. Japan; fictional town in Tokyo named Ota-ku (homage to this site; it means 大田区 "big fields"). Inspired by Noblesse and Magic: The Gathering. Requires no prior knowledge of the aforementioned titles because this is low fantasy.

The world knows magic exists, but mages are still a scorned extension of the human population. Some found it unfair, while the others simply feared its potential to do harm on other civilians.

In Tokyo, underneath its ignorantly cheerful façade, the government has endorsed for a confidential project. But what? The only thing mages from across the country know is that whatever they are doing, mages have been disappearing, with reports covered up to veil these incidents from public.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Gentleman's Club - a secret society of male mages - is slowly and surely dying from time and age. He needs to see the end of this nightmare and oppression in order to leave in peace. And so, he sends out his men to investigate any and all clues that could help them unlid the dirty deeds. In this club, there is only one code: "We are brothers."

Unfortunately, the researchers have caught wind of this and are turning the tables by hotly coming for them, eager to take down the Gentlemen's Club in one swoop and capture more specimens for themselves.

Magic can only be used by some "chosen ones". It manifests in the mage's adolescent years, and is separated by five types. When the magic first shows itself, a mark will appear on a random spot on the mage, the colour depending on their element. The five elements are:

White_{- heal, light, and wind.}
Blue_{- space (i.e. teleport, illusion), and water.}
Black_{- non-living (ghosts, objects), and shadow.}
Red_{- force, fire, and boost (i.e. speed, regeneration).}
Green_{- heal, plantlife, animal taming/communication.}

I'll say outright early on right now that the emoticon looks annoyed, and if you're annoyed for discussing on a convenient platform for everyone who will be writing together, you don't come off as someone I'd enjoy collaborating with. Sorry if I sound "harsh" or "bitchy", but I won't take on board anyone passive aggressive and ruin it for others who may be interested and aboard for this.

If it's a misunderstanding, I hope you put yourself in the shoes of those who may read your response and reflect how others would feel reading your post. Everyone who writes in a group has to do the extra effort of reading more than one post before they formulate a hook for the next person. In other words, everyone involved deserves a bit of understanding and compassion.

In my groggy and sleepy state, I misread "fired" as "dead" the first time. :Laughing:

We're all set to go, then. You can all begin to work on character designs, such as:

Magic-wise

1. What happened when they first discovered they are a mage? Was it in private? Was it scarring?

2. Assuming the revelation was a secret, how did their confidant(s) take it? Or did they tell anyone at all?

3. What type is it? (Blue? Green? Etc. Refer to my first post.) Was it fitting, ironic or a surprise?

4. Do they abuse it? Try to ignore it?

5. When they're grown up, do they still use it in their everyday life?

Character-wise

1. Their family background?

2. Their social circle?

3. Their interests, achievements and hobbies?

4. Their adulthood profession?

5. Their love life status? Example: Freshly single, or 20th century herbivore, or closeted gay who's dating a girl, etc. You're allowed to have NPCs.

- These are all prompts for your character creation. Bear in mind that a minority of the world KNOWS that magic exists but SCORNS mages. (Think Salem.) The others are blissfully unaware. Your character should have a "normal" life to sustain himself too. Like you know, a job and stuff.

Anyway, what I wanted to say is we can use this website's messaging tools since we all can't come up with a united decision. Also, I just remembered by then that our topic could come off as a form of advertising which is not allowed by YO's rules (yeah, we don't mean it.. but other people could think of it that way. )

White Magic comprises of healing others, the singing winds, and wielding light; this light spoken of is not the ordinary one we know of, but rather a ray from a higher plane itself. It is the mortal nemesis of Black Magic's foundation, and destroys indiscrimately - undead, dead, or living. Their healing is far more superior and effective than Green Magic or Red Magic, as the former heals little in comparison and the latter heals only themselves.

In the Gentlemen's Club, white mages are often employed as medics, where their healing talents shine. However, they have little opportunities to make use of their wind affinity. There are currently five white mages, with one leading them all.

Masters of teleportation, disguise and mirages, blue mages are also associated with water - an element that comes in all forms and is predominantly in motion. When a blue mage tunes to a water body, their mind and emotions become one with the liquid. If the water body is stagnant, the mage themselves would feel "unable to think or feel". If it is in gaseous form, they will feel equally "light and airy". Depending on their control, they can also move the water to their will. In spite of this, it takes a veteran to control even a tub of water.

