Yukio tilted his head a little and added a hint of mischief to his smirk. "I may or may not be trying." He may be bottom in their relationship but he was quite sadistic.

His expression turned neutral again when Lan started a question - and flinched even harder as Caleb's voice appeared. His heartbeat rising. Wow. What the fuck. That had scared him.

"Don't worry about it." The raven whispered quietly and stole another short kiss from Lan, before taking his arms off Lan's neck. "We should just not disturb your son with it." A kid would not understand this, he thought.

"Yeah... I know" Lan sighed softly as Yukio pulled away, he wanted the moment to last longer. "We can talk later..?" He gave the other a slight smile before going into the living room.

"I'm right here Caleb" He said, gently pulling the boy into his arms. "Are you okay..?"

Caleb sniggled into his chest. "Had a bad dream..." He mumbled.

A sigh escaped his mouth when Lan left for the living room. Yukio leaned against the counter and looked over the shoulder out of the window. After a moment, he pushed himself into a standing position again and closed mentioned window. No, he didn't damn Caleb or something. He just kind of couldn't handle kids generally. Nor could they deal with him usually.

He put his glass into the dish washer and then left the kitchen as well. "Now, do you want to go to the playground after Lunch?" He asked the both of them carefully. Also he told himself to start cooking in a few.

Lan let Caleb tell him about the bad dream while hugging him tightly. He murmured comforting words to his son until he stopped trembling.

When he heard Yukio's voice he looked up and smiled. "Yeah, that'd be great... I can make lunch if you just wanna relax for a few minutes? You've been doing so much for us I feel bad for not helping out more..." He knew that he should take advantage of the other's kindness and just spend time with Caleb, but he already had so much guilt from showing up on Yukio's doorstep...

"If you promise to not burn my kitchen down, I will. Even though I am quite relaxed," Yukio said, before nodding towards Caleb. "Do you want to watch a movie or something?" His glance went back towards Lan. "Because then I'll be working on my laptop," he added, sliding his hands into his jean's pockets. "Nobody ever uses the TV anyway. And I have rather old DVD's and many channels." He didn't know what kids enjoyed these days. He had barely watched TV when being young, to be honest.

"I'll do my best" Lan laughed softly. He gently set Caleb back down on the floor. "Are you gonna be okay waiting out here while daddy makes lunch?" He asked gently.

Caleb whimpered softly and clung to Lan's leg.

"Ill be just in the other room... And Yukio's really nice, he won't be mean... Right?" He smiled at the other man

"Hm? Oh. I mean, yes. Sure. Of course. Agreed." Yukio awkwardly answered, being a little taken aback by being mentioned with Caleb in one sentence. "I will just be working. Over there." With his thumb, he pointed over his shoulder towards the table with the laptop and the books on it. "And if something happens, just scream."

Caleb finally loosened up his grip on Lan and nodded. "Okay... I'll wait..."

Lan smiled and picked him up again, gently setting him on the couch. "I'll put on something you can watch... Do you want Dr. Feathers?" He picked up the remote and started to flipping through the channels.

Caleb nodded and hopped off the couch. "I'll go get him" He said before running out of the room.

Dr. Feathers. Shaking his head, Yukio sighed to himself. "How comes you're so good with children? You should've become a teacher. Or kindergartener," he told the other before walking to the table in the other half of the room and sitting down in front of his laptop. Whatever. He didn't want to intrude into Lan's life that much.

Lan's smile turned sad at the question. "Caleb needed someone to take care of him... I just kinda had to learn..." He found a channel that was playing children's cartoons and set the remote down. "Maybe it also just comes naturally when you're a parent... It's like he's just so important to me that all the kid stuff I used to find annoying is just cute now"

He walked over and gave Yukio a light kiss on the cheek. "I don't expect you to suddenly be amazing with kids... Just try not to pick on him okay?" Lan chuckled softly and pulled away.

