Three days. It's been three days since Kaoru last ate. He stood in front of the fridge, his right hand holding it open. His stomach was growling, but nothing was left. Empty, completely empty. So were the cupboards. He let go of the fridge, letting it close on it's own. His eyes focused on the pizza flyer attached to his fridge with a cat magnet. Pizza. Piiiiiizzzaaa!! God that sounded so good right now. But, he was afraid. Ever since he woke up, different, he was afraid to let anyone see him. He was a completely different person now. His hair was silver, and his eyes were Cyan. He was a freaking snow leopard thing now!

 

Kaoru's stomach grumbled again. He knew he couldn't go any longer without food, even though they say you can go seven says without food. Three days was already too many days. In fact, three hours was too long! He reached for the flyer, pulling it from under the magnet. As long he hid his appearance, or at least made it hard to see, it should be fine though, right? But what was he going to do when he ran out of cash? Go to an atm? But.. What about when he ran out of money..? He quit his job after all. No! He couldn't think of that right now. He had to think of the current problem. His growling stomach!

 

He pulled his cellphone out of the pocket of his jeans and dialed the number. Order not one, not two, but three large pizzas with various toppings. Along with a few different sides and a big bottle of soda. Yes, this would do nicely. He could gorge. If he was going to take such a big risk at being seen, he wanted to gorge as much as he could. It could be his last meal after all! Just the thought of it made his mouth water. Fooood~

Hotaka carried the three boxes of pizza- three large boxes, as well as sides and a large bottle of soda. For a party of this size, he figured someone would order more than one soda bottle. But he certainly wouldn't complain about not carrying more. Especially with the elevator being out of order, and he had to carry it all up the stairs. Certainly not the worst delivery, especially since from his experience, people tipped better when there was a party, since they wanted to look good. It seemed like a weird time of day for a party, though Hotaka certainly wasn't an expert. He didn't tend to go out to many parties, his responsible, by-the-book sort of personality didn't lean well with the types of personalities that made someone popular. Not that he particularly minded. He was a bit reclusive by nature, the presence of just one or two other people was more than enough for him.

 

He double checked the address again, to make sure it was correct. Everything seemed so quiet, he was afraid he was mistaken. Maybe the party hadn't started yet. He knocked on the door.

Kaoru jumped when he heard the knock on his apartment door. He swallowed the lump and went to the door. He had already prepared. He was wearing a dark long sleeved t-shirt, gloves, socks, a scarf and a hat. He was attempting to hide his appearance as much as possible. He flicked the lights off in his apartment and opened the door slightly. "MMhhgrgdsdsmm..." He attempted to speak, but only muffled words came out. He raised a hand to loosen the scarf a little. "Please leave the pizza on the floor.." He said in his deep, calming voice that sounded slightly worried. He was using the door to shield himself, only leaving it open enough width for his head and middle of his torso to be seen. He reached out with his gloved hand, holding enough money to pay for the pizza and a tip. Finally, the smell of the pizza came through the door and filled his nostrils. It made him so happy. It smelled so good. Without realizing it, his ears began to wiggle under the hat, forcing it to pop off his head, leaving it exposed for the other person to see, a look of shock now on his face.

A man answered the door, dressed for the tundra. This alone was pretty strange, without the empty party and absurd amount of food. He spoke, but no actual discernible words made it past the scarf covering his face. Hotaka smiled, a bit confused, before the man loosened the scarf away from his face and repeated it. He couldn't help but frown now, not very pragmatic, but he set all the boxes on the floor, the 2 liter sitting next to it all. The man who ordered all this food almost seemed afraid of him, his voice was calm but almost stern, and he hid himself behind the door. Hotaka found that almost laughable since he was shorter and quite lean, hardly the intimidating type. But maybe someone delivering food had attacked him before, who was Hotaka to judge him? Hotaka reached to take the money, the start of a thanks forming on his mouth when something moved under his hood, distracting him from his etiquette.

 

They moved again, and dislodged the stifling hoodie off of his head, revealing two white, round ears perched on his head. And while he looked up at him, surprised it happened, Hotaka only smiled.

