Hittori Ren or Robot No. 221NQD worked in a junkie shop as a store-room assistant and appeared to muted. It was said that the owner of the shop bought him long ago, but the line 221 was flawed and all robots lacked vocal chord chips. So did Hittori. But the owner managed to teach him sign language.

Recently, Hittori's software and hardware began to malfunction, he began to see strange images of himself... as a human. As he brought the issue up with his owner, he seemed frantic and concerned too much over such simple malfunction. There had been times that his owner fixed him before, how come this time was different. His owner only replied "I'll look into it. Don't worry about it. " but never have he talked about it again. The air smelt fishy and Hittori was determined to find out what was going on with him and why his owner was hiding it.

Aoi Misuki a twenty-six year old assassin for hire, one of the gifted children of the world. Living under the roof of his grandfather the male had no personality in the eyes of others just a silent being who followed orders. His grandfather took him in after his parent's questionable deaths. Wanting his grandson to be able to take care of himself he passed on his ways before moving on years later. Besides working jobs given to him Aoi had a knack for tinkering with mechanics. Taking things apart and putting them back together again loving the way tool fit so smug in his hands that messing with new tech became an excitement to him. So hearing about the makings of cyborgs gives him an itch down to his finger tips. Wanting to take a living person apart and seeing how they work isn't wrong is it?

-----------------------------------------

The clock ticked annoyingly in the quiet room. Once in a while there would be a clink-clank of someone searching through a pile of mechanical parts, or an old rotating chair screeching. The day nearly came to an end and no customer showed up, the old man sitting on the screeching chair sighed and whined how bad the economic was getting. Hittori remained silence and began to clean up whatever was out of place, preparing to close the shop.

Suddenly, a wave of hot, dampened air gushed through the crack of the door. It's a sign of a coming rain. Hittori has a censor system on his skin to notice such small detail. He turned to his master, telling him to take an early leave before it rained. The old man got up from his screeching chair, nodded and took his bag and left. Before leaving, Hittori asked him once more about his memory card malfunction but the old man said he'd look into it for the 6th time in 3 months.

Once the old man left, Hittori got back to sweeping and cleaning the shop before preparing to charge himself. Unbeknownst to him, that wind earlier, bring something far more unpredictable.

He had been hired by some unknown source to recover something and bring it to the drop off. Aoi Mitsuki was awaiting his target's info so to pass the time he decided to do a little shopping for some cyborg parts. Just a hobby he was mildly obsessed with when he had no jobs to complete he would distract himself by making things out of spare parts he has ether found or brought. The city he was summoned too hand many stores that caught his attention so he would find himself wondering for hours. Under the shadow of his hood he glanced around to find one more shop to hit up before heading back to his hotel. But once again he got distracted by the many cyborgs roaming the streets, he was not impressed they were simple models with no big features so he quickly lost interest. Turning a corner he moved to the side to let an older man pass and then went down the street he came from, he nearly passed a junk shop when he felt a small jolt run up the nape of his neck. Moving backwards he peered into the still open shop and spotted someone sweeping the floor his eyes moved all over the slim body but the glass warped his vision he would have to get a closer look. Placing his hand on the door Aoi opened it and stepped inside.

Hittori was sweeping the floor, his back facing the door. He forgot to close so when it slid wide-opened, the hot air came gushing in. He turned around to see a mysterious man, cloaked and hooded coming into the shop. The man dressed and looked menacing, he actually frightened Hittori in a strange way. He was about to turn the other down saying that the shop has closed and maybe he should come back tomorrow. But consider that the shop has been quite empty these couple of days, maybe he could try to sell something to help his master with all he could. He rested the broom on the table nearby, gathered all the dust and trashed he was sweeping. He gathered all his courage and approached the man, he put up a smiled and bowed to greet him, being muted, he signed with his hands "What would you like to buy, sir?", waiting for a bit before signing again "We have a variety of spare parts here, you can find almost everything in this shop".

Looking the male over Aoi's eyes focused on the arms and face of the male that was cleaning. He was a cyborg that was not hard to see, but he was quite interesting his robotic limb were so clean and slick unlike the bulky cyborg he sees in this city. He couldn't help but give the male the once over as he watched him silently waiting for him to say something, but instead he was given hand signs instead, so he was one of the many cyborgs that could not speak without a voice chip. His eyes grew with interest, reading hand signs was not a problem to the male, the problem lied in his itchy hand that wanted to fix this incomplete little cyborg. Holding himself back Aoi gave a soft smile and pulled back his hood as it seemed that he was scaring the small male. Finally tearing his eyes away he gave a good look around the shop, there were some things that he already had, but a few items caught his fancy.

