The holiday season in the West Victorian District was always busy. Workers applying the finishing touches to the street decorations, shoppers browsing for the perfect gifts to give and local carolers singing their holiday greetings. Lampposts and windows were decorated with tinsel, wreathes, lights, bells and chimes. Evergreens presenting themselves in their Christmas best, mesmerizing anyone who happens to pass by. The district takes pride in being able to provide memorable experiences and this year was no different. Although Hotel Sunset was the district's pride and joy, there were other areas that did not go unnoticed by those who visited. Just a few blocks away was a two story café simply known as Breeze. The second floor balcony allows each guest to witness the festivities through the wide glass windows while providing warmth from the fireplace. Near the stairs, on the main floor, was a long bar for ordering, a few display cabinets and menus suspending from the ceiling. All of the tables, chairs and booths are made of dark walnut wood. Polished columns support the roof as well as the second floor. Michael arrived early, as requested by his employer, smiling at the sound of the door chime greeting him as he entered. Most mornings were the same. He would come in, lightly kick the powdery frost off his shoes and greet his fellow co-workers before entering the locker room to change. Quiet before the shift, as usual. Something that he enjoyed before helping set up. Beans had to be roasted, silverware bundles needed to be counted, tables needed to be covered, and more. It was a seemingly endless list of things, but Michael had grown used to splitting up the duties. As he brushed the wrinkles out of the table cloth, he took in the sight of the café. Lately there had been a number of prospects inquiring about the help wanted sign on the door, but they were rejected. He never asked why, even when curiosity got the best of him. He could only wonder who would ask to speak with his employer that day and that they would, perhaps, break the refusal streak.
Sosuke0549
The bell on the door chimed and jingled when Sora stepped into the two story café, Breeze. He had seen the help wanted sign, and walked inside to escape the chill in the air and soft snow. He was wearing 2 pare's of pants, pundaled in 2 sweaters and a large coat. Matching his attire were boots, and a beanie. The boy pulled his hands from his pockets, rubbing them together to make friction and warm him up. He brought his pale hands to his lips breathing against them. Sighing. "U-uh.. Excuse me." He spoke to the only person behind the desk. The café had just opened, and he was their first guest of the day. "I saw your help wanted sign, I'd like to apply. M-May I have a application? " He shivered a little, however he seemed to smile a bit when he saw the fire place. He hurried over to the flames to get warmer. As much as he enjoyed the holidays...their were times where he wished it would quickly pass. The ones that involve spreading time with your family... He no longer had a family to spend it with. "My name's...Sora.. Sora Takao." His eyes finally met fully with the other young male, his grey eyes stunned by how.. handsome he was. He glanced at the boys name tag, Michael... His name was...Michael. Sora's black hair fell in his eyes as he blushed faintly...The room smelled like coffee, the fire crackling, and his heart throbbing a little faster then he'd like. pantastic_panda
A new face at this time of day? Out of habit, Michael started to take in as many details about the stranger to piece together some information. His clothing made him look warm, though not warm enough to brace the chill of the district. A small smirk spreads on his lips, but he resists the urge to make a comment. It would be unprofessional of him to say so after all. "Welcome to Breeze." He finally gives his greeting, flashing a warm smile as he gestured a hand towards the seating area. "If you would be so kind as to take a seat, I will be with you momentarily. The sound of the boy's request briefly resonated before Michael raised a brow. Funny how irony works sometimes. Though he was listening to what the boy was saying, his hands were preoccupied with a special concoction. Medium-warm milk, heavy cream for whipping, a hint of powdered sugar, dark cocoa power and a light layer of whipped cream garnished with dark chocolate shavings. All served in a light-blue porcelain mug resting on top of a saucer, taking a moment to gently carry it over to the table. "Don't worry about paying, this hot chocolate is on the house." He calmly jumps in as he rests the saucer on the table with a soft clinking noise. Leaning in close allowed him to take in more details about the boy. Obsidian hair, eyes like the calm before a storm and more youthful features than his own. More youthful than the men he was used to talking to. The thought alone was enough for him to form a small smile, carefully enunciating the other's name. "Mr. Sora Takao. I'm Michael." He slowly leans back to his full height and allows his ponytail to drape over his right shoulder. The sleeves of his white button up shirt were neatly rolled up to the elbows, a black pocketed apron tied securely around his waist and over a pair of dress pants. There was something cute about how Sora's hair covered his eyes, but he felt it would be best to leave that it be. "Concerning the application, my employer is running late this morning. If you don't mind waiting, he should be here within the next hour."
Sosuke0549
"Welcome to Breeze."
