Plot:

Whether he uses the info as black mail or just begs and pleads constantly for the most popular "girl" to date him, YC finally wins and ends up dating who he'd prefer while MC now is able to talk to someone about his situation. The new school year had just started a few days ago and all of the typical formalities and forums had been filled out and classes and the normal school things were starting to set in. It was a private school but it still was much like any other school; clubs trying to recruit students right on the first day and kids learning each others' names to form certain clicks. The titles of popularity were quick to settle onto certain people and of course, the most beautiful became the most popular.

 

A young student with long black hair, black eyes, and an adorable face was heading into the building and the moment they walked by, men and most of the females flocked and surrounded the figure. She wore a typical female school uniform, however, hers was mostly black. Most of the other girls had a white jacket but this girl's was different, no one knew why but that's how it was. The males clearly flocked because of how beautiful the female was and the girls all wanted to be her friends and hang out with her. To everyone else, there was no doubt that she was the most popular girl in the school… however… to the Principal, the school nurse, and the beauty herself, she wasn't the most popular girl because she wasn't even a female at all. In fact, The one known as Kansei Kirigaya, was in fact a male.

 

Kansei wanted to take a seat near the windows in the second row but a bunch of people basically forced her to sit in the center of the room still in the second row which was just one away from the center of the class. Kirigaya, as everyone called him because no one was friendly enough to call him by his first name, seemed to always be talking to people because he never wanted to be rude to anyone. He had an adorable smile on his face and really did act like a lot of the other girls. He was one of the kindest people and even when some girls wanted a reason to hate him so they could brush off his popularity, he never gave them one. He showed everyone the exact same kindness.

Naoki huffed as he sat down at his desk near the center of the room. Letting his bag drop to the ground with a thud, he leant back in his chair, resting his feet against the table. His phone said it was 10 minutes to 8, "Damn it! I was on time today! Oh well, more time to fuck around, I guess."

He plugged in his headphones, letting the strains of electric guitars block out the rest of the class. Pulling out his notebook, he flipped over to his current drawing. Taking the pen from his pocket, he continued his drawing, a incredibly detailed angel, with large, black wings. Humming along with the music, he barely paid attention to the rather large group of people who sat in front of him. "Must be the Princess and her entourage."

He looked up for a split second, accidentally catching Kirigawa's gaze. "Shit! Look at those eyes! I could drown in them." He turned back to his drawing, shaking his head as he ignored her lingering gaze. He continued his drawing, making a show of not paying attention in class, much to his teacher's resigned annoyance. "He knows that I'm actually paying attention, and my grades are really good, so he just ignores my 'acting out'. Him and all the other staff." He sighed as he discreetly took notes, "A kid's gotta keep up appearances, otherwise he'll get left behind." He felt a familiar frustration building up in him, "Hmph, good thing I've got something planned. I need a good act of vandalism to let it out."

He spent the following classes in a similar fashion, outright ingnoring or aggravating the teachers, while discreetly studying. When the bell rang for lunch break, he slung his bag over his shoulder running through the halls, to much shouting by teachers and students. He arrived at his gangs "HQ", an alleyway just off school grounds. He was surprised to see everyone waiting for him.

"Hey, guys! What's up?" His best friend, and second in command, Mikorin, looked at him nervously, "Well... The boys and I have been talking, and we think it's time for an intervention."

Naoki moved into a fighting stance, they surely weren't going to try to overthrow him? If so, he'd kick all their asses, till they couldn't walk for weeks.

Seeing his shift, Mikorin quickly moved to pacify him, "No no no! You're still our leader and we still respect you! C'mon, man, we've all been through crazy shit together, there's no way we'd kick you out! That is, until you started acting weird."

Naoki stiffened, "How could they know? I was being so careful. Shit! I can't have them telling anybody!"

Mikorin continued talking, "It started with you not checking out chicks as often. You used to be as big a pervert as all of us, and now? You don't even look twice at Mamiko's Double D's! You never join us to peep at the girl's locker, and when was the last time you cat-called Ayana-sensei? At first we thought you had a girlfriend or something, but nothing else changed, and we'd have found out by now, if you didn't tell us. I mean, you'd have rubbed that in our faces like nobody's business! We're getting worried, bro. It's like you're becoming a homo or something, and we can't have a homo leader. So we decided that if you can get a girlfriend, or if we see you trying to get a girlfriend, within the next month, you'll be all clear. During that time, everything will stay the same, except we'll be watching what you do, just to make sure. That's all."

When Mikorin finished talking, he braced himself for a punch, which didn't come. Naoki laughed as his body relaxed with relief, "They aren't kicking me out! I can still fix this! I can panic about the terms later, I just need to play the part now."

"That's it?! Oh my gosh you guys! As if I'd ever become a homo! I was just focusing on getting this one chick I've had my eye on is all!" He emidiately knew that was not the right thing to say. Hs friends all bugged him for details, happy that their friend was still a "man".

Panicking a little, Naoki said the first name that came to mind, "Kirigawa!"

The noise of his friends was almost deafening, "Oi! Let me eat! Break's almost over and we've got places to be next period, remember?"

His friends all sat down, eating fast as they talked amoung themselves, "The Princess? No way." After they finished they scattered, running off to do their part in Naoki's latest prank. Mikorin was the last to leave, patting Naoki on the shoulder, "It's good to know you're still you." He laughed, "I can't be lien I thought you were becoming a homo! What an idiot!" He ran off, leaving Naoki with a sinking feeling in his stomach.