"I do see some items I would like to purchase, but what I am interested in right now is you, are you bound to this shop, by an owner?" Aoi spoke and walked at the same time taking the items he had his eyes one, not looking back at the other as he did not want to intimidate the boy.

Hittori kept a close eyes on the mysterious male even though he was rather scared of him. Finally he pulled down his hood and looked away. The male had dark hair, his face seemed sharp and elegant, apparently not from around here. He became less menacing and relaxed, though there was still something telling him that this man was ill news. But nonetheless he signed "Please have a look of what you are interested in and would like to purchase." A wind blew his hair annoyingly in front of his eyes, he delicately lifted them out of the way after he signed.

He took a step back when he heard the other said he was interested in him. Why was he interested in Hittori? He was at least 200 year-old. He was one of the earliest robot built, hence the flaw of his vocal chord. Noone liked him, even his fellow robots, they dissed him for being old and out of date. His artificial brows furrowed and looked at the male as he picked up some item. But he nodded and signed to answer anyway "Yes I am bound to this shop by my master." .

Everything was getting strange for him, so he tried to break from the conversation surrounding himself, he signed "I can see you're interested in the sinew cables. Those are artificial sinews made from one of the finest cables, allowing your robot to run smoother than humans themselves"

"I see." His eyes were the only thing to look back at the male as he read the signs and saw the discomfort he gave to him, sighing Aoi knew he should have kept that to himself, but he just couldn't help him himself. More than tinkering with ramdom parts and creating something new, more that studying a book he has never read before about robotics he loved the idea of taking people who were only half human apart and putting them back together again, creating life. Did the gods find it fun to make something unless into something new? Blinking out of his thoughts Aoi looked at the item he was about to purchase.

"Yes I know all about these cables, I am in luck to find these they are hard to come by.....tell me why has your master not given you an upgrade, can he not afford it?" He wanted to slap himself his grandfather would roll in his grave from the rudeness that was coming out of his mouth right now, be he could not help being blunt and speaking what was in his mind.

Hittori's jet black eyes gazed at the other as he kindly paid attention to his being, though rather curiously frightening. He asked Hittori something that was rather rude. He could see from the other's eyes that he regretted asking it straight away. But he smiled in reassurance that it was not much of a deal.

He signed again "I am one of the oldest model. It dated back over 200 years. Everything related to the line 221NQD are lost and forgotten. It is almost impossible to find it. My master had to make most of them himself. Now he has aged quite greatly that he no longer possesses any mastery he's got, only knowledge."

As they were talking, the rain began to fall. He looked outside when droplets of water tapped against the door, he quickly came over to shut it before it dirty the shop. Maybe this male will stay longer that he should, since he noticed he did not bring any umbrella with him. Hittori sighed. He tried to get back to selling his master's products.

"So would you like to purchase it? We can sell you quite cheaply compare to other shop. He walked to behind the counter. The barrier between him and the other secured him a bit.

His eyes widened, so this man was one of the older models he had read about, he knew that they were pretty rare to find since people upgraded. But to have something this old in front of him the itchiness in his fingers turned into a raging fire. No wonder this male looked so different, he was glad for this eyes to have spotted him, no wonder he was so sleek and different. In Aoi's eyes this male was quite beautiful, so much that he wanted to take him apart and play with him, he wanted to see what his two hundred year old heart looked like, but he pull his emotions down as he walked over to the counter and placed them down.

"Well are you a true gem, I am honored to be in your presence, please pardon my rudeness from early as you might pick up I am a mechanic or maybe a tinkerer is more appropriate." Aoi took out his wallet and decided to pay the full amount for his products instead of getting the discount, as a sign of apology for his rude behavior. The rain would not bother him, because he would make an effort to come back to this shop in the morning no matter what the weather looked like, he also wouldn't mind staying in this city a little longer if it meant seeing this man again.

The other seemed shocked. It was not the first time he has seen such expression on human when he told him about his line of production and his sheer age. But what differed him from the rest was that he did not make fun out of him. Instead he treated him with utmost respect. He reached the countered and placed the item he picked down. He spoke with much more care and even his tone changed. He wanted to pay the full amount.

"Thank you so much for your compliment. And I have noticed your fascination in spare parts." he signed before clicking over the machine to check. "That would be 5 dollars. Since this is a junk shop, everything is cheaper." he smiled, taking the other's money and gave back his change.

The other seemed like he'd leave without an umbrella. He looked around for an umbrella. There must have been some around. He spotted a translucent one and passed it to the other "Please take this. You don't have to return it" he signed before he left.