Blue mages are uncommon, and even if they are present, they tend to be a headache for the Gentlemen's Club when they play for opposing parties. This is due to their "trickster" powers, making it difficult to face head-on. The Club currently has no blue mages.

Black Magic is often bundled together with the stigma of being "evil". Even so, black mages can interact with souls and manipulate non-living objects with their Dark Touch: that is, they can disfigure a physical material, or cast a mechanism on it. Their shadow affinity is their main form of offensive skill; with enough focus on a shadow, it can realise into a solid form. Many of them usually end up in businesses that deal with the dead.

The Gentlemen's Club has a few black mages, although each of them approach their own powers differently, largely due to the wide spectrum of attitude from people mages are surrounded by.

Usually the frontline fighters who are imbued with a strong constitution and sharp senses, they also have a regenerative instinct that works constantly in passive mode. However, it is exactly this regen that endangers red mages themselves - even when pushed to the brink, the regen trait doesn't stop consuming mana from the mage, which can lead to depletion of energy and utimately kill their own self.

The Gentleman's Club has only two red mages currently. Although not rare, many unwitting red mages tend to over-exert themselves before even encountering a potential mentor who can guide them on how to work with their own regen, and thus die.

Green Magic is known to be a backliner for mages, when its unique skill of taming nature is used. With an inherent aura that soothes animals that are mindful, they can recruit familiars to assist them. This aura also lets green mages "listen" to plants as if they were sentient voices. An adept green mage can also call forth plants to awake from their unmoving state to fight or protect the mage themselves. Their healing is weak and only applicable for minor injuries, and often disregarded as a result.

The Gentlemen's Club has one green mage currently.

[td]Ko have only vague memories of his father who disappeared when Ko was five years old. His father was from France and worked as a french teacher in the local university. Ko remembers blue eyes, much like his own, that sparkled with warmth and laughter and strong hands that would pick him up and spin him around.

After his fathers disappearance it was only Ko and his mother. His mother was a strong and stubborn woman that had married a foreigner against her parents wishes. It had created a rift in the family that never healed. His mother raised him on her own, struggling with work and motherhood and doing her best to make sure Ko got the best life possible.

Ko, never wanting to see his mother disappointed or as sad as she'd been when her husband disappeared, grew up much too quick. He did his best to be good in school, get good grades and be the best son he could be.

When his magical powers manifested he was already struggling with school, puberty, sexuallity and being a social oddball. It had happened when he'd hidden in a bathroom stall from his bullies. He'd been scared and frantic as the boys on the other side had threatened and goaded him as they struggled to get the stall door opened. He'd closed his eyes and wished that they wouldn't find him. When the boys finally threw the stall door open, and Ko's breath caught in his throat, the boys had stared into the stall, confused and confounded, since they couldn't see him sitting on the toilet. Somehow he'd made them 'not' see him. A whole hour passed before anyone could see him again.

After that the magic continued to manifest and fluctuate for half a year. He'd accidentally created illusions during a few weeks before realising what it was he could do. Making people see things that wasn't there, or 'not see' things that was there, or to hear or smell or feel whatever.

Luckily no one realised what had happened and he never told anyone about it. He would practise his magic on his own and explore it. Ko liked his magic, he liked the feel of it and the beautiful things he could create with it but he was also afraid of the world and the rest of the populations view on magic. He also didn't want his mother to hate him for his magic or be afraid of him. So he created an 'Everyday Ko' and 'Other Ko'.

Everyday Ko is the perfect son, the hard working medical student that dreams of becoming a doctor like his mother wants. Who has socially correct friends and who dates a pretty girl from his class.

Other Ko is the magic artist that wants to create beautiful illusions and art and push boundaries, be free and feel his magic sift through the air in a rainbow of color and impressions. This Ko shoplifts, skateboards and pulls magic pranks on unsuspecting people. Other Ko goes to night clubs and dances and get drunk enough to kiss guys on the dance floor.[/td]

I was thinking that maybe a fellow young mage heard of Other Ko (Visage) and is amused/impressed/feels challenged by him, and makes him his 'rival' (which complicates the dynamics when he found out that Ko's father was in the club as well, and so other older members treat him warmly by association, and for this he feels jealous of Ko). Is that okay?

Yes, absolutely. A rival relationship creates an interesting dynamic with great potential, depending on how one wants to play it, be it with tension, humour, competitiveness, jealousy, hate/love or a great big mix of everything.
