YellowPerch
Doctor Busher felt guilty for not having known about that matter. As a good doctor, he should have known to ask about the family matters. He concluded that it was just a mess of emotion, and in that very moment tried to make things easier for the two women while they were here. He had looked back up at Issac as he began speaking once more. The nurse he had called for earlier also stepped into the room and began administering drugs. Those that would manage the pain and those that would keep him awake. "I'll call her right away and tell her about it. Just like I told your sister and mother, I'll tell you. I am your doctor and will be here for the three of you until this matter has been settled. No matter what the problem is, just press that red button there by your right hand and I will be here in minutes." Doctor Busher let a smile cross his face. He wanted to make sure that he could assure Issac of his dedication to helping him and his family through this. He would do anything in his power to make sure Issac was comfortable and safe. That was how a good doctor had to be. He began standing from his stool, grabbing his file and the tool he had left on the counter behind him. He had made to the door before he stopped and turned back to Issac. "If you need be I'll be right across the hall. I'm going to go call your mother and let her know of what has happened. I will be back within the hour to check on you." With that he left, leaving Issac alone for moment. When he entered the office across the hall he looked back, making sure Issac could see that was where he was. He sat in the chair behind the desk and pulled the office phone towards him. Then pulled out the business card Bethany gave him the other day. He dialed the numbers on the card. Three rings went through and he thought he might have to leave a message. When she answered his posture perked up, he ended up sitting straight up in his chair "Mrs. Ellis? It's Doctor Busher. I have great news for you. Your son has woken up. Yes, it is wonderful. There is however...some other news. No, nothing dreadful. Issac has amnesia. Yes, he seems to have forgotten many of his memories." The call went on for a couple minutes more. When he hung up the phone Doctor Busher sat quietly at the desk. Now all he had to do was wait. For now, he'd write in the file what he didn't before. BlaqueCatt
As much as Isaac's body wanted him to sleep, the medication he had been given kept him wide awake. He understood that it was so they could monitor his brain activity, but there was nothing to do at hospitals besides sleep. So, because he couldn't even do that, he was bored out of his mind. The red-head had never been the type of person who was comfortable with lazing around all day. While he didn't share his sister's activeness when it came to exercising or going out with friends, he almost always had something to occupy his mind, whether it was reading, writing, or doing assignments for college. As it was, he only had a part-time job since he was only a freshman, but he made it a priority to always be busy. If that was to stave of boredom or to keep him from thinking about his emotions, he wasn't sure. The arrival of a nurse brought the young man from his thoughts. He briefly checked the monitors by his bedside, and upon noticing how Isaac was glaring at the wall, he smiled sympathetically. "Do you want a book?" Isaac turned away from the wall to look at the other man. While his pale face remained blank, there was a spark in his eyes to show his interest. He nodded in response, the the nurse tilted his head, taking a moment to consider what he could give the patient. "Usually people bring their own books, and the only things we have in the waiting rooms are magazines." Isaac rolled his eyes, and the nurse grinned. "But I guess you don't like that stuff. I could give you a medical textbook or something." He had been joking, and he was surprised when Isaac nodded. "Sure." The student was studying to be a lawyer, and he was confident that he would be able to understand what was written. The nurse paused, then shrugged. "I'll bring it to you." As the older man made his way down the hall, he called out to Dr. Busher, "Hey, Yuki. Your patient wants to read a medical textbook! You may have your hands full if he starts correcting you!" YellowPerch