Sora didn't really smile He just looked at the ground, stuffing his hands in his pockets. "Thanks. " He muttered as the other greeted him, trying not to blush. He had...such a warm smile...The stranger gestured a hand towards the seating area, His eyes followed. "If you would be so kind as to take a seat, I will be with you momentarily."
He was so polite, and handsome. Was he always this.. charming? Or was it his job that forced him to be? As he spoke to the other He couldn't help but stumble and get distracted by the others hands. He was..making a drink, Sora was a little surprised when he carried the drink over to him. "I.. I didn't--" "Don't worry about paying, this hot chocolate is on the house."
"Oh.. thank you.." He sets the drink down and leans in closer to him, feeling a little uncomfortable Sora looks down. He felt like he was being observed. "Mr. Sora Takao. I'm Michael."
Sora glances up at him but says nothing lightly touching the hot chocolate and bringing it closer to him. "I-it looks really good. " He muttered, He felt much better when Michael leaned away. "Concerning the application, my employer is running late this morning. If you don't mind waiting, he should be here within the next hour."
"Oh.. um" He pulled out his phone, checking the time. "Okay.. I guess I can wait...thank you.." He took a sip of his hot chocolate and his eyes lit up. Cream sticking to his upper lip, giving Him a creamy white mustache. "It's really good! I.. I like it a lot!" pantastic_panda
"If I were you, Mr. Takao, I would take care of that." Michael gestures with a finger to his lip, a light-hearted chuckle parting his lips as the sound of the door chime alerted him that another customer was entering the cafe. He turned to greet them and made his way back behind the long bar. Thankfully Kion, his fellow co-worker, had finished some of his duties and was available to take the customer's order. The two would usually shift from one person taking orders and the other preparing them. When it was Michaels turn to handle the register, his voice became soft and welcoming. Eyes reflecting a familiarity seen between close friends as he listened to each request. To him, it was a strange compliment knowing that they trusted him to such a degree. Satisfying customers was something he secretly took pride in. Every measurement and every movement had a purpose, and his smiles gave no favoritism when it was his turn to prepare the orders. Keeping up appearances was part of his routine, something had become accustomed to. Seemingly genuine laughs, casual conversation, and even issuing sweet remarks to keep himself distracted. Though, it wasn't always the case. He often found himself looking over at the table near the fireplace. Admist the morning hustle, he questioned why the boy would choose to work here of all places, but it wouldn't be up to Michael to decide.
Sosuke0549
Sora glanced at his lip and his eyes widened, embarrassed. He quickly whipped the cream off with a napkin. How embarrassing! Sora sighed using his hand to hid his face, staring at the fire place. To be honest, Sora couldn't really see himself working in a café he didn't know how to make drinks and he was pretty distance and quiet when it came to meeting new people. However he really liked the atmosphere. The way the works seemed to actually like their job. People came into the café with smiles, May be it was just the Christmas spirit going around but... he liked it. Plus he could really use the money. He was tired of crashing with his friends. He really just wanted a place of him own. A half an hour passed and he was finished with his hot chocolate, he glanced at his phone again, just a little longer. pantastic_panda
"It's getting colder outside!" Comes a small, out of breath complaint shortly after the door chimes. The voice belongs to Mr. Lucas, the owner of Breeze, who finally arrives forty-five minutes later than scheduled. To Michael, Mr. Lucas was an interesting fellow. An older gentleman in his late thirties with a few graying strands littering his black hair, and the only man foolish enough to lock himself out of his car. "Right on time, as usual." Michael teases just as his employer was in hearing range of the bar. Ignoring the older man's light-hearted threat of sending him home early, Michael leans over the bar, murmurs a few words close to the man's ear and glances over at Sora with a hint of mischief. "He's been waiting to talk to you about a job application." Mr. Lucas didn't have time to fully take off his coat after receiving the news from Michael, but he nods before giving an understanding smile and walking towards the fireplace. He had lost count of how many prospects he had to turn down, but there was always hope. "Sorry if I kept you waiting!" His voice is surprisingly gentle but has a firm undertone. "Michael tells me that you are here about a job?"
Sosuke0549
Sora heard another voice coming into the café. His eyes turned to the new voice. It was a older gentleman, most likely in his late thirties with a few graying strands in his sea of black hair. Right on time, as usual."
Michael said, was it his boss? Sora glances down at his empty cup. He really needed this job. The older male approached him. "Sorry if I kept you waiting!"
"Oh- It's no problem..." "Michael tells me that you are here about a job?"
"Y-yes sir. My name's Sora and I'm in my first year of college, I'm studying to be a veterinarian. I really would like to work here, It's close to my school... um..I-I'm talking to fast aren't I? I'm sorry! I'm just.. kind of nervous. " He scratched the back of his head, talking fast. He looked at the ground.
