Americandragon
Ok to someone that is new to yaoi, I feel that the bashing of women in some yaoi is a sign of a weak story. I see this in some yaoi animes where the rich handsome guy says he can't stand women only to move the plot along, and when used in excess to me this is a sign of a bad story. This why I love BL movies like Itsuka no Kimie, Boys Love, Bokura no Ai no Kanade, Boys Love 2, ai no kotodama, Junjou Romantica because it does not have those stereotypes (please excuse my spelling if it's spelled wrong. Why is it so hard to find good bl movies with good plots like I listed above? It's so hard to find great movies like these without the stereotypical rich handsome guy who every girl wants. fan_yaoi
hmm I dont think i never really have been thinking so much about it, i guess Im that kind of person who prefer a yaoi/BL without any/too many female characters, so I never really payed that much attention to it. (I dont mind female characters if they are in the story as a friend, but if they are only there cuz the girl has a crush on guy, i think its kinda boring, "been there done that" kinda.) But streostyps in general are always boring.
Rebel Heart
I like female characters, I like them the most as supporting. But I do like to see a story where would be a woman involved getting to a mens heart knowing he is gay and in a relationship and getting confused and all making the story really interesting. only to find out that what he feels is not love but motherly love as he doesn't have a mother or so. Sometimes I find the story's weak, I miss the real troubles and hardships sometimes. It's always the same, they worry or misunderstand, Sometime is just want to see hard confrontation where they really break up or start hating each other and where the path of reconnecting is hard and long. Blue Moon.
You perfect human being finally said it - women in yaoi are not portrayed as they should! Yes, it's about dudes being all lovey dovey but could you please not trash women? I mean, women read yaoi too and it's kind of annoying. At the end of the day it's not a big deal and nobody is gonna cry over it but it would be so much better if there were more supportive female characters who were more than plot devices, like a female friend maybe? I don't know if you've read Rutta to Kodama, but the one protagonist has a really good friend that they discuss things about relationships and text and lend each other magazines and stuff, it's really sweet friendship. She is in a few chapters, the majority revolves around the main couple, but it's still nice.
fan_yaoi
hmm you all have very good points. I my self hav not been giving it much thought before but after reading your posts. .. I would prefer female characters to have a better place in a story. For example. In sekaiichi Onodera makes it clear early he is not into that girl. The girl still "lurks" around even if he tells her not to. She could have been more interesting I think. If she is in...then make her use full. Few yaoi is like that.... The women are often "annoying" , perhaps that's why I prefer not to have them in a manga at all :/ But as u say many women read yaoi so perhaps better supporting female characters could be something to develop in a better way.