Doctor Busher worried about Issac's mother. All this new information was enough to break someone. She even had to deal with taking care of her other child. Yuki gave the woman props, he remembered the hardships his own mother went through. But as an only child there wasn't the usual stress of dealing with two. Yuki missed his mother, living in separate states he had wished he could visit more. But his job held him back most of the time, if not all the time. He was glad she still had his father to keep her company. Yuki had just finished writing all that he spoke about with Issac when one of the male nurses called out to him from the hall. Shaking his head slowly from side to side, a slight smile on his face, Yuki called back. "Just watch your own back! If he wants a career in medical he night end up taking your job!" He could hear the nurse laugh back, which only made him laugh to himself. It was a game they played between the two, and others would join in on time. When people thought of hospitals and doctors, they always thought of how bad they were. But that wasn't the case, in fact, hospitals were like a home to the staff, the staff having felt like one big family. Things like this made Yuki want to come to work. He felt like he belonged here, going back to the apartment he lived in, no one there to greet him, made him realize all the time just how lonely he was. He shook his head from those thoughts at once. A doctor of his standing couldn't be thinking about that stuff. Besides, sooner rather then later he was determined to find himself someone to live his life out with. He was still a young and healthy man too. Yuki reached down into his drawer and pulled out a medical textbook he had used back in his first year of college. Thinking Issac would be interested in it, he stood form his desk and brought the book to him. He found Issac, staring at nothing in particular when he walked in. He smiled and knocked on the open door. "I heard your in need of a good book. So I brought you one. 'The science of the human body' the first text book I had when I started medical school." He laughed and sat down on the stool beside Isaac's bed, handing him the book at the same time. "How are you feeling? I'm sure your tired too." Yuki looked at his watch, a half hour had gone by since Issac had received the medicine. At least another hour or so of watching his vitals and Issac could sleep all he wanted. BlaqueCatt
Isaac opened his eyes when Yuki walked into the room, blinking a few times before sitting up a bit straighter. "Thanks." He reached out and took the medical textbook, not at all fazed by the thickness or the small print. He had seen worse when looking into future courses at the law school he was attending. "I feel all right, given the circumstances," he replied, turning his gaze from the other man to the book now sitting in his lap. His body was exhausted, but the medication would be keeping his mind alert for about another hour or so. This forced state of awareness allowed him to fully experience the sensations that came with his injuries. Every time he moved, a sharp pain would shoot up his side, and the light brought with it a horrible ache behind his eyes. "It's too bad I can't read yet," he mused. "Not until the concussion is gone." With a heavy sigh the young man placed the book on the table beside his bed, shifting slightly beneath the covers to get into a more comfortable position. He visibly winced, but otherwise kept his expression blank as he settled down again. "Did you talk to my mother?" he asked, gazing up at the pinkette with his icy blue eyes. "I think we live far away, so she won't be here for a while." Random memories were returning as time went on, but they were unevenly spaced and almost none of them held any significance. For example, he could remember that his house was far away, but not his own mother's name. "She's worried, I'm sure." He still sounded oddly calm. "Is there a way to regain memories more quickly?" YellowPerch
Yuki had turned to jot down some more information in the file after having looked at the monitors, while Issac looked down at the book. When he noticed Issac putting the book on the table beside his bed he turned, also realizing the pain that crossed his facial expression. Yuki wanted to help, but there was nothing he could do at this point for him. Issac would just need to wait out the medicine and then he could rest. He frowned however when Issac mentioned not reading the book. "Most my concussion patients look at the pictures in books instead of reading." Yuki kept the file at the counter, leaving nothing between him and Issac. So that he could give him all his attention. "I called your mother. She will be coming soon, I know your worried. I can see it in your expression when you talk about her." Yuki frowned at Issac's question and shook his head from side to side. "I've heard of ways that doctors were using to force memories back into their patients. But I do not agree with there studies. Memories can be altered with the drugs they use. Or something dreadful can happen to your mind. For all I know it can completely kill your brain and kill you right after." Yuki made it clear not only through his voice and words, but through the grim expression he held on his face when speaking of the topic. He wouldn't recommend the drugs at all. He had heard one story of completely making a woman crazy. The hospital ended up having to transfer her to an asylum and in the end they thought she just went crazy, that it wasn't from those drugs she took. Yuki made it clear to all that none of his patients were allowed to authorize their own drugs unless they spoke with him about first.
