GodofMischief
Name: Kanen [[Meaning- One who is a leader]] Age: 24 Gender: Male Sexuality: Gay Position: Seke Personality: Kanen is kind and mellow tempered. He does not like allowing situations to knock him off his center and he always looks at both sides of the coin before making a solid judgment. Due to his mellow nature and the wise advice he tends to give, despite his young age, Kanen's people look to him to lead whenever his father is away from their tribe. Though Kanen does have quite a fierce temper when provoked, he is by far one of the most patient and lenient of his tribe members. Bio: Growing up inside his tribe, Kanen learned the art of survival from very early on. His world was one of wilderness and freedom. Never was he confined inside a structure of any sort unless it was time to sleep. For hours, the young boy would wander his tribe's lands with others his age. There was never a dull moment and the more their young eyes saw, the more their hearts learned to love the world they had been born into. In due time, they grew to be fine tribe members and warriors, protecting their family and keeping their land as untouched and as pure as it had always been in their eyes. Though there had never been a terrible threat to their home before, Kanen and his friends vowed to protect their home until the last breath left their bodies. Likes: Animals of all shapes and sizes, the ocean and its majestic nature, the sound of the island life around him, sunsets and sunrises, peace and tranquility. Dislikes: Disorder, being unable to fix a situation, dishonesty, the thought of mindless destruction and the idea of being taken away from his home. Unique attributes: From before he could walk, Kanen has always had this unique attachment to animals. He seems to understand them better than most and they seem to understand him. As such, he shares a special bond with the animals that live alongside him and through him, his tribe has been able to gain a fragment of that bond with the animals for themselves. Extras: Like many in his tribe, Kanen has most of his body tattooed in a manner on known to his tribe. The number of marks on him show his rank inside his tribe as well as holding a secret meaning only known by his people. For years Kanen had been living with his tribe on an island that many could say had very rarely ever been touched by the outside world. His land, no matter if it was surrounded on all sides by the vast ocean, was his paradise. He loved it with his whole essence and from the moment he could pick up a weapon and pull his weight in the tribe, he had vowed to keep it safe. And safe it had remained for many seasons, never had there been a disturbance in it that required his immediate attention or that of his father's. Their island home had remained tranquil and peaceful....until today....when things had apparently taking an interesting turn with the arrival of individuals that seemed to come from the sea itself on a small vessel of some sort. Crouched quietly on the thick branch of one of a large Dillenia trees, Kanen peered silently down through the leaves at the north beach of his home and the people that were sprawled out around the sand. Golden amber eyes narrowed slowly as he tightened the hold he had on the dagger in his left hand. Unease flooded through him but Kanen willed himself to keep a calm mind. His father was currently on the opposite side of the island dealing with a small problem in the tribe, as such, Kanen was leading this current patrol of their lands. He had not thought they would have found anything different from any other day, but it would seem that he had been quite wrong. "Kanen.....who are they? And how did they get here? What do they want?" the sound of a childhood voice vibrated out quietly into the air from the man perched next to him on the thick branch. His long golden hair was braided back away from his face and his pale blue eyes shone with obvious misgivings as he kept them locked onto the intruders. "I do not know, Masou....but we need to be careful" Kanen replied just as silently. Glancing briefly behind them at the group of 5 that had joined him and his childhood friend on their patrol, Kanen raised his hand briefly and with a swift gesture he signaled for one of their archers to raise a bow and fire a warning arrow towards where the intruders were laying. He did not want to kill one of them, at least not unless there was no choice. For now, he just wanted to inform them that they were not alone and that they were not exactly welcomed. As soon as the arrow sank into the sand a few inches away from one of the men on the beach, Kanen gestured for his group to follow him as they carefully made their way down the tree and approached the beach through the cover of the shadows the island trees provided them. Nodding at Masou when they had arrived at the edge of the tree line, still remaining hidden in shadows, Kanen didn't bat a lash when his friend raised his voice to call out in a serious and icy tone of voice: "Who are you?! Why are you on our lands?!" Knowing that their own unique language might not have been understood by their "visitors", so to speak, Kanen waited to see what reaction the strangers would have. Should it be an aggressive one, he would not hesitate to give the signal to attack. For now, however, he was more curious than anything else. Kyte
