Neko-chan
Everyone here loves Yaoi, so I was just curious to see if there were any people who also like Bara as well. I know there a lot of girls who absolutely hate Bara. They'd rather get hit by a car then read it. Although I'm starting to get into it somewhat. If you do like it or hate it, please explain why. I don't know much about Bara. In fact there aren't really a lot of place you can go to to read it. There's yaoi in bookstores, but Bara-I've yet to see it. Or maybe I just didn't know what I was looking at. So I can't really post my opinion yet. I can't wait to see what you have to say about it. animegirl
Bara? I don't like bara!!!! I like yaoi because I like to see hot and cute guys... and of course, hot scenes between hot and cute guys, while in bara you only find hairy and fat and ugly guys with too big muscles.... like this one: I really don't feel like seeing this guy in a kissing or love scene at all!!!! I agree with you. I hate the hairiness in Bara. It makes me wanna cough up a hairball (fufu). Oh, and all those nasty sweaty guys screwing each other takes all the cuteness out of boy love. Scary pic by the way. :msn_red_fox

YLover
Oh my! I wasn't ever interested in Bara, so I didn't really know how they look like, but wow! Never ever would have I imagined them like this! :msn_red_fox 11 The first one is scary as hell and the second one looks exactly like a bear... To see some hot scenes between these 2?... NO, thank you! :7yoyo:

JenovaVII
I don't hate Bara per see but I really, really love my bishounen. From the very first time I read a bara manga it never once disgusted me. It just doesn't entertain me like yaoi does. Art wise it's simply not cut for me. If the plot captivates me I won't let it stop me, though. But as I do not go often in search for anything of the genre... As a matter of fact it's incredibly rare, I must have read bara a maximum of 5-6 times. Just for the kicks. Trying to find a good story in the middle of all that muscle and hair and beards. :8yoyo31: And I ended up not finding anything remotely similar to what I went in search off. So I don't even give myself the trouble anymore. It's not worth it, in my opinion. Here are some artists that I like, whose characters are buffer than they usually are in yaoi and, in that aspect, are a little bit bara'ish (?), they however keep their bishounen'ess (?) intact: Akira Norikazu and Zaria. I absolutely worship them. Just the art is enough to make you stare and trace each line with your eyes. The stories are good too. :msn_red_fox 15
Justme
Yeah, these images that JenovaVII posted are really hot (but they look more yaoi than bara), but those posted before were .......... :5yoyo32: So, I'll definitely choose yaoi over bara anytime :hamtaro-005 (6):

Angel0fS!n
Bara aka "Mens' Love" (メンズラブ menzu rabu) or ML, is a Japanese jargon term for a genre of art and fictional media that focuses on male same-sex love and desire, usually created by and for gay men. The bara genre began in the 1960s with fetish magazines featuring gay art and content. Besides bara manga, also called gei comi (ゲイ コミ?, "gay comics"), and illustration, a number of bara erotic games exist, as well as novels and memoirs. Bara is mostly a Japanese phenomenon, with limited western exposure through manga scanlations and online homoerotic art communities. While bara faces difficulties finding western publishers, it has been described as "the next big porn wave coming out of Japan. Some of Bara artist are Gengoroh Tagame, Takeshi Matsu, Inaki Matsumoto, and Matsuzaki Tsukasa. The rise of bara anthologies has promoted longer, serialized stories, but the most common story type is still the single-chapter one-shot. Bara manga usually has muscular men as the lead gay characters, but characters may vary in body type (although they do not approach the feminine litheness common in yaoi). Although some stories contain less idealized and more realistic depictions of the actual life of gay men (gay pride parades, gay marriage issues, "coming out", realistically played out sex etc.) Bara is more true to actual gay male relationships, and not the heterosexual-esque relationships between the masculine seme and feminine uke types that are most common in romantic fantasy in women's yaoi manga. In comparison to yaoi, gay men's manga is unlikely to contain scenes of "uncontrollable weeping or long introspective pauses", and more likely to show characters who are "hairy, very muscular, or have a few excess pounds". Compared to gay men's manga, yaoi is "more careful to build up a strong sense of character" before sex scenes occur. - Wikipedia My Opinion: I tried to read Bara and i failed to finish it. I have nothing against it, but it seems that i enjoy yaoi more. Yaoi is something i can't live without it-->my daily dose of drug.:hamtaro-005 (6):
True Blue
Nope, I like living in my fantasy world were only cute guys *coughYanagishitaTomocough* are ukes. XD Body hair is gross, unless it is like under control. I don't like the whole 'overweight' thing because I personally am and it is a touchy subject with me. And over muscled guys are scary like when I watched Baki the Grappler, I had nightmares ( even the females were buff. x.x But the Dir en grey song at the beginning was totally worth it) For me reading bara is like reading bear-on-bear action. D: Just not my cup of tea.

LadyXDevil
Okay a brief synopsis... :Red_fox6: Gachi muchi Recently, a subgenre of BL has been introduced in Japan, so-called "muscley-chubby BL" or gachi muchi (from gacchiri (がっちり muscular?) and muchimuchi (ムチムチ chubby?)) which offers more masculine body types and is more likely to have gay male authors and artists. Although still marketed primarily to women, it is also thought to attract a large crossover gay male audience.Although this type of material has also been referred to as "bara" among English-speaking fans. What are your thoughts?? :Red_fox3::Red_fox3::Red_fox3::Red_fox3::Red_fox3::Red_fox3::Red_fox3::Red_fox3:
yojichan
For as long as the stories are really good then I won't mind checking it out. It will take some getting used to at first, I'm sure. But what matters for me the most is that it has a good story to back it all up. Although personally I like chubby ones. I like squishy meaty parts. I like huggable types. I love hugging them and being hugged by them. I love stories where a skinny guy falls for a chubby guy. So cute! I'm not really into muscled types even in real life. I like looking but I don't really go crazy about them. I like lean and mean yet strong. Chubby yet strong.

mangamaani
I haven't even tried 'cause I know if I start to read it I'll stop after the first H scene. But I don't like the cute type either 'cause they're annoying.(don't mean to insult anyone's likings) I like more the tall, handsome, not too girly or muscular type.:leaf20: And if possible there can be some fighting scenes.:8yoyo13:
Ginger
I've only seen a few Bara - not so much for me this kind of hairy men thing But I don't hate it - it's just not as exciting as Yaoi! On the other hand I do like some of the manga that I've seen with yakuza - big broad shouldered guys with tattoos. Crimson Snow for instance or Rabbit Man,Tiger Man. Klaus in Maiden Rose is a really big guy and i find him so hot LOL :hamtaro-005 (5):