BlaqueCatt
The auburn-haired young man had to hold back a snide comment about the book; it was a medical textbook, so the only pictures would be diagrams, and it wouldn't be at all interesting to look at the diagrams and not understand what they meant. He's a nice man. I shouldn't make fun of him, even if that was a bit stupid. Isaac never meant to be rude to anyone, but he often flaunted his intelligence without meaning to. It made a lot of people uncomfortable, which resulted in him having very few friends. If I did have friends, they probably would have called by now, he mused somewhat bitterly, glancing to the side and at his phone, which sat silently on the bedside table. Not that it really matters. Even without his memories, he had a feeling that he wasn't the type of person who sought companionship. If only he could understand how lonely he was. Isaac listened attentively to Dr. Busher explain the unorthodox treatment methods that some doctors used. His lips curled into a sneer when the woman was mentioned, and his icy blue eyes took on a dark light. "What idiot would agree to that?" he scoffed, about to shake his head before remembering that the movement would only cause him more pain. "And if that actually happened, the practice should be made illegal." Perhaps I could see to that once I become a lawyer...I'm sure that I'll have many influential 'friends' in Congress. This time he refrained from smirking; it would be so much fun, finally being able to play the game of politics. "I guess I'll have to work on it myself." YellowPerch
"Unfortunately the woman really didn't have a chose in the matter. She had a husband, and as a beneficiary to her will, if say anything were to happen to her, then he would be given full authority over her will. He was the one who told the doctors to do the procedure." Yuki shook his head, remembering the huge law suit the doctor and husband had to go through for potential murder. Somehow they got themselves out of the mess and the practice of the drugs continued. But since then no one had fought back against it. Yuki noticed Issac glance over at his phone. Curious he began asking some more questions, hoping to open up more memories. Even if just a fragment, it was worth a try. He made sure to note everyone of his answers in his own memory, so that when he left the room he could jot them all down in the file. "Do you have a girlfriend, Issac? The fact that your looking at your phone must mean you do." As he waited for the slow answer he knew he'd get from the young man, Yuki continued his questions. "What school do you go to? How about any friends? What's your favorite color?" Although the last question was utterly random, Yuki had noticed through many patients before that their favorite color or anything random like that could trigger a memory. BlaqueCatt
Upon hearing that it had been the husband's decision that had led to his wife's psychotic episode, the young man no longer bothered trying to withhold his scowl. Isaac was a very liberal thinker, and due to growing up with an independent, single mother and a outgoing sister, he had come to be quite the supporter of women's rights. "Of course it was his choice," he muttered, drawing his gaze away from the cellphone and instead turning to glare at the wall again. The red-head was well-known not only for his intelligence, but also his temper; he was quick to anger and frustration when it came to anything that wasn't job-related. When he was working, he was always calm and collected. Isaac sighed, leaning back and listening patiently to Dr. Busher's questions. He snorted derisively--almost self-deprecatingly--when the subject of a girlfriend was mentioned. "I'm pretty sure that I don't have one," he responded somewhat haughtily. "I have no interest in romantic relationships, and even if I did have a girlfriend, she would have called me by now." He ran his fingers through his hair, gently brushing the bandaged wound and testing the pain. "I'm attending college. A law school. I don't remember the name. And I don't believe I have any friends." He looked at Yuki and smirked bitterly. "I can distinctly remember being glared at by every person I've passed in the halls." There was a pause, and then, "I don't really have one." YellowPerch
Yuki sat silently while he listened to Issac's answers. His smile dropping ever so slowly as the boy spoke on. How could Issac feel such loneliness in this moment? When Issac answered all his questions, they sat in silence. Yuki could barely find the words to say in order to find something to turn his thoughts happy. He thought of something, it was a sink or swim moment for Yuki but he took it. Just before asking some more questions he reached forward, gently grabbing Issac's hand and brought it away from his wound. He smiled at him before letting his hand go and placing it back at Issac's side. "I suggest not touching that yet. This might be a pretty sterile room, but your skin can still have bacteria on it that can affect the healing abilities of that wound." Yuki leaned down from his stool and reached into one of the cabinets below the sink and grabbed a box of alcohol wipes. Taking out a package and opening it, Yuki held his hand out, asking for Issac's hands. When Issac held them out, Yuki began wiping his hands with the alcohol wipe. In this doing, Issac's hands would e clean of most of the bacteria he contracted from touching his wound. "Your mother should be here soon, don't you think?" Yuki said, as he swiveled around in his stool and tossed the wipe in the trash. He then stood up and began washing his own hands in the sink with warm water and soap. He was surprised his hands weren't cracked and dry like most his patients come in with in the clinic. Washing his hands as much as he does everyday. He dried his hands on the paper towels that was kept in every room. When he was done, he threw the towel away, sat back in his stool and turned his attention once more back to Issac. BlaqueCatt