Once his customer left, he finished sweeping the floor, closed and locked the door before going to charge himself and shut down after a boring day.

---------------------------------------

The next morning, the sky was clear and sunny, his master came in, seeing Hittori already started up and everything was cleanly swept and prepared. He bragged with his master about one customer he sold the spare parts. The old man patted the robot's head before getting on his usual screechy chair, waiting for clients.

In the mean time, Hittori went out to collect more spare parts for his master. He strolled down the street and took a turn to the right, to his usual shop to check for news update and what was in demand. Once in a while, he'd try to walk pass some houses to advertise his junk shop and offered some items. The usual.

Even though he wanted to stay a little longer he would not keep the other up since older models needed to charge ever so often. On the inside he pouted like a child but the outside showed nothing as he placed his hood back on and was about to leave with another addiction to his spare parts binge. His eyes caught the signs of his love of spare parts and the cost still being way less than the cables were worth, but he would not push to give the other more money for he did not want to disrespect him. When the umbrella was offered to him he gracefully accepted in and before he left he bowed to the other.

"Thank you for your kindness, I hope to see you again." And with that Aoi left the shop and headed for the hotel he resided in. When making his way though the lobby the clerk had a package for him. It must have been his target he was hired to retrieve. Once he was behind the closed doors of his room and his parts and umbrella was sat by the door he sat in a chair and opened the package, there were only two things inside the envolpe, a picture of the target and the location and time of the drop off area. Aoi looked at the location first so they were giving him four days to get this job done. Plus the drop off was in some remote place, that would be fine with him, what he was most interested in was the picture of his tarket, when he looked at it his eyes widened in shock.

"Well well, it looks like I really will get to see you again." His lips curled up into a wicked smirk.

Morning

When day came Aoi was already up and out trying to remember his way back to the junk shop, and he was glad to find it with no problem, but he was disappoint rather quickly when he entered and met witgh someone different. An older man from the looks of it, was he the owner of this place if so the Aoi would be in luck.

"Good morning, excuse me for asking but are you the owner of this shop?"

The old man was reading newspaper when the customer of yesterday entered the shop. He studied him shortly and answered to his question "Yes I am. What would you like to buy, young man? You seem too young to be interested in this old man hobby of tinkering, no?" He spoke with interest.

That exact moment when the old man was conversing with the the customer. Hittori returned to see the familiar figure. He realised him straight away. In Hittori processor, he thought the other returned to give him back the umbrella he gave. Maybe he was not as menacing as he looked. He smiled and bowed to the man. He signed to his master that it was the customer from yesterday.

"Oooh. That was you? Thank you for purchasing at our shop. I can assist you with whatever you seek.", while Hittori stood right behind his master in a respectful manner, like a child behind his grandfather.

It sort of hurt hearing an old man calling his hobby that of which an old man would do, but he guessed he wasn't that far off. He was just about to answer when his object of work and endearment walked into the shop. Well now that all the pieces had been assembled he began to speak.

"You are very welcome and you are right to know that I am here again to purchase something, but I needed the owner of the shop to be here in order for me to ask for a very precious item." This time Aoi did not remove his hood as he lifted his finger and pointed toward the cute cyborg next to the grandpa figure.

"I would like to purchase this aged beauty if you please." He gave a warm smiled beneath the shadow of his hood, but the meaning behind that smile was hidden.

A string of emotion ran through the old man and a lot of thought ran through Hittori's processor. Hittori has been with his master for 52 years. Though he was a robot, he seemed to have emotion chip, and appeared to be attached to the old man. He stepped closer to his master and clutched onto his hand, like a puppy. Though he knew he had no say if his master sold him, he wished not to be sold. The old man looked at him with loving fatherly eyes before looking back at the male, smiling and kindly refused the offer.

"Dear me, boy. This robot is 200 years old. He is priceless to this old man. You don't part an old man from his walking stick, do you? I'll have to decline your kind offer. Though maybe in the next town you'll have some luck there, they have quite some vintage robots"

His mood went from sickly sweet to sour when the answer of no came to his ears, his hand moved to his hip as he stared down at the two.

"I would if I gave that old man the money to buy a new walking stick, and you are right he is priceless, so tell me when you die do you plan on taking him with you to your grave? Do you wish for him to be stuck in this shop forever? And from what I can see he is not up to code with maintenance. Even an old cyborg such as this beauty can get an update and broken parts fixed in the hands of a young mechanic who is knowledgeable with older cyborg and the latest tech." His poisonous words stopped when he realized his true nature emerging he composed himself and sighed turning away from the two.