Name: Rowan Bennett Age: 23 Gender: Male Sexuality: Gay Position: Seke Personality: Rowan has a cynical, subdued personality. Constant let-downs in his life has lead him to keep his expectations to a minimum, and only celebrate certain victories. He's pretty guarded, and tends to lash out, if people happen to get too close. Bio: Since his childhood, Rowan had lived a low-key and uneventful life. A person of little to no consequence, he grew up with a lonesome existence, often going unnoticed. This changed when he met a young man that would later become a very intense, and very toxic love interest, all before he even graduated highschool... Rowan spent all of one year in college, before he bailed in favor of being a trophy boyfriend, and proceeded a long relationship of passion and mutual violence. This only stopped after his family had to get involved, staging an intervention, and finally convincing him to break things off. As an extra measure, he was shipped off on a cruise ship, so he could further reflect on his life with minimal distractions. Likes: Music, Excitement, Surfing, Hot baths Dislikes: Controlling behavior, Stagnancy Unique attributes: Despite his size, Rowan is actually pretty strong, and incredibly durable. Years of roughness had conditioned his body to endure and deal a fair amount of damage. Extras: Rowan actually has a huge hair-kink, thus why he's grown it out so much. "Let's see... Our course was here... We capsized around here..." Rowan sighed, as he watched one of the crew mates from the cruiser he was on try to triangulate the position where their raft had been cast-off. There was at least a whole night of floating on the ocean since the ship sank, and the life rafts scattered, so they had to be a ways off. "There's nothing but blue in this area, what the hell?" There were groans from the rest of the castaways, followed by quickened mutterings of worry. Rowan snorted. "So this turned out to be a great vacation..." He snarked, as he flopped back into the sand. Looking up to the blue sky above him, Rowan tried to block out the other castaways, reflecting on why he actually agreed to this trip in the first place. True, things had been rough at home, especially since his gut-wrenching breakup with his lover of many years, but at least he wasn't lost on some uncharted land, with little means of survival. He began contemplating if his break-up was worth all of this trouble, when he felt something dart past his ear, and plunge into the sand by his head. "Shit!" Rowan cursed, rolling himself up on his feet, turning to where he thought the arrow had originated. He backed up with the rest of his party, watching as their provokers swarmed in from the tree lines, spears and bows in their hand. One of them barked something, brandishing his spear at them threateningly. This wasn't good. Clearly, they were trespassing on some native land, they were angry, and Rowan for one couldn't understand what they were shouting at him. He saw the writing on the wall. "We're gonna die." He resigned. "Couldn't you try being a little more positive?" The crew-mate hushed, shivering next to him. Rowan nodded."Sure. We'll probably die quickly." He replied earnestly. "Impalement's most likely preferable to exposure..."
GodofMischief
Watching the strangers from where he stood calmly beside Masou, Kanen's cool amber gaze swept from one face to the other and back again. These people didn't seem to mean any harm but he knew that it was not wise to judge too quickly a situation. He had barely just laid eyes on them and though they appeared to act like nothing more than scared little rabbits, he knew things could change dramatically in a blink of an eye. While Kanen's didn't want to create any pointless bloodshed, he wasn't going to allow danger to fall upon his lands or his tribe. He was the son of their Chief for a reason and now was the time to put all his father had taught him into action. Both in calming those of the tribe that were with him and the terrified strangers that stared at them as if they were about to be eaten or dismembered.....something he couldn't think wasn't extremely far off if the strangers showed any signs of aggression. Inhaling deeply, Kanen rested a gentle hand on Masou's shoulder for a brief moment before stepping forward in front of his patrol. It was an obvious sign to show these strangers who was in charge at the moment. Though Kanen didn't brandish his weapon like the rest in his group of tribes men, by the way he carried him and how he simply looked at the intruders, it was obvious he was not someone to be trifled with. Speaking a language these intruders would be able to understand, would be difficult. For as long as he could remember, Kanen and his people had only spoken the language native to this island. Yet he knew that nothing would come of it if he couldn't make these strange people understand what was being said to them. Thankfully, there was a small ray of hope. Though these were the first living strangers to set foot on his lands, they weren't the first who spoke an odd language. There had been strange books of sorts that has often been found washed ashore throughout the years and Kanen, being the curious little boy he had once been, has been all to eager to learn from them. He might not have a full grasp in the language he heard whispered between these strangers in front of him, however, he did like to think that he knew the basics and could defend himself. "Why are you here? Who sent you to our land?" He asked calmly after a moment of silence. His tone was almost soothing and cool yet it held the obvious accent of his native tongue. It was obvious that he wasn't an expert at this odd language but he knew enough. "You do not belong here" he added after a moment, eyes never leaving the strange group in front of him even as Masou stepped forward to flank him once more and his tribe members soon followed that gesture. Kyte
Rowan blinked, when one of them had started talking to them in english. That was certainly a turn. Before he could think to even speak, everyone else around him began to speak all at once. A sudden din of voices trying to carry over each other, as they all tried to explain their situation. Of course, this clearly wasn't going to be helpful at all. "Yeah, let's everyone start babbling at once, that'll clear up the confusion." He narrowed his eyes at the rest of the crew, as they hushed upon hearing his cutting voice. "Idiots. All of you." He said, with no small amount of definiteness. Rowan has had to deal with their nonsense since the dark hours of the night, being tossed around in the ocean in a tiny raft, and now being face-to-face to a troop of native warriors, he'd hit his limit. Rowan stepped forward, coming toe-to-toe with the exhibited leader of the group, looking up at the taller man. "We were caught in a storm, we washed up here. All on accident." Rowan said flatly. He gestured to the hazard-orange life raft that was laid out flat on the sand. "That's the boat we came in. We won't survive on the sea." He explained, hoping that the man would understand his words, and the situation they were in.