As soon as the smile appeared on the older man's face, Isaac's blue eyes narrowed slightly in suspicion. Not many people smiled at him, and whenever his sister did it signaled either a tackle or being made fun of, so he wasn't sure what to expect. His body tensed slightly when the doctor moved, and his stiff expression transformed into one of shock when the pinkette reached up and took his hand by the wrist. He was frozen for a moment, staring at the doctor with wide eyes, before ripping his hand away with more force than necessary and placing it on his lap. Quickly he averted eye contact, trying to cover his unease by glaring at the wall again. When it came to casual contact, such as handshakes, he was well adjusted, and he could handle being examined by a doctor. However, Yuki's touch had been very gentle, similar to the way in which his mother placed her hand on his shoulder, and he found himself unable to deal with it. What the hell? Confusion mixed with irritation, and he huffed under his breath, crossing his arms and leaning back against the pillows. Before he could snap at the man, though, the door to his room opened and Bethany stepped in. She was no longer dressed in her business attire, and her long blonde hair was down and touched her shoulders. She and Isaac stared at each other for a moment before she swallowed and look at Dr. Busher. "Adelaide couldn't come," she began, hoping her voice didn't betray her feelings of growing despair. YellowPerch
The moment Yuki had gentle grasped Issac's hand and pulled it from his wound, he almost gave in to guilt upon the reaction he had recieved. He didn't think he hurt the poor boy, and it was when he tore his eyes from Yuki instead of looking at him did he realize. Yuki smiled gently at Issac, knowing very well that he wasn't completely comfortable with him touching him. Perhaps because he was a doctor? Most likely not, seeing how he was fine with his touched prior to just now. Yuki couldn't think of any reason that would cause him to react in such a way. Besides having been startled and not prepared to feel his touch. Yuki was going to begin speaking to Issac, when his mother walked in. The room fell into silence as the two watched eachother and did nothing more. He stood up from his chair, turning to Bethany as she finally broke the silence. He held out his hand to shake hers in greeting as he spoke to her. "Perhaps she can make it for the next visit. Please have a seat." Yuki ushered her to the chair on the other side of the bed, across from where he sat on his stool. He smiled at her, knowing very well the anxiety level she must be feeling as of this moment. "I know this is going to come at you rather quick, but the two of you in the same room will help us understand his memory process right now. And I'm hoping a positive response comes from it." BlaqueCatt
Bethany reciprocated the handshake before cautiously taking a seat by the side of the bed, her lips pressed into a thin line. Her ocean-blue eyes were unreadable, it was suddenly obvious as to where Isaac had gained his ability to appear expressionless at all times. Once again the two made eye contact, their gazes locked in some sort of staring contest. Then, the woman sighed and folded her hands in her lap, lowering her focus to the floor. "I'm sorry," she said to Isaac, entwining her fingers and squeezing harshly. "I'm just not sure what to do," she admitted, and the redhead frowned; he had the distinct impression that his mother was not one to show weakness, so she wasn't handling his condition as well as he had assumed. "It's fine," he replied casually, and the woman looked up at him in surprise. "The concussion isn't severe, and the amnesia is only temporary. I've already started to recall certain things, though they have seemed meaningless." He moved to run his fingers through his hair, then remembered his injury and forced himself to remain still. It was often that he gave into nervous habits when there was nothing other than emotions to focus on. "I've remembered that my sister's name is Ada and that she irritates me beyond belief." His icy eyes widened when Bethany broke into soft chuckles. When she finished, she was smiling. "It's reassuring to know that you're still my boy," she said fondly, and for the first time, Isaac blushed, a light pink dusting across his pale cheekbones. This only brought more laughter. YellowPerch
Doctor Busher was glad to see that the silence had broken. He wasn't too sure on how he was going to provide any sort of reassurance when Bethany announced she hadn't known what to do or how to feel. When she burst into her own relieved giggles, a smile grazed his lips once more. He watched and listened to the exchange happening between mother and son. He hated to ruin that instant moment. Unfortunately he had to, in order to provide what information he had to Bethany. "What Issac says is correct. The concussion wasn't severe at all. And his injuries are healing rather well." He noticed how Issac tried to touch his head again, but fought the urge. "As far as his memories are concerned, they are coming, small ones, and at rather random times. There have been a couple times I've said something or asked him a question and he remembered something." He smiled at Issac as he said so, showing him how well he was healing. "Now that he's awake we will be able to monitor his brain waves much more. This will be able to tell us what we couldn't see before. We won't do anything more today, due to his concussion. We ended up feeding some medicine through his IV that has kept him awake, so I'm sure he will be fairly exhausted once it wears off." Yuki stopped speaking then, making sure that the two could catch up and ask him questions if they needed to.
