[18+] Rivals in Love (Virtualoo x Rem)

In the most prestigious high school in the country, status is everything. Luckily for two young men, they have earned the highest titles that they could receive, one as the best athlete, and the other as the top scholar. One would think that such high-ranking students would be friends, but it's the polar opposite. The two boys hate each other and have been at each other's throats since elementary school. But maybe their hatred for each other is only to hide true feelings....

 

 

My character:

Name: Minato Rina

Age: 18

Personality/Bio: Athletic, cocky, teasing, sarcastic. Minato is the captain of the basketball and tennis team, and he worked extremely hard to reach those positions. He doesn't have the best life at home, and he found sports as an outlet he enjoyed to keep him busy. His cocky and teasing attitude makes him seem like a jerk, and he has a habit of bothering one person in particular.

Age:18

Personality/Bio: Comes off as being hard driven and focused on school. If he is not in school, he would be studying. Asukis goals were to get the best grades since elementary school and get a good career and move out of this town. No matter how hard he worked, there was always...him getting in his way. He detested the athlete which made him study even harder.

Minato panted softly as he passed the last leg of his final lap. He grabbed his bottle and towel from the side of the track, drying the sweat on his forehead. He loved when they ran laps during gym class. Glancing back over his shoulder, he noticed the rest of his classmates lagging behind. They still had another lap to go, whereas Minato could sit down on the bleachers and cool off. Another perk of being the most athletically talented person in the school. His eyes scanned the school grounds, and a slight frown tugged at his lips. Why was this guy even here? Shouldn't he be inside reading a book like a good little nerd? He chuckled at his own joke as he strode over to the other student.

Asuki had gotten out of class early because he finished a test early..obviously. It was really easy and he didn't need to "re check" his answers..he already knew he got all the answers correct so why check again? Asuki went outside to get some air, leaning against a wall while a gym class took place.He had no problem with it until he saw someone walking toward him. Oh great.. it's his gym class. He was in no mood to deal with him..

"Look who decided to actually step outside. Shouldn't you be holed up in the library somewhere?" Minato leered as he stepped closer. He set his towel atop his shoulder as he took a swig from his water bottle. "So why are you out here, anyways? The great Asuki finished his test early, didn't he?" he smirked.

"At least I can pass tests. Last time I check, you kind of need to pass tests to graduate. Not run around a track" Asumi smirked back at the other. "Why don't you leave me alone and go back to running around in circles okay?" Asumi smirked even more. Just go away..don't ruin my day and piss off..Asuki kept thinking as he made sure to maintain his smirk.

Minato opened his mouth for another response but hesitated when he heard his coach calling him back to the track. "Yeah, whatever. See you later, nerd." he added, giving a superior grin over his shoulder as he jogged back over to his class. Even as he headed inside to the locker room to shower and change, he couldn't help thinking about Asuki. He always acted as if he was better than him, just because Minato wasn't very good academically. It annoyed him to no end.

Asuki went back inside soon after, not wanting to have to deal with Minatio anymore today. He went to his usual spot in the library for his free period and read his home economics textbook. He was reading up on the next classes projects, sewing a pillow and making chocolate. Okay so it has to cook...murmur....stir at a rate of...murmur...Asuki zoned in and got lost in his book.

Minato had just finished getting dressed when he heard his coach calling him. He hurried to slip on his school shoes before going to his side. The tall man did not look pleased. "Yes, sir?" he said carefully.

 

"You know that we have the first game of the season on Friday, right? I have you signed up to be in the starting line up. However, I just had a chat with your Calculus teacher, and she said that you failed your last test. That leaves you with a failing grade in that class, and you know that I can't let you play if you're failing any classes..."

 

Minato felt the color drain from his face. He had been training for this game for months! The whole team was counting on him to lead them to victory for their first game, so how could he let them down because of a stupid math class?

 

"Your teacher said that if you pass the test on Thursday, your grade will be raised and you'll be able to play. She also said that there was a student in one of her advanced classes that could tutor you. Asuki Sumato, I think. Talk to him and see if he can help you. We need you for this game, Minato. And I'd hate to see you lose your position as captain over something like this." The coach muttered, giving him a pat on the shoulder before walking away.

 

Minato nodded and frowned as the man left. This situation sucked.

Asuki put away the book when he had felt he had studied it enough, which was not for very long. Now for Calculus..sure he didn't need to study but if he didnt keep practicing and going over materials, his grades would slip..and that would be one of his worst nightmares. 'Okay so The sum of continuous functions is continuous..The difference of continuous functions is continuous..." He mumbled more math to himself before going silent. He had a lot of work to do as he looked for his practice workbook for advanced calculus.

