Looking up when he heard Nick’s voice Daniel sighed and glanced away from the older man. He wasn’t even sure what to say, but he had problems with Chris, problems that he knew were more than likely his fault. Daniel knew it was him who was being difficult and unreasonable, but he didn’t understand why Chris just didn’t seem to get his feelings about this. Even if he knew how important it was to his brother to find his birth parents, Daniel really wished that the other man just wouldn’t. Why hunt for people or get to know people who didn’t want you?

 

Looking towards Nick as he held his arms up, almost as if surrendering he sighed once more. Before he could stop himself, Daniel leaned forward and pressed his lips against Nick’s, when he pulled back he gave the older man a small smile. “Let’s just go see that movie, shall we? We don’t need to worry about my brother or any problems I am currently having with him.” In all honesty, he didn’t completely want to admit that it was his fault there even was a problem. As he pulled back another thought came to him and he spoke, “Hmm… I really could get used to kissing you.”

Nick was still expecting a hit or a harsh remark from the other but instead he got a kiss on the lips which let him blocked like a statue. he even didn't remember hearing anything after the kiss. He just stared at Daniel still surprised that it was him who kissed him and not vice-versa. It was a start and he licked it. hurray Chris for blowing it

 

Taking his car keys he grabbed Daniels hand, linking his fingers together, pulling him out the door, but stopping on the doorway turning to look at him. Now the were both on the same height. He bend quickly over and placed a quick kiss on Daniel's lips.

 

"I think i would to" he said smiling and pulling him towards his sporty car.

Allowing Nick to lead the way, Daniel followed him silently as his hand was taken and their fingers laced together. As they left the house he was caught off guard when Nick turned back to him and their lips pressed together again in another kiss. Even though it was just a quick kiss, it was enough for him to be able to hum his approval. Daniel really could get used to being closer to Nick, especially considering how things were going with him and Chris lately.

 

"I'm glad you can get used to it as well. We could... make it a habit." Daniel said giving Nick an innocent look. As if making kissing each other a habit was innocent and wouldn't lead to anything else. Of course anyone who knew Daniel knew that wasn't necessarily true. Get him to admire you enough especially after his first time with Chris and he was more willing to get into bed with you. Chris had taken away any fear he had of his first time, and with that out of the way he was more willingly to explore his sexual desires with others.

"I dont think you'll get the full packeg yet" he smiled , winking at the boy then driving downtown to the cinema. Thanks to his gps they found it quickly and also a parking lot near it. Once out they headed to the main entrance and stand in line to buy tickets.

 

"Now this should be fun" be said having an idiotic smile on his face. He was happy. Even if it was only for a little. Right now he was happy.

Chris on the other side was feeling misserable. After drinking two bears he headed towards the parking lot where he left his car which was right on the otherside from cinema. Turning jis head around while walking the road he saw at the entrance a familiar face. Daniel? he thought looking better making sure he wasnt seen. The person next to him was familiar too. As he looked better he felt a punch in his stomach and heart realising who it was. Nick

 

Bitting his lips and feeling his body trembling from anger amd rushed to his car and drove away.

Daniel childishly stuck his tongue out at Nick, "Like you could refuse me for long." He responded with a small smile. It was so easy to forget his current problems when he was with Nick. Daniel had to admit he felt much better now that they were out of the house and spending time together, his mind didn't remotely wander to his brother. "Is anything we do together not fun?" Daniel questioned raising an eyebrow.

 

He wasn't even remotely aware of the fact that Chris had spotted the two of them together. In fact, if it wasn't Nick or the line they were currently standing in he was completely unaware of anyone or anything else. "

"Is anything we do together not fun?"

 

"Well ...." he said faking to think about it, hitting his chin with his finger like he was trying to remember something but still keeping his smile on his face. "Ok ... just kidding" he said quickly when he saw the other looking at him. "I was just making fun of you" he added ruffling the boys hair.

