Hiro smiled as the other slept agansit his chest., soon enough Tate was fast asleep agansit him, Hiro stayed up for a good half an hour before passing out due to RCA.

 

When the next morning came Hiro was still sleeping like a rock, obvious to the world going on around himself.

Tate had rose his head to peer over the inhabitants of the cave. Pei, Rein, Kou and Hal were all missing from their spots in the cave. Tate was the last of the hunting party to wake. He looked down at Hiro who was still sleeping beside him and gave a quick lick to his muzzle. I'll be right back. He stated in a whisper. Then pulled himself up and out of the den. Moments later they were gone, and Hal was left sitting alone on the hill before the den.

Hiro stirred as Tate licked his muzzle, yawning as he sat up he looked at Tate as he walked out of the den.

"Where are you going?" Hiro asked sleepily, Hiro had completely forgotten that the pack was going hunting today aside from the few wolves that stayed at the den

 

Tate must not have heard him since he went on his way with the others, Hiro walked to the entrance of the den and watched as they left. Upon seeing Hal sitting on the hill alone on the hill gave his memory a jog as Hiro remembered that today was hunting day.

 

Hiro walked out of the den to Hal.

"How is your leg doing?" Hiro said with a bit of concern in his voice.

Hal had been sitting alone on the hill when another voice sounded from behind him. His ear twitched in acknowledgement towards the other wolf, but he didnt turn around to fave him. "Its all right. If i face that pack again I swear ill rip their throats out." Hal hated to think he was weak right now. And he had fought with Tate to let him go. He was a stubborn wolf, but so was Tate. And the leader had won over the argument.

Hiro turned his head to look at Hal.

"I'm sure you guys scared that pack off." Hiro smiled slightly.

"I'm sure you'll be up and hunting in no time." Hiro laid down in the grass.

"You don't like being away from Kou do you?" Hiro said softly pawing at the ground.

"That wolf pack threatened to kill our alpha and take our land. There was no way any of us would take it." Hal watched as Hiro laid down beside him. The sum was just now starting to wake above the trees. Hal twitched his ear when he heard the other speak. "Kou is still young. And still learning. Im the only one who can keep him from getting hurt." Hal was a proud wolf, sometimes more proud then he should be.

Hiro's face contorted in anger as he mumbled under his breath before the other began to speak about his brother which calmed him down a bit.

"Ah I see, I'm sure they'll be back soon and Kou is probably alright."

Hal nodded at Hiro's words. "Tate wont let anything happen to Kou, to us, the pack." Hal began remembering the day Hal and Kou had first met Tate. They were the same age, but after being kicked out of their pack by the new alpha, they had roamed for years. When they met Tate, his father had been alpha. They were there when the storm took with it Tate's father and sisters. After that he lost his brother to sickness. And when Tate became alpha, his last brother left the pack to find his own. Hal looked out over the forest ad the sun rose higher.

Hiro smiled.

"His a good alpha." Hiro wanted to become strong just like Tate, not to become alpha but to be able to protect himself better, Hiro wasn't as strong as most wolves and also was smaller he was at a disadvantage.

"Does the pack ever go into civilization?"

Hal had looked back at Hiro, now actually facing his way then just talking to him. He nodded at Hiro's comment on Tate being a good alpha and he had to agree. If it wasn't for Tate and his pack, Kou and himself could have died. Then Hiro asked about going into civilization. Hal thought for a moment then spoke up. No, at least half of us don't. Tate does, and so does Pei and Kou. But Nira and her pups and Rein are normal wolves. So they don't go anywhere near humans. He looked back out over the forest before adding to his answer. I'll tell you one thing. Tate is never the same when he comes back from the nearest city.

Hiro nodded.

" I can see reasoning for not going, through history humans weren't very kind to wolves." Hiro touched the bell around his neck.

" I guess you could say I've grown to trust most of them, then I was old enough to go off on my own a wild dog neary mauled me to death...well it left me on a trail near the town and an old lady toke pity on me and nursed me back to health."

Hal nodded as he watched Hiro. Not all humans are bad, I've witnessed the good in them. But the bad ones....they are the ones that make humans look bad. Suddenly a howl broke out in the distance. four wolves calling out in unison. We've got food! They howled. We come home now! The sound rang highly through the air and Tate finished the howl with a proud, Our pack is strong!

 

Hal had joined in on the howl calling out in joy. Nira and the pups had come out of the den then and even they joined in. The pups with their yipping howls of, Food! Food! Leader brings Food! The howl died and the song of the forest rose above them as birds chirped to greet the sun. Hal looked back at Hiro. Hope you enjoy your time as one of us. There was pride in his voice, love for his pack in his eyes.