 

"Oh, so did you ask for me specifically? Or might this be a coincidence?"

Kaoru took a step back in fear, the door swinging open with him. His right hand reached for the scarf, pulling it down away from his mouth. His left hand pointed at Hotaka, a claw starting to pop through the tip of the glove. "Y-y-y-you're a scientist in disguise?!" He stammered out, a look of horror and shock on his face. His canines were visible as he spoke. He took another step back. "Of.. of course I didn't! I don't want to be cut up!!" Kaoru reached for the nearest thing to defend himself with. Picking up an umbrella and holding it like a sword. Only, it was snapped, something he had accidentally done last week. His eyes turned blank as his stomach let out the largest growl he had personally ever heard from it.

Hotaka was occasionally requested whenever a fantastical creature ordered pizza. It was not the closest knit community, due to secrecy, but those he knew who were on his route enjoyed being able to order pizza without fear of being discovered, or having a human know where they lived. Bonus, if they had apparent features, they wouldn't have to hide those, either. So naturally, Hotaka presumed that this young man had specifically asked for him.

 

But that appeared to not be the case, and a claw peeped out from a gloved finger pointing at him accusingly. Hotaka couldn't help but smile at the weird accusation, and pointed to his name tag, that had his name and picture on it.

 

"Of course I'm no scientist! I'm a delivery man! Araki Hotaka, have you heard of my family?" He said with a smile, essentially ignoring his brandishing a broken umbrella at him. Then, the cat-man's stomach growled. Maybe his sort just ate a lot of food, he sounded like he was starving! Hotaka scooped the food back up into his arms.

 

"Please allow me to bring this inside and set it down for you!" He offered.

Kaoru started to relax at the thought of food. He dropped the umbrella and walked over to the table, sitting in wait for the pizzas to be put down. He took the gloves and scarf off, dropping them to the ground. When the pizza was placed on the table, he opened the pizza on top, straight away taking a slice and stuffing it into his mouth. He looked at Hotaka's name tag, and swallowed the lump of food. He shook his head, then it tilted. "You say you're name like you're important." He took another bite of the pizza slice, his face in bliss at the taste.

 

"But if you are, how come you're working as a pizza delivery boy?" Yes, he did speak with my mouth full. It was something he did sometimes in general, but right now, he was just too hungry. If he were to wait until he was finished eating, it would be until he was full.

 

Kaoru looked over at Hotaka suspiciously. "Do you know me? Or.. others like me?" He questioned, leaning towards the Hotaka just slightly, while still continuing to devour the pizza. It didn't take him long to finish the entire thing, but he didn't touch the others. Not yet, he thought they might be worth saving. That, and his stomach was already kind of full.

Hotaka took the food inside, awkwardly scrambled to remove his shoes as he came in, and walked towards a table he could barely see past the boxes, and set them down. The man who was wary enough to pull a 'weapon' out and brandish it at him was now too fixated on the food to even look at him, and he quickly grabbed a slice of pizza and started eating it quickly. His stomach growled something fierce a few moments before, he must be very very hungry.

 

"Ah, well, my family…" He was a bit flustered at the question. He didn't mean to imply his family had any particularly important social standing at large, rather in the community of fantastical characters. Maybe this man was new here, it seemed odd that he hadn't heard of his family. But the impression he left of making himself seem more important than he intended was quite embarrassing. He had eaten half the pizza by the time Hotaka got around to answering him.

 

"The Araki family is made up of witches, you see." He started. "We're well known among other fantasy characters. So yes, I do know others like you," He smiled. Hotaka had never heard of it happening before, but from what he could guess here, this man hadn't always had ears and a tail. This must be a recent development.

Kaoru looked over to Hotaka, his ears twitching a little as he listened. His head tilted just slightly. "Witches?" He said, though it was more like a thought that was spoken. He sat back in his chair, and folded his arms across his chest, his face looking like it was in deep thought. He squirmed a little, and unfolded his arms to unzip and remove the jacket. He threw it on the floor next to him. Under it, he wore just a simple plain white t-shirt. On the tops of his arms, his skin was white and covered with black leopard spots.