 

The line was moving fast so the manage to buy the tickets and get in the cinema. After buying popcorn they found their places right back up of the room and sat waiting for the movie to start. Nick was starting to eat popcorn and from time to time to throw a few in Daniel, laughing like a child.

Chris on the other side was angry, with his hands tight on the steering wheel driving like crazy, now understanding why Daniel was pushing him away so harsh. He got back with Nick? With Nick! he was screaming in his mind driving with speed. He just couldn't believe it. "Of all guys he knows he turned to Nick .... Damn it!" he shouted reaching the speeding limit in just seconds. "And here I was thinking that he was just scared of the fact that i might go with my real parents. Hagh!" he laughed ironic, driving with way above limit.

 

Just when he had a corner to pass, he got on the other side of the road but another car was coming his way. The wheels have scrambled as he tried to avoid an impact but the other car hit him in the back, making his car turning and turning until he hit a pillar, hitting his head on the steering wheel so hard that he lost conscious.

 

His parents were called that Chris was in hospital so once they reached it they called Daniel to let him know about it.

Just when the movie started Nick heard Daniels phone ringing. It was Chris number on the display, so before the other would do anything, he took his phone and put it on silent.

"Not today" he said slipping it in his pocket.

Tilting his head slightly, Daniel watched Nick with a slightly confused look when he seemed to be thinking about moments when they hung out that they didn’t have fun. The longer Nick thought the more Daniel started to wonder if there really was some, just as he was about to speak Nick did instead. Telling him that he was just teasing him as he ruffled his hair, “Nick!” Daniel whined as he quickly ran his own hand through his hair to make sure that it wasn’t sticking up oddly.

 

It wasn’t much longer before they had their tickets and were walking inside to get their snacks before heading to their seats. Settling into his seat he shifted managing to pull his legs up under him despite the small space. He couldn’t help but laugh softly when Nick occasionally tossed a piece of popcorn at him. “You are such a big kid.” He laughed as he raised a hand to block one of the pieces.

 

Daniel had to admit he was enjoying the time he was spending with Nick, it was so easy to just enjoy everything. It really was a rare moment, spending even a minute with Nick made him feel better and forget all of his problems. It was just as the movie started that his phone started ringing, reaching into his pocket he pulled it out. Having just enough time to notice it was Chris’s number before the phone was taken from him, his eyes moving to Nick who silenced it and spoke as he slipped it into his own pocket. Daniel knew that Nick was right, he should just leave it be, and with the other man having his phone it was just one less thing to grab his attention.

 

“Okay.” He responded as he rested against his seat and turned his gaze back to the movie. As the movie played before them he ate his popcorn, though halfway through the movie he had slipped his hand into the older man’s. Lacing their fingers together as he shifted so that he could lean slightly against Nick. When the movie was over he shifted to let his legs slip out from under him and got to his feet, leaning over he pressed his lips to Nick's. "This was nice." He said softly.

As the movie was rolling on he was eating popcorn looking at Daniel from time to time. He missed this time spending together like together together. Keeping a smile on his face for the rest of the movie, he was thinking how he missed this. How he missed having him near him and be able to kiss him again, not just teasing or flirting. It seemed that after all the waiting was worth it.

 

On the half of the movie he felt Daniels hand on his and was a little surprise but smiled seeing their hands together. He hold him by the hand, not wanting to let go. After the movie end it , he was just about to clean his seat when Daniel kissed him softly. "I'm glad you liked it" he said returning his phone back, heading outside the theater.

 

His parents had tried to call but seeing that he didn't respond they send him a message with all the details about the accident that Chris had and where they were.

“We really should do more together, don’t you think?” Daniel said as he was given his phone back. Taking it as they left the building and started back towards Nick’s car. He glanced down at his phone to notice that along with the missed call he had a text message from his parents. Confused he unlocked his phone and opened the text message, he was stunned stopping mid step as he read over the message. Instantly it made him realize that the call he hadn’t taken and that he and Nick both thought was Chris must have been his parents.