Hiro perked up imedantly at Tate's howl neary falling over due to how fast he sat up.

"Their back!" Hiro smiled his tail thumping on the ground

 

Hiro barked happily before nuzzling Tate's neck.

"Of course I've enjoyed my time with everyone, I've never felt so at home."

When the pack returned to the den, their bellies all filled with the meet of an elk, Hiro instantly came up to Tate and nuzzled his neck. Tate's own tail wagged slightly before he made his way to the pups and retched up the meat he stowed away for them. The pups instantly started eating and the other three retched up their own meat. Tate walked back to Hiro and touched his nose to the other's. Come, before the food is all gone. Hiro and Hal would eat with Rein and Pei, injured and elderly first, then Tate would eat and then Nira and Kou. The pups would normally start eating then too, but he had yet to punish them for their excitement in eating. Tate ahd finished eating and sat beside Hiro, licking his jowls.

Hiro laid next to the other without eating.

"My stomach actually hurts right now." Hiro laughed nervously.

"Proabley should have chewed the fish I ate yesterday ." Hiro leaned agansit Tate yawning softly nearly dozing off right there.

"I should probably go back inside the den."

Tate looked down as Hiro yawned and leaned against him. He twitched his ear at the den. Get as much rest as you need. We will be here until tonight. Tate tossed his head at the den before looking back at Hiro and then the pack. The pups start their training today. So I'll be here if you need me. He let his tail thump against the ground in a very slight wag. He was glad to partake in the pups training. He felt like their older brother somehow, despite not even being blood related.

Hiro nodded licking Tate's cheek before going to the den to rest, Hiro slept for quite awhile before waking up from a bad dream.

 

He was in a cold sweat and his stomach was hurting even more then before, Hiro letted out a soft whine and curled up.

Tate watched as Hiro limped his way into the den. He had wished Hal would rest as well, but he new the wolf never would. As soon as he made out the figure of Hiro lying down in the den he lowered his upper body and wagged his tail at the pups. Soon enough they were rounding on each other in a game. They would chase Tate in circles and when he rested for them to catch him they would stalk and pounce on him. Their sharp teeth hurt at times, but he wouldn't push them away, for they needed to learn how to use them.

 

The day passed by as Hiro slept. The pack stayed outside all day before Hiro had woken with a start. Of course the only one who noticed was Pei, who had been sitting by the mouth of the den watching over the others. Tate was no where to be found, having embarked on his own else where. Pei poked her head into the den. Hiro, dear? Is everything all right?

Hiro laided on the ground once more.

"It was a bad dream."

Hiro gagged for a second before gathering his strength back.

"I think I ate a bad fish." He groaned softly.

Pei pawed Hiro gently, resting her front paw on his head. You should embrace your dreams. For they can be telling you things you need to know. She then dropped her paw back to her side, touching the ground. Why don't you go find Tate by the river. There are some berries there that can help an upset stomach. Pei smiled down at Hiro as she said this.

Hiro paused as if thinking.

"I best be careful for the next while." Hiro stated.

"So Tate is by the river?" Hiro was wondering why but didn't ask.

"What type of berries am I looking for?"

Pei let out a small giggle. Don't worry too much over them dear. We all have them. Then she trotted to the den mouth and looked back as Hiro asked his questions. She nodded to his first question to Tate being at the river but when the second one came she did nothing but sit and wag her tail slowly. No more questions, go, go. Tate will help you look for the berries. Pei was younger then Rein but she was still the most mysterious between the two elders. SOmetimes she knew things before the others did about themselves.

Hiro laughed softly and began to leave the den.

"Take care." He said before leaving and heading off to the river.

 

Upon arriving at the river he saw Tate.

"Tate!" Hiro barked happily.

"Your mother called me out here to get some berries for my stomach."

Pei watched Hiro run off towards the lake from where she sat my the mouth of the den. The others had also took notice of his leaving, but did nothing of it. Since they were all munching on some squirrel and berries themselves.

 

At the river, Tate hadn't yet caught the voice of Hiro coming down the hill. The reason being, was he was in his were form and like every normal human, his hearing wasn't as good. Full blooded weres were able to keep their skills as a wolf even in their human form. But Tate didn't get that luck. He stood in his human form waist deep in the river. Where he was the river was quiet and gentle, no rushing waves like the other part by the falls. When Hiro made it to the edge of the river Tate caught him out of the corner of his eyes. "Ah, Hiro...how are you feeling?" He called out to him.

Hiro also decided to turn human upon seeing that the other was in human form as well and dipped his leg in the water to sooth the pain a bit.

"Actully I had a horrible stomach ache and your mother sent me out here to get berries, she also mentioned that you were here." Hiro laughed as he felt minnows nipping at his feet.