"Shit! Now I've got to try to date the most popular girl in school! And I'm gay!"

Kirigaya had looked behind him and caught the eyes of the number one bad boy in the school. While the other quickly looked away, Kirigaya did not. He was actually interested in what the male was drawing and so, when he caught a glimpse of it, he was absolutely amazed by what he saw. The detail was just incredible. He stared for a while before the teacher said the class was beginning and he quickly noticed the crowd around him had returned to their seats. Kansei pulled out his notebook and made sure to take very detailed notes. He was really smart but he was also playing a role and had to keep up his own appearances.

 

As soon as the lunch bell rang, Kansei pulled out his lunch and was once again swarmed by fans. He looked back to see what progress Orihara had made during class however, when he looked back, the other was gone. Shrugging, Kirigaya turned back to all his fans and had a nice conversation with everyone while eating the bento box he brought for lunch. People continued to ask if the princess was also good at cooking on top of good grades, beauty, upbeat and kind personality, and her unusual athletic ability, for a girl at least. Kirigaya really didn't want to admit how he really was good at cooking but he really didn't have a choice because at this age he couldn't say his mother made it and everyone knew Kirigaya was an only child. Frustrated, he said, "doesn't every guy want a wife who can cook? I have to be sure to practice now!" He smiled which put everyone in awe and several people laughed at the comment while many of the boys commented on wanting to be that lucky husband.

 

When lunch ended, and everyone returned to their seats just before gym, Kansei raised his hand to go to the bathroom. While the teacher wanted to say he should have used the bathroom at lunch, even he each was aware of how hard it was to break away from the crowd the princess was always wrapped in. The teacher also agreed because Kansei rarely ever went to the bathroom in school. This was his first time in years ever going during class. The only time he did go to the bathroom was to change for gym while everyone else changed in the locker rooms. Kirigaya quickly got up and took his gym clothes anyway since they were going to be getting changed soon as it was.

 

Now was the best time to go because everyone else had gone during the break and there was a bathroom in one of the hallways no one used at this time because there weren't any classes around there. It was perfect. Kirigaya may have to act and dress like a girl but he was extremely respectful of girls' privacy and didn't even use the girl's bathroom. He quickly hurried down the halls to make it to the bathroom where he glanced around just to make sure no one was around to follow before slipping into the boy's room. He went to the bathroom and changed as fast as possible while keeping his ears on the door to make sure it wouldn't open. When there was a long silence, he rushed out into the empty hallway.

 

Kirigaya hated having to be sneaky but he really had no choice. The principal and nurse were a lot of help when it came to changing for gym but at times like these, Kansei was on his own. Luckily, he didn't seem to find anyone to see him but what he didn't do was check the bathroom to make sure someone wasn't in one of the other stalls. If there was someone, they were damn quiet. Kansei hurried back to class where everyone was just starting to get changed and heading out for gym. Kansei began making his way outside ahead of everyone else.

Naoki froze as the sound of someone entering the bathroom reverberated through the empty stalls. "Shit! Is it a teacher? I'm soooo busted." Keeping extremely quiet, he peeked out the stall. He had to hold in his yelp of suprise, that's Kirigaya! "What the fuck is she doing in the men's room? And in the middle of class to?" He observed her carfully, making sure not to get caught. "Now that I think about it, she does look kinda like a guy....." He shook his head, "You idiot, you're just trying to make it easier to try to date her. You put yourself in this mess, and dating that chick is gonna fix it. Though now I've got blackmail." He kept quiet as she washed up and left. As soon as he heard her footsteps lessen, he sighed with relief. "That could've been messy." He washed up and snuck out, he had a prank to finish.

Last period brought chaos to the school in the form of three muddy, frightened pigs running through the halls, dragging bells behind them, a naked kid covered in blue dye streaking through the grounds singing the Sailor Moon theme and a hastily pulled fire alarm, soaking everyone in wet glitter.

Somehow, in the panic, Naoki found himself at the bicycle stands alongside Kirigaya. "Now's my chance!" Grabbing her wrist, he quickly pulled her behind the wall, blocking them from view.

"I saw you today! In the men's room!" Seeing her look of panic, he quickly tried to reassure her, "Hey! I don't know what you were doing in there, but I get the feeling that you don't want anyone to know, right?" He waited for her reply, nodding.

"Good! So, in return for me not telling.... You have to date me!" The look on her face annoyed him "Wow, be a little more happy, would ya?"

"Geeze! Its just for a month or two is all, we can "break up" before summer vacation, if you want. Do this for me, and I promise I won't tell anyone! I swear! On my first tattoo! It's only for a month or so! We don't even have to do anything! Just hold hands and be all "lovey" and shit! I mean, we may have to kiss or something, to keep up appearances, but I'm ready to make that sacrifice. So, what do you say? I mean, I can always just let it slip that I saw you in the men's room..."

After all the chaos, Kirigaya was leaving the school absolutely covered in wet glitter that stuck to him. As he left the building, he was pulling the glitter out of his long hair. He had to pass the bike rack on his way to the front gate but he didn't end up making it far before he was grabbed by the wrist and pulled behind a wall. Instantly, Kirigaya began to worry that he was angry at him for watching as the other drew such a detailed picture. Of course the true reason was far worse.

