet, but maybe human's like bitter food better..." he said thoughtfully, trying to think of what might taste better.

As soon as he heard Li-ya even suggest something else, Haruto shook his head and picked himself another fruit after he had finished the one he had, "I do like it, in fact, little spirit." With a smile, he took it into his mouth and hummed a bit, "~ Different humans have different tastes. And this tastes very good considering it came off a bush... very surprising actually. It nearly hides the fact it came from the filthy ground." Haruto took out a white napkin with his initials on it and rubbed it with his hands, removing the basically non-existing dirt.

"the ground isn't filthy!" Li-ya insisted. "It provides life for all kinds of creatures, why would you call it filthy?" He frowned deeply and stared up at the man. He wasn't sure if the human had decided to use him for something instead of cutting down the forest, and he realized that he probably should try not to be rude... it could make things worse. "so... did you think of something I can do so you can have dollars without cutting down all the trees?"

The man didn't really take any mind to the small outburst, seeing how touchy and protective this spirit was about some dirt and plants already; he simply took a quick look at his watch and pursed his lips slightly. With a straight face and patting off wrinkles in his suit, Haruto said with a sharpness to his voice, "It is you that I want, Li-ya. I'd like to make a profit out of you after all." There was plenty of ways for him to squeeze money out of the spirit. Selling him off, selling those flowers, fruit maybe even services... Yes it was crude, but Li-ya wanted to save this forest didn't he? This was the price.

Li-ta tried to stop the shaking in his hands. He was scared of what this seemingly heartless man wanted to do with him... But it would save the forest, so he didn't have any other choice. "o-okay... I'll do whatever you tell me too... b-but if anymore of this forest is torn down then I'll die and you won't be able to use me for anything else" he was being fully truthful, he was already close to death. "i-if you plant more trees in the forest and help it grow then I'll have more powers that you can use"

Helping it grow? How sappy. Li-ya was just being over dramatic. Holding back from rolling his eyes, he instead extended his arm and smiled wider, "Splendid. Let's shake on it then. That's how business is settled where I come from... Because I'm feeling rather generous, if you do please me well, I'll have a single tree planted here. How does that sound, little spirit?" Being honest, Haruto felt some sort of pity for Li-ya. Normally, he wouldn't care about inhabitants on development land, but the wonders that thee spirit had shown him had peaked some sort of emotion inside of him.