 

He sat up straight, learning forward a little. "If you're a witch, can you do magic? Is there a curse on me? Can you remove it?" He started asking questions without thinking, but then stopped. He took in a deep breath, and then released. "What I mean is, I woke up like this. Just suddenly. I went to bed as normal, with black hair. But I woke up and everything's different." He raised a hand to grab onto his left Snow Leopard ear. "How does something like this even happen?" He released it. "I scared the hell out of myself when I looked in the mirror!!"

 

He sat back once before, crossing his arms over his chest. "It just doesn't make sense. How am I supposed to live like this? I can't go to work, I can't be seen like this. I might be.." An uncomfortable, worried expression came across his features. ".. Taken away by the Government for experiments." His bright crystal blue eyes looked into Hotaka's. "What's happening to me..?" His expression soften, clearly a worried and fearful one.

He nodded, grinning. It was quite exciting, being able to tell someone. It was like a movie where the fantasy character explained the existence to a human. Normally he'd have to worry about keeping his lies and excuses straight with other people, but now, he was free to explain it in a way he'd never had before.

 

Kaoru removed his jacket, and Hotaka's eyes drifted to his arms, seeing he had spots on his skin as well. He looked back up at him, and bit his lip, shaking his head.

 

"No… sorry. I am a witch by blood, but I actually can't use any magic of my own. I'm effectively no different from any human." He admitted. Though, maybe his mom, or one of his sisters, knew what to do about this. At the very least, they could perhaps give him a glamor of sorts, right?

 

"I've never heard of such a thing happening. Maybe you have fantastic blood in you, and it was latent for some reason. I've never heard of a regular human becoming a fantastic suddenly, of course… that would fall into the realm of what is considered fantastic, right?" He chuckled a bit, awkwardly. It must be strange to see a new person in the mirror when you wake up.

 

His heart melted when he saw the fear in Kaoru's face, and he brashly took a seat next to him.

 

"The government's not taking you away. We'll protect you." Hotaka promised. "The fantastic community, we're close knit. We look out for one another. If a glamor works on you, you might be able to lead a relatively regular life as you've lived up to now, for certain stretches of time, at least."

Kaoru listened to every that Hotaka said to him. His expression and posture didn't change, even when he chuckled. When Hotaka said he would help him, or rather, the community would, it was the same thing to Kaoru, but when he heard that, his eyes began to swell up. His arms reached out and wrapped around Hotaka, pulling him into a hug and nuzzling against him happily. "Thank you thank you!" He proclaimed, pushing against Hotaka, causing them to fall on the ground. Laying on top of Hotaka, he froze. He sat up, looking away bashfully. "I.. Don't know why I did that.." His big fluffy tail swayed behind him. "I keep doing.. weird things now.." He said, now looking at Hotaka. "Sorry." He said, a big smile coming to his face. "I was just really worried I would die or something."

Hotaka didn't exactly realize how important this revelation was for Kaoru. He was, after all, the first person he had ever told that to, the first person he'd met that had this sudden transformation occur. He expected him to be relieved, of course, but he didn't expect to be pulled into an embrace by the handsome man. Hotaka found himself jerked forward from his seat, and against the body of the spotted individual. His heart skipped a beat and his temperature rose. He'd never been held like this by a man who he wasn't dating before. Before he could protest- or otherwise- the cat-featured man and his pizza-filled body pushed forward, and they both ended up on the ground.

 

His face was betrayingly red as he laid underneath the larger man. He was at a complete loss for words, totally flustered! He took a deep breath and nodded, before getting the gumption to speak once the leopard man sat up. The witch remained on the floor, though. He couldn't help but smile in response, any insecurities or discomfort melting away in the warmth of that large smile.

 

"That's understandable!" He said, finally sitting up. "I'd be happy enough to tackle someone, too, if I thought I was going to die."