 

For a moment, he didn’t move or speak, not sure what to say or do. Part of him was still mad with his brother, the other part of him knew that he should be there for him as well. But… what had gotten into his brother? An accident? Chris was normally so careful when he was driving but this… this was so reckless.

 

Shaking his head, he looked up at Nick and spoke, “Chris is in the hospital. My parents said he got in an accident.” He didn’t say any more than that, not knowing all the specifics himself. Despite all the problems he had been having with Chris he didn’t know what he should do. Should he go to the hospital where he knew his brother wasn’t even coherent or awake for that matter, or should he just spend the rest of his day with Nick like he had originally planned? He was so confused.

“We really should do more together, don’t you think?”

 

"I think so to" he said with a smile almost getting to his car. He was about to speak when he locked back and saw Daniel stopped a few steps behind him, looking all pale while he was reading something on his phone. His smile faded and looked confused not understanding what happened. Seeing that Daniel didn't react he moved in front of the boy looking concerned.

 

"Hey ... Are you alright?" he asked slowly looking at the phone and back at the boy. When Daniel spoke he raised his eyebrows in surprised about the information he received and looked aside. Damn it .... why it has do get in between us every time ... Biting his lips he looked at Daniel, noticing that he was struggling inside himself not knowing what to do. He sigh.

 

"Where is he? At which hospital?" he asked letting his hand on the boy's shoulder. "I can drive you there", he added turning the boy's face to look at him. "Don't worry. Just tell me where we need to go" he said softly.

Daniel hadn’t glanced up from his phone, and he knew that he must have paled considerably when he had found out about Chris. It just… he felt terrible not just for Chris but also Nick. None of this was fair to the older man, Nick stood before him, always wanting a chance and for them to spend more time together. Every time they seemed to try his brother always ended up coming between them, though this was a more unforeseen circumstance he still felt terrible.

 

“You don’t have to do that.” Daniel said softly his eyes falling from Nick’s face. He didn’t want the older man to feel like he had to take him to see Chris. He could just call his parents to come get him, but at the same time the offer meant more to him than he would have thought. Without realizing it Daniel leaned forward pressing himself against Nick as his eyes drifted shut, taking in a slightly shaky breath he told him what hospital his brother was in.

 

“I… really appreciate it.” Still, he felt guilty. After a moment he pulled away and looked up at Nick, “You don’t have to take me if you don’t want to. I can call my parents instead.” The last thing he wanted was for Nick to do something he didn’t want to do. Yet he also didn’t want to part ways either, he wanted Nick by his side.

Nick embraced Daniel, holding him closer to his chest, gently touching Daniel's hair to calm him down. "Even if I don't like it, i do it for you" he whispered kissing Daniels forehead, leaning a little bit back to look at the boy. "Your parents are at the hospital i presume, and I am here. It's easier for me to take you there than call them here" he added sighing not liking the fact that he was going to take Daniel to the man he hated. But he was doing it for the boy not Chris.

 

"Come ... " he said taking the boy's hand and getting in car, starting to drive at the address the other gave him. Arriving in the parking lot looking at Daniel. He took the boy's hand and leaned into a soft kiss on the lips. "I'm fine, so don't worry to much or you're gonna get wrinkles" he joked poking softly the boy's forehead. "I'm not leaving you alone" he added as he got out of the car. They went inside , holding hands for the whole time.

 

Chris was examined but it was still unconscious. He was set in a room while he was still not sleeping/unconscious.

Daniel wasn’t surprised that when he leaned into Nick the other immediately embraced him. He truly expected no less from the older man. Still, it was comforting as he felt Nick’s hand run gently through his hair in a calming manner. “I suppose you are right.” Nick had a point, with his parents already at the hospital it would be easier for Nick to take him than it would be for him to call them and have one of them leave the hospital just to pick him up and go back.

