Saga
message: Hello! I was thinking of making that thread for a long time. Kinda nerdy, I guess. But do I love reading, seriously. So I thought small 'review-like' posts when I stumble upon good manga or good novels would be nice. Of course, I don't read only yaoi, so expect non-yaoi titles. ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- I thought a lot what do I post for a first, since I really love reading, man. And I don't even know how many things I've read. But I decided to give it a go with the first title that popped in my mind, you know, just like playing the 'association' game. title: A Mistaken Marriage Match: A Generation of Military Counselor original title: 错嫁良缘之一代军师 author: Qian Lu type: Chinese Novel genre: historical, supernatural, romance chapters: 43 ----------------------------------- .. review .. The story is mesmerizing, really. I am not into romance, but this piece of art takes all the nine points out of ten. I will skip the confusing names, for some reason I find Chinese names for confusing, lol. So, the story is about a woman in modern times, she is a SWAT captain/officer, who solves crime cases and deals with crappy situations on a daily basis. But one night when she is trying to crack a mysterious case, a small charm-like object takes her back, I mean, waaaay back into the past. Where kingdoms and dynasties fought as if playing some god-game. All is about strategies, just to win a war. ..Kind of her thing, don't you think? So then she meets 'him'. A jerk who can't stand women, the most famous general of the whole Empire who hasn't lost a battle. To make things worse, she is his concubine. Or so she ended up as an offering gift from the Emperor. Both of them are like water and fire, cat and dog, white and black - but if one thing unites them, is that both of them are born leaders that do know their strategies. In short, brilliant minds that once united, are impregnable. ----------------------------------- .. favorite characters' scene .. SHE Light spoiler below: So one of the most favorite scenes of mine is when she trained a group of soldiers in the woods for some short amount of time. I loved how she is rather evil, I mean, strict. XD. She is strict when she gets into SWAT-officer-mode. Actually I like that she is not your typical 'fragile' woman that on each next harsh word would back off, and go cry in her room. If anything she is rather...big mouthed, lol. She actually dared to even challenge the General's brother to a duel. '_' HE Light spoiler below: Man. I love that dude, even if he is an asshole. I mean, he is kind in his own way? But above all I like his sharp mind. One of my favorite moments so far is, when he appeared just right in the moment when she was not only sitting on his general-throne, but also bad mouthing him. XD. It was precious to have him go,kind of, "and that asshole is just behind you". final words: In my opinion, the romance is not one of these fluffy stuff you most often stumble upon. If there is any kind of romance there, it's mostly in the form of 'tension' (though I see it as a sexual tension, you know what I mean? XD) And as a start of this ...nerdy thread which probably would be just me rambling all alone '_', I decided to attach a poll to it. c; See you soon with some next update, ..some time in future, lol. Saga
title: Dengeki Daisy original title: 電撃デイジー author: Motomi Kyousuke type: Japanese manga [book format] genre: comedy, shoujo, drama chapters: 75 + extras ----------------------------------- .. review .. So. That title is one I'd like to talk about next. To be honest, I've read it like over 5 times, yes, that good is it. Before anyone would go stare at me for reading shoujo, lemme defend myself. I read unique shoujo.. No, it's not the same, XD. To be honest I'd like to stray from the official genres assigned to most of the manga, but when I think about it..a relationship involving a hetero couple is what would be called 'a shoujo manga', and a relationship between males would be 'yaoi'. Even if I wanted to change the darned genre, I can't. Hence, I put the 'official' ones. But like any of the titles here, you must know I don't read 'stereotypical' stuff. The story is about a high-school girl. But no, it's not about her meeting Prince Charming, who's got flowers around him... -stares- He literally is called 'Daisy' [a flower name], I mean. His code name, anyhow. XD. If you still haven't given up on that manga so far, good. Keep reading. So, the story follows the life of a poor girl that is something like an orphan. The only connection she'd have, something to call 'a family' is a phone. A phone through which she sends messages to a person called 'Daisy', who she's never met in real life. But that person has never ever even once 'replied' to these messages. Now, you'd wonder - ..Then why the f.ck would she spam some unknown phone number, not to mention messaging a stranger. I mean, alone that sounds rather unrealistic, plus it's a dumb move. Probably you are right. But that phone was the only thing her beloved brother left her before he died. She trusts 'Daisy' since her brother told her she could. Who is 'Daisy'? I am sure that you've already foreseen the plot, huh? I mean, that's Prince Charming! But not really. He is a nasty bastard. -_- But damn must I say, he is awesome. The male probably has one of these genius IQ levels, not to mention he's been doing what he does ever since a snotty brat. 'Daisy' is a well known hacker in the underground. Like any other character from the underground, 'Daisy' has a rather tragic past. Getting thrilled about how they meet? Or how she gets to know who 'Daisy' is? Because honestly, I am each time I re-read it. XD. SHE HE And if you wonder where is the comedy in all that, I assure you. It's comical in between the serious/dark chapters.
Saga
title: Junai original title: 純愛 author: Shuhdoh Rena artist: Nara Chiharu type: Light Novel genre: psychological, yaoi chapters: 5 ----------------------------- ..review.. Finally some yaoi, huh. Well, I didn't really know what to post as a first entry for yaoi. So I played the 'random title' game. Of course, in this thread I post solely titles I've liked. If some famous title is not here it's either because I haven't yet got onto writing a review about it, or I think something is lacking - thus I omit it from titles 'worth the read'. Particularly this story is nothing extravagant or 'oh-so-different'. Smut, smex, drools and semen - all is there, yup. But why would I ever consider listening it. The twist was mind-blowing. Moreover, I've never knew that actually such a case existed. Basically there is that ordinary guy who, out of nowhere, by "a coincidence" meets an old classmate of his. However, whenever he meets that classmate of his, things seem so odd - as if he was dreaming. Even when violated by him, it still made him wonder if he were dreaming or not. The story even got into its peak where he wondered if the so said friend even existed. But yes, he existed. The poor man wasn't going mental but. Just...go read it. I ain't doing spoilers -_-' The story is indeed psychological, and keep in mind after you are left with the truth revealed, there is actually such a case. A true case. '_' "THE ORDINARY DUDE". ------------------------------------------ He is responsible, yet plain. Your usual salary-man's personality, to be honest. Not really one to go with the flow, what left to say about 'adventurous' trait. Then again, he's honest. Alas so easily 'manipulated'. "THE PLAY-PRETEND-OF-CLASSMATE DUDE." -------------------------- He appears to be kind. Yet can be cruel. He appears to be professional, yet is brute. The full of paradoxes man. But I won't spoil you the real fun now, telling 'what' exactly is 'he'. --------------------------- In overall, it is a nice novel. If it weren't for the end, plus that it actually is based on a true case [in a way], I wouldn't have made a big deal of it. But man, it's..WTF. xD.