"I will not accept this answer, I will be back to ask again, but-" Aoi hurried to hold his tongue he would not mess this up and end up having the other male hate and shun him he was also having a battle in his head to not kill this sweet old man and take the boy, plus the cyborg was very attached to this old guy, but he didn't have time for the old man to kick the bucket.

The young man who seemed humble and respectful spitted out venomous words when he was turned down from the old man. Much of it did not affect the old man except for "taking him to your grave" part. It was true that he has come to that age where he could hardly see anymore without his glasses. For Hittori to be stuck in a rut and with him no longer capable of upgrading Hittori once in a while like he used to. Maybe this young boy can take care of Hittori. Though it'd break his heart, it was for the good of Hittori.

He called out to the young man before he left the shop. "Only if you promise to take care of him."

A shock ran through Hittori, he looked at his 'father' desperately but could not call out for him, nor did he have tears to shed. But he felt abandon and lost. He signed "No, master. Please, no"

The old man ran his hand through the robot's hair to fix it a bit "Hittori, he is right. I don't think I'll live much longer, keeping you here will only rust you up. Maybe this young man can fix your memory malfunction that you told me"

Aoi froze when hearing those soft words from the old man he was just piling up the guilt in him for spitting out those words. Not only that but did Aoi really want to give up this male? Now that this sweet old man was leaving Hittori to him it would be a stab in the back to just hand him over to this weird job. They must have only left the photo and info so that Aoi would not ask questions as to why they wanted this old model. Was it the way he was made, was there something inside of him that the other models didn't have? There was one thing that Aoi knew and that was he was not going to let this man be destroyed for any reason.

"I give you my word I will protect him, and I apologize for my childish outburst it really is unlike me." Aoi turned back around pulling his hood down and looking into the eyes of the elder man bowing his head as he apologized.

The mysterious male apologized for his action, revealing his face. The old man only nodded. Now he was filled with sorrow, having to let go of his 'child'. He went off for a few second to get his charger and whatever spare parts he saved just for Hittori and handed it to the young man. He then picked up a clean cloth to clean and fixed Hittori's outfit and hair for the last time, like when he first found him 50 years ago.

Hittori felt a surge of electrical shock through his body as though he was real human, and he could cry if he had tear glans. He just stood there and let his 'father' cleaned him. He hugged him tight all of the sudden. The warmth of the old man heated his cold metal body. The old man gently patted him in the back and smiled. "You'll have a better upgrade and good life with this young man. Thank you for being in my life, child."

Then the old man gently led Hittori to the young man and handed him Hittori. "Take him back once in a while, will you?" Hittori could only obey. He followed his master and went to the young taller man and stood next to him, looking back at the shop he was bounded for a long time and his master before leaving with his new master.

"Of course I will how can I keep a child from visiting his own home?" Aoi gave a gentle smile toward the old man, it was a truly sad moment as he watched the two. But as soon as he lead the other toward him he felt a spark go up his spine, was the other truly his now? He had to form a plan, this would not be rushed he thought to himself as he took the hand of his new cyborg, before he left he placed a good sum of money on the table, bowed once more to the old man and left with Hittori before the old man had time to refuse the money. For a bit they walked in silence and Aoi made sure to walk in a slow pace since he was taller than the other and he knew even if he was a cyborg they still had emotions and the other might be sad of being sold to someone.

"I will keep my word, I'll let you visit the old man." He finally broke the silence with that statement before going quiet again. His legs carrying him back to the hotel he resided in.

The other took him out of the shop after he had settled some money for his former master. He followed the old winding road that he used to walk to and fro everyday. He probably would not see it anytime soon though the other said he would take him back. Since the concept of time for Hittori was very poor. He looked back to his old home before it faded away and he could no longer see it from afar.

His hand was held by his new master and taken to his new place. Hittori knew not where. He signed "Thank you" when he said he would take him back to his old master for a visit. It could be true but Hittori was in no mind for it.

They got to a hotel that Hittori had never been before, it looked posh and dark. He looked around and felt a strange sense of uneasy and disquiet. He did not know where to stand or to sit. He knew little to nothing about his new master. So he just stood by the door, looking around at the room while his new master had settled in. He only signed "Where will I sleep tonight, master?"

"Master is so old fashion, my name is Misuki Aoi you may call me Misuki." Aoi started to relax by taking off his hood and thick leather guard so that nothing was left but a plain dark gray shirt that fit snug against his toned body. As he went over to his bags of parts and tools he looked through them and picked out a small flashlight. Making sure it worked first he walked over to the shy looking male and gently lifted his head.