Kaoru's right hand rose to scratch his head, still smiling as he sat next to Hotaka. "Well, I was worried that I would be taken away for experiments, or starve to death." His expression went a bit serious for a moment. "I was really worried I was going to starve to death." He stood up, his eyes looking down at Hotaka as he extended a hand to help him up. He had noticed how Hotaka blushed, and how his heart raced, but he didn't bring it up. "Sorry again." He thought Hotaka was cute, and seemed really kind. He could tell that he wasn't lying, and that he didn't feel like the lying type.

 

Kaoru shifted back towards his seat and sat down. "I'm sorry for taking up too much of your time. I understand that you gotta work. I have a bit of savings, but not much. If you, or anyone you know can help me so that I can go back to work, I would really appreciate it, and I'm of course willing to compensate." He looked over to Hotaka. "Otherwise, after a few months I won't be able to pay the bills or feed myself, and I don't really have anyone else I can go to." Kaoru had changed a little. From his usual absent-minded, ditzy aura. He was more serious. It was a serious topic after all. He looked down to his hands, his fingers fiddling.

Hotaka licked his lips before taking his hand, when he helped him up. He could see just how seriously Kaoru had been contemplating his fate until now. For someone who was human- or thought he was human- for so long to suddenly wake up and not be one any longer, it could really seem like the end of the world. Hotaka was very happy that he was the one who delivered his pizza, instead of someone else. Imagine if he revealed his ears to a human!

 

"Well, no one's going to let you starve." He assured him, speaking softly. To think, he expected to die in some gruesome manner at the hands of fate, but now he was part of an extended family and he didn't even realize it!

 

He looked back at the pizza and the soda, along with the small boxes with a variety of sides. This was hardly the last delivery he had, he couldn't stay here all day, not without risking his job. It almost seemed worth it, though.

 

"Don't be sorry," He told him. "I want to be here. I'll see what I can do. We'll try to get you a glamor, and if that doesn't work… there are other options."

 

Those other options would radically change the way he could interact with the world though, so he left that open ended for now. He glanced at the order card again, to get the man's name.

 

"You're not alone, Kaoru,"

Kaoru looked to Hotaka when he spoke, listening carefully. When his name was called he blushed a little. "Yes! Right!" He stood up, a little shocked at how rude he had been. "I'm sorry. Yea.. My name is Kaoru." He looked down at his feet, his toe claws had started to cut through the socks, but he ignored it. "What's your name?" He looked up and at Hotaka again. "Thank you for this. Maybe we could swap numbers to stay in contact?" His hand reached into his pants pocket and pulled out his smart phone. He pressed a few buttons, with slight difficulty because of his nails, he'll need to cut those. He then held it towards Hotaka, the phone now ready for him to put his details into.

 

Kaoru smiled. "To think I would end up like this, and to find out that there are others like this too. That's pretty cool. I don't think I would have believed such a thing was real unless this happened." He laughed softly. "I use to be pretty skeptical you know." He was starting to think about things in a different light. After all, he kind of always wanted silver hair, even if it did come with ears and a tail.

"My name is Araki Hotaka," He repeated. Kaoru seemed pretty flustered before so he might not have been paying attention to his name. He pulled out his phone as well. He had very few contacts in it, so it took him a while to remember how to put in a new number. But eventually he did get the correct screen up, and handed it to Kaoru as he took his. Their phones were slightly different, the interface was just different enough for it to seem weird. He quickly added his name and number. He want d a picture of Kaoru to put in his phone, but that seemed like a weird thing to ask for. Plus then he might have to let him take a picture, and he didn't feel that cute today.

 

"We prefer people to be a little skeptical," Hotaka admitted. "But yeah, I guess it is, pretty cool. Wait until you meet others! Unlike me, my mother and sisters can all use magic, and there are other people with these animal features! A lot of them can use glamours."

 

Glamour was not an exact science, or magic, rather. So it definitely had to be treated by a case-by-case thing. There was never a guarantee that they would work, or work well. But now that Kaoru seemed to be comfortable with himself, he didn't want to bring him down. It's not like there was a guarantee the glamour wouldn't work. It was more likely, statistically, that they'd be able to help him.

