Arumi slowly curled himself around the human as he slept, trying to protect the smaller creature. He woke up in the early morning and silently left the room, locking the door behind himself. He went down to the kitchen where the 'cooks' were preparing the finest meats for the royal family. The prince managed to convince the other dragon to actually cook some of the meat for his 'pet'. After a few minutes he returned to his bedroom, walking in quietly and hoping Damian would still be asleep.

Damian woke up the moment Arumi was gone. He was shaking slightly, cold sweat on his forehead, a crazy look in his eyes. He shuffled away into the corner, lightly biting into his fist to get the images of the nightmare out of his head. When the dragon came back, he looked up, his discomfort and fear showing obviously. He couldn't hide it.

Arumi's eyes widened at the sight of the human. He immediately turned into his human form and rushed to the man's side. "Damian? What's wrong? I'm so sorry that I left without telling you, I didn't want to wake you up..." He gently reached out to touch the other's cheek.

Damian hiccuped softly, biting his fist to keep the sounds from coming out. He shook his head slightly, but accepted the soft touch, although a little bit hesitantly. He hated nightmares. They always got to him so bad... They always kept him shaken for at least a few hours after he woke up. The memories of his nightmares often stayed for days, weeks even. He hated them. He absolutely hated them...

Arumi gently wrapped his arms around the human, holding him to his chest in a protective embrace. "I'm sorry... I'm here now, I won't let anything bad happen to you Damian... You're safe" He murmured gently. He wasn't entirely sure what the man was so scared of, but he didn't think now was the time to ask.

Damian gripped onto Arumi when he was hugged, for the moment just desperate for contact. Honestly, he was just human. This all was getting to him, it was too much. He couldn't get a single word out as tears collected in his eyes, along with the lump in his throat. He couldn't take this, at least not so suddenly.

Arumi kept the human in a tight hug, lightly running his fingers through his hair in an attempt to calm him. "I'll find a way to make this right Damian... You're going to be okay, I promise..." The dragon murmured, trying to do whatever possible to calm him down.

Damian sniffled quietly, just tightening his grip on the dragon. He'd never been this goddamn scared before. The brunet rested his cheek on the other's shoulder, letting out a quiet sigh. "Thanks..." He muttered out quietly once he managed to calm down. He didn't let go, though. Not just yet.

Arumi kept gently stroking the human's hair. "Maybe I can find an area where other humans might be living... Then you might be able to find them and live with them..." He suggested. He didn't know how else to calm Damian down, he really was worried about the man.

Damian shook his head, his grip tightening again. "We haven't heard from any other people... Your kind killed them all." He muttered out, tears burning his eyes. Finally, the man slowly pulled away, his head hanging down slightly. "Even if you did find some, They wouldn't want anything to do with me. I'd be too suspicious."

Arumi's shoulders slumped in despair, the guilt only grew more powerful in his chest. "I'm so sorry... I guess all I can do is just let you go... I'll be happy to provide you with whatever supplies would help you start your life on your own..." he kept holding the man close.

Damian's eyes widened as he pushed away, staring at the dragon with terrified eyes. "What... No! You're throwing me out?!" The brunet sounded confused, as well as scared. "I can't- I don't know how..." His voice gave out as the tears he was trying so hard to hold in began rolling down his cheeks. The man was trying to keep himself together, he was, but thinking that Arumi wanted to throw him out into the forest and leave him broke him completely.

Arumi gasped softly at the human's sudden outcry. "What? No, Damian I don't want to throw you out! You asked me to let you go once you were healed, remember?" He took a step towards him. "I want you to stay here with me... Forever... I just thought that you didn't want to be imprisoned here..." The dragon dropped his gaze to the floor. "I... I really care about you Damian, I want you to be happy and j just thought you'd never be happy here"

Damian hiccuped softly, closing his eyes tightly to stop the tears from coming out. The human brought his arms around himself, opening his eyes the slightest bit, although his gaze was turned downwards. He bit down on his lip, only looking up at Arumi when he felt like he could handle it. The closeness took his breath away for a moment and he found himself looking into the dragon's eyes, resisting the urge to hug him close to himself again. "I think... I think I'll be happy with you." He muttered out, his arms tightening around himself.

  • 2 weeks later...

Arumi frowned slightly, keeping his arms loosely wrapped around the human. "Are you sure? I want to make you as happy as I possibly can..." He dropped his gaze to the floor and sighed. "If I manage to become the king I'll be able to protect the other humans and allow them to live outside of those caves... But I can't promise that will happen..."

Damian nodded slightly, moving his arms off of himself before turning around to wrap them around the dragon. "I'll be okay. I... I just need a little time." He murmured out with a sigh, closing his eyes. His arms tightened around Arumi as he squeezed his eyes shut, biting down on his lip. He wasn't sure how he was supposed to live now, but maybe if he wasn't alone he'd manage.

  • 2 weeks later...

Arumi tightened his hold on the human, hugging him close to his chest. "I'll protect you Damian... I swear it on my life" he said softly. "And I will do everything in my power to fix the problems I've caused for you" He hesitated for a moment before pressing a light kiss to the top of the man's head. "When we are alone I would be happy to treat you as if you were my prince... I will do whatever you ask of me"

Damian's body tensed up slightly as the kiss was pressed to the top of his head - he wasn't too sure if he liked it or not yet. Still, the brunet moved to press up against the other, closing his eyes to relax for a little bit. "As a prince? Don't." He let out a quiet, somewhat choked up chuckle before pulling away, his eyes slightly puffy from the tears he'd been trying to hold in. "If anything, I... I just need a friend."

Arumi frowned at the human's words, he had never actually had a friend and even if he did it might be different than a human's idea of friendship. "I'll try my best to do that for you... Please let me know if I do anything wrong, I don't know enough about humans to tell if your relationships are the same as ours"

Damian smiled a bit sheepishly as he nodded, slowly taking the other's hand into his own. "I'm sorry I... This is just a lot to take in." He sighed, biting the inside of his cheek as he took in a deep breath. "I'd be really happy if you didn't throw me out and make sure I'm not... Killed or something."

"Of course I won't do that, I just... I don't know how human friendship works, so I don't know if I can be a good friend for you" Arumi gave the man's hand a light squeeze. "I'll protect you Damian... But I don't know if I can actually make you happy"

Damian's eyes widened a little bit, his throat clenching up for a moment when he heard Arumi's last words. "I..." He chocked up on his own words, tears shimmering in his eyes. He couldn't believe the other actually cared so much about him, it was unreal! "I'm sure you'll be a great friend.."

Arumi managed a slight smile at the human's words. "Thank you... I'll do my best" He leaned down and nuzzled Damian's forehead, it was a friendly gesture to dragons and he assumed it was the same with humans. He just felt so happy that Damian had calmed down a bit.

Damian let out another quiet chuckle when the other nuzzled his forehead against his own, closing his eyes again before leaning against the dragon. Just for a bit, he wanted to stay like this. Arumi's arms around him felt incredibly safe, almost as if they were protecting him from whatever bad there was in the world.

"Would you like me to have someone bring you some food? I can make sure that its cooked for you" Arumi said gently. He didn't want the human to get too hungry since that would just make him feel worse. "And maybe you should lay down for a bit... You must be very stressed"