"Oi, I never do that," Yukio sulked, leaned a little back when Lan pulled back. "I just make fun of people, what is - I know - not exactly better. But don't worry, I won't make him cry.

...

At least I hope so." Yukio crossed his arms and laid the head back. "And don't worry.. I won't ever be amazing with kids. You haven't gained a Daddy kink in bed, though, have you?" he then added half-jokingly, whispering with a mischievous smirk.

Lan burst out laughing at the question. "I don't think so, maybe we should find out later" He teased, nuzzling the man's cheek. "Just try not to make fun of him right now, he's really sensitive from everything that's happened..." He said, lowering his voice slightly. "Give him some more time"

Caleb came running back into the room, hugging his stuffed parrot tightly. He stopped and looked around for a moment before running over to Lan and holding up the parrot. "Dr. Feathers was hiding in the blankets"

Stuffed animals didn't live, oh my God. They couldn't hide. Christ.

Yukio looked from Caleb up to Lan with a suffering expression in his eyes. "I am trying very hard." Before he turned his attention towards the laptop, turning it on and opening one of the books, turning some pages over to find the right one.

After roughly two hours, Yukio looked at the time in the right corner of his laptop. 2 PM. Then his eyes went over to the meal Lan had cooked him, before instantly wondering when the hell the dish had been put over there. But okay. He was bad at noticing things. And even worse at eating properly. At least he had no fucked up sleeping rhythm like some other people.

He moved the laptop to the side and ate what his lover had cooked, before standing up and bringing the dishes into the kitchen, setting them into the dish washer. Subsequently, being Yukio, he walked up to the couch and leaned against its arm. "Watching time over. We're going to the playground now. Fresh air does good. Sport as well. Also, it gets dark at six so let's go." Barely anyone in class back then had dared to speak against his cold voice, to be honest. Aside from Lan sometimes. Maybe that was another thing Yukio loved about that emotional jigglypuff.

Lan made grilled cheese sandwiches with ham. He ate with Caleb in the kitchen and then cleaned everything up. Caleb went back to watch tv and after a few minutes Lan joined him with his laptop and began to work. The little boy stayed quiet, snuggled up against Lan.

Caleb visibly jumped at the sound of Yukio's voice, not expecting the man to speak. Lan closed his laptop and squeezed Caleb close for a moment. "It's okay sweetie..." He murmured before looking up at Yukio. "Sounds good, lemme just put my laptop away and we can get going." He said as he stood up.

"Sounds good as well. Do you want to bring something? A bottle of water or so?" He and Lan could bare some hours without food or water, but maybe Caleb couldn't, so it was safer to ask.

Yukio leaned against the couch and watched Lan attentively, unsure as to whether or not he should kind of apologize to the kid for scaring him or something.

Like, sorry for being not loud at all, actually.

And sorry for having a voice.

Sorry for speaking up.

Sorry for existing.

"Yeah, a bottle of water would be good" Lan gave him a smile before turning back to Caleb. "I'm gonna put Dr. Feathers back in the bedroom so he doesn't get dirty at the park, okay?"

Caleb nodded and handed Lan the stuffed animal.

"I'll be right back" Lan said before walking back to the bedroom to put away his laptop.

Caleb stayed on the couch, pretending that he wasn't watching Yukio.

While Lan left, Yukio walked into the kitchen and got a water bottle before returning, sitting down on the couch's arm and looking at the watch around his wrist. Noticing Caleb's eyes on him, though, the raven turned his head and stared back. What? A staring contest? Did this kid try to fight him? Or was he just watching him for any sudden moves?

"You look like a scared rabbit." Was that a compliment? Or an insult? Actually not. It was more likely a tease. He even found it a small bit cute how the kid seemed afraid and was keeping his guard up. Yukio was always up for a fight, really, though Caleb was not in his league, of course, and he refused to compete with a child.

As soon as his lover returned, Yukio mused a little. On a scale from one to America, how frustrated must Lan feel?