Minato sighed as he trudged to the library. He still had about ten minutes left until the next class period would begin, which was just enough time to try to talk to him. How in the world would he convince Asuki to help him? They weren't exactly on the greatest terms with each other. Minato knew that the other boy disliked him just as much he as disliked him, so how would they be able to work together? He would have to put all of that aside for the sake of his team. The blonde entered the library and quickly found Asuki stored away in a corner with a book.

 

"Look, I know we're not friends or acquaintances or anything like that, but I need your help with my Calculus class." he stated flatly.

"Hmm..?" Asuki said as he looked up from his book and saw who else but Minato. Of all the people to ask for his help in Calculus..it has to be him. "Why?" He asked flatly, not really in any sort of mood to help him. Why should he? He does nothing but treat him like shit for being smart and now he wants his smarts to help him?

With that being said, Minato was honestly at a loss for what to say. The other boy had a good point, after all. They had been at each other's throats for years, so why should he bother to help him now? The blonde sighed, knowing that he was going to have to bite the bullet and try to be nice to him for once. "Because....I really need to pass this test....and you're the only one who can help me..." he muttered, the words tasting bitter on his tongue. "And if you help me, I can repay you in whatever way you want."

"Right, because of grades and needing to keep them at a certain level to play.." Asuki sighed, putting down the book. He really didnt want to have to help him..but he wasn't that much of a stick-up-the-ass. At least helping him would get him out of his hair of anything else. And repaying? He couldnt think of anything..but he seemed pretty desperate..and he loved it. "Sure..after school, right here.." He said and added 'Bring your books and a notebook'.

Minato opened his mouth to protest out of habit but stopped himself. Studying here would be a much better place than his own home. Any place would be better than his own home. "Fine." he muttered, turning to leave and not giving him even a glance back. He hated having to ask that smug little nerd for help, but he hated needing his help even more. He just wanted to get this whole thing over with. After school, he gathered his things and forced himself to go back to the library.

Asuki was right there in the library waiting, with his calculus book and a notebook. "Surprised you came" He said, not expecting him to show up or something along those lines. "I guess start with what do you know already..?' Asuki said, hoping he at least knew the basics so it would make his job easier. How would he have gotten through the year without them? He pushed the calculus book toward him so he can show him what he knew.

Minato frowned in response to his words as he sat down at the table next to him. He pulled the book over with a scoff and glanced at the pages. "Hmm...I remember a little bit of quadratics. And I think I remember going over the formulas for both of these sections but I might have fallen asleep in the middle of it. Oh, and we just went over these function things last week so I kinda remember those too. And that's about it. Teach me, oh wise one." he mocked.

"You aren't going to make this easy are you?" Asuki sighed then saying "Okay, we will start with the formulas then" Asuki said as he started from the very beginning, He made sure to explain it slowly and as simply as he could for the other to understand. In explaining how to use the formula, he wrote out how to solve it part by part. "Now you try one following those steps..this one here" He said, pointing out a problem in the book.

Even if he didn't want to, Minato paid attention to the other's instructions and tried to follow along as best as he could. He knew that he couldn't let something as silly as not getting along with his "tutor" get in the way of being able to play with his team. He stared at the problem in question as he tried to figure out how to use the formula like Asuki had just done. Minato wrote out the equation with a few mistakes, but corrected himself and slowly came to the right answer.

"Good job" Asuki said with a smile to praise the other, being only fair. "It can be tricky but that's the easiest way to do it. We can do a few more problems and study more tomorrow. Sure you don't want to be here all day" He said with a laugh. Not like he had anyone to go home to so he could study even more. "Try these ones here using the second formula. It will always look like this when it his formula is used" He said, pointing to the problem and how to tell them apart

Minato was surprised by how pleasant the other boy's laugh had sounded, but he tried to ignore it. "Uh yeah, I think this is the longest I've even been in a library, honestly." he muttered with a small smile. He focused once again on the work in front of him and tried to solve the problems. It took him a little while to finish this time, and one of the solutions was wrong, but he couldn't tell where he had made the mistake. "Something off with this one, but I can't figure out where I went wrong...." he mumbled.

"Oh, these numbers here were brought over to the wrong place.." Asuki said, reaching and rubbing against the others hands as he pointed at the problem area. "You took those numbers and you did this but you should have done this instead.." He said, going over that particular section. "All right..so good first day" Asuki said with a small smile, trying to be polite.

Minato blinked at the sudden contact but gave no other reaction. Even as Asuki was explaining his mistake, he couldn't help but think about it. He was confused. The other was being so....nice? He was so unused to this kind of interaction that he wasn't sure what to do. Should he just play along? Asuki was probably just being civil so that they would get this over with, so would do the same. The athlete fixed his mistake and redid the problem, then looked back at him. "Is that all for today?" he asked.

"Yes, test is in a few days so please show up. You did good today but you have to actually try and study when you get home" Asuki said, realizing he was so nice to the other. It felt weird being nice but he still had to polite enough. "Well..bye" He said as he finally started to clean up his stuff.