 

He panicked the moment Orihara said "I saw you" and as he continued, it was just getting worse and worse. He was backed completely into a corner and yet, somehow, one of the smartest kids in the class was being a complete moron. How could he not know Kirigaya's secret by now? It really was a bit of a mystery. As Orihara finished his request, the princess put on a frustrated, almost pouty face which just seemed to irritate the other. "Fine, I will date you but I'm not kissing you!! And I don't want to wait until summer to break up… The school year just started and that's like 9 months away… We'll break up just before Christmas… We can exchange gifts, act all lovey dovey and then I will complain about you being too rude and too hopeless to change and we will break up…"

 

He put on a frustrated face and there was no way he'd back down. Like all the other girls, the princess could be just as stubborn. "Before we do this you have to tell me one thing, why do you want to date me so bad that you'd go and blackmail me?" His eyes were like fire. Kirigaya seemed to have more life in him now then he ever had before. That wall he always seemed to have around him seemed to shatter in this moment and he had a strength no princess could ever possess.

Naoki was taken aback by Kirigaya's sudden forcefully speech. "Shit! She's more feisty than I thought. It'll make the break-up more believable, then. That's good. Huh, already I'm wishing for it to be over. I'm such a loser."

He stepped back, hanging his head, "I guess I should tell you, huh." He looked away nervously, running his fingers through his hair. Girls have always said that made him look like a sex god, but it was really just a nervous tick, and he didn't really care what chicks thought of him anyways. He fidgeted around, "Umm, don't tell anyone, okay?" He waited till she nodded.

"Well, my friends told me I had to get a girlfriend by the end of the month or they'll kick me out of the gang. So really, I don't want to date you, you're just... there. Fuck that sounded really mean, I'm sorry." He sighed nervously as he waited for her response.

"Hey, umm. Can I walk you home? I noticed that we both live in the same area. It'll give us time get to know each other better, if we're gonna pull this off right?"

Waiting for her to pick up her bag, which had somehow fallen on the floor, he looked at her, "I'm sorry about the glitter, by the way. It really suits you, though. You look all.... sparkly."

Kansei nodded, he had no interest in telling anyone but found it strange that he was going to say something. Didn't he know that he was giving the most popular kid in the whole school, perfect black mail? If he needed to opt out then the moment Orihara threatened to tell, Kirigaya could do the same thing. The best part was, everyone in the school was more likely to believe their beloved princess instead of a delinquent. Anyway, when Orihara brushed his hair back, Kirigaya was completely unfazed. For what he knew, he still had no attraction to guys so this just wasn't a turn on.

 

As he explained his situation, Kirigaya was respectful enough to listen quietly without judging him until he was being a little rude. Luckily, he quickly apologized which was actually shocking. Kansei couldn't believe this bad boy, who just made a complete mess of the school, was now worried about being rude to him. 'He's probably just trying to be careful because he really is desperate and needs me. He also probably doesn't want to hurt the school Princess or everyone would be up his ass… Ugh… I still wish someone knew I was a guy…'

 

"Sure, I suppose since we are now dating then it's only right you walk me home… each and every day…" He smiled at Orihara but with a flirtatious and fun smile. He wasn't being mean or making fun of the other at all but instead just having some fun. "Oh and since you confessed by apologizing, I suppose these are yours." He pulled a bunch of sparkles out of his hair and flicked them at Orihara. He laughed a cute and innocent laugh as they left school grounds together. When they got far enough away, Kirigaya said, "Now, I have a couple rules. If you want to date me you'll have to play by them. First, no touching me in front of your friends just to try and show off… I know you're that type… I won't kiss you on the lips or go any farther, Got it? Also, I hope to see you at my house tomorrow to pick me up. If you want believable then you will get it so long as you play your part. If you forget the no touching rule then I will kill you. I'm not interested in other guys." If he didn't know before, he knew right then that Kirigaya was in fact a guy. "One more thing, Please no more glitter. I really don't actually like it." The whole walk home, He was busy taking the glitter from his long hair. "Now what should I know about you?"

Kirigaya's sudden playfulness startled Naoki."She actually seems pretty nice, I feel bad for having to blackmail her like this.... Wait... she doesn't like guys? Is she a homo like me? But then why was she...."

Realization dawned on him, "Holy shit you're a dude! I'm right, aren't I? God! I'm such an idiot for not picking up on that!" He realized how loud he had been, and looked around nervously. Thankfully, there was no one in sight.

"Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to shout. And our deal still stands, I won't tell anyone! I swear!" He looked at Kirigaya sincerely. "You know, that explains a lot about you, actually. Like how you're always single, and why people seem to relate to you so much, it's like you're both genders. May I ask why? Are you trans? I won't judge, but I'm very curious. Do any of the teachers know?"

He waited for her reply, genuine curiosity on his face, which soon turned into a look of rage and pity.

"Man, that must suck! Lay all your rants on me, bro! I'll be your friend, if you want that is..." He looked away embarrassed, smiling shyly at her-no his response.

"You know, I don't think this changes anything, except that we'll definitely just stay friends. So yeah, I'll respect your rules, though..." He blushed, "Could I at least hold your hand when we show up at school? I didn't really want to have to touch you, even before I found out you were a guy. It's just that I have to sell it, and everyone will be expecting even more than that so... shouldn't that be fine?" He waited for her response, nodding in acknowledgement.

"Well now, let's see... I guess, if we're to make this believable, you should know more about me then, huh? So first, call me by my first name, Naoki, any way is fine: Nao-kun, Nao-chan, Naoki-kun, Na-chan, whatever is fine by me."

He chuckled at her choice, "Alrighty then, you can call me that. Could I just call you Kiri-chan, or something? I guess you wouldn't want me to call you by your first name, huh? What is it, by the way?"

