Wake up, drink some coffee, go to the office, be sexually harassed by the female employees, win another case, then go home. It was a mundane schedule that Alexander Bonaparte knew all too well. One could argue that his life was exciting -- but he begged to differ. Mentally he cursed the creators of Law and Order, the life of a lawyer was nothing like that. Of course, he hadn't always been so jaded. Way back when, while he was attending law school, life had been more fun. Arguably, his life was perfect. He was open about his sexuality, he was always an honor roll student, he went to plenty of parties and had plenty of friends, and his boyfriend... Well, that was something he couldn't think about anymore. They dated for several months, up until the other decided to up and split. Apparently he had bigger fish to fry. Alexander tried to be supportive, but eventually, his boyfriend abruptly cut contact to pursue his true passion. It made him livid just thinking about it, but past is past, right? With a sigh, he kicked his shoes off, entering his Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. . The faint smell of cinnamon and incense had become sickening to him, as he wanted nothing more than something different. If anything, he could wake up to the smell of someone else, or breakfast being made in the kitchen, or coffee burning that wasn't from Starbucks. Due to his profession, he had to keep his sexuality under wraps -- his boss was well aware and didn't have a problem with it, but she said that it could affect how seriously people took him. Which, unfortunately, was true. Every so often, he would have a one night stand, but he just couldn't afford a serious relationship. Not that he wanted one either; he still couldn't give over that boyfriend from about ten years ago. Alexander sat in front of his computer, logging into his email. Spam. Spam. Female coworker asking for a date. Spam. And a new case. He smiled just slightly, as tedious as it was, he did enjoy his work, and a new case was always interesting. He opened the email and scanned it quickly, his eyes widening at the words: "domestic abuse." Domestic violence was something that had always affected Alexander, as he had witnessed his dad beating his mom multiple times as a child. Being such a renowned lawyer, who had only lost about 2 cases in his entire career, he, naturally, charged a lot. But he made an exception for cases involving rape, child abuse, and domestic violence. The further he looked into the case, the more he wanted to help. Realizing the victim was gay only added to that want, since finding a lawyer to defend something that could be marked as nothing more than a fight between two men would be nearly impossible in this city. Alexander grabbed his phone and dialed the number provided, walking to the kitchen to get a glass of water. They had talked for almost an hour, then agreed to meet up to further discuss things, and so Alexander could meet the plaintiff. The rest of the night was uneventful, and Alexander woke up at the usual time of 7:30am, to shower and dress in his professional attire, then drive to the coffee shop where they agreed to meet via last night's phone call. Personality Hobbies: Drawing, painting, mixed media arts, hiking, movies, and cooking Habits: Taps his fingers and chews his lip when he's nervous, doesn't make eye contact when he's lying Likes: Cute stuff, sweets, animals (especially birds), the outdoors, water, and rainy days Dislikes: Bitter things, boredom, and the dark ------------------------- It had taken hours for Hei to fall asleep the night before he met with his new lawyer. Normally he would have gotten up and worked on a painting but he was sleeping at a friend's house until he sorted things out with his boyfriend, Keith. The young man didn't want to press charges, the two of them had been together for almost four years and he couldn't imagine life without the other. They shared a small apartment and Keith's job made it so that Hei could work minimum hours at his own job and spend more time on art. If that was taken away then he didn't know what he'd have to do. The night seemed to stretch on forever, Hei's arm was in a cast and he had stitches on his left cheek from Keith's recent rage, not to mention a bunch of scratches and bruises. His friend had taken him to the hospital and told him that she couldn't let him keep doing this, it was only getting worse. Hei knew that he hadn't loved Keith for a long time, but didn't know how to get out of it. Fortunately his friend had offered to pay for the lawyer so that Hei didn't have to worry about that. He managed to get to sleep just a few hours before he needed to wake up in the morning. When he got up he had dark circles under his eyes that made him look even worse. The young artist barely bothered with washing his face and brushing his hair, he was going to look like crap no matter what. He went downstairs to where his friend was waiting. She made him eat a small breakfast before getting in her car and driving him to the meeting spot. Hei stared out the window as they drove, his mind wandering back to when he left college. It had seemed so exciting back then, he had saved up money from his part time job, and was going to rent a place with some people he knew.... And it had gone well for awhile, he still had a job but he was also selling his art and had the freedom to meet new people. Everything had gone wrong when he started dating Keith, the other man had become more and more controlling so Hei couldn't go out and publicize his work or set up art shows with people. Before Hei knew what happened his boyfriend had taken complete control of his life and made it so that he couldn't leave him, no matter what. The car finally stopped and Hei got out, thanking his friend before going inside the coffee shop. He wasn't sure how he was going to find the lawyer, the conversation they had the previous night was a blur to him. Everything in the last few days had been a blur, like some kind of horrible nightmare that he was about to wake up from. He stood awkwardly in the door, looking around in a daze before he realized he was going to get in the way and shuffled to the side.