 

Following Nick as he was lead to the car he got into it, buckling up as they started off towards their new location. The closer they got the more queasy and unsettled Daniel started to feel. When they arrived at the hospital and Nick had parked Daniel had expected to be left there alone to meet his parents and maybe even see Chris. He wasn’t expecting Nick to turn to him, tell him he wasn’t leaving him alone and getting out of the car with him. Honestly. That meant more to him than he would have ever imagined as he instantly moved back over to Nick’s side and slipped his hand into the older man’s.

 

“Thank you… for everything.” Daniel said softly as they started to head off towards the building. It didn’t take him as long as he would have originally thought to find his parents.

"Daniel! Oh thank God you are here" said his mother hugging him strong in her arms feeling all her emotions were about to burst out. His father didn't say a word. He just looked at Daniel and the man who was standing next to him holding his son's hand.

"Chris got in a car accident. I-I don't know how or what happened ... They are still not telling us nothing" she said letting go of her son whipping up her tears that had started to fall on he cheeks.

 

Nick was just standing there not saying a word, but he kind of caught Daniel's father gaze and it wasn't a pleasant one. He let go slowly of the boy's hand to let him handle his family business and went to the information stand to ask about Chris. The nurse told him that in the moment he was moved to a room but the doctors are still examining him.

 

"who is for patient Christopher James?" asked a doctor coming in the hall.

 

"We are ... We are his family" said their father.

"We manage to stabilize him but he didn't woke up from the shock. He got a concussion on the head but it is minor. He should wake up in a few more hours. If you would like to see him is this way" said the doctor pointing the next hall and asked them to fallow him, reaching the room 240.

 

All this time Nick was standing behind Daniel, but the feeling he had was harsh. He wasn't part of the family or friend. He felt like an intruder. He didn't belong there.

Daniel hugged his mother back with his free arm as she swept him up in a tight hug. Feeling almost suffocated himself his hand tightened slightly around Nick's hand, all of this was a lot to take in. When she pulled back Daniel felt Nick's hand slip out of hand, frowning he glanced towards the other man to catch a glimpse of the look on his Father's face. Sighing he tried not to think about that too much as he spoke a little more with his parents.

 

It wasn't long before a doctor came out and called for them he stood close to his mother as the doctor spoke. Following his parents as they were lead to Chris' room only to notice as they reached the door that Nick was lagging behind him. Stopping outside of the room he turned to Nick. "You don't have to go in if you don't want to. You've already done more for me than I could ever ask of you." The last thing he wanted to do was force Nick to go with him to his brothers hospital room if he didn't want to.

 

Glancing into the room at his parents and brother he looked back to Nick making sure he didn't have his parents attention before leaning forward and pressing his lips to the other man's. "If you want, you can wait for me in the waiting room instead. Or... you can brave my dad. I saw the look he gave you, don't let him scare you away."

"You don't have to go in if you don't want to. You've already done more for me than I could ever ask of you."

 

Nick looked from the hall in the room at Chris who was laying there like he was sleeping and then back at Daniel. He smiled sighing, nodding in the end as an understanding of what the boy said. "Don't worry about me bunny. I'll be fine waiting for you outside in the parking lot" he said touching gently the boy's cheek before the other gave him a kiss, surprising him.

 

At the mention of his father he laughed. "Who? that old man? I'm not scared of him I'm ... just worried for you" he added kissing the boy's forehead. "See you outside when you're done" he added letting him go and heading back to his car. He needed a smoke urgently. He quite some time ago, but he knew he had some left in his car.

Daniel watched as Nick's gaze moved from the hallway to Chris' room. Despite that he wasn't expecting Nick to tell him that he would wait for him out in the parking lot. Wanting to object and saying that he didn't have to wait outside he stopped himself as Nick kissed his forehead. If the other man wanted to go wait outside who was he to stop him. So he nodded instead, though he noticed the way he started to react at the mention of his father making him laugh softly. "If that's what you want to call it then alright." Daniel replied a bit teasingly.