Kirigaya swung his hand out and backhanded Orihara in the stomach. He glared a bit as the other came to realize what he was doing. Kirigaya couldn't help but let off a small smile when told that he understood both genders. He took that as a compliment because it was for the most part true though he did wish he understood men a little more since he was a guy but growing up with just his mom, as a girl, he really understood females more. "I'm not trans, I have no intention of ever becoming a girl!" He glared roughly but then proceded to explain why he was in this situation and even said that his own mother didn't even remember he was a guy.

 

"So far, the only people who know my secret are the principal, the school nurse, myself, and now you." He looked down sadly as Orihara seemed to get angry about the sittuation. He never had anyone to talk to about it so the other offering to do so, was just the happiest thing for him. "Then one more rule would be, I expect you to listen to my rants!" He smiled that same adorable smile.

 

"I'm also fine with holding hands and if I have to, I will cling to your arm, however, that does not mean you are touching me." When they started talking about names, Kirigaya thought about it for a while before deciding. "You can call me Kansei-Chan and I will call you Nao-kun. Kansei is my first name by the way." The conversation had to end there because they made it to the Kirigaya residents. "This is my house. Be sure to show up at my house at 7 tomorrow. I know that means you'll have to wake up earlier but you want believable right?" He giggled cutely and hurried into the house waving goodbye.

 

His mother asked why Kansei was covered in glitter and who that was. His response was that it was someone planning on pulling a prank on his friend but accidently hit Kansei so he apologized by walking him home. "We'll good," his mother replied. "Now if only all boys could be as gentlemanly as that towards us girls!!" His mother stood proud and walked away.

The next morning brought Naoki panicking as he walked toward Kansei's house. He had taken extra care to look presentable, by his standards, anyway, and even brought a box of expensive chocolates he had found in the kitchen cupboard. "Why the hell am I getting so worked up about this? It's not like we're really dating." He had stayed up late, unable to sleep, and he tried not to let it show as he mustered up his courage and rang the doorbell. No sooner had it rang, then Kansei opened the door, smiling at Naoki as he stammered out a "Good morning, Kansei-chan."

They set off for school, trying not to let the awkwardness sink in. "Hey, Kansei-chan, can I carry your gym bag for you? I didn't bring mine, so it won't be a bother. Besides, couples do that sort of thing, right?" Slinging it over his shoulder, he winced, "Christ! What's in this thing?" He chuckled at Kansei's reply, "Ha! Figures. Oh, yeah, here!" He reached into his pocket, pulling out the box of chocolates and practically shoving them towards Kansei. "I found these in the kitchen, and decided to give them to you, for the hell of it. My mom gets lots of expensive chocolates, so there's always some lying around. She never eats them, so she won't mind."

He smiled at Kansei's reply, then frowned a bit at his inquiry. "My mom is a very popular hostess at an expensive club, so guys are always giving her expensive things. I guess it's not the most "honest" living, but I know that she's just doing what's best for me. But even though we're well off, financially, because of it, it still pisses me off. She's never home, and when she is, she's too tired to even talk to me, so I'm basically ignored. I guess that's why I act out so much..." Naoki trailed of, then started, shaking his head, "Well, that and pranking teachers is just way too fun!" He laughed, trying to lighten the mood.

"Oh, we're almost at the school! I can see other students. The look on everyone's faces, when they find out, will be priceless! What a bonus! This might be my best unintentional prank ever."

Naoki was startled by Kansei linking their arms together and asking Naoki to walk him to class. "Of course, anything for Kansei-chan!" He laughed again as they made their way to class, delighting in the stares and whispers they caused.

"Good morning, Nao-kun." Kansei stepped out of the house and followed the other onto the street to go to school. He glanced over at the first question and didn't really have time to answer before Naoki took his gym bag anyway and slung it over his shoulder with the strange comment. "Hey, I only have my gym clothes and a hair brush. This mess takes forever to deal with so getting wet glitter in it was no easy task to clean!" he smiled at the other just joking around about yesterday's incident. "I did have to wash my hair twice though…"

 

Kirigaya looked down at the box of chocolates forced into his hands and knew these chocolates all too well. These were very expensive. "Thank you. Your mom must be beautiful if so many rich guys are hitting on her." Kansei glanced over at Naoki hoping that wasn't offensive or taken the wrong way. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. I understand if that's her way of providing and you know, it's not necessarily a bad thing. My mom works all day too and my dad's job keeps him basically away from the house all the time. He only comes home about once a month and only for a couple days. My mom wants to spoil me, that's why she goes out and works a lot but she's home at night because she wants to be with me. As much as she wants to be close to me… she'll never know me because she doesn't even remember that I'm a guy." Kirigaya looked down and stared at his shoes.

 

As they walked he moved over and gently shoulder bumped Naoki. "You should tone down the number of pranks you pull on the teachers, and next time, bring your gym clothes!!" He giggled again and as they got onto school grounds, he jumped and latched onto Naoki's arm, pulling it in tight to his chest making every boy nearby green with envy. "Sorry but you're going to get bad mouthed even more now… Best of luck." He was nice and quiet so no one else could hear and he giggled again with a huge smile that would fool even a lie detector.

 

When they made it to class, Kirigaya quickly whispered, "Chair" and waited for Naoki to pull the princess's chair out for her. Everyone was keeping an even greater distance until Naoki sat in his chair and everyone surrounded again asking a hundred different questions. Kirigaya brushed it off like it was a social experiment and that Orihara actually did have a certain charm about him.