GodofMischief
Titling his head slightly to one side when the outsiders all began to babble at once, Kanen frowned and glanced briefly at Masou as his friend raised an unimpressed brow. The fact that all their rapid words were mushing into a giant mess wasn't helping in the least, considering Kanen wasn't as familiar with their language as they obviously were. For a moment, he wondered if asking what had happened to them had been the right course of action. It would have been far simpler to take them to his tribe and let his father deal with them when word reached him. However, Kanen didn't want to just dump this on his father's shoulders, as Heir, he had to help in any way possible. Figuring out exactly what to do with these strange people seemed to just fall under the task for the day. Blinking mildly curious when one of the batch broke off to walk forward and stand toe to toe with him, Kanen's facial expression remained as serene and untouched as it had been moments before. On the other hand, Masou bristled beside him at the blunt disregard for the rank of authority Kanen had on this land. Outsider or not, it was obvious that his best friend was not taking what he saw as a rude gesture quite as calmly as Kanen would have hoped. Seeing the subtle movement of Masou lifting his spear in the direction of the outsider, Kanen reached out silently to grasp the tip of the weapon and push it away from its course. There would be no bloodshed here, not unless there was need. It was a message he conveyed to Masou with a stern narrowing of the eyes when he flickered them towards his friend. "Wait with the others" Kanen murmured in their native tongue, not batting an eye at the rage and confusion in the blue eyes of the man beside him. "He needs to be put in his place. I will not tolerate such disrespect!" Masou protested loudly, only to take a step back when Kanen narrowed his eyes into a glare. "He does not know what he is doing. They are outsiders, they do not understand our customs. Now wait with the others, Masou. I will tend to this" Kanen all but growled, never removing his eyes from the figure of his friend who scoffed softly before quietly doing as he had been told. Turning his attention back to the man in front of him, Kanen studied his features briefly before parting his lips to speak in the outsider's language once more. "I am saddened for your misfortune.....However, you do not belong here and my people will not be pleased with your presence. This is our home and we have kept it safe and untouched for many years.....I will take you to my father, he will decide what to do with you all. Do not try to fight us, it will lead to death on your side. I suggest to follow us without putting up a struggle" he spoke calmly. Turning his back on the long haired man and his strange group, Kanen signaled for his patrol to encircle the outsiders securely. Though they were not overly brandishing their weapons at the intruders, it was obvious what would happen should one of the strangers try to fight them. "Come" Kanen called for the outsiders to follow as he began to walk away, Masou falling to his side once again after casting a particular look of dislike and distrust over his shoulder. Kyte
Rowan stared at the Leader's back a good long while, as they were herded into the forest, along with the one who stood closely by his side. He wasn't exactly crazy about this arrangement, he was definitely annoyed and somewhat frustrated, but he supposed that a little extra time couldn't possibly worsen their current situation. "Do you think they're gonna kill us?" Someone mumbled softly, trying not to provoke one of the men shepherding them deeper into the island. "I probably would, if I were them." Rowan answered plainly. "These people survived the advent of colonialism, and remained more or less undiscovered for all this time; they've probably adapted a very definite way of dealing with trespassers..." He sighed, trying to ignore the frightened whimperings of the people behind him. Rowan had no place for hopeful illusions in his heart. He hadn't for many, many years now. To him, it was easier to just face reality and see it for what it was, than to have his hopes dashed if something didn't turn out the way he would have liked it. When you've been let down enough times, your expectations just continue to shrink. As they hiked further into the lush forests, Rowan began to take note of the wildlife around him. He probably wasn't going to get another chance, so why not? By itself, the forest was actually very beautiful, full of vibrant looking flora, and inhabited by a wide array of exotic animals, all of them so interesting and entrancing to look at... GodofMischief