"O-oh! Right! That's right, I remember. You told me. Sorry.." Kaoru blushed a little as he took Hotaka's cellphone. It was again, a little difficult to type on the phone, but he didn't let it stop him. He added his name, and number, then saved it to the phone. He smiled and held the phone back towards Hotaka.

 

Kaoru's face started to go a little blank, but curious. His head tilted and he sniffed the air softly. The aroma in the air had changed, the scent of the pizza had faded and instead there was a sweet scent that filled the air. His eyes closed and he sniffed the air again, in a few different directions. He stopped in Hotaka's direction and opened his eyes. He seemed puzzled, and confused. He stepped towards Hotaka, putting the cellphone on the table. Now standing in front of Hotaka, he sniffed the top of his head. He pulled back, even more confused looking. His hands rose to rest on Hotaka's arms, as he continued to sniff but in different locations.

 

Finally, Kaoru pulled back, the confused expression lesser than before. "You smell really good." He sniffed again, this time long and hard. "Like, really really good. I've never smelled something so good before. Why did I notice earlier? Like when I tackled you." Again, the confused expression returned, then an embarrassed one as he realized his crotch had hardened. He released Hotaka and turned away. "So-Sorry! Sorry for being weird!!" He said, a little louder than he usually spoke.

Hotaka smiled and nodded. That blush was really vibrant on such a pale face. It took the animal-like man a while to put in his information, being new to being clawed, but he was able to manage, and the delivery man took his phone back when he handed over Kaoru's. He was about to say something about testing it real fast, or what time might be best to call, when Kaoru's face went almost blank. The words caught in Hotaka's breath. What a strange expression. It was blank, but like he was focused on something.

 

He stood motionless, almost out of instinct, when Kaoru stepped towards him, sniffing the air. What was he doing? He sniffed in different directions, as if trying to find the source. He stepped closer, and opened his eyes, now he looked puzzled by something. Hotaka remained still and quiet, staring back into those icy blue eyes.

 

Kaoru was so close. Close enough to sniff the top of his head. Hotaka grimaced, his face felt hot. He was kind of sweaty and probably smelled really gross, he didn't want anyone to smell that. Especially not an attractive guy! Kaoru grabbed his arms, holding him in place. But Hotaka wasn't going anywhere. He sniffed him all over.

 

This was probably an instinct thing. Hotaka had never been sniffed so aggressively like this by other fantasy creatures, but Kaoru was new to this. This was probably to be expected, right? Still his face grew hot and his heartbeat grew faster.

 

Kaoru asked him a question, but he couldn't bring himself to answer, he was stuck in place. He wasn't able to gain his voice until Kaoru gained his senses. Of course, he wasn't fast enough fro Hotaka not to notice the affect his scent seemed to have on him.

 

Hotaka turned away himself, his face feeling like it was about to melt. He covered his cheeks.

 

"I-it's fine… y-you just h-have a w-weird amount of n-new instincts t-to… uh… work through…" He assured him, though his voice sounded quite unsure.

Kaoru kept his back to Hotaka, too embarrassed to turn around and face him. His own cheeks had flushed a bright red. He could hear the unsureness in Hotaka's voice, the way his speech was broken, and the tone of voice he used. "Sorry again.." He said softly, now taking in a deep breath. When he released, it came with an awkward loud laugh to break the silence. He adjusted his pants to place his member under the belt, and the shirt over the top, so that it couldn't be seen. He turned back around, a blush still slightly on his cheeks. "I.. I will check that the numbers were added correctly." He said, grabbing his phone and doing just that.

 

The text message went through quickly and easily. Which made Kaoru sigh in relief. "I should.. probably let you leave.." He said, looking to Hotaka and then the door. "I don't want you to loose your job." He laughed a little. "Or that you were kidnapped or something."

 

Whenever Hotaka would check the message from Kaoru, he would see a casual greeting with an emoji. Something that matched Kaoru's way of thinking and the aura about him.

 

"Yo d(▼-▼*)"

Hotaka smiled when the text came up on his screen. He was never particularly good with emojis so he almost never used them, making him sound pretty stiff in a lot of his messages. So just for fun, he quickly replied,

 

"Hi! ꀯ ( ⓪ ᆺ⓪ )ﾉ彡☆"

 

"Looks like they're correct," He replied.

