Long time ago in old Kyoto, when traditions were like religion, one god was cursed.

Many brides were sent, some weren't saved by the water god, others disappeared - but rain would hardly fall.

Now a mistake was done, instead of a female, the most beautiful male was sent because no woman was enough of a beautiful in the whole land. Hopeful that humans will deceive the god of water, they sacrificed a man. The most beautiful one, but will he be saved by Habaek, the god of water? Will he be able to lift the curse that was put on Habaek?

What is actually the curse? That the bride will have to find out.

Akihiro Yoshida (24)

Yoshida was an owner of a small sweet shop which pleases the travelers as they pass by. He's calm and observant for a person who looks angry every time. Despite his scowling feature there lies a gentle facade which can rival a woman's physique. To his embarrassment, when he was a young boy he's mistaken as a girl because of his long hair and short stature. Now that he's all man up, he was then troubled by the strange news that he's the one to be offered to the Water God.

He likes spending his spare time watching the calm river as he laze around eating some pastry or reading some book.

Mui,or known as Habaek, is a rather cold man. But that is supposed for a powerful god like him. Many humans and even gods are afraid of him and his abilities. Water is source of life and so believed, Mui is the one controlling ''the source of life and beauty'' - water. Due to betrayals and being hurt, the water god closed his heart and doesn't seem to care for anyone. Even if brides were sacrificed,he would barely lift a finger to save them. But deep inside,he is caring and possessive.

Public name: Habaek, the Water god

Real name: Mui

--Impossible That word had been ricocheting inside his head for quite a moment. The crystal water reflecting his worried features as his gaze were cast down the book which he was pretending to read. The word 'fine' was definitely the understatement of the year. Never would he thought that the priest would ask him something other than his favorite confectionery. Akihiro Yoshida was chosen to become the next bride of a what? A water God. Just the thought made him shook his head as he threw a pebble at the river that looks almost barren. For a measly owner of a pastry shop they sure had chosen the most beautiful bride for the Water God--a male to boot. Akihiro suddenly recalled the nice piece of kimono with intricate designs laying neatly atop his bed followed by a long wig.

He didn't even had the chance to argue nor decline since it was set in stone that he will be the bride. It was even a credulous mistake that he's more beautiful than all women in town. Yet Akihiro couldn't complain nor even escape. He'd love his hometown and is willing to do anything just to help the townspeople. In all honesty, the guy wasn't playing hero, he didn't believe the entire existence of this so called Water God. He's more worried for his daily profit with his shop than delve deeper to the fact that there's this existence they should respect. He's mostly a man of business, he firmly presumes.

To see is to believe... was his mantra.

"Aki it's time." Nakahara, her neighbor patted his shoulders. She then ushered Akihiro back to his residence for the preparation of the ritual. Akihiro complied like a doll as he let the girl grab his clothes towards the direction of his house.

"I'll make sure the Water God will be head over heels." It was really nice of her to find humor behind this situation. He didn't need pity since their wasn't a suffering that was active in the first place. He felt nothing to be exact; just the usual calm. Even he himself find it strange to feel such emotion. He'd confessed that a minute ago he was disturbed by the idea but now, he sure hadn't feel any impulse of hate or nervousness. Maybe it's the passing of time and the nature of always being alone that had made him that way.

The day was at its blossom yet, Habaek was spending his time in leisure by one of the shrine's fountains in the Water Kingdom. A very graceful dance of the plum petal that fell off the branch was like an omen of what was to come, or rather, what was coming his way.

The soft pink petal landed on the surface of his berry red tea, it looked just like a lone boat lost in the terrifying sea of sacrifices. How foolish humans were. The male actually looked so indifferent, one could easily mistake him for these expensive porcelain dolls sold only to the bourgeois people.

It'd been so long since he used his powers, that now and then he felt dizzy due to the unused energy. But if there was one thing he hated more than his mother, the Goddess of Disasters, it'd be ...humans.

Silver orbits that looked like two moons on such a lonely face averted to his tea cup, watching the petal struggling with the red liquid; denying the color whatsoever. His lips relaxed as eyes followed the ease of his lazy afternoon.

The gong suddenly disturbed the humid air with burning alarm, another sacrifice to summon Habaek and beg for his mercy; Rain, humans begged. Rain, humans requested. The drain from the recent years caused the population to drop, another fact Habaek knew very well. But somehow, he cared not. That was how deep he despised that race. After all, the source of his curse was because of ... a mere human.