BlaqueCatt
Bethany turned to look at the doctor when he started speaking, and she nodded in response when he finished. The initial panic that she had shown upon arriving had faded and been replaced by the quiet determination that she and her children shared. "Is there anything I can do to help?" she asked, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Besides visiting, of course." She faced Isaac once more and gave him a gentle smile. "I'll make sure Adelaide comes next time." In reality, her daughter had not been busy that day; she had been too emotionally unstable to see Isaac. The thought of her brother not remembering her had been too much for her to bear. Now that Bethany was sure that Isaac would recover, however, she would see to it that the young woman was with her the next time they went to the hospital. Isaac blinked after a moment of watching his mother, then sighed and turned away, reclining back against the pillows. He wasn't sure of how to react in such situations, and he felt extremely awkward. Before he could open his mouth to say anything, Bethany reached out and gently placed her hand on his shoulder. Unlike with Yuki, he didn't flinch; his brain recognized it as a familiar touch. "You don't have to say anything," she said softly, the smile never once leaving her face. "You're as easy to read as your father was." Isaac glanced at the hand on his shoulder, and felt his lips twitch slightly, as if he were about to smile. "...Yeah." He sounded slightly subdued; he had just remembered that his father was dead. YellowPerch
Yuki knew she wanted to help. Unfortunately at the very moment there were nothing she could do besides visiting. "Just you being here can be enough. The more you come to visit him and sit with him can help Issac regain his memory." Yuki noticed the gentle touch Bethany placed on Issac's shoulder and how he didn't flinch. If he was fine with Bethany touching him in such a manner perhaps he really was uncomfortable when a doctor touched him. Or perhaps men in general. Since he never flinched when the nurses had touched him. Yuki looked at his watch. "I can leave the two of you alone for now. Before his body falls into exhaustion. In that time I'll start scheduling some more tests later this week. And blood tests for tomorrow." He began to stand up from his stool, tucking his pen back into his coat pocket. He grabbed the file and smiled at both Issac and Bethany. "I'll be in that office once again. Unless you catch me when I'm with another patient. But you can always reach my nurses." He left the room and the two in it. Heading for the office right across the hall. Not first leaving a message with one of the nurses at the nurses station just a ways down the hallway from the office.
BlaqueCatt
"Thank you," Bethany said gently as the man turned to go. She smiled at him, and the sincerity in her deep blue eyes was obvious. "I'd like to look over Isaac's medical report before I go, if that's okay," she added. Once Yuki was gone, she turned back to her son and laced her fingers with the hand closest to her. "You're tired," she commented, gazing into the boy's face. He huffed in embarrassment and looked away, shrugging in response. Her smile widened, and she leaned forward, placing a soft kiss on his cheek. She wasn't usually this intimate with her children, but she felt that the time called for such things. She loved her children, even if she had a hard time expressing it--just like Isaac--but she would do anything to help him regain his memories. "Try to sleep. I'll stay for another few hours, but then I have to get ready for work tomorrow morning. Adelaide and I can come back for a session in the evening." The redhead stared at her for a moment, then nodded. He shifted until he was comfortable, and his blue eyes closed. The woman petted his head, carefully avoiding the wound, until he was asleep. She stayed to watch over him for another hour, as she said she would, before getting up and heading to the nurses' station to ask for the paperwork. YellowPerch
Yuki had managed to schedule all the tests he needed done. The blood work for tomorrow. The second CAT scan some time in the week. Along with every other test that could help him. It had been an hour from the time he started to the time he ended scheduling the tests. In that time he noticed Bethany exit the room and head for the nurse's station. He hadn't left the paperwork with the nurses. Due to confidentiality rules, he had to keep it with himself or filed away behind locked doors. He left the office and got her at the station. "I apologize about that. Here are the files on Issac. Everything he's gone through or we've witnessed has been recorded in here. Perhaps you can find something that might help us help Issac in regaining memories." He handed her the papers and looked down at her. "Speaking of memories, did he find anything while the two of you were alone."