"Alright let's start with a simple maintenance check the old man said there were some things wrong with you? And I can make you a voice chip if you want to speak. You don't have to use the voice but it would be best in case we ever get separated or something." His touches were soft yet firm as he made the other open his mouth so that he could shine the light down his throat. He could feel the excitement bubbling in his chest, he couldn't wait to see inside the male.

Hittori quickly bowed in an apologetic manner when the other told him to call him by name, instead of standings. He tip-toed to see what his new owner was doing. He got a flashlight and said he would have a maintenance check on him. He lifted his head and opened his mouth for the other to look into him. Not only he lacks a chip, he also had his chip socket removed, it was very hard to make out what kind of socket did he had and what electric cable did he used before he fell to the hand of his former master. It was very unlikely that this guy would be able to fix his voice so he did not hang much hope on it. Though when discussed about his memory issue, he quickly signed to answer the other. "I have been having strange images lately during my charging at night, images like... myself as human. It could not possibly be ... d... dreams, could it? Robots cannot dream, right? Master? I mean... Misuki". He stood uncomfortably and sometimes stepped back a bit. He was not comfortable enough yet to be touched by the other so casually.

Looking down at the throat he could tell what was going on, but he would need to get a camera down this throat to see better inside the other's mouth. Glancing down at the signs he looked into the other's eyes, so something was up with his memories, he would be able to look into the soon, but there was one thing he wanted to get out of the way first.

"You are not a robot which is a machine a cold lifeless piece of metal, you are a cyborg a person whose physical abilities are extended beyond normal human limitations by mechanical elements built into the body." Aoi turned around and went through another bag full of strange wears and pulled out a thin wire with a light on the end.

"Please keep your mouth open for me I'm going to take some photos of your throat." He turned back around and continued to check the male out slipping the thin wire into his mouth, it moved around to take pictures of the throat and when it was done Aoi pulled it out and hooked it up to a computer so that it could download the pictures. While that was going on Aoi pulled out something else and began to set it up in the room part by part.

"We can take a look at those dream of your and try to fix up that memory of your, you were once human there are still some aspects of it so never call yourself a robot ever again, you are so much more than that." Aoi moved about as he spoke his fingers always moving.

Cyborg? Hittori never thought himself as cyborg. He could hardly feel himself human or had any cognition of his past. His 'father' also never mentioned any of this. Thus he assumed himself to be completely robotic. But his new master seemed to be very stern and serious about his beings. Hittori decided to question his new master. "According to my information, 200 years ago, cyborgs were illegal due to some theory that humans were kidnapped for experiment conduction. However, that theory was debunked so that would make me a robot, not cyborg."

He opened his mouth like his master asked him to and let him insert a wire camera inside his throat. He could hardly feel anything pressing against it. He could hardly feel his gag reflex. It was not the first time Hittori did this, his master used to check his throat like this young man. And he closed his mouth when it was done.

He followed his master every step, to his computer then to his bag where he got all his tools out. It looked somewhat scary to see all those screws and nails that requires to fix his body. He somehow felt the need of backing out. He tapped on his master's shoulder and signed "It is okay, master... I mean... Misuki. I feel fine. My system isn't malfunctioning beside my memories."

"The media can't be trusted because it can easily be manipulated to whoever has money, but there is one thing that why go right people were kidnapped. Since you yourself said that your memories were messed up how would you know who you really are, how would you explain your dreams. Robots don't dream or feel emotion, you on the other hand I can see the fear in your eyes. You have nothing to worry about the importance of a maintenance check up is to see if there is anything out of sorts on the inside that we can't see on the outside." Never missing a beat Aoi finished up the neck brace that he was going to hook up to the other that would tell him what was working and what needed to be fixed. Lifting his hand he took Hittori's hand gently and guided him to a chair, looking at the others neck he saw a port where he could hook the other up to his computer and see inside the other without having to cut him open. He hid his excitement well as he plugged in the neck brace.

"Don't worry it won't hurt." He re-insured the other before firing up the machine it softly roared to life and booted up before scanning the male it was hooked up too.

The other made sense. It was impossible for robots to have dreams which led to only one conclusion. So he had nor further question of that. He followed the warm hands that guided him onto a chair. It was gentle and reminded him of his father when he first found him. The other seemed genuine to help. Maybe Hittori was being too suspicious.

He lifted his neck so the other could plug in his cable. He could feel a form.of electrical shock running through his body as it was turned on. The images ofhis inside slowly appeared on the screen of the computer. His former master has always manually took.care of all his maintenance. This would be the first time Hittori was checked automatically by a machine. However, as the minute go by. He could feel himself heated up and was very concerned. He signed to his new master. "This cable. How many volts does it carry? I don't think this is correcttype of cable. I feel myself overheating.... master"