Caleb jumped again when Yukio spoke. "'m not a bunny..." He mumbled, looking away. "I'm a big boy"

Lan came back in and looked between them. He could feel the tension between the two, but it didn't seem like it would be good to talk about it now. He'd bring it up later when it was just him and Yukio. "Are you two ready to go?"

"Daddy" Caleb jumped off the couch and ran over to hug Lan's leg. "I'm ready"

Yukio slid off the couch's arm and made eye-contact with Lan. "Catch." Before the threw the bottle at him and then got his keys. Leaving the living room, he walked to the front door, put his shoes on and opened it to exit the apartment. He closed and locked the door after Caleb and Lan and hid the keys in his pockets. Yukio led the both of them down the stairs, out of the apartment and then into the other direction than they had gone when going shopping this morning.

It was a lazy ten-minutes walk towards the promised playground. Under their feet the ground turned more and more into an ocean of beautiful green grass. In front of them, many different forms rose in the sky. Probably every construction a kid could wish for in every colour possible, surrounded by some tables and benches for the adults to watch, next to tall trees with beautiful flowers around them. A few metres far away was also a water dispenser.

"Here we are. I don't think anything of those things is dangerous. They re-built and fixed everything like two years ago."

Lan held Caleb's hand firmly but gently. He looked around as they walked, old memories of the city resurfacing as they passed by places. His eyes widened when they reached the playground. "Whoa... We didn't have anything like this when we were kids" He murmured.

Caleb gasped at the sight of the playground. "D-daddy, can I play?" He asked softly, lightly bouncing up and down. "Please?"

"Of course" Lan laughed softly. "Just play nice and don't get hurt, okay?"

Caleb nodded quickly and ran to the structure.

"True." Yukio watched Caleb running down until he reached the structure, before his glance moved up towards Lan. "Then again our parents didn't have much time to bring us to such a field, right?" He pulled his hands out of his pockets and looked around briefly, before nodding towards one of the benches. "Do you wanna sit down?"

"Yeah.. That's true..." Lan watched Caleb for a moment before turning to Yukio. "Sure, as long as I can keep an eye on Caleb." He smiled and reached out for Yukio's hand. He quickly stopped himself, his cheeks flushing softly. "Sorry... Guess I'm still kinda tired huh?" He laughed nervously before going to sit on the bench.

Yukio glance moved from Lan's hand up towards mentioned male's face, which looked ready to compete with a tomato. Well, yes. Holding hands was a quite serious thing in Japan.

"Sure." He followed his lover to the bench and then took a seat next to him, leaning backwards, resting his elbows on the bench's wooden back in a relaxed manner. The fresh air did him good, frankly speaking. He knew that he did spend too much time inside.

"You should rest more, then. I may have a fucked up eating rhythm, but yours regarding sleep isn't any better. And don't try to deny it."

"I won't deny it... But I can't do much about it right now. I need to work as much as possible but also take care of Caleb. So I have to work while he's sleeping and while he's playing..." Lan leaned back in the bench. "It sucks.. I don't get enough sleep and I don't get to spend enough time with him" He lightly rubbed his eyes. "But you're right. I need to find a nice place for him to live and have his own room, he needs food, furniture, new clothes, new toys, new shoes, a nice preschool soon... And I need money for legal help with the divorce... Hell, he's probably gonna need therapy too"

Yukio did open his mouth, though no tone left it at first. He thought he had a good answer, but he decided it only sounded good in his head. And to be honest, he didn't want to push Lan towards half-suicide with rude comments. On the other side he wasn't sure what Lan even considered rude or inappropriate or hurtful. He had always experienced his lover taking much in a funny way. In moments in which other people would cry and insult the raven, Lan didn't seem like he took it personally or he just made a joke out of whatever Yukio would say.

That was why he thought of Lan as a strong personality.

"Just.. as long as you don't commit suicide, I am sure you'll find a solution. Sooner or later."

He paused, before crossing his arms.

"..Did that sound comforting?"