His thin eyebrows locked in a frown. Another life sent off to the Nirvana, huh. What a joke, they did nothing but a pure crime. Just to satisfy their own needs, humans were ready to kill even their own kind - more ruthless than gods.

With his thin hand out-stretched upwards, the male covered the sun rays, that drained his power during the day.

- Master! Master! It's another year, another bride! - an odd creature popped its head from the pond near the fountains.

Quietly Habaek reached his fingers, caressing the surface of the water. It drew out a very faint and poor on colors image of the so said 'ritual'.

- Isn't she beautiful, Master? - the fish-like creature jumped around the water-image of the current event.

With disinterested face, Habaek leaned on his other side with back turned at the pond.

- As if I care. Let them drown her.

- But..

- Scram.

- Yes, Master. But I know Master never let them die, so hurry up! - scared for its dear life, the fish creature jumped into the pond.

Akihiro couldn't believe what he'd seen right before his eyes. The reflection of himself reflected at the huge mirror staring at him with shock.

"See, you're one beautiful person, Aki." Nakara piped in while holding the brushes and smugly smiling, proud of her finished product. Like that compliment would stir well for a twenty four years of age male. Yoshida was wearing a white kimono, longer for his liking that hides his masculinity too well. His artificial long hair was covered with beautiful ornaments, ajar lips were painted crimson and the light touch of cosmetics was only needed for him to fool everyone's eyes. For the second time he'd seen his face, no stubble or disarray hair, he was looking feminine. He'd really agree to the insults that were thrown by his playmates when he was a child. The idea made him twitch uncomfortably.

Two other guys greeted them at the doorway as the ritual would commence any minute by now. Akihiro was apathetic to look at the people who were staring at him with hope and pity. He was supposedly a sacrifice to die, they thought. But whatever their emotions might be, Akihiro couldn't care less. Some parts of his head was still recalculating some profits and weariness for his patrons upon the sudden closing of his shop.

Sighing, he stepped at the elongated boat covered with beautiful white lilies. Takeshi and Nakatsuma, the guys who'll be guiding him to the middle of the river, more like throw him in there, followed him behind. Akihiro's hands were tightly secured with a rope, not that he'll escape though, but the residents had learned their lesson from the other brides who tried to escape.

"We're really sorry for doing this to you, Akihiro. We got no choice left." Takeshi apologized followed by Nakatsuma's.

Their apologies didn't even matter by now, he was suppose to die. Maybe just maybe, after this stupid ritual he'll swam at the edge and escape just like the other brides who've gone missing. The rest of the brides were taken by the Water God, they dare say but Akihiro isn't even a believer. The rains just come and ago without the Water God's help yet he's no fool to argue with the horde's beliefs.

As their boat settled at the center of the river, covered with the cold mist, the men waited for the shrine's drums to stop and push Akihiro underneath the water.

*baam.

The two man was caught in surprise as Akihiro willingly jump without their push. For someone to die sooner or later he was enthusiastic, they thought.

Akihiro's eyes had been darting left and right from the dark waters. He could hold his breath for a long period of time but the binds are constricting him to swim fast. Added the fact that his weight had increased with the robes wrapping him. None of that will be a problem though.

--Calm.. The water gave him a certain high as he slowly closed his eyelids. Bubbles slowly escaped from his mouth and a couple of minutes he'll soon swim far away from the crowd to escape this hoax offering.

It was lonely and peaceful at the same time as he tried to succumb into the darkness, once more...

True he turned his back at the pond, but had he set his eyes upon the red liquid in his tea coup. The same image was displayed in the tea like in the pond, slightly disturbed now and then by the trembles of the petal. So after all he was curious.

Silver eyes followed the bride, indeed, very beautiful bride. But Habaek has seen many beautiful humans and gods, it wasn't the beauty that captured him. Rather, it was the dash to jump off the boat. Was she insane? He's been watching that ritual for so long, and truth was, no one wanted to die. Everyone trembled, trashed and begged once the boat took off to the deep waters. Yet...she jumped.

"Is she in her mind...?", the figure rose from the ground to be followed by the beautiful white silk of his kimono. Its pattern engraved with black water lilies. The water god took a step onto the pond, as the water shuddered and circled around the male's calves. His arm reached down for the waters, as if the pond suddenly turned into depths of the river where the bride was struggling for air. With a harsh tug, as the water crawled his body upwards forming a beautiful dragon, he commanded.

- Go!

It didn't take long for the stormy water in the pond to feel the whips of the rain. The whole Water Kingdom was silenced by the drumming of his powers; just a few bits later, the weather started calming down as the pond waters gathered once again around Habaek to have the beautiful body carefully placed by the water dragon, on the edge of the pond. She was even more beautiful in person, he thought as closed in with a slow pace.