Ignoring the rest of the class, Naoki did his best to act normally, stealing occasional glances at Kansei. "Damn it. This is insane! My friends are going to be riding my case like crazy. But still, it beats being kicked out of the gang." Luckily for him, his friends were later then usual, and had missed the drama. Soon after the bell rang, he gathered his things for the next class, which was to be held in the science room. Letting his steps swagger a bit, he walked over to Kansei's desk, which was already surrounded by students.

"Alrighty then. Time to drop a bombshell. This is gonna be fantastic!" Clearing his throat, he ignored the looks from the other students, "Would you like me to carry your books for you, Kansei-chan?" He smiled as she nodded and handed them to him. The room had gone silent.

Then, without warning, chaos ensued. It was as if a riot had started in class. From his friends who were shouting lewd things in encouragement, to the vocally disbelieving and jealous boys, to the even more vocal girls, it was chaos. Students from other classes looked in to see what the fuss was about, only spreading the confusion. Not even the teachers were calm, nearly running to their next class to get away from the disturbance, spreading the news even further.

Amidst all the fuss, Naoki had calmly led Kansei out the door, outright ignoring the mess he had made. Internally delighting at the ridiculousness of it all, he linked his arm with Kansei's, further fueling the fire as they walked calmly to the science classroom.

Followed by a confused and curious student body, Naoki turned to whisper in Kansei's ear, fully aware of the intimacy of the action, "This is so much fun. Everyone's lost their shit!" He pulled away and started laughing, and Kansei soon joined in. When they entered the classroom, he placed Kansei's books neatly on his desk, pulling his chair out for him, like he had that morning.

Once again ignoring the obvious stares of what looked like the entire student body, Naoki sat down next to him, "Hey, what are we gonna even tell them? I kinda want to leave them guessing for a bit longer. It's just so much fun to leave them hanging." He laughed again, spreading out his books in an obvious claim of territory. The rest of the class had filed in, whispering loudly among themselves. No one dared to dispute Naoki's place by Kansei's side, they were to terrified of him to do otherwise.

To say that everyone was distracted in class would be an understatement. The teacher was clearly flustered at the turn of events, making several mistakes but no one was really paying attention anyways. The only one doing school like normal was Kansei, taking perfect notes as he always did. Naoki reverted back to his usual state, drawing in his notebook, but discretely taking notes. As he was sitting so close to Kansei, this meant that the other could see his usually disguised actions. "He'll probably ask me about that later, but who cares?! This is crazy fun! I swear this is the best prank ever! And I didn't event try!" By the time class was nearly over, the tension in the room was skyrocketing, making Naoki brace for impact as soon as the bell rang. "Fuck! And it's only 2nd period."

Kirigaya was a bit worried when the bell rang and he was once again surrounded. He tried to explain again what it was all about but before the explanation could really form into words, a huge bomb was dropped and you'd think the world was ending. He let out what should have been an audible sigh but because of the noise level in the room, it went unheard. HE had to keep playing along no matter what so when Nao-kun offered to carry his things, Kirigaya simply smiled and agreed sliding his books into the other's hands. A couple boys protesting saying they'd carry them but the princess raised her hand and they backed off like loyal dogs.

 

As they walked down the hall towards their science class, Kansei jumped slightly as Naoki linked their arms. "Hey, One of my rules was I touch or grab your arm, not the other way around." Despite his protest, Kansei left their arms linked and even leaned into him more. When they got there, Kirigaya planned on just seating himself but once more, his chair was drawn back and he smiled sweetly at being treated so well. When Naoki had mentioned how everyone lost their shit and laughed, the princess quickly frowned and told him how it made her feel bad but she laughed for show. The bad boy's question was left with a hesitated answer as Kansei watched Naoki spread his stuff all over the table.

 

"I already tried to explain and I plan to do so more or I'm not going to be able to keep my distance and people are going to want to carry my things, walk me home, or worse, follow me to the bathroom to have "Girl time" or gossip talks… or whatever they're called." He closed his mouth as everyone filed in and the class was one of the least productive classes Kansei had ever taken because the teacher couldn't even get through a quarter of the material. The princess frowned a bit but couldn't help but smile when he noticed the other taking diligent notes beyond the pictures.

 

They had one more class before lunch and then gym right after that. Kirigaya knew he had to nip this insanity in the butt right away so when the bell rang and the chaos roared again, the princess stood up and talked to a few people about what she was doing. Many people seemed to understand and Kansei put on such an act that it was scary for the one who knew the truth. She explained that she was doing an experiment to try and change the worst kid in the school to be at least a gentleman towards girls. It made the boys jealous and frustrated but all the girls were in awe and in total support. There was still chaos but things seemed to level off a little more.

 

They went back to their classroom for history and when lunch came around, Kansei jumped up and drew Naoki away as his friends began to approach. He situated them in an even more crowded area for some reason. That reason became clear quickly. Kansei was trying to help keep Naoki away from the rest of his gang so they could settle down before harassing him about this and in a huge crowd, there was no way they'd be able to get close. If they tried, the whole school would rise up and refuse to let the group gang up on the princess. The crowd actually gave them the privacy they wanted.

Letting himself be led, Naoki was surprised by the privacy given by being the center of attention. "Huh. Who'd've thought I'd ever be here: With the "in crowd." It's weird not being a pariah, but... I kinda like it." He turned to Kansei, "You're pretty damn clever aren't you? I mean, you'd have to be, with you being..." He smiled, "Heck, if I'd been just a little more cunning I wouldn't be in this situation."