 

Hotaka nodded, looking at the door as well. He hadn't thought of it as Kaoru keeping him, since the wanted to stay, but he really did need to get back to work. His new boss had been looking for an excuse to fire him, so he'd have to really hurry to the next delivery to make up for time.

 

"You're right… I should get going… Do you want me to come back later tonight?" He asked him, then his face turned vividly pink. "I-I just mean to check in on y-you! I just fi-figured you're…you're… a little lonely…"

Kaoru's blush had subsided. He smiled at Hotaka and shook his head. "I'm fine. You don't have to worry about me." His smile turned into a grin. "At least not yet!" He laughed a just a little. "It's already pretty late, you must want to go home and sleep after work. Besides, I have books I can read and video games I can play." A slight smile was still on his lips, the thought of someone else worrying about whether he was lonely or not made him feel good. Not to mention the blush on Hotaka's cheeks was adorable. But Hotaka coming back again, later that night, was probably a bad idea. Kaoru found him attractive, and was drawn to even more with that sweet scent. He didn't want to loose control, push down and scare off the one person who was able to help him. He had to keep it in his pants. Stay in control. Not be some weird perverted spotted cat thing. He walked over to the door slowly, not really wanting to.

"Oh, okay." Hotaka looked away, embarrassed. He must of sounded like such a fool! Why did he say he thought he was lonely?! He had no way of thinking that, he might be the loner type, after all! It wasn't like Hotaka didn't understand that.

 

But he felt worse since he really wanted to come back tonight. And not just to check in on him, but to hang out with him more. He didn't have any supernatural sense of smell, but he was drawn to Kaoru, also. And he didn't think it was just because he was attractive.

 

"Yeah, I probably should take it easy after work, weekends are always busy," He said, nodding, mumbling around trying to save face. "But… remember, whenever you want my sisters to come over to try a glamor on you, just let me know." Hotaka told him.

 

He muttered a quick, small 'bye' once he was lead to the door, and quickly left, a metaphoric tail between his legs.

Kaoru followed Hotaka to the door, and bid him farewell. Not that he wanted to. He thanked him for his help, and felt much more relaxed knowing that he wasn't alone in the situation, and that he wasn't going to be taken away for experiments. Or at least he hoped not. But he still thought, or rather, felt that Hotaka was a good person. Kaoru didn't usually trust people so easily, but he didn't have much of a choice. He leaned against the back of the door, taking in a deep breath and releasing a deep sigh. Whatever happened next, Kaoru didn't really mind. He just felt happy, for some odd reason.

 

It wasn't until the next day, in the afternoon, that Kaoru texted Hotaka.

 

"I ran out of food Σ(१ロ१)"

 

"I got super angry last night, and then this morning."

 

"Then I just realized it's all gone..."

"I'll be right there with food, so please be patient." Hotaka texted back. He had been off of work for barely an hour, he worked weird hours as it was mostly a front, when he got the texts. He had mentioned Kaoru to his family, but nothing really specific, he just wanted them to be prepared when Kaoru was ready to try a glamor. He drove to a store and picked up a few basic groceries. Nothing fancy, just a lot of staples, and plenty of meat. He wanted him to have enough so he could make himself a simple dish when he really felt hungry, when he didn't want to wait for Hotaka to bring him something. Of course, Hotaka was also bringing a large, hot meal from a restaurant fairly close to Kaoru's apartment.

 

He forgot the elevator was broken. He hoped no one physically disabled lived in the building. So he had to climb up with arms full of grocery bags and hot food up to Kaoru's apartment. He set everything down to text him that he had arrived, and then knocked on the door.

Kaoru was laying on his couch, an arm draped over his face to cover his eyes. Every so often his stomach groaned with hunger, which was followed by a groan from his mouth. He was hungry, so hungry. So hungry he could eat a horse. So hungry he could die of hunger. He didn't blame Hotaka though. He blamed himself. He blamed whatever made him this way.
