How did you start RPing??

So, I have a hard time making friends. Online and offline. I'm pretty introverted too so when I finally do make a friend I get so overwhelmed I end up ignoring them out of anxiety and ruining any possible chance of friendship. When I roleplay it's easier for me because I can pretend I'm not my normal self but someone who's really suave and cool and all. So when I was 12, after I read and watched the Harry Potter series, I RPed as Hermione Granger (kms)

 

I still really love to RP, but I mainly RP stuff that already exists. My favorite thing to RP is actually STILL Harry Potter ;-; More specifically, I love to RP Lord Voldemort/Tom Riddle (I love to RP psychopaths because I'm actual trash haha that rhymes).

I don't have much experience in RPing and it's only been since I have been lurking on YO that I have realised I have done it in the past without calling it RP. One reason I'm attracted to RP is that I get to be somebody else for a bit. I get to experience existence as if I was not the person who I am. Perhaps as someone I could have been!? I find it difficult to phrase properly, but imagining acting as someone else gives me the chance to think about my actions and or actions of others in a different way to the way I would using standard reflection. I find often the characters I create reflect some part of my own personality that do not usually come to the surface. An example is that I find socialising really difficult so my characters tend to be really socially inept (based in my lived experience) or the leader of the socialising (based in my experiences of extroverted people). I'm not certain if any of this makes sense!

 

Tl;dr: I RP because I find catharsis in pretending to be someone else. [emoji1]

Hmm aside from Virtual sex I really love the idea of creating characters in mind and setting the mood and scenes. It's like a low-budget manga/movie/anime/you call it i name it, running inside my mind. The scenes that unfold in a roleplay makes my mind go hunt for fantasy, it made me realize that there's a bit in there on the boundary between sharing ideas with your co-partner and just plain literature.

 

To be honest, I like creating new characters and drawing them in puny sketches so yeah and plus I'm a bit enthusiastic with the sex scenes. *bomb right there. Kidding aside, RP's a great way of establishing friendship and ideas.

I also love that experience! I've cowritten books/fanfiction with people and it's almost the same feeling. It's really satisfying to be able to share that. (and also the sexy times yes hi hello)

Well it was a official way but back when I was younger me and my friend would have sleep overs and tell a story between the two of us (respond and reply.) Upon hours we didn't know what we were doing later on in life I found out it was roleplaying I still tell the same story with her and it's been years it's like watching your children grow up.(we used oc's)

Many many years ago on Yahoo Groups (do people stil use them?). I had been browing for stuff related to Resident Evil/Biohazard and stumbled accross a yaoi RPG for it. So I hopped in, got my Chris Redfield shoes on and I think it lasted for about a year or so? Many ups and down but it was really fun! I still have a print out somewhere for momery lane and cringe fests. Haha

About roleplaying, I've never tried it. I like making up stories and being creative in general-painting, drawing, crafts etc. but I don't feel comfortable showing any of the things I make to other people, I feel like they get tainted somehow after someone sees them and I can never look at them or read them again. LOL I'm weird. So rp sounds fun in general but I'm pretty sure I'd not be into it. And now I realize this reply is totally pointless but you know, harry potter and stuff, couldn't contain myself...

I was about 8 or 9 and this was when YouTube had a much more "forum" side to it with Youtube Groups and Youtube Streams. I joined the invite only "Anime Saviors" group. Talked on the phone for hours with them. We would RP in the group every once in a while. Then I fell in love with an 18 year old girl who sounded like Haruko Haruhara from FLCL(my fav anime of all time). I really thought that I could convince her to date me because I was a dumb little boy who thought he was way too good at making people like him online. Needless to say she wasn't into it but she was a really nice friend that I spent hours on the phone with (I was mature for my age okay).

 

THEN I found a website called Panchira(no longer existent) when I was around 10 or 11 and joined a Bible Black group while not knowing what Bible Black was. I played a young neko boy because I knew I was a submissive little twink even at that age.... and in the rp got called up to the principle's office where I was introduced to the idea of tentacles being used in RP.