Somehow they managed to make it till lunch without incident, putting up a perfect facade. Deciding it was best to eat lunch separately, Naoki made his way to his gangs usual spot. He was immediately surrounded by his friends; all of them congratulating him on his "conquest" of the school's "princess".

"Guys! It wasn't like that! The only reason we're together is because she want to "reform" me." At their loud protests he smirked, "Chill, the only "reforming" is gonna be me hanging out less so I have more time to corrupt her properly." "I'm lying through my teeth here, I'm such a loser. I can't even come out properly. Although, from a certain perspective, I kinda have a boyfriend. Whoop-dee-fucking-do." He then slipped back into his old persona, fitting in, like he always had. He managed to get away quickly, though, finding Kansei before the bell rang. "Hey, you want me to carry your shit for you for the rest of the day or not?"

Kansei had expected to eat lunch with Noaki but before he knew it, the class clown had vanished beyond the crowd and didn't return until nearly the end of break. The princess was surprised he wasn't taking advantage of them being some kind of cute couple at the lunch table. Surprisingly, Kirigaya knew some really great ways to send all the students into a complete uproar and yet, the only chance of that working was now gone to hang with his friends.

 

Kansei had gotten up a bit early because he preferred to eat in the classroom because of the cafe being way too noisy. A small group of boys approached and offered to carry his things, throw away his trash, and walk him back to his class. The princess quickly recreated her distant relationship between her and the rest of the students but realized people were beginning to tear down the wall. Kansei was scared that he wouldn't be able to keep everyone back any longer.

 

On his way back towards the class, Naoki quickly caught up and began talking in a crude tone about carrying Kansei's things. "You don't have to carry my things, I can handle it." That same distant attitude Kirigaya used earlier was still hanging around and it was clear there was probably something wrong. The good thing about Kansei was that he didn't hide showing that something was wrong and when the two showed up at the classroom, the whole class seemed to erupt in anger. The princess easily walked to her seat while the rest of the class didn't even let Naoki take a single step into the room. Everyone was interrogating him as to why Kansei looked even more distant, sad, and a bit irked.

"The hell is going on with Kansei?.... I guess I was being kinda rude (I'm always like that after hanging with the gang) but he didn't have to be so... cold. Has he forgotten the role we're playing?"

He couldn't even make it into the room without telling the whole class what's wrong, "Look, guys, it's natural for a couple to have a few fights. Just so you know, I'm going to apologize, as soon as I can."

That seemed to mollify the crowd, who then went to their seats. Sitting behind Kansei, Naoki quickly wrote a note then put it in Kansei's desk.

 

"Hey, I'm sorry if I pissed you off, please don't be mad. Was it because I didn't eat lunch with you? You know that I'm doing this to stay in my gang, right? What would be the point if I didn't hang out with them? Shit, that probably sounded mean. For the record, I actually like you, as a person. So even though I'm "using" you, I'm kinda glad I get to know you better."

He fidgeted all throughout class, suddenly very much aware of the class' eyes on them. "Why am I so nervous? I mean, I knew this'd be hard but.... why am I feeling so....nervous....." He froze, "No! Don't go there! I know that it's an amazing coincidence that I'm actually "dating" a guy, but.... no. I'm just desperate for a boyfriend, so I'm imprinting on the first dude that's nice to me. He's probably straight! I mean, he crossdresses, but that has nothing to do with sexuality!" He realized that he probably looked incredibly panicked and nervous. Schooling his features, he quickly came up with a conclusion, "If my feelings don't go away in a week, then I'll consider sounding out Kansei. After all, I can't lose my "girlfriend," just because I confessed to him! Damn this is weird."

When the bell rang, he jolted, nervous about what Kansei would do.

In between writing down notes for the class, Kansei managed to read the note and write a reply. He carefully tore the small pen sketch away from the note and wrote his response on the back of the paper while sticking the picture of the rose in his notebook for safe keepings. She quickly made it look like she was laughing to calm the class way down so the teacher would also stop making mistakes because of the cold and vicious atmosphere.

 

While continuing to pack away his things, just before the bell rang, Kansei reached back and placed the note with the response on the back, on Naoki's desk and got up to head for the hallway, mixing into the crowd. It was hard to vanish into the crowd because of his long beautiful hair standing out and that he seemed to be standing in a bubble with the space people gave him.

 

The note read:

 

You probably shouldn't be spilling so much info onto a piece of paper… too easily tracked. Tip, couples always eat together. If you don't eat lunch together then it's a huge red flag and believe me, people won't be upset at me for ditching you to go eat somewhere else but you are already riding a dangerous road. One slip and you're out of the game.

 

Ps. I really like the rose and plan to keep it.

 

 

Kirigaya didn't go very far. He made it to his shoe locker and switched his shoes before waiting there near the door for Naoki to walk him home. Another group of boys offered but he shook his head and said he planned to make sure Nao-kun was truly sorry. They laughed and cheered their princess on before heading off. Before Naoki could have realized where Kansei had gone and caught up, his gang had shown and quickly surrounded her like sharks. The princess quickly glanced between the men and went on high alert mode but in no way would be able to do anything if they tried anything.

The gang surrounded Kansei, leering in a manner they thought was cool and threatening, but was really immature. "Hey, do you know who we are, Princess?" The obvious leader spat out the last word.

Kansei replied, with a roll of his eyes, "Of course I know you."

"Good! Then you know we mean business wage we say that if you break Naoki's heat, we'll break your bones."

"You guys couldn't lay a finger on me without having to fight the entire school… at once." Kansei retorted.

