I've actually made a lot of friends who are surprisingly into yaoi and BL in real life. My first yaoi friend was one that I met online and we still keep in touch years later. As for the friends I made in real life, I didn't meet them until I came to college. They've literally become my best friends and we always talk about the things we like / dislike in pairings, RP with each other, write fanfics and just geek it out. :)

I met most of them in college. The thing to get their attention is to bring a manga that is not too obscene...say for example, Love Stage or Junjou...they will die to talk to you XDD

I've had good luck meeting people who like yaoi IRL. Just recently I met an employee at a bookstore who saw me buying manga and she started to talk to me about yaoi. I have a few friends who are into it as well and they're always nice to talk to XD it's a small group but it's a good group!

Ugh, I've never really met anyone who reads yaoi--so I have no one IRL to talk to it about!! :8onion74: However, I do a lot of creative writing and some of it is soft boy's love...some of my very dear high school friends like reading it so I at least have that. But still...! I would just love to have an offline friend I could go to to talk about such things ;w; it'd be super great

I do have a lot of friends who like BL offline however we don't talk about it that much since we have very different tastes. The people I discuss and talk BL with are mostly overseas friends I know in real life but talk with online because they live far away kind of thing.

I have a lot of friends who are into bl tbh, mainly online. Not that much, but when one of us reads a really good manga its always a topic of discussion on the chat lmao

As for in real life, I have one?? I met her like 3 years ago like at 3 am online talking about fanfictions and she turned out to be from the same city as me and we met soon after and ever since we've beenr really good friends. We cry over fanfictions and videogames together and when we get together we like going on pixiv to see what new images have been posted. We mainly keep quiet about liking yaoi cuz we dont like discussing it in public but when it's the two of us we talk about recent fics or sad manga or novels, etc.

I've made a few acquaintance that likes yaoi. I tell you, these people are too rare since in our country homosexual relationships are still a heated topic.

So when I really find one person who likes YAOI, I'd blabber to him/her. It's really refreshing talking to someone with the same inclination. It's like sharing the secret part of yourself (you know since my parents didn't even know I like these kind of things.)

Well I was pleasantly surprised to learn that a couple at my work place were also into Yaoi. this was actually how our friendship started, though it wasn't the only reason and it took some time.

My frineds IRL dont even know what Manga is. If i start talk about manga my frineds look at me as if Im from Mars and then they start talk about other stuff. It has aaaallways been like that.

Once, a friend of my was "kind enough" to litsen to me for 3 minutes while I was fanboying- Death note. After Three minutes She said "times up!"

Its ssooo sad... Tragic but True.

(A good titel for my future biography Tragic, but True)

So to all you people here, Thank you for beeing You and beeing here!

I live in a rather small and a bit conservative country. People my age usually have heard of or are fans of mangas, but yaois are a different story. I've never met someone who openly admitted they liked yaoi, just a couple of people who said they thought yaois are disgusting lol. The only people that know I read yaoi are my sister and my best friend who is gay and is interested in M/M stories so we have conversations about gay couples on tv, movies etc., but he's not really a manga fan.

Random story:A few weeks back we found out about a short of underground annual yaoi party but we decided we wouldn't attend, cause last year's was really weird. I mean really really WEIRD. Like people humping you out of nowhere or grabing your butt or twerking what their momma gave them in your face. Lol.

Still, I would really like to meet someone in real life who shares the same excitement for yaoi as myself, so I we could discuss our favorite yaoi mangas and ships. But oh well.

@Blue Moon that's some pretty scary party you have lol!

I've grown up with people who liked manga around me. I grew up in France, where the Japanese culture is abundant :)

But no one that I knew at that time read yaoi.

Even today, I don't really know ow anyone who does, which is why I'm in this forum. Sometimes, it just itches to talk about a yaoi that you've just read and I never met anyone who I can actually share my joy with yet :/

that yaoi party sounds creepy af :|

The only time I had people I could constantly talk to about yaoi was high school. College was way more hectic, so I had to postpone being a fangirl in favor of my grades ^^; I knew a few people who were also fujoshi, but we weren't very close, and we were all too busy studying to really talk about interests. People who were close tended to be those in groups or those who were best friends. You couldn't necessarily be close with everyone in that environment where you constantly had to study to pass.

my closest friend in university is a fujoshi like me! we first saw each other while we were in the university infirmary, getting medical certificates... i had with me an anime folder with my documents in it, and when she and i made eye contact she gestured at my folder and smiled. i thought that was the end of it - i couldn't even get her name! - but a week later it turns out we were in the same literature class anyway! feels like fate, haha. we ended up talking about sports anime and aokise, etc.

i have other close friends in real life who like yaoi, but they don't go to the same university as i do. we all met online, but i've also hung out with them a good number of times in real life too, so i don't call them just my online friends anymore. :3

I have actually never met any of my online friends in real life, mostly cause almost all of them live really far away in different countries. But my best friend got into BL after me. She isn't as hardcore fan (at least not yet ;P), but we talk about a lot of yaoi stuff. It is kinda awkward sometimes cause I'm not sure if she realizes actually how much I've read yaoi before her. x) It was never something we talked about too much before she started to show interest and as I was not giving her much recommendations (I honestly couldn't show anything smutty to her at the time xD) but then she started reading Viewfinder and I think most of the restrictions disappeared then. =) Now it's pretty sweet that we both like it, although I'm still the one who is more into it, but that's okay. It is awesome to be able to talk about everything.. delicious yaoi with someone in real life.