 

Watching as Nick left he turned and entered the room eyes moving over his brother. No matter what had been going on between them lately he couldn't help the sharp pang of guilt that had hit him. There was a small part of him that felt like it was somehow his fault even if he wasn't remotely sure how it could be. Daniel stayed for awhile, but when nothing seemed to change he knew he wouldn't be able to just stand around waiting anymore.

 

Turning to look at his parents he spoke his voice soft feeling like he was supposed to whisper with the stillness in the room. "I think I'm going to go. Call me if he wakes up." He wanted to know when his brother woke up, but he just couldn't stand around waiting in this tense silence. Hugging both of them and sparing one more glance towards Chris he turned to leave heading outside to find Nick.

His father wanted to protest but he let him go, not wanting to make a scene right here in a hospital. After Daniel left, they remained to make all the formalities that needed to be completed with the needed informations. Their mother sat on a chair right near the bed, holding her son's hand.

 

Nick was still outside, leaning on his car, smoking a cigarette. It was a relief to do it again. Calming his nerves was working. Long time since he manage to calm that fast but he had to be careful not to make a habit out of it.

"That's a bad habit you know." Daniel teased needing to get his mind off of his brother and the fact that he was still in the hospital. It was easy to tease Nick about something like that after all, and it was light. He in no way was going to tell Nick what he could and could not do even if he didn't want him smoking it was up to the other man. Leaning against the car not far from Nick he glanced around the parking lot sighing softly.

 

"Can we just get out of here? This place is really depressing." Daniel wasn't completely unaware of the fact that his father had wanted to say something when he left. But, this was his life and if he wanted to be around Nick or even with him it was ultimately his decision. He knew one person in his family didn't like Nick as it was, he didn't want to add another person and hoped it was just his father being overbearing and protective like a normal parent.

"That's a bad habit you know."

 

He turned his head just after he threw away the cigarette letting out the dense smoke. "I know but is good for the nerves sometimes" he said looking at the boy with concerned eyes. He could tell that the boy wasn't feeling too comfortable being here either but was trying to be brave. He could understand him on one side. Chris was his brother/lover and he was worried but on the other side he felt pain, like he was just used. He knew it what he was getting into, but he never thought that it would feel this way. He tried not to let Daniel know about his insecurities for as long as he could. Acting was a very good side of him.

 

"Can we just get out of here? This place is really depressing."

 

Nick stepped aside, opening the door for the other. "Let's go home" he added waiting for Daniel to get in and drive away from the hospital. The way 'home' sounded it felt like they were living together and that his house was their home. Nick wished that when they were dating at first but as the time passed by and things had changed, that dream never happened. But now ....

He got in the driver seat and turned on the radio to hear some music for the time being till their destination.

Daniel didn't speak at the reply, not really sure what he should say to that. Maybe to some people smoking was a great way to relieve stress and calm any nerves they may be having. It didn't mean that he liked it, but it was Nick's body and he felt like it wasn't his place to truly push the subject. If it was Chris he most certainly would, but things weren't the same between him and Nick as they were for him and his brother. As Nick moved to get into the car with the comment of them going home he felt himself perk up a little.

 

Despite knowing that he did not live with Nick, the idea of going home with him was appealing. There was an appeal about Nick in general much less returning to the other man's home with him. Slipping into the car he buckled up, once Nick had also got in the car he reached his hand over and gently took the older man's. Looking down at their hands as he traced his tumb lightly over the back of Nick's hand, his mind roving for a moment. "I'm sorry." The words escaped him as a small frown crossed his face, his voice was soft.

 

If he was being honest he never stopped feeling guilty for how their past relationship had ended. He had tried with Nick, they had dated for a little while but... the draw he had to his brother had just been stronger. Even now, being with Nick like this made him feel terrible, even if it also felt right. He was afraid that he would end up hurting Nick again and that was the last thing he ever wanted to do. The fact that his friend had stuck by him even after a failed relationship made it so he never wanted to take the chance of losing him again. But... there was that other part of him that wanted to be with Nick almost as much as he had wanted to be with Chris.