"So? We'll still be able to hurt you." The leader, leaned forward threateningly, "You see, having this relationship go well is important for our group, in a way you'll never understand."

"If you're doing this to get into the "in crowd," then I'll break up with Nao-kun now!"

They all laughed, "Ha! Like we care about your stupid "in crowd"! This is about Naoki, and doing what's best for him. He'll be thanking us for forcing it later."

"Thanking you?" Kansei knew the reason but wanted more info from more sources.

"Well, yeah. It wouldn't be good for him to actually become a homo, right? It's better for him to knock it off before it's too late. I mean, we can't have a fag for our leader, that's just gross. He might hit on us!" They all made gagging noises, "That's why we told him to date a chick, or he's out."

'Knew it' For some reason that really pissed Kansei off. He was just about to explode when Naoki rushed in, looking received, "Hey, Kansei-chan! There you are! I thought we were going to leave together...." He froze in place, as he saw the situation before him, "Oh, hey guys," he said nervously, "What're you going here, Mikorin?"

The boy who had spoken smiled, "Oh, nothing much, Naoki. Just letting your little princess here know the score." He smirked as he saw Naoki's face fall in dejection, "Come on boys, our work here is done. Let's leave the two lovebirds in peace." They then left, with a final leer in their direction.

Naoki turned to Kansei, "Let's go." The first half of the walk, nothing was said. Naoki was too nervous, "Shit he knows now doesn't he? Damn, everything's really gone to shit."

When they were closer to Kansei's house, Naoki stopped them, "I'm just gonna assume they told you that I'm gay, and if not, well then, you know now." He looked incredibly nervous and distressed, "I'm sorry for not telling you, but it's not like I can help it that I like guys. You probably want to call it off now, huh? I mean, you wouldn't want me falling in love with you." He choked on a sob, "I mean, that's why they want me gone, they think I'm gross. And they're right. I'm in love with Mikorin, and I can't even tell him. He'll just beat me up and then never talk to me again."

He turned away as tears filled his eyes, "Well now, you're probably grossed out now, right? The fag is crying in public." He started to walk away, "I don't even care anymore. I won't tell your secret, but the deal's off."

"THAT IS IT!!! WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?! I'll teach them NOT to mess with me. I'll beat them so hard at their own game they'll never question your sexuality again!! Got that?!" Glances over. "Where are you going?! Get over here!!." Kansei ran over and grabbed Naoki's wrist and pulled him the rest of the way to his house and right in the door. It was obvious he never listened to a single word Naoki had just said to him. He was fuming so badly now it was actually petrifying.

 

Kansei's mom went to greet her but instantly shut up upon seeing her "Daughter's" furious determination. Her mother was also pretty shocked to see the same boy from the day before, the troublemaker/gentleman, being dragged right up stairs. To try and defuse the situation and make sure nothing else bad was happening, Kansei's mother went and made some tea for the two.

 

The princess shoved Naoki onto her bed and tossed her bag to the side. The room was actually very confusing. The walls were a blue green color while the bedding was a purple zebra print. There were sports posters and a single poster of a boy band over the back of the bed. There were comic books of all kinds practically land sliding out of the closet and a pile of female fashion magazines on the desk next to the door. His room was just as confusing as his gender.

 

"Alright, so here's the plan, tomorrow is saturday and you're taking me on a date, got that? Wear something simple but not trashy, got it? Wear something like a shirt, jacket, and a pair of jeans or something. Don't forget a belt, I don't need you wearing your pants down around your ankles… Of course that goes for me too. I'll wear something nice as well but you don't have to worry about that. You can feel free to tell your "Buddies" that we are going to the mall with me on a date and that we will also be going to the movies and then dinner after!" Kansei stormed over and got on his lap top to see movie times and picked a time where a bunch of different movies were all playing within 20 minutes of each other. That would be when they go.

 

"Naoki, you also have to pick a place for dinner. Surprise me and I don't even care if it's a fast food restaurant got it?" His determination was absolutely amazing. Just then there was a knock on the door and Kansei's mother came in to offer them tea. "Sorry mom, I was just trying to talk some confidence into him. He failed the last quiz and was afraid of failing the test so I wanted to help him find the confidence to keep trying and study more."

 

"I see," the woman said placing down the drinks on the desk. "Well then I will leave you to study. I was so worried, I haven't seen you so angry before Kansei-chan"

 

"Don't worry about me mom." Kansei gave a reassuring smile and her mom walked out and went back down stairs. "Tea?" He asked turning back to Naoki.

Naoki let himself be dragged into the house. He barely registered Kansei's mother standing there, as he was dragged to Kansei's room, "No.. wait... this isn't how it's supposed to go! He's supposed to leave me! He's supposed to be disgusted! Why is he being so nice to me?"

He took in the room, feeling awkward as Kansei continued to shoot directions at him, "He's asking me out? Does he even understand what I am?" All he could do was nod, numbly, a sense of gratitude starting to seep into his mind. "Why do you have to be so perfect? Why won't you hit me?"

He tuned out Kansei's conversation with his mother, knowing that everything said was falsehoods. He picked up a random comic book and smiled, if he wasn't already falling for Kansei... He shook himself when he was offered tea, a shy smile on his face, "Thanks."

He sat on the floor, looking anywhere but at Kansei, "Umm, you don't have to do all this for me, you know? I mean, why are you being so nice to me? I basically told you that I like boys and am kinda in love with my homophobic best friend, shouldn't you be getting away from me? Not asking me out?"

