shelbyD
The next three days were probably the longest of his entire life. His vision has slowly, very slowly, came back to him and he could now make out things if they were at least 4 inches from his face. Everything beyond that was a blur, but it was better than the horrifying pitch-blackness that he had dealt with at first. His brother visited each day and his sister Jennet joined him yesterday, but had left her daughter at home with her husband due to the pink eye. Louise had visited earlier in the day during her lunch break, so she couldn’t stay very long. Despite his visitors, he couldn’t focus on much other than the fact that he had heard Ryan had yet to wake up. With every day that passed, more and more anxiety built up inside him, but there was nothing he could about it since his ‘lovely’ doctor wouldn’t let him go see his lover. So instead, he laid in his bed (they had taken off his restraints the first night), idly flipping through the channels of a TV he couldn’t make out. Somehow, his phone had made it out alright, so his brother managed to get a hold of it for him and once Braydon could make things out farther than an inch away from his face, he played on his phone. Sure, it was so close to his face that it looked kind of ridiculous, but it was all he had. He had been so into a game of Candy Crush that he hadn’t noticed the door to his room opening and nearly jumped out of skin at the voice of Dr. York. “Hello, Mr. Strom. It seems that Mr. Clarkson has woken up. As long as you remain calm and don’t cause a scene, I can take you to see him.” At the mention of Ryan, Braydon’s head whipped around to look at the blurry figure of Dr. York. She had ended up being a full-figured woman with a chin length red bob. When she had come in to do his morning evaluation, she had done some eye tests and he had managed to make out the fact that she was probably in her thirties. To her side, he could barely make out what he figured was male nurse and he had his hands on what appeared to be wheel chair. “OK-“ Braydon stopped as he realized he was doing the exact opposite of what he had been told to do. He turned down the volume of his voice and continued, “Alright, I’ll be good. Just let me see him, please.” His voice took on a pleading note and she nodded to the nurse who wheeled the chair towards him before helping him into it at a very slow and slightly painful pace. His entire body ached, but he would have gone through the pain a million times over to see his lover. They hooked his IV bag to a hook that extended from the wheelchair and took him into a brightly lit hallway. His room had been dimmed, so the sudden light caused him to squint the entire way. After about what seemed forever, but was probably no more than 3 or 4 minutes, they reached a room much like his. Inside, he could make out the figure of who he was pretty sure was Camilla, but his eyes only lingered on her for a brief second before they focused on the person in the hospital bed. He could barely see them, but he knew that it was Ryan without a single doubt. He looked up at the nurse imploringly, who was in fact male, and was rolled up to the bed. He tried to speak, but he couldn’t seem to find the right words to describe what he felt, so all he ended up saying was, “Ryan.”
Zombie_In_A_Box
Ryan was only able to listen to his sister, weakly motioning for her to help him sit up. His doctor appeared, almost magically, greeting him. "You really scared us there, Mr. Clarkson." He seemed relieved to see his patient awake, though. Ryan was finally helped to sit up, although it was more laying against the pillows than actually sitting. For the first time, when he was asked to wiggle his toes, he could. He could wiggle his toes, he could move them, he could see them move... That was the best feeling ever. Well, until he heard Braydon's voice. Tears welled up in his eyes as he turned his head, painfully slowly, the sight of his boyfriend blurred by the tears. He moved his hand in hopes of finding the other's, a weak smile on his face. "Baby..." He managed to mutter out, gently squeezing his hand. He sniffled quietly, finally entwining their fingers. "I missed you... So much..." He was barely able to speak, and the crying made it even harder, but he just had to say something. Anything. Words couldn't show how happy he was to see Braydon again... But could he see him? "Braydon... Can... Can y-you... See me?.." Ryan asked, his voice shaky, soaked with fear. "I'm so sorry." He whispered out, a hiccup ending his words. In a situation like this, he could barely see anything to be positive about. It was his fault. He caused the crash. They would end up being broke... And what if Braydon lost his eyesight forever? He ruined their lives, he completely destroyed all happiness they had.
shelbyD
The feeling of his boyfriend’s hand finding his and intertwining their fingers was indescribable. He thought was he was happen when his vision first began to clear up, but that was absolutely nothing compared to this. The sound of Ryan’s voice was even more amazing. It was quiet, but it was there and that was something he never thought he would hear again. He gave the other his best smile and weakly reached out his other hand to lay it over their combined ones. Leaning forward was painful, but it was worth it when he could see the beautiful face of his lover better. It was still blurry, but it was there. Tears pricked at his eyes and he blinked a few times to hold them back, but the effort was for nothing since they fell anyways. “I missed you too, love.” His voice was thick with emotion and he struggled with what he should say first. He wanted to yell at him, tell him that he was terrified of losing him, that it wasn’t his fault the wreck had happened, but he couldn’t find the words to convey these feelings, so he went with answering Ryan’s question first. “I-I can see, but it’s blurry. However, they think I’ll gain my full ability to see within a month or so. At the worst, I’ll have to wear glasses.” Okay, so that wasn’t the entire truth, they did tell him that he might not be able to drive if it didn’t recover to a certain extent, but he didn’t think it was the best time to mention that. “How about you? They said y-you couldn’t move your legs, but were going to have surgery… Did it work? Can they move?” He asked glancing down at Ryan’s blurred legs. He squeezed the man’s hand and used his other hand to wipe the other’s tears, or well, he hoped he got the tears and didn’t poke Ryan in the eye or something. He felt the wetness on his fingers, so he figured he at least got some of it. A soft sigh escaped as he brought his hand back down to lay over theirs. He needed to reassure his love that it wasn’t his fault. If they really wanted to blame someone, they should be blaming Braydon for losing his focus and not doing his best to pay attention to the road. “It isn’t your fault, so don’t blame yourself. Besides, what’s done is done. Honestly, it could have been worse; one or even both of us could be dead. I’d rather lose my eyesight completely then have to live in a world without you.”
Zombie_In_A_Box
Ryan felt as if a heavy stone was gone from his chest when Braydon told him he could see... And would hopefully regain the full ability to do so. He could feel a small, soft smile on his face when he heard that, tears slowly rolling down his cheeks. He brought their connected hands to his mouth, pressing a soft kiss to his boyfriend's. It was hard to move so much, and he could see his doctor moving a little bit, as if wanting to stop him... Yet he didn't care. He could see the man he loved most, alive at the very least. "It worked." He whispered, smiling through his tears. To prove it, he lifted the leg that wasn't broken the slightest bit, trying not to strain himself and wiggled his toes. "See?" A quiet laugh, mixed with a hiccup passed his lips as he leaned into the other's touch. It wasn't the same as before, but he was sure they would both get to it. They would both return to how they were, and this would all be forgotten... He hoped so, at least. As he listened to Braydon speak further, Ryan could feel his throat tightening up, feeling as if he was about to start sobbing. No words could have been used to express how he felt, at least about the second part... He still felt like he was the one at fault - he was. He distracted Braydon from the road, he really ruined everything. "Baby..." The ginger smiled through his tears, just hiding how he felt for now. He had to try and be happy, as happy as anyone could be in such a situation. "I love you, so so much." He muttered softly, kissing Braydon's knuckles again. He doubted he would be allowed to lean in close enough to actually kiss him - there was still something on his spine, probably to keep everything safe.