Once he knelt down to uncover the face off the long strands of hair, his silver eyes couldn't help but stare intensely. The small and thin hand retreated as he got up. Yeah, that was right. His small body standing before the bride, just as beautiful as a doll, boy. Habaek silently waited for the other to regain conscious, meanwhile undoing the ties around 'her'.

At one moment he was submerging then all of a sudden he was transported at a small room. He vehemently turned around, inspecting the room with weary eyes.

--Not this again. He can feel his heartbeat sped up. He knew this dream very well, he'll be damned to know what will happen next.

Blood dripped as it slowly smeared his check then rolled downwards his chin. His almost obsidian orbs slowly looked up as he immediately saw a woman dressed in a black kimono hanging on the ceiling with a red rope. The disturbing thing, it was smiling at him with the eyes that could pull him into oblivion.

"Akihiro.." its chilly voice echoed at the dull room.

"Come to----"

*Gasp. His eyes opened wide as he gasped from air, coughing all the water from his system. Left eye closed he kept on coughing until he settled down. The shop owner's breathing had regained to normal but he stole another deep breath as he welcomed the place that greeted his eyes. Overwhelmed, he kept his brows furrowed and at the same time with a mouth half-parted, looking constipated. All thoughts had jammed at his brain fuzzing to be expressed but like the usual he kept silent as his expression subsided into a poker face.

Slowly he turned his head and was greeted by a child with robes. The kid looked serene, sculpted delicately almost like a doll. He was immaculate besides those long lashes. --an entirely unearthly beauty. Was it a male or a female? That he can't really tell due to its robes. He better wait for it to speak, he so thought.

"..." he was at a loss of words, like the usual. He though badly wanted to ask these questions; --where am I? What's this place? Am I dead? Who are you? Are you the reaper? He remained stoic as he greeted the other's unreadable gaze; more or like a steady staring challenge. Though it was a kid, he felt uneasy with its scrutinizing gaze.

Is it his cue to panic? And yes it was.

Beauty, he'd seen enough of beauty. Bravery, well, rather he'd witnessed more foolishness than bravery.

So Habaek had no idea what made him bring the mortal to the Water Kingdom. If anything, even if he saved the girls in passed, he'd forsake them on some unknown lands. After all, they had to be grateful that he even lifted a finger to do something. But there was a rule he set, he forbid anyone from the Water Kingdom to spread the fact that all brides were saved and alive, even if somewhere far away.

The water god sharpened his gaze once he met the other's eyes. The dragon that carried the bride spiraled around Habaek's small body from underneath his feet. The pond seemed to glow in a very gentle silver where his body stood, it was like praising its master's beauty and power. The boy stayed silent briefly, then closed in.

Water. ...Water was a source of youth, beauty, health and power. A mysterious power, they said - nothing could be hidden from the water. For all one's thoughts flow into it,

like rivers flow into the seas. Habaek knew the bride's fears and the darkness within, but he also knew - 'she' didn't want to die.

- They sent me a bride with no manners, Foh. - Habaek slipped a comment, talking to his dragon, - Or could it be she's mute?

His attention turned to the beauty, even though he acted bratty, all he wanted to know was her name.

  • 3 weeks later...

He almost slipped to the ground when he saw a dragon spiraling at the kid. What in the world? Was he still dreaming? He slowly rubbed his eyes like a lost kid, given that he was definitely lost. Droplets of water slid from the hair and down to his chin as he watched the glowing water with fascination.

--he was at lost of words.

To think that he's a man who prefers to listen, Akihiro wanted to speak something for himself beyond this bizarre state. His orbs slowly darted to the regal looking child in front of him as he slowly slid the soaked robes he was wearing. Towering the little child, he stood up as he noted to himself that he might be in a trance or dream-like state.

"Where am I?" His voice croaked out as he lowered his head to the tiny human being, if it was even human, that he didn't know.

He took cautious steps to the pond and surveyed the place a bit like an explorer; completely ignoring the kid. Taking his appearance that was mirrored by the water, his brows knitted in something close to anger. He nearly forgot he's wearing a wig and that's why he felt something heavy. Yanking it out as he ruffled his hair on the process, Akihiro knelt down and rinse himself with all the cosmetics weighing his face.

"Well isn't this peachy..." he murmured to himself. He hated the fact that he knew nothing about his current situation. Alive? Dead? Limbo? --the heck of it.