BlaqueCatt
Bethany turned when she heard him approach, and she gave him a small smile. Neither she nor Isaac were very expressive unless suffering with difficult emotions. "Thank you," she said, taking the folder from his hands and tucking it under her arm. "We talked about what he was interested in, for the most part. He remembered the name of his high-school and his college as well as some of his professors. We weren't able to change the topic to anything else, so that's all for now." She held out her hand to him. "I'll look these over when I get home. Adelaide and I will come back in a few days." She had forgotten that she had a meeting the next day and wouldn't be able to make it. "I'll try to think of ways to help him remember." Bethany shook his hand gently, then turned towards the exit. Meanwhile, Isaac had finally fallen asleep.
YellowPerch
"That's certainly a start. Even if it's just small talk, anything you can talk about, just talk." Yuki shook Bethany's hand after he finished talking. And as she left he watched her go until she turned the corner and he could no longer see her. Yuki was about to go check on Issac one more time before he went about his daily tasks, but a beep on his pager stopped him. In bold capitalized letters the words 'CODE GREY! DR. BUSHER, ISOLATION' crossed through the message screen. Yuki clipped his pager back on his belt clip and immediately detoured his way to make it to the isolation rooms. Rooms in which 'crazy' patients were kept. Much like those who were reckless drunks or had mental illnesses that were causing them to riot. Yuki noticed right away a large crowd of nurses and security right outside room thirteen. Room thirteen was occupied by a patient of a serious mental disease. He was host of a dangerous bacteria that ate away at his brain cells and caused blood clots in his veins. Dr. Busher was assigned the task of watching this patient. So if anything serious were to happen, then Yuki would be the suthoritive figure to give every order for the patient. When Yuki got to the room the patient was being held by two security cops and three nurses. Even with those five, the patient still managed to struggle away. Yuki jumped right in, trying to take control of the situation. "I need an anesthetists here now. Get me a pair of those gloves Linda. Dotti if you could scoot over a bit." Yuki was on the ball with things. As they were told, Linda got him a pair of gloves, Dotti moved down just a bit for him to push in and one nurse left to call in an anesthetists. Yuki pulled the gloves quickly and held down on one of the arms of the patient, calling out his name. "George. George look at me! Come on George! I need you to calm down alright?" He looked up at the security guard, hoping he could keep the patient down. When he he knew he could Yuki stood up straight just in time for the anesthetist to make his way into the room. He began unpacking the needle and anesthesia from the case they kept it in. "Dr. Busher I know you need this immediately for this situation but I'm going to need you to fill out the paper work again." "I don't have time for this Doug, give me the needle." Doug tap the needle and pushed out the air from the syringe, then passed it to Yuki. Yuki checked it over before setting it on the table beside him and rolled up the patient's sleeve. George kicked and screamed, much like a child was during a tantrum, luckily enough Doug and one other security guard that had came just earlier pinned him down with the others. "I know it hurts George, but this will help it go away." Yuki grabbed the syringe and brought it to George's arm. It was hard to find any sort of spot to put it, due to the tensing of the patients muscles. He found it, however, in the center of his arm where it bent. Yuki pushed the medicine in and took the needle out immediately after. He kept his thumb on the spot until either the bleeding stopped or the patient began to go under. It was the latter that happened. Slowly, every so slowly, George began to drift into sleep. In this state they could administer more medicine that could help calm his nerves for when he woke up again. Yuki sighed, working as the on call ER doctor always had its disadvantages.