"Stupid, your stuck with me until I say we're done." He smiled at Naoki with that adorable smile he always put on, sitting on the bed. "Besides, I've known for a while that you were gay I just had your friends confirm it for me." He leaned back a little with a smile towards the ceiling as if saying that he was far smarter, in a slightly smug way. "Anyway, I honestly know how you feel, trying to hide who you really are behind a mask… not recognizing the person staring back at you in the mirror more and more each day… You know I'm similar to you."

 

Kansei had given Naoki his tea and got up again to grab his as he sat right back on the bed. "If you want we could do some homework for a while since that is what my mom thinks we're doing… or we could just read some comics and I'll just tell her we ran through the material." He took a sip of tea while watching Naoki and waiting for his response. He couldn't understand why Naoki wanted to push him away so much or maybe expected to be pushed away. The princess wanted to help and honestly didn't care that this man was gay. Sure it made thinks a little awkward because Kansei was a guy but sometimes he forgot he was since he was so wrapped up in being a woman.

As he drank his tea, Naoki listened with growing affection and gratitude to Kansei speak. Although, he did sputter a little when he said that he had know about his sexuality all along. "Am I that obvious? He nodded silently, his lips twitching in an almost smile of comradery, "He's right. We have so much in common... and not just taste in comic books."

A small, shy smile showed on his face, and he nodded eagerly when Kansei suggested they do homework, "Let's study for a bit then. I'd feel less guilty about lying to your mom, that way. Although, your X-Men selection is awesome! Could we read together later? It's just that.. I just actually want to study..." He blushed faintly, "Bad Boy delinquents in gangs aren't supposed to enjoy schoolwork, but.. I actually enjoy learning. The teachers know that, so they ignore most of my.. outbursts because I get good grades. My gang just thinks it's because they're scared of me, it's part of how I became the leader, actually. They'd kick me out if they found out it was because I actually study." He sighed, the former smile having turned into a slightly pained expression. "Well, that and me being gay..."

He shook himself, "Well, that enough of me spilling my guts to a comparative stranger." He pulled out his notebook and textbooks, a pen almost materializing in his hand from his pocket. "Let's study." He then turned to his textbook, trying to ignore the growing panic, "This is getting way too deep, way too fast! I was supposed to just "date" a girl and get back in the gang's good books. But then again.. I guess nothing about this could ever be simple."

Kansei smiled and even laughed a little as Naoki went on about studying and the gang. "Honestly, I don't understand why you are even in the gang. You're smart, study, you're good-looking, and you draw like a boss," he chuckled a little. "You could be anything you wanted and this gang doesn't seem to be any good for you if your friendship lies on such breakable eggshells. Then again, you did say you loved your best friend and yet knew he wouldn't except your love so I guess the only way to still enjoy your feelings is to be around him wearing that mask of yours." He had grabbed his note books and sat next to Naoki.

 

"Hey, I promise I'm here for you no matter what you choose." He gave such a gentle smile that it made all the other smiles he made in school, look fake. "Alright, now for studying!" He put on his determined face and they began going over the material for the english test they had coming up in a few days. 'This is actually really nice… so this is what it's like to study with someone? I like it… He's actually a pretty cool guy.'

 

When they'd gone over all the materials, Kansei walked to his closet and opened the door to show several other piles of comics. He pulled out a few of his favorite X-Men ones and walked over to Naoki again placing them on the ground in front of him. "These are my favorites, you can pick one of these or any others you like if you want to read something else."

Naoki smiled faintly, feeling himself slowly get comfortable in Kansei's presence. Not only was studying together very fun and enjoyable, but he realised that they actually have a lot in common.

Kansei is a very nice person. To bad that his mom makes him dress as a girl. He deserves to be in a good relationship... No! Don't even think about it! He's very much straight, he would've said something if he wasn't. Gender identity is different from sexual orientation... Unless he doesn't want me to hit on him... God! I'm such a mess!

When Kansei pulled out the comics, Naoki welcomed the distraction, "Oh wow! I looove X-Men! I've had a crush on Quicksilver since I was five!" In barely any time at all, he was gushing, exclaiming happily as he read through the comic books. He was becoming extremely comfortable here and he barely noticed as the time flew by.

Looking up at the clock, he paused in his tirade about the inaccuracies of the films. "Oh, it's late, huh? I'm sorry. I was the only one talking." His fingers ran through his hair, a nervous habit, and he bit on his lip. "I'm not overstaying my welcome am I? Does your mom not mind me being in your room?"

Kansei enjoyed the company and was thrilled to not have to hid who he really was for the first time in his life. He could finally be the gender he'd been born and the one he preferred to be, as long as he was still with Naoki here. Reading the comics was even more enjoyable then the studying and surprisingly, Kansei actually liked listening to Naoki talk about his love for Quicksilver and how much he enjoyed certain comics that were pulled out.

 

Kirigaya finally looked at the time when it was mentioned and he shook his head. "My mom is the type to voice her opinion if she doesn't like something so since she hasn't said anything so far, she doesn't seem to mind. Besides at this point you have to stay for dinner." She gave that adorable smile again quickly before giving the puppy-dog eyes when he was clearly about to refuse. 'Why am I doing this? If he wants to leave I should let him… This isn't like me...'

 

"DINNER!" Mrs. Kirigaya called from down stairs. When the two came down she smiled at Naoki and said, "you have to at least stay for dinner. You can call your parents so they don't worry but please stay. I do hope your studies went well also?"

 

"Yes mom, we studied a whole lot and it helped me as well."

 

"I'm glad," She smiled and finished putting dinner on the table.
