He's got some behavioral issues I know he needs to work on BUT I recently discovered his love for the outdoors. Meaning he tries to make a break for it every time the door is opened and this is troublesome since I live in a community area (rv park to be exact). Catching him is just as troublesome since he likes to turn it into a game of chase. I've looked all over the internet for best training options to teach him that home is safe and that he shouldn't go outside without a leash on. I have a good general idea on how to handle this situation but I was curious to see what kind of other methods people have used. So here's my question to you all, what have you done the past with your pet to train them or what do you think might help curve his habit? Kokuran Posted October 16, 2015 Share Posted October 16, 2015 Bribery. Worked beautifully for my big German shepherd. You just have to make sure, that your dog only takes bribes from you and from people whom you have cleared specifically as friends to him. Way to dangerous should he take bribes from everybody. So far we've been making great progress with recall by teaching him to return to my hand when I blow the whistle, say his name followed by "come", sternly, and he's rewarded with a click and a piece of chicken. Since I have no fence and can't put one up I think the flags might be a great idea to establish his territory. Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. I'll definitely keep that in mind.