 

Something knew that a lot of his draw to his brother had been that it was forbidden, that it was something that was taboo and not really accepted. But it had also been more than that, he was physically attracted to his brother and loved a lot about Chris. However, other than that taboo feeling he got being with Chris his feelings for his brother and Nick were so similar that he truly didn't know who he loved more or if he even loved one more than the other. Daniel knew that was wrong, that he couldn't love two people, or at least that would be what everyone would tell him, but he truly felt like he did.

Nick looked confused at the boy when he apologized, not understanding what for. Or it could have been possible that his mask of control was not strong enough anymore and the other could see right through him. Which wasn't a really good thing. He didn't want to put Daniel in the position in which he had to chose between him and Chris because he knew already that he was gonna lose. So, why even trying. He knew from the very beginning, since he accepted to be his friend, what this was inflicted. Even with their flirty jokes and even now with them acting like a couple, deep down he knew that it wouldn't gonna last long.

 

Nick didn't say a word, letting the silence being filled with the music from the radio. He was just holding Daniels hand, letting him go for only a few seconds to change the car drive turation speed. Once they got home, he opened the door heading to the kitchen getting himself a beer from the fridge. "One some?" he asked pointing the bottle of beer in his hand to Daniel, trying to ignore everything that had happened and act like it was nothing.

Noticing the confused look he got Daniel sighed and glance away for a moment trying to think of how to word his next words. After a moment he spoke, "I'm sorry that things ended between us the way they did. I never meant to hurt you." It was true, and he felt terrible the more he thought about it. He was sure that even being friends with him must be painful for the older man. More than aware that it wasn't easy to be friends with someone that you had more than friendly feelings for. Hell, he had gone around flirting and teasing his brother for as long as he could remember until things became to much and snapped. Ending in their currently relationship, but he wasn't sure that the relationship he had with Chris was really what he wanted either.

 

It was all rather confusing as the silence spread beween them, and before long they were back at Nick's home. Slipping out of the car he followed him back inside ready to just spend the rest of his day with the other man. Glancing towards Nick when he was offered the beer he considered it for a moment. Daniel didn't like it when Chris drank, but after how things have been lately he could use one himself. "Thanks." he said taking it from Nick as he waited for the other man before they moved back towards the living room. Plopping himself down on the couch he spared Nick another glance. "Tell me the truth, Nick. Why do you put up with me if being aroundd me hurts you?" Daniel wanted the truth. He wasn't as blind to the pain that Nick felt while around him as his friend might think.

"Tell me the truth, Nick. Why do you put up with me if being around me hurts you?"

 

Just when he wanted to take a sip from his beer he heart Daniel ask the most obvious think. He swallowed than turned on the Tv not knowing sure where their conversation would lead or how it would end. After all , he didn't want to lose him. Not again.

"You already know the answer Daniel" he said looking at the beer in his own hand taking a deep breath. "I don't think i have to say it out loud" he added looking at the other.

Daniel frowned as Nick turned on the TV and spoke not truly answering his question. "That's not what I mean, and I wasn't trying to get you to say that." Daniel had not been trying to get Nick to tell him that he loved him again, he already knew the man's feelings for him. What he had truly wanted to know, was why? Why did Nick love him if he hurt him so much? Why love someone who hurts you just for being around them? He truly felt like he needed to know. It was almost as if he didn't believe that any of this was really real, that anyone would put up with things like this.

 

"I feel like you shouldn't love me. Not if being around me hurts you so much. But... I know you'll tell me it hurts because you love me." Daniel said suddenly turning to look at Nick better. "Be honest with me, Nick. Why do you love someone who just seems to hurt you?" Of course hurting Nick was never intentional, he never wanted to hurt him. It pained him to think that he had hurt Nick.
