natsukilao
The United States and North African Berber Muslims fought the First Barbary War from 1801 to 1805 in an effort to what? Ans: The Barbary wars were fought by the USA against the pirates of Barbary (ottoman empire) because jefferson refused to pay a tribute to them which would make them bot attack US ships. Since he did not pay that, the pirates did attack and declared war on the USA. Jefferson then sent his own navy to destroy the pirates and assure the safety of his, mostly merchant, ships in that area. At the end of 1805 jeffersons campaign was successful.