Walking calmly in front of the group, Kanen kept his amber eyes staring steadily ahead. His spine crawled with the sensation of eyes on him but he didn't bother to so much as cast a small glance back. He truly did feel bad for the situation these strangers had found themselves in, but he couldn't be overly lenient with them when he had only just laid eyes upon them. Once he reached his father and the older man was told of the situation, then perhaps Kanen would have a few moments to think of how he could deal with these outsiders. For now, however, he would treat them as the threat they still were until his Chief laid down his judgement. After all, his people came first, no matter if the clear terror in the eyes of these strangers made him almost want to comfort them in any way he could. Something he wouldn't even considering doing with Masou at his side, his best friend would probably think he'd lost his mind or something of the sort. Gazing up through the treetops as they began the climb up a treachourous mountain path to where his village was located nestled in the center of the mountain, Kanen's keen eyes sought the shape of a very dear and age long friend. Inhaling a deep air, Kanen paused for a moment before releasing a piercing whistle into the silence of the air around them. For just a moment, his tribe members and he came to a stop and waited until the familiar screech was heard high above them. It didn't take long until the silhouette of a good sized avian came into view, it's features shadowed by the brightness of the sun through the trees. Letting out another whistle, this time with a lower pitch than the first, Kanen lifted his arm calmly when the silhouette took a sharp turn and began to dive towards the group. It's wings carried it safely through the tree branches until the appearance of what was clearly a red taiked hawk, soared down towards them with its talons outstretched. Not flinching when the bird drew infinitely close, Kanen kept his arm out until the bird's feet found purchase on it. Sharp talons gently grasped at the skin of his arm, not trying to do any serious damage, only simply trying to gain a bit of balance on the limb that smoothly folded closer to the warm body of the human the hawk had known since before leaving the nest. Stroking the soft brown feathers of what was one of his best friends in the animal world, Kanen gazed at the sharp golden eyes of his friend while saying calmly "Taka, go find father. Alert him that we have unexpected guests on the island. Make sure he knows we will be meeting him back in the village". With a bob of its head, almost as if it were nodding to his words, the hawk spread its wings once more and with a mighty flap, lifted up into the blue skies again and vanished from view through the tree tops. Hearing the soft rumble like growl of another familiar animal behind him, Kanen turned to look towards the group of strangers curiously. His brows lifted in both curiousity and surprise at the sight of the second animal he could call a dear friend, slinking through the trees to approach the redhead stranger with silent intent. It's black fur seemed to ripple with ever step the massive feline took while its green eyes remained locked on their target. The large panther all but ignored the other strangers as it padded up to the redhead stranger before lifting a leg to buff him lightly on the side with a massive paw. "Kellas seems to have an interest in you" Kanen murmured softly, amber eyes watching his old friend while the rest of his tribe members mumbled surprised amongst themselves. It was the first time they had seen Kellas so at ease around someone he was not familiar with.
Kyte
Rowan watched with slight disbelief, as the man began to murmur a few short words to the bird, before it took off to the sky, possibly engaging in whatever task it was instructed. "That was a Disney moment if i ever saw one." He snarked quietly to himself, before a rumbling growl pulled him from his reverie, and he saw a gigantic cat slink out from the forest brush. The other castaways, spooked by the imposing creature, backed away, leaving Rowan to stand-off with it alone. Rowan had to remind himself to breathe. He stared down the feline expectantly, his muscles clenching and unclenching. He was frightened, but his instinct willed him to shut that part of himself down, so he could face whatever impeding danger was about to be imposed on him. He was hit with sudden epiphany, when he flash-backed to his ex's face. 'God, I do have a problem...' For all the things he was expecting, he'd never guess that the panther would start shoving him with it's gigantic paw. He shifted his leg, careful of the flexing claws that otherwise would have shredded his pants and tear through his flesh. Rowan looked to their leader, as he remarked that the panther, Kellas apparently, found him interesting. Rowan puffed. "Yeah..." He said, trying not to let show how nervous or excited he was over the fact that a gigantic predator was pawing at him. "Cats always seem to, for reasons I've never understood..." He revealed, remembering the mobs of neighborhood cats that would follow him back home. Rowan had suspicions that his dangling hair played some factor into it... "What do I do?" He asked, while gently shoving the panther away, trying to keep it from knocking him over onto his rear.
