Name: Hiro Midori

Age: 30

Hair: Short Dark Brown

Eyes: Brown, hint of maroon in certain light

Height: 5’8”

Weight: 165 lbs

A well-respected young detective on the force. He recently experienced tragedy making him question his career and abilities to those that trust and depend on him. He’s also developed a bitter feeling towards the society he’s meant to serve and protect feeling that the means he’s allowed may not be enough.

Hiro stared blankly at the paperwork in front of him. The pencil between his fingers tapped markings to the page on top, but nothing that could be defined as language let alone the necessary language to ever constitute completion. He’d been reduced to paperwork for the last month due to the rise in crimes, the department wanting every officer out with at least a partner, and well, that was Hiro’s obstacle right now. His partner was laying up in the hospital barely swinging in and out of consciousness the last couple of days. He’s where are the concerns had started.

Hiro leaned back, folding his arms, a sour look coming over his face. He could have gone without the reminder of his failings. What good was this new buddy system in the force if he’d been there and it didn’t make a difference for his partner. He saw the pity in people’s eyes around the department, yet none of them would offer to take him as a partner now. People tried to tell him that he was great, that his partner thought of him like a brother, no one was more trusted to watch an officers back, and that it was a routine investigation, what happened couldn’t have been seen coming. None of it made him feel better, some of it made him feel shittier. He was usually better than that night; he made calls, caught guys, and prevented situations all the time, more than most. But when he was needed the most, things became a blur and in the end he didn’t even have to face the real consequences.

In any case, the Chief had assured him that he’d be back on the streets doing what he did best, not desk duty, with a new transfer as his partner. The great man barely holding on with machines performing most of his bodily functions was going to be retired by the department no matter what and a guy had been interested in transferring over for a couple of months. He wondered if the guy had any idea the screw up that he was going to be set with and the escalation within the city he’d have to handle.

“Hey Midori, since you’re not doing any good on that paperwork anyway, I have someone to introduce you to,” came the Chief’s voice, startling him to attention. His cheeks became rosy with shame at the boss noticing how little he was doing. He really was becoming such a screw up. Maybe having to lead a new person around for a bit would help him find his old rhythm, his old purpose. He stood, but his eyes were still downcast. He couldn't let another partner down like that, but he had to shake it off and be professional. He couldn't let some new guy doubt him as a partner before they even started either, not if he wanted to correct things.

Name: Shiro Hanafudo

Age: 32

Hair: Short black hair

Eyes: Emerlad green, sometimes a darker shade

Height: 5' 7

Weight: 160 lbs

Shiro sighed as he still waited to be transferred from his current position to another department. He put in his paperwork and needed more...something. All he knew was that he wanted out of where he was. Nothing was intriguing or interesting him...Or perhaps everyone was scarred by him? He didn't care anymore, once he was out he hoped for something much different.

"Hey Shiro, the transfer went through. Pack your things and get over there to that department today" He was told by someone in the office. It was about time! He got everything he needed and went to go to this new department. As far as he knew, he might be working with someone or something along those lines. This cop better not be some scrub or softy for the law... At least be tolerable.

He was told to wait by the Chief, that he would soon be introducing him to his new partner. Soon, he heard the chief say he had someone to introduce him too, assuming the Chief was talking to who was supposed to be his new partner. He waited and saw this guy who looked like he had seen better days but a bit soft in the face. Hmm..Probably soft.

Hiro walked in and noted a man, probably about his age, height, give or take an inch, black hair and green eyes. He didn't have the stance of a cop, too casual and cocky. He looked smug right off the top, which created a sour taste in Hiro's mouth. He didn't need some cocky guy stepping on his toes, urging him to slip up. He'd be the senior officer for their assignments and he needed someone cooperative if nothing else at least. Cocky guys usually came with trouble, of numerous types.

"Officer Midori," he stuck out his hand to the other man, keeping his face straight and posture firm. "Hiro Midori. Pleasure meeting you." Even closer to the man he looked him over head to toe. He couldn't recall ever seeing the man around before, not that he took much notice other than those he directly worked with or answered to.

He had to admit, the guy seemed in good shape, not the bulk of many other officers over-compensating. Hiro always noted he was similar, a leaner build that most people underestimated. He wouldn't underestimate this guy, though he'd like to not give him too much credit too soon either.

"Officer Hanafudo. Shirt Hanafudo" Shiro said plain and simple, taking the others hand in his to shake it. It looked like this guy would be his partner. Looked like one of those serious types and hoped his new job would not be a complete drag. Could be worse, not bulky at least and thought they were high and mighty. But who knows what pleasant surprises he will probably be in for with this guy. "So what first..?" He shrugged, not sure how to interact with this guy.

He smirked. The guy seemed a little stiff, easier that than a cocky goof. "First, lets order your badge and firearm. You'll have to take a temp badge for the first week or so, and I'm responsible for any weapon you carry until one is assigned to you." He paused looking into those green orbs, the other's eyes. They gleamed a little mischievous to him. Maybe even a little dangerous. "We'll get a brief on any recent leads to keep an eye on while we patrol. I can tell you now theres a lot of drug activity that's been stirred up lately."

Hiro noted that the other man was quiet, almost brooding. Newer officers usually came in eager or overly aggressive. Then again, Officer Hanafudo was a transfer and had probably worked out all that reckless energy. Though Hiro knew recklessness could come in other forms. He signaled the other man to follow him down the hall.

They stopped at the armory where Hiro signed in and got some gear handed to him; two handgun cases and a printed card with a badge code. "Here." He unceremoniously handed things to Shiro, before leading him towards a conference room for their briefing, only a few others there waiting on the Chief.

"So... what brings you here? I mean, we needed someone, but why were you transfered?" Hiro thought about his former partner. "It can get rough here, I hope people were upfront about that. Its not rare to have officers injured in our department, especially if someone's not paying attention." He was stern in his words, but moreso to himself.

"Simple enough" Shiro said with a small shrug as the other explained some basic stuff about waiting for his badge. This was all your basic run of the mill explanations but he still listened anyway. You had to do a lot of basic tutorial stuff first to get to the good part. At least now he can do some more dangerous stuff in this department, really get his blood pumping! It always helped to get more training in this department but he thought he would do fine regardless.

Shiro followed the other down the hall, looking through the armory. Some good stuff in here, no armory he couldn't handle. He took the badge and cases from the other, not caring about the others stand offish attitude. He was not looking to be buddy buddy anyway with anyone in particular anyway. Now was the time to focus..

"I like the rough I suppose, sense of danger and making sure you are always on your guard. Get people off the streets kind of deal, I don't know.." Shiro shrugged, never one for words when explaining how he felt about things. "I could handle an injury or two but I would rather like to avoid it" He shrugged again.

Hiro noted that the guy had all but avoided really talking to him or answering his lighter questioned about joining the team. He tried to not let his astonishment at the other's words and his frustration of his own words being brushed over show. There was something with this guy that made him suddenly feel uneasy. "Yeah, I think we all try to avoid getting needlessly hurt, but have to know how to take it all the same." An almost questioning tone fell over his words. "Key is the guy working with you has to want the same for you, not just himself."

Before he could delve into anything further the Chief entered with a small stack of files. Hiro took a seat not too far from Shiro, but all the more leery of the guy's cold demeanor. Suddenly he felt punished, like this guy was here to discipline him for his previous neglect. A partner that would let things get more than a little rough with him considering how poorly he'd held up his half with his last partner. The idea made him run a little red in the face with thoughts.

Before he could even let those thoughts go any further the Chief started his briefing, discussing a few recent murders that appeared to have a pattern to them. Some of the other officer's noticiably stiffened. It was noted that either a crime group was giving up on covering up their murders and getting very particular on how they were carried out, or this was starting to look like a serial killer. It was no wonder that the others stiffened and fell exceptionally quiet as serial killers made a game out of killing, and while their victims might say something about them it was often too vague or personal a detail to see right away. When all victims are brunette women around college age for instance, there was too much of the population to really target and protect potential victims without trying to plant one. That or there was a pattern to their killing, but that too took more victims to fully suss out.

The Chief handed out copies of certain information, most of the officers sticking to certain pages and only skimming it over with disgust. But Hiro looked over to notice that his knew partner seemed rather interested with the file set in front of him.

"I guess you are right about that.." Shiro said with a simple nod, not a man of many words. He was usually straight to the point with his words and work was especially the case. To not skirt around the issue and just get right into his work..that was his ideal. And with this guy, he knew nothing about him or what type of guy he was. He could be a total softy or someone who would be all up his ass trying to make sure he did his job a certain way. Hopefully this would go by without any issues..

It seemed he would not be able to think about that guy further as the Chief soon arrived for the briefing. He started to discuss cases that may allude to a pattern. There was a series of cases that all seemed very particular or at least was the work of a serial killer. A serial killer? Now this was turning out to be a very interesting first day...

Now...what was their link? What was the connection, if any to all of these victims? A string of murders that all had some connection or was the killer particular about his victims or his methods? This was something that he had to figure out...He did love a good mystery! The initial link seemed to be all brunettes around college age, an obvious first glance type of look just seeing all of the murders as of late. Was there anything else in common? Was the killer out to get brunettes for a particular reason?

The Chief started to hand out files and he started scanning each page intently. What was their connection? He kept wondering to himself as he looked through the details. There must be some significance to someone seeking out one particular group of people as victims. There was some agenda...what was it? Shiro was busy looking over the files to notice the eyes staring at him in his focused gaze of the files.
